Yo dude. There's one more if your willing to. Bokator, I'm taking a trip to Cambodia soon to try it out for myself because I can barely find anything in depth about it.
Sensei, the fact that you and the Karate Nerd and a whole bunch of other RUclips martial artist influencers get together and share ideas is very inspiring.
Rather felt like the biography of pokemon> Stella is a ringmaster of a traveling circus who has a Mr. Mime but it wouldn't listen to her after the cruel way she treated it, so she had train Sensei Seth as a Mr. Mime. Eventually, she and her Mr. Mime reconciled.
Dude, you're living the dream! I can't think of a more fun or satisfying way of making a living than traveling around, trying whatever martial art interests me, all while entertaining and educating an enthusiastic audience. I have no doubt that it's very hard work, too, but anything in life worth excelling at won't come easy. Happy holidays to you and yours, Sensei Seth, and thanks again for the years of entertainment!
I actually loved the Abraham Lincoln/wrestling video! It's a bummer that it didn't get as many views, but I thought it was a really cool concept, and I didn't know anything about Abe's wrestling prowess before seeing it, so I found it really interesting on top of being very entertaining.
I’d love to see some more history on martial arts. The videos that have someone there telling you about the history of their sport are always a good time
Sensei Seth is a guaranteed Top 5 of favourite YTubers, I don't't even have a list, but it's a no-brainer. Being able to travel and train all these different styles with incredible martial artists is the dream for so many of us. So thank you for allowing us to "experience" a bit of it through your eyes. Osu!
Honestly the Abe Wrestling vídeo is my favourite video not just of seth but I think of 2024 too. Its weird other people didn't love it aswell. The expert was amazing
You uploaded the Kyokushin video 1 month exactly before I started training on it, and it pumped me. I only did TKD, Shotokan, Kung Fu and BJJ before, and it is the hardest style I ever done.
11:40 No. kenjutsu is NOT cutting mats. Cutting mats is tameshigiri. People that do iaido, iaijutsu, or kenjutsu might also do tameshigiri practice. And in Japan, there is what is called battodo that focuses on cutting mats. But kenjutsu is not just cutting. Like European sword arts, kenjutsu also involves parries and thrusts and something akin to grappling though with weapons what makes sense is a bit different. Cutting a mat on stick isn't kenjutsu. Yes, learning to cut with a proper angle (hasuji) is important and one of the reason tameshigiri practice is done.
I think folks hate the fight scenes stuff because I would imagine 80% of your viewers don't participate in martial arts and they only want to see "real" stuff. Ya know... for da streetz
You say no one watched the videos and they do not like the fight scenes, Screw that, i watch just about everything you do man. You are such an awesome entertainer. Your videos are genuine and heartfelt, and inspiring, but still entertaining as hell. Don't let up on what you know is good stuff.
You are by far my favorite martial artist RUclips as you are always as non biased as possible for every style you try. It gives us the best look at each style. You, to me, embody what a martial artist should be. Keep up the amazing work!
You should try if you ever get the chance (these will probably be very hard to find to train) Naganza( Apache martial arts (not just knife)), Porrazo Del Tigre(native Mexican wrestling), Huka Huka(Amazonian wrestling), Hapkido, Laamb, Engolo, Macuhuitl (Mexican obsidian sword) fighting, knocking and kicking, mau Rakau(maori club fighting), Glima, Khmer Wrestling, etc. there's tons. Love your series of trying different martial arts, and your sumo journey.
23:18 DEFINITELY! I watch many martial arts related youtubers but man, you are my favourite for sure. I discovered u through Jesse about 1 year ago and i've watched so much of your content. It isnt just your content that is so unique and interesting, but you are a really kind and nice man! (im subbed since 2 months on another account i have, not this one because i have blocked payments)
I can't say if you're in my top five, but you're definitely my number one martial art youtuber. Why? Because you approach every new style with what seems to be genuine curiosity and you don't seem to indulge in too much talk about what is bullshit or not: you recognize that not everything is efficient, but not everything needs to be. There are plenty of reasons to practice outside of being a good fighter. Your videos are wholesome, instructive and funny, thanks for making them!
