A teacher does first a DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENT to understand the student's level of understanding of any topic in a subject. Secondly, a FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT is done to plan the strategies to teach the topics, identify gaps, misunderstanding, and evolving understanding. Finally, a SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT is conducted for report writing and to check the learning of the student. So it is not formative that is done first, it is diagnostic!
Thank you Geetha. You are correct. Didn’t want to go into that level of detail as the video would get too long. Not sure about other counties but in ours they show only formative and summative in report cards.
@@WhatsUrHomeStoryMalayalam For report cards only formative & summative is considered but for a teacher everything starts with the diagnostic & it is so in all the countries. Even if the video becomes long it is significant that right information is posted on a public platform. Take it easy.

Lots of other paths for them to succeed even if they don’t end up with the traditional 4 year college track. Not the end of the world. Parents, don’t worry if your child does not perform well or does not go into the honor track. They will excel in their own way if they are allowed to follow their passion.

Great question! I would say depends on each student, 8th grade is not that bad, your kid will be still in middle school. To be honest, kids will adapt faster than adults so pls don't worry about it too much. Be there for your kid with open mind so that he can come to you and vent whenever he feels like. In india private schools give loads of home work for kids. In us it is the opposite. Private schools in us the teachers take care of everything for kids. Kids do assignment at school and they learn almost everything at school itself. No homework. Rarely they bring things as assignment to do at home. Bcz Private school make sure parents work is also reduced.
After all this info, you can add what. Parents role is in American education system.what does the school expect the student to do at home ? What kind of discipline and routine will school expect parents to do at home for positive learning to happen ? Just knowing what student is doing at school is not enough, the important question is what am I supposed to know / do / learn / reinforce/ support/ provide to my child at home for helping his development . What is whole child development compared to cognitive learning ?

Middle school courses don’t count for high school GPA in our schools, kids just take higher level courses at high school and count that GPA, for example some kids may take calculus starting 9th or 10th and do college level math in high school. But the algebra or geometry that they took in middle school don’t count for high school GPA of those students .
Agree, middle schools courses do not, however, if a middle schooler takes a high school course that will be counted towards their GPA. Thank you Leena for your feedback.
@@WhatsUrHomeStoryMalayalam Sure. My concern is only about the stress factor and over ambitious parents pushing kids to take high school course in middle school. It is all really unnecessary. Don’t push kids into advanced courses , simply because they can handle it. It is good to give them spare bandwidth for social development activities like fun with friends, volunteer work, chores at home etc. practicing self control and self motivation is lots more important in the long run, as often what we see is kids over pressured by parents in middle and high school, falling through the cracks once they hit college as they never got a chance to practice self control and initiative

You mean from India? There used to be recruiting drives for STEM teachers from India around 20 years back. Not sure if that’s happening now with all the visa restrictions. If you are here already, maybe you can check into being a substitute if you have a working permit. I don’t think any of the school districts sponsor visas.
The only way a company can sponsor work visa in the US is to show that they cannot find an eligible candidate locally. For non stem fields that is going to be extremely difficult as there is a huge talent pool here.

Thanks so much, chechi! This is a series I am looking forward to. 1 question..Do you think kids need extra practice like Kumon,Mathnasium, etc or whatever is taught at school is sufficient ?
Thank you Kavya. Frankly speaking if the instructions in school are good they don’t need but most often it is peer pressure for parents as everyone else sends their kids. Also different kids respond differently. My second one hated kumon. Was pure torture for her and us,
Agree, kimon etc just take the joy out of learning and make kids think very mechanically about math. Creative problem solving is better to practice . Or if your kid is particularly good at math and enjoy challenge, Singapore math workbooks are very good
It was very informative.... Good to know things in detail-Anita
Thank you Anita
Is the school free for citizens only or for all?
Yes, public school is free to all.
Very informative 😊
Glad it was helpful! Thank you Remya!
Very informative..
Thank you Savitha
This video is informative. Can you do a video exclusively on SAT exam? By when do the students start preparing for it, curriculum, average scores etc.
We can look into it, thank you Rohini!
Hi, thank you for the video. Very helpful for a parent of 2.5 years old. Felt like a trailer for what lies ahead 😊

Thanks a lot Anu !
Good information
Thank you Anitha
Will we get job as special education teacher in u.s.a . can you tell me? Divya.
I was waiting for this vdeo🤩🤩🤩
😃🙏🙏🙏
Need your help on the med one 😀

I went to school in Kerala till 3rd grade.. then the rest was in the US.. recently I took my kids back to Kerala for two years.. it was a good experience .. now they are back in the US taking online school from Kerala 😂😂
😀 Good to know, Thanks for sharing.
Waiting for sequel for this
Sure Archana
Thank u 🙏 we are joining school this fall(lol i mean my child)
Have a doubt, do you like give extra tutions here in elementary…
I used to wonder why kids do like kumon and give test and skip grade at school.. wont it be more pressing.. but now it makes sense.. its fr total gpa
Aww… good luck to you both! 😊
Some kids thrive when given more work. So it is helpful for those kinds of kids. Doing advanced is not always good nor is skipping a grade (from our experience done both). Will do another video on that.
Super
🙏🙏🙏
Rather than talking so much.. say what u can do for the schools in kerala
Thank you

Test account, No body is coming to you 🤷♂️🤷♀️ or requesting you 😳😱 or coming to your naadu 🙄
But why are you here then 🤷♂️🤷♂️😱😱😱
@@pancyn5914 they requested for coming here so I am here. They don’t have enough software engineer so company proceed to bring intelligent engineers because they don’t get enough ppl here. All fake exp ppl they get here in IT. So they used to bring ppl from other countries.
If you don’t know all the politics then don’t comment for unnecessary things.
Fact would be always fact.
Nurses can come here and do clinical job till they clear RN.
Few other jobs has same respect and salary in India as well as USA.
They don’t need to die for USA or foreign countries
Fact is fact
The best thing about US education is their " no child left behind" or " every student succeed" philosophy.
🙏👍
As an educator myself, I found this extremely fascinating
Thank you
Agree!
Just don’t glorify education..it’s necessary, but don’t glorify, please!!
Thank you for watching!
