Bobby Broom is the man, and I wish this tune were included on Keyed Up. I feel it is one of the best records showcasing guitar and keys in many a long while.
Actually, Kobie is among the most dynamic drummers I've ever played with... and I've played with quite a few (Hakim, Williams -Tony and Buddy - Blakey, DeJohnette, Steve Jordan, Idris, Al Foster...) I think you might be hearing the volume from the visual of the physical intensity. We used no monitors or headphones, meaning we heard each other clearly in the room. Pretty cool.
I think we were just assuming some volume from the way it appears Kobie is swinging at the kit. He looks so uninhibited, great that he somehow controls his dynamics. Love that the recording was done exactly the way it looks-- nothing better than just hearing each other in the room.
Awesome 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🔥🔥🔥

Watkins sounds fantastic in this recording but does hit as hard as it looks like he’s hitting? Wow.
Amazing with what the dB level must be (kinda loud) that there doesn't appear to be any bass monitor, just a mic. How can they do that??
