The Bucks were the only team to take a game against Philly in that year's playoffs, always had to go through Philly. This clip is taken from the Sixers video "That Championship Feeling". and what pisses me off is there's nothing posted on this series on RUclips. You can find damn near every playoff game Boston played back then, except for this series. Seems like NBA's "Greatest Games" is trying to sweep this one under the rug.
Johnny B Perkins. agree. and i remember this season. its also the MILWAUKEE BUCKS breaktrough season. if the BUCKS gets passed SIXERS. i believe THE BUCKS has a chance of dethroning THE LAKERS also. they are on a mission. its sad that it still never come THE BUCKS WAY again😥.. i feel bad for BOB LANIER. its his last season i believe. and him.MONCRIEF and JOHNSON are playing at a very high level
I think you hit the nail on the head about sweeping it under the rug because they like a lot of people with strange mentalities want to promote some players and not others because this is in the middle of a almost dynasty Celtic team and they lost and like you said swept under the rug. And they're always be negative people out there talking about finals at LeBron loss they won't talk about finals Larry Bird lost and times he didn't even get to the finals only got there five times in his whole career compared to Russell's 12 and LeBron's 11
This is bitter sweet to watch as a Bucks fan, knowing that A. As good as these Bucks teams were in the 80s, we Never won a single championship and B. The Celtics would come back a few times in the playoffs in the late 80s and get their revenge on us.
Oh it is. I have my own sports blog on Facebook and I talked about the day the Celts got swept by the Bucks in my one on this day in sports history piece.
@@ericthomas7560 they only have Paul Pierce that time and bunch of supporting cast. This team was star studded. The addition of Dennis Johnson in 83-84 added a defensive stopper for Boston.
That sweep by the by the Bucks in '83 had to be the low point for Larry Bird career. For coach Bill Fitch that led to his resignation after that and KC Jones would take over and the Celtics would beat the Lakers in the '84 Finals.
I forgot about this Milwaukee team. You could argue this could have been a championship team if it wasn't for the 76ers getting Moses Malone. At least the Bucks won a game off the 76ers unlike the Lakers.
Oh yeah with Mo Cheeks and Zeke being my fav players, guys I tried to play like it's no wonder the '83 Sixers are my fav team all time next are the 88,89,90 Bad boys who also swept the Lakers after losing to them in the finals a year before...
The major reason for the sweep besides Bird's sickness and injuries was that Maxwell, Carr, Archibald and McHale revolted against coach Fitch. There were times in the series where Fitch yelled for them to speed the ball up the court and they purposefully slowed it down. It was talked about in the Bird/Magic book.
MerkinMuffly Lol stop making excuses, makes you look weak. If what you’re saying is true then how can you respect Bird, McHale and the rest of the Celtics for throwing this series? I don’t buy it, the Bucks were just a better team and showed it at the boston garden.
The Mecca was a Very Loud place to play in indeed. It had a fan friendly intimate seating layout, arched metal ceiling that caused acoustics to bounce and Passionate Bucks fans would Bring it Hard every game. Causing a Big home court Advantage for the Bucks
Merkin Muffly, well Larry Bird didn't play in game 2 cause of the high fever, that's correct. You said technically he didn't get swept, but he did come back for the rest of the series, and the last 2 games, were completed as a sweep with him. I don't know if you know this, but i'll go on record and say that you don't know, but the most NBA playoff games that Larry Bird has lost in a row, in his career with the Celtics, is 5. Yes that's right, 5 straight playoff games, Larry has lost in a row, in his career, with Boston.
After being up 2-1 in the 1991 semis vs Pistons, Larry lost the next 3 games of the series, then the following season in 1992 first round, Boston swept Pacers 3-0 without Larry. In the semis, after being up 2-1 vs Cavs without Larry, he came back and played and the Celtics lost the next 2 games, to be down 3-2 in the series. So in games 4,5,&6 of the 91 semis vs Pistons, Larry played, and in games 4&5 in the 92 semis vs Cavs, he lost, so there you have it.
But let's be honest..that was Bird on his last legs..this was the one and only series his Celtics were pretty much completely dominated with Larry almost at his exact peak..which was absolutely shocking..because the Celtics and Bucks had split the season series in '82-83, 3-3..very few people expected Boston to be bushwhacked like this..and I DO think it had something to do with dissension in the Celtic core..
That is pretty crazy that the Bucks swept the Celtics that year.I guess that is what Bird meant when he was talking about after he retired how he felt like they should have more then 3 titles and how they left a few on the table.Certainly can't say that about the Lakers and Magic as they won 5 in the decade and played in every single finals except 81,86 when they lost to the Rockets in the western conf. finals.Magic to me is second only to Russell and Jordan when it comes to winning.I love Bird too but although Magic was not a greater player than Bird he certainly played on better teams as the Lakers were the team of the decade.
The 76ers would have most likely destroyed the celtics had they faced each other in the eastern conference finals anyways. No one was stopping moses or the doctor that year...
Actually Lakers did leave a few on table as well. They shouldn't have lost to the Rockets in both 81 and 86 or the Celtics in 84 as they were the more talented team. They also feel they would have won in 89 had they not gotten injured(Magic and Scott) but I guess that's out of their hands. In any case, the Lakers team probably had the most talent on their team almost every year throughout the 80s so they probably should have gotten more than 5. Also the Western Conference was weak compared to the Eastern Conference in the 80s so Magic and the Lakers were also working with that advantage. In terms of greatest winners I would still throw Bird in the conversation as the 84 Finals is one of the greatest upsets in NBA history not to mention the 3-1 comeback against the Sixers in 81 as well. I'd throw Kobe and Duncan in the conversation as well.
@@caron1873 Celtics actually split the season series against the Sixers and were the best team equipped in the league back then to slow down Malone because of their front court size and depth. So I'm not sure they would of gotten destroyed.

Good thing for you this years BUCKS team looks very formidable.
