Good job, The only advantage for the Nespresso is that you can find their capsules at the half price of the illy capsules. For me illy is the king ,best quality of coffee.
Thanks, I appreciate the comment. Illy definitely seems to be the coffee lover's choice but getting hold of the capsules in the UK got increasingly more difficult hence why I switched.
illy is close to the traditional of espresso extract method, so it got nice crema . it got 7g powder extract 28ml it is close to what single short dose compare to nespresso 4g to much more water .. i can't stand for the Nespresso weird foam on each coffee , yes it got many taste , but it never match the quality of illy . if you love espresso , illy capsule will suit you more .
Hey Anskar, thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment. I enjoyed the coffee from my Illy machine in much the same was as I do from my Nespresso so for me there was no significant difference and my decision was then based on convenience. And as mentioned, here in the UK Nespresso is the much more prevalent system and I don't regret my choice. Plus my Illy machine was leaking so it was time for it to go.
Not sure if mine is a different design, but my Y3.2 has the ability to lift the retaining tab for the water tank, eliminating the need to push down to remove it. Hope that helps anyone considering a purchase of the Illy. Love the machine!
Thanks for this comparison! Also @youtube, stunning to watch in 144p resolution, thanks for choosing the best settings for my near 1gbit high-speed line.
I was using Nespresso machine for over 8 years , but recently I’ve tried an espresso from the Illy machine in the hotel and it tasted so much better! Now I’m thinking whether to buy a machine from Illy. Noted the concerns you mentioned. Thanks for the review.
Given your direct experience an Illy machine would, I am sure, be money well spent. If pods were more easily available for Illy machines in my part of the UK I might have stuck with it rather than migrate to Nespresso because, as you say, the coffee is very good.
I agree with olya. The illy coffee tastes much much better but like Mostly Helpful has mentioned, Nespresso offers better service. So in the end I chose illy because at the end of the day I want to drink good coffee🤷🏻♀️
I've just bought an illy 3.3 bundle - attracted to its strong fragrance x cappuccino taste (w fresh milk diy) ..... when all colour x food safety r equal - nespresso or illy
Hello, I couldn't understand because I don't know English, which one do you like more? Can you write to me what are the pros and cons, I will translate and read. Thank you :)
Hi Naz, no problem. 1. The standard coffee from Illy or Nespresso is very similar 2. If you want more choice of coffee flavours, Nespresso is better 3. If you live in the UK then it is easier to buy Nespresso than to buy Illy 4. Nespresso capsules can be recycled in the UK. Illy capsules can not. I hope that helps and please do subscribe as I have a new coffee machine video coming very soon.
@@MostlyHelpful ur point 3 is valid in my part of the world ie south east Asia - nespresso is readily available at even shopping mall ...... while illy w bundle of 4+1 capsules is been constantly 'out of stock' only came to knowledge after launching a complaint!
Hi Lefteris, thanks for watching my video. I don't know the Mitaca machines and haven't used the Illy MPS capsules. I stopped using my Illy machine shortly after this video as it kept leaking water and I found Nespresso just as good.
Extremely helpful. I'm a longtime Nespresso customer (10+ years) but I've grown annoyed that they've gone away from serious coffee to candy flavors. It doesn't affect me in any way other than it gives the perception that their machine is a toy. Second, I've had the subscription service and when I wanted to change my subscription, I had to reenter my credit card info which I found annoying as well. Lastly, the crema on Nespresso doesn't taste "authentic" compared to expressos I get in restaurants and my hope was that Illy would be better (I only drink espresso). I had a 3.3 in my virtual "cart" but now I'm thinking twice based on your review. Perhaps I should let go of Nespresso's lapse in marketing judgement. They own Blue Bottle (my favorite coffee shop chain in the US) and if they offered Blue Bottle pods, all would be forgiven. Ah well. Thanks for the content!
Hi, thanks for watching the video and taking time to comment. I still think Illy is a good solution but here in the UK capsules aren't easy to find and Nespresso is everywhere, so that definitely influenced the decision. I know what you mean regarding Nespresso coffees though and I now tend to just stick with 3 variants and avoid the rest.
Hi there! Thanks for the great content as I’m comparing both of the machines right now before I make my purchase. May I confirm that Nespresso capsules does not compatible with Illy machine?
