Brilliant track. As you clearly enjoyed this there are 2 other classic tracks of Chris’s you’d love- The Revolution/Light a Fire/Liberty and The Leader/The Vision/What About Me. Both absolutely fantastic.

How did I overlook that one? Haven't heard the song in ages. It is still one of my favourites by Chris. Such a great storytelling.

Chris DeBurgh brings history right to your ears. The 3rd crusade. Richard Cœur de Lion vs. Salah ad-Din. The battles and the Ramla Treaty in 1192. Hear the horses galloping and swords clashing ( and the knights sneezing after sniffing 12th century pollen grains ). Great song.

You are very fortunate my friend. This is just one of several Chris de burgh historical epics. Some one has already mentioned Revolution/Light a fire/Sweet Liberty and the Leader/The Vision/What about me both brilliant epics spilt into 3 songs. But there is also the Mirror of the Soul and I like to add Borderline from 1982 to Say goodbye to it all in 1986 which are the same story. Enjoy. You are in for a treat.

Wow, what a beautiful song and a great and touching reaction! I'm a fan of Chris de Burgh, but I never knew he did this song.
In my view, the brave crusaders deserve a memorial day in every country, maybe we need some new crusades too. The spirit of the crusaders certainly could benefit us today.

So glad to hear there’s a fellow fan here!😊 This was an older album, and as I wrote in my comment, based in truth. Chris has a CD available called ‘Best Moves’ and if you’re a fan, it has this song on it, and many more of his earlier greatest hits. You can probably find the complete album available here on RUclips to download.😊

@@bradtaggart5509 Hi Brad, fellow fan and thanks a lot for the info on the new album! I will so enjoy to listen to it! :) Chris de Burgh is really such an amazing artist, actually my first ever concert I went to was his concert, at the age of 14, after begging my older cousins and their girlfriends to tag me along. It was absolutely fantastic!
I can well imagine the song is based on true events, we have a lot to thank the crusaders for. :)

@@ginafromcologne9281 Hi Gina, it’s not a new album. It’s from somewhere back around 1982 or so, and it’s a greatest hits album from his first bunch of albums. He’s been putting out albums since the mid 70’s. 😊 it’s really an excellent one. Every song is good. The cover has him on one side in white and the other in black playing chess against himself. Hence the name of the album ‘Best Moves’. Good name for a greatest hits album.

@@bradtaggart5509 Oh, I see. That album cover rings a bell. I really need to go threw my albums again. I lived in a shared apartment for a while and since then, I own CDs of artists I have never seen and some of my favourite pieces are missing. :/

@@ginafromcologne9281 Hi Gina, that happens. I think most of us have had roommates at one point in time and can relate to that situation. I sure can. The complete album is available here on RUclips, I went and looked. Someone posted it. Just type his name and the album name in the search bar and it will come up for you. Each song is separated, but they are all together and in order. You will see the album cover I described. There’s a song on the album called ‘Spanish Train’ and the lyrics talk about God and the devil playing chess, and I’m sure that is the idea behind the album cover.😊 Great song. ‘Waiting for The Hurricane’ is another amazing song, but they are all great.

So great to see someone react on that masterpiece! When everyone in my high school in 1985 (Einstein's school in Aarau Switzerland, btw :)) was paying Chopin and Mozart, this was my song I was playing in my piano lessons :D
He had a lot of anti-war songs in his carreer and also several that critizise the church but most of all he is and always was one of the greatest storytellers in music.

This was all based in truth about the third crusades, Richard the Lionheart 1190’s, saving Jerusalem, along side the Knights Templar, from Saladin and the Saracens. (Saracens in Modern day would translate to something similar to the Islamic extremist groups Hamas, Isis, Taliban, etc.) Chris de Burgh, although he isn’t a Christian recording artist, has much of his music based in religion. I have a lot of his music. He’s a real storyteller 100%. Great review bro, and you’re right, it was like a whole movie in 8 minutes. I have that album, ‘Crusader’, it’s awesome.

Well Chris was brought up as a good Irish Catholic, so he uses the christian idiom a lot in his music... Spanish Train / A space Man etc..

    • @bradtaggart5509
      @bradtaggart5509 7 месяцев назад

@@sysiphuscorinth Agreed. Though the story in Space Man really makes you think about the whole story of the birth of Jesus the way it actually happened. An amazing song, and so is Spanish Train. There’s another commenter below ginafromcologne that I mentioned Spanish Train to in recommending an album.

I'm not sure you have your history correct there my friend.
Lionheart never took Jerusalem. He tried and failed twice after which he made a peace treaty with Saladin that ended the third crusade.
Also, Saracen is not in the slightest akin to any kind of Islamic extremist group. It was a general term used by Europeans in the 12th century to describe Muslims or dark skinned people.

Great reaction!!I adore Chris de Burgh, especially his trilogies...If you want, listen the greek version (of course the lyrics don't referring at the Crusades!!),titled"Gia mena tragoudo"(I sing for me),live 2005,by a great Greek singer named Vasilis Papakonstantinou, and, listen too the greek version of "Sebastian",and other songs of him...

I was always a fan of Chris de Burgh's music, bought his albums (still have them) , a great storyteller, though professional musicians don't rate him that highly. He was very much into making a bob or two and had his own formula for making hits. Not "just a common man", born in Argentina a son of a Diplomat, he lived in a Castle in Ireland so always had money. Great stories, but they were mostly just that, from his imagination, and had little to do with truth in history. Richard 1st won a few battles but never took Jerusalem back. I still like listening to his songs though. Just don't take the stories too seriously. Spanish Train was his first Album, some good stuff there too worth listening to. At the time of his popularity it was a strange time in Music in the UK with Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells success. Chris de Burgh's songs were in a similar "thoughtful" vein. You put on the Albums and let yourself drift away. Probably my main reason for liking his Music is that his (later) biggest Hit meant a great deal to me and a beautiful woman I loved and lost - Lady In Red