I do NOT hate the fight scene videos! Not sure why they don't perform as well, but I think they are really entertaining. I'm really into martial arts films, though, so I'll always gravitate towards that type of video. Maybe try a collaboration with the channel Scenic Fights, out of Paxibellum BJJ in NY? They mostly do shorts, but their long-form fight scene breakdowns are awesome, and they cover all kinds of martial arts styles and disciplines, not dissimilar from yourself, just more geared toward fight scene choreography in films, TV, anime, and video games.
Oh boy - what a year! That was a great video about a great journey. My favorites are bokh, judo tournament and the latest TATE video. And don't worry even if you're not in my top 5 favorite channels - you're definitely in top 10. I'm subscribed to over 200 channels so I think thats fair. Good luck on your journey.
Its interesting to see so many different body types. Some dudes are cut and ripped, others are dudes youd see at the local pizza place putting down their own large pizza. Some of the best instructors you had this year were women. You really show that anyone can be a fighter, and theres a style out there for you. If you dont want to get hurt, theres a style for you. if you want to play with weapons, do flips, whatever. theres a style out there for you.
You, sir, are indeed one of my top 5 youtubers. Your videos are all very educational and very entertaining. For new styles to try, I could suggest two from the two countries I'm a national of: Swiss Schwingen (a form of wrestling) and Portuguese Jogo do Pau (an old long stick tradition of shepherds defending against both thieves and wolves - which have been extinct in Portugal, for decades). Just whishful thinking, they are pretty niche martial arts (I haven't even tried either myself), but would be fun to see your take on them.
I have always enjoyed your openness to learn different styles and stay open minded oboist them. Keep up the great work and happy holidays to you and your family.
sanda is so cool. my dream would be to have in in 4oz gloves. imagine the grappling techniques. also a huge fan of the new wrestling content! it's my sport and it's super cool to see you highlight it in such an entertaining and informative way
You're my #3 RUclipsr, Seth. (I watch A LOT of RUclips. It's my top entertainment source) You've motivated me to get myself back into training. I thought I was too old and too broken to get anything out of training. I just felt like I'd make an absolute ass out of myself. Now, I've got plans in place to set up my garage with bags, striking pads, and other equipment over the next year. I'm gonna slowly build my own personal studio. You and Mike are to thank. I know you probably won't read this, but thank you. Your efforts do a lot to encourage people. You're confident, but humble. You're very knowledgeable, but know well that you barely scratch the surface. Thank you so very much.
Right there with you. I injured my knee and haven't trained consistently since. I feel dead and so far away from the person l was. I've put on weight and can't find my way back. It's miserable. I hope you find your path back to training.
Glad I’m genuinely glad I am subscribed to this channel. Thanks, Seth for all the time and energy you put into making this a great year of content! Here’s to a great 2025.
Hey Seth, you may not have realized this but Erik Paulson also has his own striking style called STX kickboxing. STX meaning Savate-Thai-Cross, it combines techniques from multiple martial arts including Boxing, Panatukan, Jun Fan/JKD Kickboxing, Savate, and Muay Thai
Chess boxing is such a cool sport, cuz it so obviously started as a joke, but then went on to become genuinely cool and serious competition. Super rad how these athletes keep their composure like that. A ton of respect for these dudes.
Yum Yum Yum... Thank you Seth your content sustains me! Also, definitely at least top 5. Watching your videos helped me realize I need to go back to training and am on my way to getting my 3rd degree in taekwondo. Thanks for the knowledge and entertainment!
39:10 As for me sparring footage is a lot more exciting than fight scenes. I was always a martial artist, but over time I’ve become less enamored with the visuals of a fight scene vs the kinetic action of regular sparring footage. I like the messiness. Honestly I wish movie scenes looked more like sparring footage tbh.
Love this end of year wrap up. Do you think next year maybe we could have a peoples choice award? Might be interesting for you to see not just what gets views but what the people paying enough attention to fill in a google form had the best time with. Thought of it because your awards reminded me of the Golden Noggers Awards that OSW youtube channel do at the end of every year which is all vote in.
Really enjoying your videos as my friends are getting be back into martial arts. I have done Karate, Taekwondo, and a little Muay Thai Kickboxing and BJJ, but I haven't practised for years, so these videos ignite my spirit. I have been interested in Bajiquan lately, and would love to see a video on it if you haven't done one already (haven't seen all your stuff yet lol). Best of luck in the new year Sensei!
