Our Rating System:
We rate albums out of 10. Any album that scores 8 or higher gets a Toe Tag. If an album gets Two Toe Tags then it gets added to the list in the link above. We do not review EP's but we may cover them in our New Release videos should they come up.
In regards to our Reaction videos:
As many of you know RUclips can be an unpredictable and often unfair place when it comes to copyright rules and their enforcement. If our video ends up getting cut due to copyright reasons it will be labeled in the title as a Review rather than a Reaction. The music video portion of the video will be cut out and you will only see our before and after thoughts. Unfortunately this is the best we can do under those circumstances and we would appreciate a Like rating on our videos to help us overcome any negative algorithmic affects.

I love this song. Really creative and different. I think even some people who never liked the band might like this because of the fact it's so different. Big respect to them for trying new things!
This is a grower! After 5 times hearing this song I have to say this song is great, also lyrics and vocal wise. And i am not a big prog fan.
Matt Shadows has one of the best vocal coaches in the industry and has been going to practice with him everyday for years now. They did say this song leans on the side of discomfort. And like you said when you learn the song and start listening to it more, you will like it a lot. Seriously. It just gets better and better.
Surprised you didn’t like the vocals, I thought they sounded superb.
Agreed, the vocals were actually pretty good. Deeper than before but ot still sounds the " same"
They’re just comparing his current range to 10 years ago
@@thetannernation he said he didn’t like the vocals and said he sounded like he just chained smoked. So I feel my comment is appropriate
@@EricJaegerMusic I love the vocals. Considering what he’s gone through with his vocal chords I was impressed
Epitome of a grower. After about 4 listens I can’t get it out of my head. Wake up with the riff in my brain.
Out of tons of RUclips reaction videos for this song so far, I was eagerly waiting for your reaction on this!
I absolutely love this song. The more I listen, the more I love. However, I also love old school prog too
I really dig the song. It's a slow burner & grows on you. Hope the entire album takes us on a ride. Either way, great reaction guys & keep it up!🤘🏿🖤🔥
Matt has blown his voice out 100%. People thing he’s trying something new. He ain’t. You could hear it on their last few shows of the stage. He’s blown it out trying to his insanely high notes without the raspiness to carry it
A7X 🤘😎
Rocking the Organectomy, Very Nice.
Long time A7X fan. They actually were the band that got me into metal and playing guitar. Wasn’t a fan of this song at first, but it definitely grew on me and now I really love it.
Definitely a grower. I’m hooked on it now! I have about 150 listens now 😅
Jesus im at 60 and I thought that was a lot😂😂😂😂
That song is fucking brilliant. Wow.
Here's a take of the song and to those who didn't like it:
Having an idea about the theme may change your perspective about the song.
It is mentioned in their video that they are inspired by the philosophy of Albert Camus. Read his view about existentialism and absurdism.
Absurdism
- a philosophy based on the belief that the universe is irrational and meaningless and that the search for order brings the individual into conflict with the universe.
Quotes from Albert Camus :
- "The realization that life is absurd cannot be an end, but only a beginning. This is a truth nearly all great minds have taken as their starting point. It is not this discovery that is interesting, but the consequences and rules of action drawn from it."
- "There is but one truly serious philosophical problem, and that is suicide. Judging whether life is or is not worth living amounts to answering the fundamental question of philosophy.
Then have a listen again to the song and pay attention to each element. The lyrics, the chords and notes, and the unusual writing pattern:
Lyrics and Video
- representation of this philosophy
Music and Song Structure
- A representation of the "...universe is irrational..." and us searching for order brings "conflict". It doesn't make sense. And that's the point, I guess.
Truly artistic in my opinion.
It’s super proggy. Weird first listen but after going back through it a few times, it really hits! I’m really excited to hear the rest of this album.
Definitely a grower. First listen, I liked it and thought it was strange to the ears, vocals caught me off guard. Now I can't stop playing it.
This sounds a bit like Mastodon in terms of old 70s space stoner rock elements.
Definitely a grower. I love prog tho so it hit me right away. Have u guys reacted to Heimdal from Enslaved ? I’m going to check. Love that album
This song is basically using their style from their last album The Stage and expanding upon it to take it in a new direction. I love how experimental this is, I really like this song a lot. Great video guys! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
Singer had blood blisters on his vocal chords in 2018 and had to change his style of singing again
I agree on the vocals, don't know what happened with Matt's voice... Weird sound, like he was yawning the whole song. The solo was the best part of the song for sure and sincerely, nothing else grabbed me, it's a cool songwriting approach but overall I don't see myself going back to this track at all...
Felt the same way when I first heard it but with every listen, it's getting better and better for me. Now I'm addicted to it.
That's what throat surgery does🤷🤷
@@waleedawan5454 Yeah I saw people saying the same stuff, with a few more spins it may change my mind, but idk, I'll try again soon lol
@@Feercholain yeah totally!
