      Also you literally could not see out of them, it was terrible. I always had a headache with mine and was so happy when I started wearing contacts and could actually see. I wear big glasses now and will never wear the tiny ones again!

      yess!! i wore such glasses for 3 years in primary school and i wasn’t hating them or bullied for them, but they never looked so stunning as they are on these models from pinterest, and for some reason i am frustrated that i feel that way mostly because i couldn’t relate to anyone at that time 10 years ago, that type of glasses was weird for a decade, and now as i distanced myself mentally from these glasses to escape embarrassment, they become trendy, the girls look so good in them, but i can’t get over the impression that i will become a weird 10 y.o. me and not a cute girlie

      To me I’m annoyed about this trend because I liked wearing these glasses because they are “ugly” and I was trying be different..

    I like the skinny glasses trend because they subvert that "nerdy" association into something cool, sexy and intentional, rather than what your parents made you wear as a tween. It makes sense that they are making a comeback because they have been so out of style for so long that people looking for a new way to be unique and expressive can reach for nostalgic items like these and change the narrative around them into something current!

      I was a denim skirt hater for a long time, but because I found one that suited my very VERY specific taste, I got it and I love it. It's a gored flared skirt with panels and it's very long, a silhouette that feels very Edwardian to me. It's also in a very lightly washed black denim so it's not obvious that it's denim. It's a shape I love in a practical fabrication and the structure of the denim means it holds its shape nicely even without a petticoat (searching for a suitable vintage petticoat to wear underneath it though for the vibes) and it's perfect for me. It took me finding that one specific skirt out of dozens of other denim maxis I hated to be like "okay yeah maybe this could work."

    I think part of why I dislike polka dots and ballet flats (on myself, anyway) is because I was big into the tumblr/twee fashion in the early 2010’s and those were wardrobe staples. There are certain tumblr fashion tends that I still really love, but twee just doesn’t do anything for me anymore.

    I'm surprised that there aren't more varied examples of the red tights outfit, I never noticed how similar (but cute) most of the looks really are. I used to have a burgundy pair of tights that I would usually pair with other jewel tones, especially navy blue or green. I kinda wanna see some red tights paired with other primary colors!
    your reasoning about denim maxis makes me realize part of why i like a lot of "modest" fashion: I wasn't forced to wear it growing up😬it might be a different story otherwise

    • @lisa_wistfulone7957
      @lisa_wistfulone7957 10 месяцев назад +7

      I love tights (especially in cold weather), and I’ve found that burgundy and purple give me a lot more creative options than red could. I even had a phase of wearing hot pink tights in unexpected ways (like with a more “conventional” grey skirt) just for fun.

    As a former dorky girl with very bad vision, the skinny glasses trend confused me as well. However, I have come to love it as a form of reclamation and overcoming the pain of fearing what is considered, "cringe." It's also reminscent of like, "2001 rom-com heroine has just been hired into her first big-city role..."
    Also, those sneakers are way cuter than other sneakers imo, they look more feminine, low-key, put-together, and serious than the other options, which feel clunkier/less mature (however, the extra weight they provide matches the preferences you alluded to earlier in the vid).

    it's kinda funny because I looove nearly all those trends. I must admit that the ballet flats, denim skirts and narrow glasses emulate awkward-weird-middle-schooler energy. My first reaction was wholeheartedly "ewwww. :((" when I encountered those trends for the first time but it really grew on me. I think it's something about how those elements would be considered weird and would definitely get you bullied as a kid/teen. But they are actually interesting pieces that have the potential to be styled in a fun and stylish way and now I see that and can wear them however I want and not worry about being bullied because I'm a grown ass woman who knowwwws her fits are fire. I feel like low waisted stuff makes me look both shorter and wider at the hips, which I don't want. 2. I'm a big fan of vintage fashion, especially the 1930s-1960s period, and I try to incorporate elements from those eras into my wardrobe. High rise is essential for that vibe, low rise kills it. 3. Every time I see a low rise outfit on an influencer I think to myself I'd like it much better if it was high rise. Or if there's a video of the same outfit but styled with high-waisted vs. low-waisted bottoms, I always like the former better. 4. It's just uncomfy. I don't want to have to bend over and have my butt crack showing, that sounds like a nightmare!

