Flynn made a lot of mistakes in the Sonic Encyclospeedia. He isn't an expert on Sonic either, he doesn't know how many Rings activate a Sonic 2 special stage. Unique concepts? His IDW writing is just recycled Archie and game ideas, Archie ones that he already used. Whisper's backstory is from Metal Gear Solid and also rips off the Original Freedom Fighters from Archie before he was writing. The Metal Virus appeared multiple times before like in a novel and in Archie before he was writing where nanobots roboticized a bunch of stuff in Issue 152 by Penders. I can't think of any new idea he had in IDW. But I've seen the entire franchise before this aside from the manga that isn't translated and the novels.
He doesn’t have to be 100% accurate in every single minute piece of data to be an expert. Everybody gets things wrong, and everybody can accidentally mess something up thinking they know more than they do. Being inspired by something doesn’t make the execution of a thing any less unique. Reusing ideas and changing how they’re done applies as well. Nothing is gonna be never-done-before- incredibly amazing concepts. It’s all about how something is done, not just the idea of a thing. Your bar for “new and unique” is waaaaayy too high if you think that people just create ideas that nobody has ever thought of before, or tried out of thin air.

It is a MAJOR problem. You don’t nerf characters or illogically exceed their abilities for a cool moment, ESPECIALLY in an introduction when it’ll be the first time everybody sees them. It’s lazy as hell, and shows a level of carelessness for the world you’re crafting. What kind of writer can’t even keep their own characters powers in check? If Tails is faster than even Sonic, then he always should be. If Sonic can’t even outrun a Generic Super Badnik, then he can’t be the fastest thing alive.
Imagine calling him a super fan even though he's admitted multiple times on his podcast that he was never a fan of Sonic during the Mega Drive and Saturn era. Also I just finished watching Sonic X in Japanese, and I have to say the characterization of the characters in that show absolutely demolishes Flynn's terrible characterizations. I never understood why people keep pushing this idea that he gets the characters when in reality he doesn't get a lick of it. No joke, because his writing takes priority over the gameplay nowadays I actually started hating Sonic cause this was no longer the franchise that I loved as a kid. Until I decided to give the Japanese version of Sonic X and it reminded me why I love the blue guy so much. He's definitely not a good writer, nor does he have any experience in writing prior to ruining Sonic. The only reason the modern fanbase loves him so much is cause he's a self reflection of the insecurities of the current fanbase. And most people who love his writing for Sonic also happen to not like any Sonic game prior to Adventure 2. So it kinda makes sense why people jive with his terrible work so much
@@Tokiasiguchi Being a super fan doesn’t mean you have to like every single piece of sonic media, it just means you know it well enough - I don’t give a single care about classic Sonic, but I know all about it. I expressed that he doesn’t understand the characterizations of Sonic/Vanilla/Omega/Silver/Shadow and others in the full video. I believe o even gave a a quick expression of him understanding a good amount, in this clip. I wouldn’t say the he understands 0% of the characters. Many of these characters don’t even have well defined/fleshed out personalities to begin with. It’s pretty hard to mess up characters like Tails, Blaze, Cream, and Rouge.
If you're going to title a video "BRUTALLY HONEST Critique of Ian Flynn", include the Bumblekast. Otherwise, it's "My honest opinions on Ian Flynn's stories". Also, do you normally talk like this...? The EmSwizzle-like voice is difficult to listen to and makes the video sound less like a critique and more like a dizz track video...
I have no idea who Emswizzle is, this is just how I talk, might be a bit racist for to say allat, but okay. Lmfao. Also this isn’t a critique on Ian as a person, you getting that impression is your own fault, the first few lines of the video is me saying this is about his writing.
@@KotyTangClips I don't think a voice has much to do with race, but okay. It sounds like a very loud presenter voice to me, that's why I don't like it. (Emswizzle is a different RUclipsr that did a very similar voice heard in this video a few years ago or so, nowadays he stopped doing that voice. My dislike of the voice has nothing to do with race. ^^') Also, you titled the video "[...] Critique of Ian Flynn", that sounds like a critique that goes over everything about Ian Flynn, not just the writing.
What about my voice sounds like a “diss track”? I understand what you’re saying, however, your impression of the title has nothing to do with the actual content. It’s a brutal critique of his writing. If you wanted me to trash on him as a person, you’re on the wrong channel, might be some weird content to look for as well. I make it clear within the first 30 seconds of the video it’s only about his writing.

It sounds like a voice that sounds like it's supposed to be rude towards a particular thing or like... sensationalizing a topic? Not an actual diss track, but... a voice that sounds like it's supposed to make fun of it in a "ha, this is dumb" tone? Hard to describe. Emswizzle's very loud and fake presenter voice is the closest thing I could compare it to, and that guy is white, so my comment had nothing to do with races and more so that I have an issue with... the tone? Emphasization? Loudness? It's really hard to describe... But if that's how you normally talk in real life, then I'm sorry, I wouldn't have expected that. Okay, but the title is still too encompassing then, but oh well. ^^'
I got you, I’m just messin’ with you. ❤️ I have been told repeatedly that my voice is overly aggressive and loud. It is my default tone when talking about things passionately, or arguing. I think the title does what it needs to. If you get the impression that I’m gonna go over 1,000 Bumblekast videos, I think it would make more sense for me to relate it to that. It got you to click, hopefully listen to what I have to say, and the first 30 seconds say the goal of the video. I’m Sorry that the title gave you the wrong impression

I've had all these thoughts and I'm writing my own video which I think will touch on a lot of the same topics.