18:35 Thank you for continuing to be open-minded and experiencing modern/sport/contemporary Wushu Taolu, Sanda, Tibetan Hop Gar, Taijiquan tuishou (推手; tuīshǒu, push hands), and Mongolian Bökh (ᠪᠥᠬ; Mongolian wrestling, literally “endurance”)! 19:59 Run the Pipe (旋压摔/下压摔; xuányāshuāi/xiàyāshuāi, whirling/downward pressing takedown)
You're in my top 3.. for whatever it's worth to ya. I liked that keysi thing. It was interesting. Dude, and that Abe Lincoln video was awesome. I had no idea about that and I like old school American history.
Seth you do know that pro wrestling stems directly from catch wrestling correct? As does American collegiate wrestling and Brazilian luta libre, and Japanese shooto (also partially sambo and bjj)
My favorite video: The Abe Lincoln one. Top 5* RUclipsrs: 1) Renaissance Periodization 2) Papa Meat 3) Sensei Seth 4) hard2hurt 5) mmashredded 6) Knight Jiu-jitsu As a fledgling youtuber who struggles with consistency, I admire and respect your commitment to provide new videos almost every week. Usually, all different. I love it. Thanks for being you!
Sanda was absolutely my favorite that you've tried so far. Since you gave that some representation, I have gone down some Sanda rabbit holes lol, I wish there was somewhere I could learn even within an hour and a half of where I live but it's sort of a hidden gym in my opinion.
People (I catch myself doing it too!) so often judge a martial art or fighting style by the wrong metrics. We try to over generalize for "this will always work out that never will" instead of looking at 1) personal ethos [what are you willing to do/trying to accomplish]; 2) context [what is the physical situation, such as "in the wild" vs sport, single vs multiple, professional (cop, security, military) vs private, bigger vs smaller, etc.]; 3) mechanics to address the questions raised by the first two; and then 4) probabilities of success depending on the interactions of the other 3. It's all far more nuanced, and to a hammer everything looks like a nail. I love these explorations and the willingness you show to give all of these respect and a fair shake.
The Abe Lincoln one probably would've done better if it were named more like 'I tried Abe Lincoln's wrestling style' or something... just as-is, it's just a title that has little appeal to someone who isn't American. btw, I like the 'fight scene'/choreograph stuff. Could the animal one have been named 'creating new animal style martial-arts'? if not... do that. it'd be a lot of fun. And probably interesting to think about the pre-existing ones and applying the process to other animals. Look forward to another year of videos. Also, you really need to reach out to Martins Licis. He's enjoyed a lot of the same martial arts you've been enjoying (Sumo and Bokh coming to mind specifically) whilst making his Strength Unknown series. I think you'd get on well and it'd be an interesting and fun collaboration.
I've always kind of wanted to see you do Gutter Fighting and Defendo. I also have wanted to see you participate in a Street Beef video and the WV Toughman Challenge.
You’re top 5 for me, but no one will dethrone GameGrumps for me but you’re numba 2 ! Loved the Lincoln vid, I happened to learn more about Native American martial arts in the comments section from the guy you featured so awesome for me there. Finally, I highly recommend you try out some Kali. I practice Sayoc but there are styles not entirely based on edged weapons as well. If you’re ever in OKC,OK I know a great place you could drop in to try it out! It’s a style I feel really helped my striking as much as my self-defense confidence. Especially when knives are involved
I always wonder how people create the opportunity to live these kind of lives. I’d love to learn different martial arts but have no clue how to do it without quitting my job. Your videos are cool because you don’t take yourself too seriously. Great video
I'm a LARPer, but the LARP (Amtgard) I play in also has a foam combat system that would also qualify it as a Martial Art as per what you're qualifying as well. Have friends who I think you'd get a lot of cool information from. Or more, between like Dagorhir, Amtgard and the SCA, they're all similar but different. All have similar rulesets, so they behave the same. But they're also different enough that they've built their own meta as well. Is something that you could check out. Thank you for the videos. Thanks for keeping an open mind and doing basically investigative features. They've been super fun to watch I look forward to the videos you upload.
