Excellent video! One of my favorite games of all time.
Some quick explanation for some of the references that were a lot less obscure at the time:
- Venom's dialogue in the Subway level is a reference to the movie "Speed", where the villain taunts Keanu Reeves's character by saying "Pop quiz, hotshot!" before giving him a dire circumstance.
- The more pessimistic hostages in the Daily Bugle levels are a reference to the Alien movies.
- The more psychedelic decor and Doctor Octopus becoming Mini-Ock are references to Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (which would have been very topical at the time, given that the movie came out during this game's development).

adding to it the "Hans was Here" is a reference to Die Hard main villain who was a Bank robber who raided a large building like the game

5:18 - I think "Hans was where" is a reference to Alan Rickman's antagonist character in Die Hard (1988) Hans Grüber. The main plot of that film is that Hans and his team are attempting to rob the bank in the Nakatomi Plaza (a fictional high-rise financial/business tower, much like the one who the one you're in in that part of the game).

(6:00) If you are actually playing the "what if?" mode, Scorpion and JJJ are playing marko polo, and the second time, spidey says "fish out of water!"
and on (10:55) mysterio makes spideys nickname for him "fish bowl head" a bit TOO seriously XD XD XD

Finding the Human Torch at 4:48 makes me wish for a fantastic four game with ps1 graphics. A third person style game like spider-man 2000, but you play as the fantastic four. I know there was a Fantastic four game but it wasn't full 3d, and it wasn't very good unfortunately...
Oh my God, back when I was 10 this was one of my favorite game. I completed it nearly 28 times or so being so good at it that I managed to complete the whole game twice a day. Speedrunning before this was even a thing. I loved to unlock all those costumes and comics. And here I am, 21 years later hearing the VERY first time about the "What if" mode! Thank you! I guess finishing this game like that many times and STILL missing out on content... Unelievable!

I’m having trouble playing the What If Mode. I entered in the code in the cheats and started a new game, but it still doesn’t work. Am I doing anything wrong? What should I do?
What if?
I type in the code but it doesn’t turn into what if, like it says what it mode entered but when I hit new game it doesn’t do anything different.
Code is different for Nintendo 64 pc and dreamcast,