Go for it. It's a very proggy song and there's so much going on. I believe it would be unjust if a song like this doesn't get atleast 4 listens before passing the final judgement.
apart from the song being a grower like the whole The Stage album, i read somewhere that this was the artistic approach of the song, the vocals are like this cause the song talks about anxiety, stress and maybe depression (dont know about the last one). anyway i really hope it was m.shadows' approach to the song like this and his voice will be more powerful in the following songs.
I love these guys . The first time I heard it I liked it but I know love it after listening to it a few times . The video is insane 🥰 you need to watch a little piece of heaven . It’s so good for all the wrong reasons
I agree that Matt's voice is different. But bad? Come on, dude! No way!
Bat Country ! Same here, dude,
I was unsure about this song when I first heard. But after a couple more listens I became hooked. Plus Syn's solo might be one of the best I've ever heard and I'm more of a neoclassical guy than a fusion jazz guy
This song grew on me. I liked it on first listen but wasn't sure if it would be something I'd want to hear often. I've given it several listens and I really like it. That intro and how that repeats through the song - reminds me of sirens. Kind of purge like. I'm one of those who likes it when bands try new things - I know many are not enthused with this song. Interested to hear the rest of the album.
Agree about the vocals. From what I gather he’s had to have a few surgery’s on his throat and it’s definitely took it’s toll on what he can do. Listen to there older stuff and compare to now and it’s night and day when it comes to his vocals
I think the point of the song is supposed to make you feel a disconnection. It’s just a little guess though
New Sylois is out too, and out of all the singles they've released this one is the best
Went in pretty much blind to this as I am not very familiar with their music. First listen, didn't really like it. After numerous listens, really digging it. Lots of cool stuff going on.
Song of the year for me. Thanks for the review, i love this channel. P. S He does sound different, people get older and mature.
Two Toe Tags: I have a recommendation for you guys. Chaoseum with their recent video Until the End. Please consider checking it out. GIVE THIS BAND A CHANCE.
Took me 4-5 listens to really dig it. Really grows on you. The changes in direction in the song are intentional as they said they would do in entire album.
City of evil = kids stuff
The stage = adult stuff
A7X growing old LOVE THE PROCES OR DIE!!
So the way the band described this song is that it’s sonically reflecting an anxiety/panic attack. Each element instrumentally and vocally kind of fights each-other by design.
Loving this track 🤘
His voice probably sounds weird because he suffered blood blisters in his throat and not too sure but had surgery so it probably had an effect on his vocals and unfortunately could be permanent
He’s also aged 13 years since his last powerful singing album people don’t sound the same forever I’m afraid got to respect the effort to have vocal surgeries and still give your best possible
They have yet to come to Australia 🇦🇺 to play though 😢 .
I want your guys take on the album. It just released today! I feel maybe I got to keep listening to it but it’s definitely different from everything that they have done
As someone who only really listened to a few songs from Avenged Sevenfold, this had a different energy from something like Bat County or Beast and the Harlot, this song was a construction project with the clock ticking and the machinery starting up for a while until it finally was ready to work properly. The vocals felt off to me but the solos were nice, although I thought it would go heavier and not just die off after that long early part. I thought about Queen for a bit in how the vocals came together around 3:50, that part with vocals were nice there but otherwise it was like his vocal folds were folded seven times prior to singing this and unfolded as the song commenced. I do feel interested in how this song is situated in the album, my interest is piqued.
Also wonder if you will react to the new Sylosis release Deadwood anytime soon? It is a music video released yesterday.
Matt’s voice has changed. He had a very bad vocal injury in 2018 and I think he just hasn’t recovered. He was featured on a cover of Street Spirit by Radiohead a few years ago and his voice sounded dead. Hopefully it’s just this song and he’ll sound better on the rest of the album
You know what, I just realized that certain parts of this song reminds me of Gojira's song "Another World" from their most recent album. Does anyone else hear the similarities?
Same as both you really (well the vocals sound about the same to me)
but wasn't sure how I felt on the first listen, except the strings then solo was great , definitely gonna get the album
seems like the only people who like it have DEATHBAT tattoos 🤣
Hey, would you guys like to be the first to react to a song i recently recorded. The song is called "to all that I've betrayed" by Ardere Mortem. I'm a solo artist experimenting with genres. I'm 19 years old, and i wrote this about 2 years ago when i was 17. I don't have the best recording/mixing experience but it's mixed well enough to be enjoyable.
It's typically frowned upon to self advertise on others channels.