@Muaykhao187 Combat LARPs so more focus on combat and fighting more than like the roleplay aspect. We do a ton of stuff around footwork and body mechanics and fight theory. Looks feels like some form of fencing... About as much martial art as some of the lighter styles he's focused on
I really wish sanda was bigger in the US. I feel like it hits that sweet balance between striking and grappling, sport and practical. MMA is fantastic for just straight up 1v1 combat, but it is a little too brutal for longevity IMO, i definitely wouldn't want to get in the cage after age 40.
The kyokushin camp you were at was a bit of a McDojo situation, but your conclusions aren't bad. My notes about kyokushin so far: - heavy emphasis on hardcore training to tire yourself to extreme and then keep going. Very unlike other karate styles which get good cardio but don't pressure practitioners to that degree. Even combat sports like judo which can get to higher level of intensity in training don't emphasise the hard training as much. - knuckle pushups done from right under the armpit are the secret of kyokushin's power punching. And (unlike the mcdojo people from your video) you don't actually need to rotate fists and punch horizontally, punch in exactly the same motion you do knuckle pushups, it looks a bit like bareknuckle boxing then, slightly angled vertical punches. - power generation on short distances through small steps to the side or backwards and forwards in the same combo, to generate hip movements through walking and then using this hip movement for power in punches. Also has a good emphasis on that and can be highly beneficial in boxing too. - as a flaw we have very little attention to defensive footwork. They do distance control for head kicks but other than that it's moving forward to the opponent. Ashihara fixed it by adding tai sabaki - as a plus related to the flaw, it has good countering and trading. Someone sparring like an outboxer can get a nasty surprise going against a proper kyokushinka, since they are not afraid or staggered while taking damage and can dish out in return, usually much more. - kata are performed in a much more natural fashion than shotokan, which adds to their usability in real situations. Naturally kyokushin karatekas spar so much they don't need to draw wisdom from bunkai, but generally doing kata in free time in a kyokushin way should be pretty beneficial.
So Seth, what's your take on the low kicking championships? Those kyukoshin guys look pretty deadly. As someone who's practiced so many styles, what techniques do you think they're using to be so incredible?
33:35 the sound comes from his fingers like the tip of a whip cracking, he whips is arms and the fingers make the cracking sound like a whip does, it wont work if he held a fist
the Abraham Lincoln one was my favorite video too it sucks that nobody watched it it's the video I most enjoyed and I enjoy all of your stuff by the way you're awesome seth
Before mma was so established I used to always play the how would I build a perfect fighter game, and back then I always thought having someone grow up cross training in Sanda and Catch was the dream combo. Fun to see you rate them both so highly
I don't know if you have maybe run into a form of Karate called Cuong Nhu. It originates out of Vietnam. I wanted to bring it up because their conference is coming up this memorial day weekend and it's in North Carolina. While it's obviously very similar to what you are very familiar with, it does have enough variance from what I see to notice differences. Meaning Hard Soft, it does blend both styles. I thought it might be something interesting and the conference isn't half way across the world. Maybe this gets noticed.
So great to experience another year of you Sensei excited for the run back of USDC S3. If its possible, would love to see if its possible to shed some spotlight on an obscure Filipino Martial Art called Sumayaw ng Kamatayan (Yaw-Yan for Short) Its a striking based Filipino Martial Art that takes a heavy influence from Muay Thai but has quite a few Distinctions that separate it. Some Key Examples would be Eduard Folayang and Joshua Pacio from ONE FC, and though its not mentioned has been represented by Josie Riza from Tekken 7. Would love to see your thoughts on it! Hope you see this! Keep Kickin People in the Face! 🤙
Trying to read the board on the back, I recommend hockey fighting for the next video because it's hockey season now, and that sounds very interesting. I'm curious who you find to talk to and how much thought they put into technique as players.

LOVE YOOOUU SENSEI! Happy holidays my man!
Nice working, bud. Nurgle Bless! Keep rockin as you please
Seth you do know that pro wrestling stems directly from catch wrestling correct? As does American collegiate wrestling and Brazilian luta libre, and Japanese shooto (also partially sambo and bjj)
yes Seth you are definitely my fav martial arts youtuber
My favorite video: The Abe Lincoln one.
