Full squats with maximum depth are also very good for the legs btw if you can't go full depth yet go deeper and deeper over time by holding on to something for balance

Nice one chaps. I'm an amateur adult dressage rider and this past weekend at a "clinic I was fortunate enough to attend I learned that I need to develop stronger thigh muscles and have control of them when riding. That they in fact are where my weight must go and be distributed not in my heels; in order to influence and control the movement and paces of my mount. In riding there is the age old adage of" keep your heels down". See the movie GLADIATOR. Towards the end of this flick Russell Crowes character relates how he tells his dead son ( now in the spirit world) to keep his heels down when he's riding his ponies To be a good rider and not a dead weight to the Horse one rides one must also be as good an athlete as is possible. Tis only fair as the Horse is expected to be an athlete regardless of its level of training in carrying a rider around on its back which is not designed to bear the weight of Woman or Man. SO! these exercise would seem to fit my particular bill. Cheers lads.

One thing, though, is that I can't always tell the difference between damaging pain and pain you experience when you're exercising a muscle that's been dormant too long. I remember in high school, first day in PE after summer break, the coach would run us through our calisthenics and I'd be so sore the next day I could hardly walk.
