  • Here comes a fun scrappy project where I create a small fold down table without any hinges. It was a fun challenge to see if I could spontaneously turn this little unused corner in the workshop into something more useful.

Nothing is ever stupid. Life is all trial and error. Great ideas here.

I love the way you think....I think like you. Trial and error, I'm not a planner as such. I'm very ADHD. I learn from what didn't work.

THIS IS GENIUS! I love the engineering so simple and so functional. WELL DONE!

Thanks for sharing your approach to problem solving. I love the simplistic usefulness of the solution. The multifaceted studio you've created is a wonderful space!

I think you're exactly right, Linn. If you have a dedicated space for something, you're more likely to do that thing. I recall that Thomas Jefferson kept multiple desks, each for a specific project, and would work at whichever desk was dedicated to the task he wanted to pursue, saving himself the time for reorganizing when he would switch tasks. Nice video, nice idea. Also, nice to see Darbin helping out. 😀

Great simple project. Thanks for sharing the hook-rod-hinge idea.

Can I just say, this is so reminiscent of the "inventions" that Tom Jefferson made up at his mansion at Monticello. Just adapt and keep on adapting. Use all those corners/spaces to their max potential. It's amazing how the proportions, everything seem "just" right. Perfection!

Nice idea! I do, and probably always will, all my planning and drafting by hand. I'm 55, and don't want to change. 😁

What about a french cleat that connects the vertical peice on the cabinet side and the brace that holds up your mini table? Could still be lifted out easily. Another idea would be to use magnets ro help locate everything whilst you cant easily see it? :)

May I suggest a small piece of fabric or leather as a hinge for the support? To protect your toes if the support slips!

Now you will need to fabricate a nice variable color temp. LED lamp to illuminate the worksurface. :)

Haven't watch a vid for a while, but I was a little surprised Linn sounded like she was hyperventilating. Only to realize it was mostly anxiety trying to figure a technical solution to a simple idea.

Cute project! I was thinking that you could make the lip at the end just a little wider/deeper so that it could also serve as a ledge for that loose piece of wood when you aren’t using the tray. 😉

Actually, the loose piece of wood slips in between the rod and the worksurface perfectly!