Top 5* RUclipsrs:
1) Renaissance Periodization
2) Papa Meat
3) Sensei Seth
4) hard2hurt
5) mmashredded
6) Knight Jiu-jitsu
As a fledgling youtuber who struggles with consistency, I admire and respect your commitment to provide new videos almost every week.
Happy new year to you too! Yes, you are Amon my favourite 5.😉
You are my favorite most entertaining RUclipsr! There’s a lot of times where you made jokes and I was thinking the same thing
Awesome list of 43 martial arts in 45 minutes!! ONLY Sensei Seth! LOL
My personal fav vid of the year was the Sanda Chinese Kickboxing video!
Honestly, I loved the cinematic fighting video. Top tier entertainment and you should see about a collab with fikshun
Thank you Seth, your content feeds me
People (I catch myself doing it too!) so often judge a martial art or fighting style by the wrong metrics.
Ermm no. Larping is larping, not martial arts.
Cool concept tho
@Muaykhao187
Combat LARPs so more focus on combat and fighting more than like the roleplay aspect.
MMA is fantastic for just straight up 1v1 combat, but it is a little too brutal for longevity IMO, i definitely wouldn't want to get in the cage after age 40.
seth yum yum yum thank you for the tricks! your content feeds me!
Yes, one of the best RUclips channels .
The kyokushin camp you were at was a bit of a McDojo situation, but your conclusions aren't bad.
My notes about kyokushin so far:
- heavy emphasis on hardcore training to tire yourself to extreme and then keep going.
Ashihara fixed it by adding tai sabaki
- as a plus related to the flaw, it has good countering and trading.
Since you enjoyed the Buhurt tournament you could go to one of the world tournaments next year. IMCF is going to be in Houston August 6-10.
I can't wait for more sumo! Those videos are my favorite, but I like them all.
So Seth, what's your take on the low kicking championships? Those kyukoshin guys look pretty deadly.
As someone who's practiced so many styles, what techniques do you think they're using to be so incredible?
As a parkour guy that has always thought of parkour as a martial art I appreciate being validated by the sensei himself
YUM YUM YUM THANKYOU FOR THE MEAL.
You're one of the few channels I'm a member of, so I guess you have to be top 5.
Sanda is probably the perfect style for your in particular. I hope you get a competition video in this year!
U actually are in my top 5 favorite RUclipsrs. Probably my n⁰ 4, but don't let it get into your head 😤
You’re in my top five Sensei Seth. Keep up the good work.
I really love your approach to martial arts
Before mma was so established I used to always play the how would I build a perfect fighter game, and back then I always thought having someone grow up cross training in Sanda and Catch was the dream combo. Fun to see you rate them both so highly
The sumo series is my absolute favorite
I don't know if you have maybe run into a form of Karate called Cuong Nhu. It originates out of Vietnam. I wanted to bring it up because their conference is coming up this memorial day weekend and it's in North Carolina. While it's obviously very similar to what you are very familiar with, it does have enough variance from what I see to notice differences. Meaning Hard Soft, it does blend both styles. I thought it might be something interesting and the conference isn't half way across the world. Maybe this gets noticed.
Abraham Lincoln wrestling probably my favorite this year.
Bro, that's so funny. I love throwing the 'U can't C me' followed with the F-Five. It's the best move lmao
So great to experience another year of you Sensei excited for the run back of USDC S3.
If its possible, would love to see if its possible to shed some spotlight on an obscure Filipino Martial Art called Sumayaw ng Kamatayan (Yaw-Yan for Short)
Its a striking based Filipino Martial Art that takes a heavy influence from Muay Thai but has quite a few Distinctions that separate it.
Some Key Examples would be Eduard Folayang and Joshua Pacio from ONE FC, and though its not mentioned has been represented by Josie Riza from Tekken 7.
Would love to see your thoughts on it! Hope you see this! Keep Kickin People in the Face! 🤙
I'm beyond stoked that Seth is returning for USDC 3! And I'm definitely going to Google Yaw-Yan after I finish this video.
I have two more martial arts for you to try: Baritsu and Irish stick fighting. I think you'd find these very interesting and would make great videos.
You're definitely in top five, along with Jake and Mike, would love to see you guys collaborate again
Trying to read the board on the back, I recommend hockey fighting for the next video because it's hockey season now, and that sounds very interesting. I'm curious who you find to talk to and how much thought they put into technique as players.
