    What is a Regista? Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea have taken the Premier League by storm with his unique style of possession based. Key to Sarriball is the use of a Regista at defensive midfield. The role is similar to that of a deep-laying playmaker, but is more heavily involved the attacking side of the game.
    Regista in Italian means ‘director.’ A player who would start his move by lying deep in his own half just in front of the centre-backs then find his teammates with balls into advanced areas. Using his range of passing and vision to dictate the play. The attacking moves will originate from the Regista who will remain at the pivot of every attacking play. In essence, the Regista becomes the focal point as well as the organisational mastermind of a team.
    Over the years, there have been many fine Registas. The first great one was Gerson. He played for the great 1970 Brazil side that went on to lift the World Cup. Gerson was partnered in defensive midfield with, at the time, 20 year old Clodoaldo, a more defensively minded physical central midfielder. 27 years later, the next great Regista made his way to the Champions League final with AC Milan. Andreas Pirlo was the first great modern day Regista controlling things at defensive midfield in Carlo Ancelotti’s christmas tree formation that lifted the Champions League final in 2007. Onto the current day, Jorginho has emerged playing the role for Maurizio Sarri. First at Napoli under the Italian tactician and then currently in the Premier League with Chelsea partnering N’Golo Kante and Ross Barkley in a three-man midfield.
    The signing of Jorginho to Chelsea has allowed Sarriball to flourish in the Premier League. It has freed up Alonso to attack down the left, Morata has got back to goal scoring best and Eden Hazard is set to flourish under Sarri like Insigne did for Napoli with Jorginho being the man to find the Belgian in between the lines.

      I’m still not convinced that Jorginho can play against teams that press him, his defensive liabilities almost costed Chelsea 2 goals by not tracking aubamayang/mhktaryan, most teams will score those chances

      Lennon D'Souza That’s not to do with pressing. The problem with Chelsea’s defence was that the space the between the midfield and back four was too close. Jorginho works well under pressure because he’s really good at passing and reacting quickly

      Luis Mendoza False 9 is pretty simple really, it’s a lone centre forward who drops into space and tries to cause problems for the opposition centre halves who can either follow him deep and leave space in behind for attacking players to exploit or they can leave him be and he can punish them with a killer ball etc

    Regista's can be deadly as long you've got one attack minded and one defence minded box to box on each side of the Regista and most importantly flying full backs in order to stretch teams with long balls. I play a 4-3-1-2 formation with FC Bayern on Fifa in manager mode. Thiago is my 'Regista' with Kante ( ball winner box to box) and Goretska ( attack minded box to box) on each side and Rodriguez ( No.10) behind Lewandowski and Muller. All the creativity is through the middle with Thiago and Rodriguez with Goretzka and Kante doing all the leg work. As this is a narrow formation it's key having Alaba and Kimmich as attacking full backs.

  • @padraigmcgrath3876
    @padraigmcgrath3876 3 года назад

    To be fair to Gerson, he also had all of the credentials of a great defensive midfielder. Yes, Gerson's vision and range of passing were his greatest assets. But in addition, he was also physically very imposing, strong, clean and sure-footed in the tackle. You'd always back him to win a 50-50 ball in the centre-circle. I can think of more than a few holding-role midfielders who have excellent vision and range of passing (qualifying them to play as registi), but who also possess good defensive qualities. After all, in addition to spraying the rangy passes around, protecting the back four is also a duty integral to the regista's role.

    The kryptonite to a register is just put a player on him that doesn't stop running. In our case it would be Fred to just to follow him around like a dog, press him and make runs in behind him to force him into defensive work he hates to do.

I've been trying to tell our fans that Xhaka is a regista since he joined and not a CDM. Both him and jorginho aren't mobile enough, great on the ball , lack positional awareness at times and don't tend to tackle a lot. Not so much in xhaka's case who loves a tackle when he needs to and often gets booked .

      @@StatmanDave he frustrates us arsenal fans as well but overall he is a good player that has been mismanaged by Wenger and even emery so far. When he plays for Switzerland, he is given a free role to link up the play while berhami sits in a deeper DM role and wins back thee ball . Same thing goes when he was at Gladbach , Kramer and Dahoud were the primary ball-winners and they gave it to him so he starts the play . I want to see him play beside Torreira in all honesty , I think it would be a good pairing.

    It's fascinating to see how some roles are hard to understand for people of one country with another football culture. You are discovering regista now while we discovered the box-to-box midfielder with Arturo Vidal. English football is less "logic" and more instinctive; on the other hand Italian football is more like a chess game, so you need a regista, a director, who can make the team move forward. Great video btw'

    whats the difference between a false 9, a striker and a center forward

      A false nine drags out defenders to create space for other players

    • @AlphaCenturi16
      @AlphaCenturi16 6 лет назад +5

      False 9 is a midfielder playing as a striker, dropping in, dragging cbs out to create space. Strikers and center forwards are not much of a difference, maybe strikers are more about off the ball movement and creating and scoring chances, whereas center forwards hold up ball and links up play.

      a striker is a the last man up front, he doesnt drop back to help build up play (lukaku), he sits shoulder to shoulder with the opposition CBs, while a centerforward is freed to move back and fourth and assist, (back in the day rooney, aguero), CF are normally the number 10 when you play two up front, while the ST is the number nine when you play one up front or a front 2. false 9 is what joshua said. teams that play with false nine, the striker position becomes a area of the pitch rather than a player, the flalse nine pulls the defenders away so normally one of the winger make inside runs and become temporarily a striker for that specific play.

    The regista sounds like a perfect role for teams that win by outscoring their opponent (4-3, 3-1, 4-2 etc), and not so much about keeping clean sheets (1-0, 2-0, 2-1 etc ). That obviously makes for exciting football, but leaves many fans biting their nails during the match lmao.

    Do you think Matic can also play as regista and DM? For a defensive midfielder, his passing ability and passing range is really good. And when manager requests him to play as a creator, he does the job too. He made five assists in midfield partnership with kante. It will be really good if Jose evolves matic into a deep playmaker during build up phase and as a destroyer during defensive phase.

      Matic's passing is okayy, but his defending awareness is a lot better than a regista

      do you really think Matic is able to play with 1 or 2 touches in tight spaces? the first problem is he can't pass with his right foot. and when it comes to his assists with Kante, at least 3 of them were flick ons from corners.... stats don't tell the whole story.
