This video is about clear coating an SLA prototype bottle. How do you take a SLA part and make it clear. I show you how to take a translucent SLA prototype bottle and make it clear so you can see through it.

I find that slinging the excess material onto a scrap piece of cardboard help with runs and bubbles. If you miss anything you can use a brush to pops bubbles before that cure

Good grief Eric, I've never seen a sanding ball before, cheers.

Looks like a pretty labour-intensive process, but the final result is absolutely worth it!

You can get felt and cotton polishing bobs in wheels, cones, balls. Have a mandrel on them just like your green ball. I use them for polishing things like intake manifolds down in the nooks and crannies. They'd work perfectly for the lip of the bottle inside!

It's very satisfying seeing the clearcoat turn the inside transparent. How strong is the bottle btw?

Prefect for prototyping, not suitable for everyday use.

I appreciated (very much) actually _seeing_ the cleanup process (which, maybe that _was_ your intention here?) - but, what would have been the downside, if any, to (as you mentioned,) having “the printer cutting the bottom part off, so _they_ can sand/finish the part” for a prototype of this nature? Thanks!

Drill presses don't like those side loads much - keep an eye on the run out.

    Video suggestion:
How about making clear plastic domes out of thin 0.5 mm acetate or PVC sheet. These could be useful for many things and might be simpler than those of heavy gauge acrylic.

Thankyou for this very good helpful video!! Can you maybe also make a video about 3D printing a bottle with screw lid?🙏🏾 I want to make a model of a ball shaped bottle that can hold glitter water and can be refilled. I use Blender for the model but I hear about the nuts and bolts assets not being accurate enough. And then I want to make a silicone mold from it to use for epoxy resin. So it can become a product.

    Hi Eric,
when taking photos of glass containers insert a sheet of paper (black or white) into the bottle, depending on the background!

Well done! Thanks for the process! I used a spray paint clear Rustoleum with similar results. I'd love to try it with the two part urethane clear. Hopefully it's more durable and won't yellow over time :)

Wow, an amazing result! (I’m not sure whether I’m more impressed by your technique or your patience 😁)
Checking the link for the urethane reminded me: Resins tend to be pretty expensive (vs my personal budget anyway), and usually come in much larger quantities than I need for the small projects I typically do. Is there anything to be done about extending shelf life? I’ve found that refrigerating small amounts in 100% full containers helps, sometimes using the argon/nitrogen mix from my MiG welder to flow over and flush the container as I close the lid. This can extend life a fair bit (to maybe a year?), but I’d like to be able to go longer. Can unmixed resin or unopened epoxy be kept below freezing to extend life? Any other thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks for your videos, they’re incredibly informative and practical!

Very cool. I was playing around with clear PLA. If I tweaked it just right I could get it semi-transparent like textured glass but not as clear as this bottle.
Have you tried this technique with an FDM filament before?

What materials can be dissolved in acetone or xylene then be used as a material for injection molding? I have some beautiful colored acrylic, but when I heat it to try and form it to the shape I need, it shrinks! At lower heat hazing appears at bending areas. Please help.

Is your method of making/reproducing items cheaper than 3-D printing? Basic tools cost estimate? Liquids, pressure tank, key core items. Can you give me idea? I. Anew by and deciding best route as I have limited income.most items I make would be 1foot square or smaller. 6 to10 inches. Tech containers/waterproof.

Would it work to leave half of the sanding ball disks off, resulting in a flat-ish bottom sanding dome, to deal with that right angle, where the side meets the flat bottom?