Hi, thanks for watching the video and taking time to comment. You are right, you cannot use Nespresso pods with the Illy machine. Good luck with your choice.
Hi Cliff, Iperespresso capsules only work with Illy or "for Illy" machines. Currently only FrancisFrancis makes machines that work with Iperespresso. Previously Hotpoint/Indesit made machines too but check out my other video to see why you definitely shouldn't buy one.
I had nespresso for last 2 years but recently bought the illy 3.3 machine. Do you have any suggestions for a capsule which I can fill myself? I don't want pay 50 cents per a cup of coffee
Hi, thanks for watching the video and for the question. I don't have any suggestions though as I originally bought my Illy machine to eliminate the mess created when using regular ground coffee. I have no experience therefore of the refillable capsules but look at it this way, even at 50 cents it's still way cheaper than a local coffee shop!
I don't know of any coffee brands that make compatible pods for the Illy machines, in the UK at least. Nespresso pods definitely won't work as they are a different size.
Got a traditional espresso machine as "main", and illy capsules if I have no time/as backup. Illy is clearly superior to Nespresso: coffee quality, quantity of coffee, temperature. It's more expensive & less available. I prefer quality to quantity, but to each their own. In the end, the best coffee is the one you like most and that you can afford/find.
Thanks for the comment. I don't agree that Illy is "clearly" superior though - certainly that wasn't my experience. But, as you say, the best coffee is the one you like the most and if that's Illy for you then that's cool. 👍
I just came about your video. Do you think Illy might come out with more varieties of coffee capsules? Right now I use Illy Kcups and I truly love their coffee. Thank you for that great review!
Hi Gabriela, thanks for the question. From everything I've seen regarding Illy and my own experience of using their coffee in the UK I don't think they will ever have as wide as variety as the other brands. They seem to be a business focused on making a small range and keeping the quality high. Great to hear that you enjoy drinking it though.
I read that illy make the best coffee so no point in trying to do anything different. I'm hoping I can make a cappuccino? Will probably by the dualit milk frother
I had both illy machine look better but machine nespresso is more stronger. .Buy illy coffee taste much much better. So I keep buying illy capsules for espresso.
Thanks for taking the time to watch my video. I will always be grateful to Illy as it was with one of their machines that I discovered coffee capsules, even though I've now moved to Nespresso. I'll definitely try the Illy Nespresso capsules too.
I would say, get the Illy machine, but only IF you love the Illy Espresso. It is the brand of espresso that is really ubiquitous all over Italy. Kind of like Starbucks in the US. It is my favorite brand of espresso for espresso based drinks. Whatever you do, dont buy Nespresso Vertuo. If you go to Nespresso, get a Nespresso Originaline, NOT the Vertuo because with the Vertuo uses ONLY NESPRESSO BRAND COFFEES. So you are locked in like buying the Illy machines lock you into Illy. Illy is much better espresso. I have had that Illy machine for 10 years now, and it has NEVER leaked.
Thanks for the information again. I am pleased with the Essenza Mini I have ordered and cannot wait until tomorrow when I have my first coffee from it.
@@MostlyHelpful I have had the Essenza Mini over a week and have tried quite a few coffees from it and have enjoyed every one of them. It has made a great addition to the Tassimo Suny and the Dolce Gusto Mini Me.
There's lots of Illy coffee out there in all the UK supermarkets and somewhat counterintuitively I can buy Illy capsules for Nespresso machines in my local Waitrose but not the capsules for their own machines. I sold my Illy machine shortly after this video though and migrated fully to Nespresso and don't regret it.
In your opinion. As mentioned in the video for me there's barely any difference in the quality of the coffee from these two machines and Nespresso is awayyy more convenient. As a result I sold my Illy machine and I don't regret it.

Nice video. On my illy Y3.3 , I don’t take off the container every time, to fill it up. Just pour the water in. Hope, it will last longer this way.
Hi Rebecca, that's a great tip and I suspect it will help prevent the leaking that I experienced. Enjoy the coffee!
Thank you for this comparison. Do you happen to know if the Illy has a metal or plastic boiler?
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and I don't know anymore about the Illy machine unfortunately.

Is Illy Y3.3 better than Y3.2?.
I've no idea. I sold my Y3.2 and have used Nespresso ever since.
