I remember this song when I was 22yrs now I'm 56 when I and my brothers we use to enjoy this kind of music at home. They are all gone now 5 if them and my mother. May their souls rest in peace. I will forever miss them. The good memories they left me with are always making me smile and create good memories for my kids to cherish when I'm no more.
Aw, you made me cry then saying that, your brothers and your mumma all passed now. 😢reading that and listening to Bruce sing this beautiful song along with his magic piano work, just threw me back for the day.. god Bless you, so sorry for your sad losses. ❤️
I'm a 42 year old male,a interstate truck driver by trade,an this tune makes me tear up for some reason, then again beautiful music will do that I guess..thanks for sharing......memories 👍👍
Greg Kent I'm a 54 year old joiner , quality is quality don't matter how old we are or what we do ,when you fail to appreciate good stuff like this then its time to worry .
My Mam passed away-sadly,and a little unexpectedly in hospital last July- i always remember this song stopped her in her tracks to listen 'on a rant' lol-when i played it in the late 90's then it was Bruce in concert in LA -this is a beautiful version -making the mind drift and wonder where a gentle and pleasant soul who played down her illness and carried on so upbeat in life is now-apart from rested in peace i dedicate this song to her memory-Ar Dheis de go raibh a anam
I'd be honored if some Bruce Hornsby fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of AGAINST ALL ODDS by Phil Collins and WALKING IN MEMPHIS by Marc Cohn on my YT channel in tribute to a couple of great piano pop standards from the 80s/90s. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and wishing everyone the best in the '020s.
my tears are flowing and I am unstoppable. What is happening to me here? I feel music and play every beat with everything that makes me. But I just listen now and I thank for such a gift to hit me in the heart - THANK YOU
Oh my god , the piano ,!!this was already my most beautiful song ever in my whole godamn life , sung by the DON HENLY ,then this ,nothing in my life musically will EVER top this ,Bruce you are the king......
Been listening to Bruce since the 80's - aware lyrics, wonderful piano style. Saw him in Dublin live, mid-90's - just him and a grand piano - mesmeric. Words fail me!.
This is such a good version. Bruce Hornsby is a genius on the piano.. he can literally make it talk. ! Don Henley made this song a hit but for me the star of this is Bruce and his magic fingers...
It doesn't get any better than this, Bruce Hornsby can convey his every thoughts and words. He's a truly magnificent artist. His music is the soundtrack of America 🇺🇸. 🏴🙏❤️🎼
Just found it a few weeks ago,September 2016! absolutley brilliant, just cant get enough of it!!!! Il always listen to this version,Bruce you done it a different kind of justice!!!! ✌❤and respect from, Clydebank,Scotland.
Been with my lady 34 years now , Bruce has been there nearly the same , I've got many faults but I obviously have good taste too , this is pure class .
What a phenomenal singer songwriter.A maestro on the key boards.Have most of his music on discs etc. Have seen him in concert and was impressed with his musical arrangements, and performance.
Bruce Hornsby with Don Henley who've created this track did a marvelous work of musical art - Don with his husky voice 'Bruce with his phenomenal piano skills...
So very peaceful.,Spiritual healing Thank you for all the songs you've written and composed for me. I feel so very special and loved.Thank you very much with greatfull feeling forever
Words cannot express how much this mans music fills me with joy and emotion. In my opinion and whilst I love Elton and Billy of those alive today he is respectfully the best constantly changing and evolving. From the first time I saw him in London Hammersmith Oden 1988 given a ticket by a friend. The last with the noisemakers in my new home Charlotte NC 2018 Thanks for the music great man from a guy who’d never heard of you until one night in 1988 that became a life long admirer of your exceptional talent.
Don is a genius, I admire him so much and I love this song in the original version; but this version is awesome too! Emotional, beautiful, deep, moving. Bruce is not only a talented musician, he feels and live the music. A genius!
This is the intro from Bruce Hornsby and the Range DVD end of innocence! I will never forget this! The amount of suspended/crushed chords is beautiful 👌
Oh come on, what more can I say about this guy....I'm at a serious loss of words to describe how great a musician he is. I was sold in the 80's with him...now this rendition of a song he helped make nearly tops the original
It's from the live DVD/Video "A Night On The Town". This audio version was only available on a German CD single as a B Side. A very rare and beautiful version of this amazing song.
Thanks for sharing this. I am a long term fan who plays his music every day for the last 35 years. I hadn't heard this version and it is absolutely superb. Need to find on MP3 if I can. Bruce is a musical genius.
Join the club Robert , how come he is so under appreciated , the man put his music in my head 35 years ago and I'm still loving it ,and so is 1 of my kids , the other never got it !
There is something about the great keyboarders - Hornsby, Jackson Browne, Benmont Tench of the Heartbreakers -- that slays me. There's a brilliant cover of Mystic Eyes when Tom Petty, hors de soi-meme in hasty French turned to Tench in a dreamstate and said play the music, play the music, and he did.
@@stephenlivesey4188 He didn't want to be a popstar... didn't want to play the fame game... stubbornly insisting on being a musical virtuoso, on creativity & originality...I think he's brilliant & could listen all day long but lots didn't/don't like his refusal to regurgitate the same material, to perform a song the same way twice.
The End of the Innocence" is the lead single and title track from Don Henley's third solo studio album of the same name, released in 1989. Henley co-wrote and co-produced the song with Bruce Hornsby, who also performed piano; both artists perform the song live in their respective concerts..end of story...
This performance came from the Bruce Hornsby & The Range - A Night On The Town DVD. Probably the best version of this song played by Bruce Hornsby & The Range along with the late Joe Henderson on saxophone. I have this DVD hidden somewhere inside my storage room.
My dad (since died) used to play this in his lorry when he drove across Europe. Reminds me of us driving through the alps. Sweet sweet times 😢
Old is gold. Always
Love this version.... never tire of Bruce's music.... just makes me feel good
Still here in 2022 it's just as good as ever.
Best intro ever. Gets me every time. 8 mins 25 secs of bliss ❤️❤️❤️
‘I know a place where we can go to wash away the sin’.
I sure wish I did.
When singer song writers still existed. Lost legends👍🏻
Springsteen, Etheridge, Lorde - er, OK : I'd better stop at Lorde ;)