I'll listen to it for sure. But I gotta tell you bro, don't advertise your own stuff.....seriously it's not generally liked by the community😅, just saying
@@JohnFaulkner56 gotta give it a try🤣 it's only gotta work once
I love the song but I also feel like it could be a chill point in the album so will make a lot more sense in the context of the rest of the album. It's already amazing IMO so that will just mean the album is a next level masterpiece
Did you guys see that Vintersea just dropped a new song? The new song is called "At The Gloaming Void" and it's a freaking banger, are you guys gonna cover it on the channel? I've enjoyed your previous Vintersea reactions, so I'm really interested in hearing your thoughts on it! Great video guys! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
I loved it. It sounds like something Alice in Chains would do if they were still around today. I think the distortion is on purpose, but I could be wrong.
Good review and I agree with lots of the comments in this review. You have to check out Frostbite Orckings and review it!
Its definetely a grower, with each listen it gets a better.. But I have a main gripe with CONCEPT albums, If you do a concept album, give us the first song of the album.. If you give us the middle of the album, its gonna sound weird because we dont have a context... But yeah, I am excited to see the rest of the album...
Also, if you want a true rager, there is two songs I recommend:
no_high by the band DARKNET (ruclips.net/video/aOog-JoITiM/видео.html&ab_channel=DARKNET)
Power by King Yosef (ruclips.net/video/_RD6dOKlJaI/видео.html&ab_channel=KingYosef)
Thanks for the content again, much appreciated.
M Shadows had multiple repair surgeries on his throat, so his ability has been nerfed. I believe Self titled is probably the last time you hear his voice pre-surgery, but I don't know the full timeline by heart.
His last full out performance was on Waking The Fallen....after that he got very nasally..
I'm not a huge A7X fan, but first impression I thought I was listening to some 90's Fates Warning. I like it, but I'm not judging it against their catalog.
I'm a HUGE A7X fan who's been revisiting this song for a few days now, and it just doesn't feel..... right. Something is off somewhere in the mix. The music is very industrial and artificial, and the vocals are buried deep in the back of the track. I still can't make out what he's saying and I've listened to it a dozen times by now.
Yeah, the video is definitely praiseworthy but I really don't give a damn about that stuff. I'm here for the music, and it never hits it's stride at any point. There's nothing more infuriating than a heavy metal band releasing a new metal song with no heavy metal in it anywhere.
I'll give them props for exploring new avenues, but at some point you still have to rock out, and this doesn't. It's a little too controlled and sustained the entire way throughout.
This is a grower. However, i agree when you say Matt´s voice is flat. Missed a bigger chorus, a higher note part on the song cause it seemed a bit monotonous to me. The big question is: Is Matt still able to do that higher notes? Guess we´ll find out. Congrats for another great reaction ;) Cheers dudes!
me pasó lo que le pasa a la mayoria y es que a la primera escucha parece un tema aburrido y sin alma, pero despues de varias escuchas es un temazo, en general y ese solo de syn es un orgasmo
Honestly i could never really get into these guys no matter how much i have tried. Respect Avenged Sevenfold but they just don’t really do it for me personally.
Same here. I feel that way about 5fdp. Tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and i just cant get into them.
I’m curious how people would feel about the song if they didn’t see the video at the same time. I think the video has a way of distracting you and making you feel one way when the song itself really drags me in a different direction. I don’t hate the song by any means but it feels like it was done at different time signatures for each person and I don’t know it just felt weird.
I heard it on the radio and was wtf did they do to shadows voice. Im use to the nasally octive he sings at but hearing this it did feel as though the mix or mastering was off on the radio but after listening multiple times and seeing other reviews it has grown on me but I still think shadows voice could be pulled up a little more over those shells.
Not the biggest A7X fan, but this song was ok. Good solo though!
SYLOSIS - Deadwood
No sir, I have perfect pitch, M. Shadows was not flat or sharp.
Video is 100% old school stop animation
Think you guys would dig their Nightmare album. Much better than this.
I feel the song has me on the fence I think the vocals are off the solo felt off.
His voice sounds like he's lacking any power whatsoever. I did not expect this at all, he sounds really bad to me. It sounds like he's really struggling. I don't think I can get into this coming from previous A7X music where he's an amazing singer..
Couldn't agree more. His vocals were not good. Sounds like he had a frog in his throat the whole time. Song is super interesting though. Might be really good within the album.
This song felt lifeless, monotonous, sluggish. Solo was great but that's the best I can say about this.
I've been a fan of A7X from the beginning. MY favorite album to date is The Stage. Not even close. I personally think this song is trash. They peaked and we're seeing the downfall, so have fun casuals.
Weird song from them and don't like it at all. I feel like they've gotten progressively worse over the years. And you're right, the vocals are awful.
Yeah Matt’s voice is dead. He use incorrect technique for years and had surgery and now sounds like this.
Never really been a fan. The Stage that's all
MEH
This song is unbearable. Cant even get through it.
His voice doesn't sound as powerful after his surgery but I still like the way he sounds. I just hope this was just done for this song though because if he sings like this on the rest of the album then it's a serious problem.
They seem so uninspired any more I was pretty excited for this but maybe the album will be faster