      What I’ve noticed tho is that while in the 2000s when I grew up low rise really was a pant starting barely above the crotch area while nowadays people wear either mid rise and call it low waist or wear super baggy pants Which would also fit higher if worn properly. Just a funny thing I noticed

They were literally all I worse in like middle school because they were the only "nice" shoes I was able to wear because I was too young for heels. They sucked. They gave me blisters worse than docs on the first day of wear. They do NOT protect your feet from puddles and rain. My feet were always cold, dirty, and in pain. Andf don't even get me started on the elasticated ones that kind of form to your feet UGH

    12:00 As far as thin glasses, I am in a similar boat to you, it screams early 2000's to me, and just seeing the frame in your vision at all times. I recently picked up two pairs of glasses, and they are both very similar. But what was important to me, was comfort, no metal digging in anywhere, and how it fit my eye shape and eye brows. I also have a square face, so I can't have tiny frames width wise, or it looks like an old grandpa with those tiny two circle nose glasses haha. So practically, and fashionably, I'm out. But hey, if you get new glasses every three months, it doesn't hurt to have one of every shape, size and colour for your wardrobe! I just get new ones every 2-5 years... so I focus on what looks good on me... and a little detail ;) I have one black/blue with a silver chain, and one brown/black with a gold chain link and swarovski crystals. So I can match my warm tone and cool tone outfits, AND jewellery with my glasses!

    you are totally right about the denim skirt trend and the reasoning why you may love or hate it!!!! As far as the skinny glasses trend goes, yes, I was also the geeky fifth grader wearing them. They were my first pair of glasses and yes I love wearing them again in my 20s. The association for me is less reclamation or nostalgia, but I think it's just the natural progression of fashion to slim down or bulk up in one direction or the other. After the 2010s style of huge-rimmed glasses, it was bound to happen. Also, sexy secretary/librarian is in, and man am I thankful that my bad eyesight is on trend, lol.

    I love this. For the past ten or so years, I have really been trying to focus on only buying clothing that will be my FAVORITE clothing. I have also never been a polka dot lover. Therefore, it is very unlikely that my FAVORITE skirt ever of all time will have polka dots. So even if I see a skirt with a shape and style i like, if it’s polka dots, I don’t get it. This mindset has really reduced the amount of churn my wardrobe sees. I buy way less, and also give away way less. When I’m buying new clothes it’s because something got worn out or stained.

    I'm surprised that tights are in fashion for similar reasons? In my childhood tights were churchwear, my Grandma put me in them with a cute dress for church and that was the only time I wore them. I remember trying to wear tights to school bc I wanted to wear a skirt and it was cold! and the tights got made fun of. 🙃

    Oh dear! I disagree: 1) off shoulder cotton tops are a summer staple for older women with big hips as the naked shoulder balances with the hips & this part of the body still looks good at our age, plus you can show off a stunning necklace 2) polka dots are a classic never go out of fashion 3) long denim pencil skirts are a classic winter staple as the length & thick material keep your legs warm (plus you don't need to shave your legs hoorah!) 4) red tights (read previous comment!) plus what better to go with tartan! 5) I live in good quality trainers because I have plantar fasciitis so I would agree with you about ballet flats, although they're useful to fit in your handbag if you're wearing heels as back up! 6) I can only wear small thin glasses because I am so incredibly short sighted that if I wear anything bigger I would look like I was wearing jam jar bottle ends on my nose! Totally utterly in agreement about neutral clothes - they look old & extremely boring. Yawn! 😂

    Regarding the red tights, I just find it strange that it's specifically red tights that are trending when any color of tights could be styled with the same neutral outfit.
    I happen to already have a lot of different colored tights (including red) because i like doing 1960s mod looks sometimes, so i might give this trend a go just because but i wouldn't go out of my way to buy them if i didn't already have them.