Il brano gia' di per se e' stupendo..ma l'introduzione di Bruce Hornsby lo rende veramente emozionante!!
Magic made into music, no doubt about it. Thank you!
No words will ever do that intro any justice...plugged straight into the heart!
Absolutely amazing Bruce is so talented unlike the “musicians” of today

The intro piano is the most emotional and that I've ever heard so far ... crosses the heart and is like falling in love for the first time. I love it
Anna Congiu Je suis d'accord.
You said the words right out my mouth, pure class!!
Very true and beautifully said.

Beautiful version of this song. The piano opening is absolutely stunning. Thanks for uploading, and of course, THANKS to Bruce for the magic

This song always makes me tear up I just adore it.Thank you Mr B Hornsby and Mr D Henley ❤️
It is only wonderful works of art like this that keep me from hating life, which I find, generally speaking, vulgar. Thanks for posting.
One of the greats that will always be on my bucket list to see before I'm gone. Music is love.
Genius isn't a big enough word to describe Bruce Hornsby's talent.
Been listening to Bruce since the 80's - aware lyrics, wonderful piano style. Saw him in Dublin live, mid-90's - just him and a grand piano - mesmeric. Words fail me!.
Reminds me of early Springsteen, Lofgren and Jackson Brown, great songsmiths who put a tale across so beautifully.
This is such a good version. Bruce Hornsby is a genius on the piano.. he can literally make it talk. !
Don Henley made this song a hit but for me the star of this is Bruce and his magic fingers...
Hit the nail right on the head. He is a pure genius…
Couldny have said it better myself.
So right,I’m 74 yrs now but played the cd continuously in my cavalier !
We should be allowed to "like" this upload every time that we listen to it - then you'd have over 1 million by now. :)
From the very first time, the first note, you knew this one was going to rip your heart.I am so grateful for the various types of masterclass music

Best version of this tune by far.
Absolutely right.
The piano intro is the best ever, which really makes it the best version of the tune.
I'm on a to
Don Henley makes this song really work. A great collaberation of Henley and Hornsby for sure!
Could be biased because the proper Don Henley one is still not on RUclips (and hasn't been for many years).
What a piano....emotional to the bone....makes you cry....and hope.....greetings from Greece
hope all is well in your beautiful country.

Bruce may not know how to help us retrieve our innocence, but he helps us know we have lost it, and that we should realize where we are.

Some of the chord progressions just blow me away, god I wish I had his talent. Legend- period.
The very first time I heard "the end of the innocence" shortly after it was released...I knew instantly that Bruce was playing the piano.
I have no idea where this came from , but I downloaded it back in the Kazaa days as a single track. Its impeccable.
thank you for sharing ....

I adore this song its a fantastic combination of gorgeous words and music by 2 awesome men ❤️❤️

The way Bruce Hornsby creates tension towards the end of the intro and almost makes you beg him to resolve it is just heavenly.
