    Great video as always, I had no idea that modern wiring sounded so muddy, even with the tone knobs full up. My #1 Les Paul Standard has 50's wiring with matched pots, ground wire on pot casings and matched foil and paper in oil .022 capacitors. I love the large pallette of available tones using 50's wiring and P.A.F. Type pickups. Rock On, Brother!

    I pretty much rewire all my Les Paul guitars with 50's schematic. It takes a lot of the "mud" out. And using a PAF spec pickup is also beneficial.

    My first Les Paul was a Japanese Burny from 1985, it had the 50's wiring. When I finally played a Gibson Les Paul many years later, I was shocked at how poorly it compared to the Burny. When I opened it up to look inside the control cavity, I couldn't believe that the pots were wired differently and mounted on what appeared to be an aluminum plate. Since then, I have always removed that mounting plate on Gibson guitars and mounted the pots direct to the body with the 50's wiring. Huge improvement.

    I wind my own PAF’s and always use the 50’s wiring scheme. I always get huge compliments on my tone.

    well... great comparison and explanation! really nice tones with 50s low pots settings! but what are you going to do with that white "something" les paul?

    • @soapboxearth2
      @soapboxearth2 3 месяца назад +4

      I really like the VIpots. I hated spending the money but I'm happy I've got them.
      I also tell people about 50s wiring and proper paf clones. I've got a set of 59s with a4 magnets from brandonwound ( the guy who now heads up Gibson's pickup dept)
      Easy little changes like this can make a Gibson USA model 10 times better.
      You can really get that tele on steroids, sound, and crystal clear tones from your neck pickup.
      People don't have to put up with thick mud only, in the neck position

    Приветствую.) Рад, что наткнулся на этот канал (изначально на русский).
    Да, после того "прощального" видео ещё раз сделал для себя вывод, почему не хочу туда возвращаться: адекватных слишком мало, а безкультурщины, в силу менталитета, подавляюще много. Да и в уши фильтр не поставишь и не закроешь их, как глаза. Буду рад следить за новыми видео. Успехов в этом кропотливом деле!)

      Верно... удар по чсв не каждый переживет, а русский менталитет может влупить по этой части личности очень и очень - прецеденты уже есть в русскоязычном гитарном ютубе. Хорошо это или плохо... время покажет. Оно уже показывает, но не всем хватает смелости и разума принять горькую правду и перестать смотреть на мир через розовые очки.

    The string break at the nut looks similar to my standard. I’m happy with the straight string pull but almost all of the les Paul guys I watch have a weird break for the low and highE almost always it is pointing inward. Makes me feel like I have the wrong spacing or something

    Angus Young does not play 50's wired guitars. Live at Leeds Townsend played p90s with modern wiring. Jimi Hendrix did not play 50's wired guitars. Jimmy Page's double neck and his candy apple red top Norlin Les Paul were not fifties wired. Just keep that in mind.

    Yes. Great & to the point explanation to those new to this. Aah.. But what happened to that Great , Non master volume amp the builder let you borrow ? I hope he might give you a fair price on it. (( The SERIOUS MAGIC )) From a "Golden Era " Gibson, Or, Close to perfect clone is a GREAT { Very dynamic } NON Master Volume Amp. & using the volume/tone controls & playing dynamics If you weren't sooo far, I'd give you one.

    Is it that perhaps modern pickups are hot like 13k+ compared to paf vintage which are a lot warmer.

    Would my 60s inspired Epiphone Dot have more clarity from the stock pickups if I did this?

    • @8BombCustom
      @8BombCustom  3 месяца назад

      Unfortunately, stock Epiphone pickups won't do this. Pickups and wiring are a single system and the signal starts from the pickups. If they don't have brightness, then wiring won't help.

    The best Paul I have is a PRS McCarty with Lindy Fralins…. But aside from that , why do we as guitarist keep trying to do , to replicate the same things over n over ? With all the tools we have why aren’t we inventing new sounds?