    That skinny glasses thing is 100% cycling trend and you are getting old. Big glasses were in during the 70's and 80's, in 90's and early 2000's the narrow glasses were hip and futuristic, then by 10's we were back in chunky and big than got lighter but still big. So now it is time to head back to small frames, while those big ones are relegated to the "practical" category.

    • @VeraBTT
      @VeraBTT 10 месяцев назад

      It took me forever to find this comment, as a millennial I have thought extensively about the glasses cycle because the skinny glasses were SO cool, elegant, and professional when I was growing up. The big glasses were so bulky and in your face, like having a "kick me" sign on your back. I was in shock when the big glasses came back around, but I warmed up to them a long time ago. I do think that larger glasses are more versatile, however. The skinny glasses only look cool on certain faces, and on others they make the eyes look small, crowded, and make the face look bigger than it actually is.
      Definitely a cycle though, they'll be out again in a few years and then another 10 years will be pass and they'll be sleek and sexy again lol

    I used to think the exact same way about sneakers and I had never been a sneaker girl either (I'm not so much a sneaker person now either honestly) but my lifestyle has changed so much the last couple of years that I started to realize I needed truly comfortable shoes that let me walk everywhere since I don't own a car and need to be using public transport all the time. I was also never a stiletto or high heel person, but I feel like even 2-3 inch block heels were not cutting it for my lifestyle anymore, so I stick to medium chunky soles but with minor foot elevation these days, and honestly I can now see the appeal of sneakers. I'm still far from being a sneakerhead and I don't really go with the sneakers that are trendy, or at least I haven't done so because they are trendy, rather I just get the ones that I like and fit my style and lifestyle, but I think there's a case to be made for comfort when it comes to the sneaker trend.

    I think the skinny glasses trend is cool, but you have to be like unbelievably hot for it to work. Like the aim is like sexy 2000s secretary vibes. Anyone else of normal attractiveness/ non-model levels just ends up looking like a cute little nerd. Nothing wrong with that either, but I firmly stick to a wider frame for my glasses bc I know I'd just end up looking like 5th grade me when I had to get glasses for the very first time.

    Girl you made some great points but honestly you will have to pry red thights and ESPECIALLY off shoulder tops from my cold dead body...it would be like trying to force me back into high waisted pants when I discovered how much better low rise looks on me lol

    I agree with everything except the sneakers 🫢 I do love a sneaker or tennis shoe for comfy everyday outfits. And I love the contrast it gives to a more dressy look. BUT I just wear whatever ones I already have until they die and I have to replace them. I don't care about sneaker trends. I don't get why would anyone just go and buy the trendy ones every time. Shoes aren't cheap. And if you can, you're supposed to wear them until they break down. How are these people replacing them every 2 years when the trend changes?!
    Edit: Ok I forgot I also have a long denim skirt because it's a retro piece from my mom. (Pre-2000s clothes are so cool and such good quality!) I do like it but it can be hard to style, like any long skirt, I feel they're too modest for me, it's easy to look like a catholic schoolteacher, which is not a vibe I'm ever going for.

    I look like a chubby 12 year old who gets bullied every day when I wear thin glasses, but I love they’re trendy again, because on a lot of people they look like on Alison from House MD and I was obsessed with that look for a long time

    I also can’t get into polka dots for the life of me. I think it’s because it reminds me of diseased skin

    denim maxi skirt = summer bible camp vibes. coming from someone raised super christian and forced to wear 'modest' floor length skirts to every church function lol.

    I dont wear ballet flats but I wear minimalist shoes. Shoes with arch support hurt my feet. The flat ones don't. Im guessing because Ive always worn flat shoes or went barefoot so my feet adjusted to that. They are strong and don't need support.

    Really skinny glasses were trendy 2007-09, and I had a smart industrial looking pair and loved them, but my style has changed since then.
