Way back in 2014 I bought a D5300 two lens kit with a backpack, and a tripod. This is also when I learned about your RUclips channel, and bought stunning digital photography for my kindle. In 2017 I bought a D7200, flash guns, a Sigma 85mm art series lens. This hobby is getting expensive, but worth it. I have learned so much over the years from your book and videos. A few months ago I purchased a new D850. Photography is therapy, it has balance. In a left brain right brain kind of way. You two have been immeasurably helpful, turning a thing that could have been incredibly frustrating, into an immense joy. The depth of understanding you provide, for the myriad of technologies we hold in our hands, allows us to better appreciate the full value of these technical marvels. The main point of this post is to convey a heartfelt Thank You (to both of you). You both make the world a better place with your efforts. Helping countless people to be skilled story tellers. Stories that might only be composed in a viewfinder.

I just purchased a D850 and quickly discovered it is not a simple upgrade from my beloved D5200. This video had me saying "wow" out loud as you described some of the features I didn't know about! Thank you so much.

You’re fabulous. The D850 is my first attempt in dealing with adjustments and changeable lenses. I used to use a bridge camera!
I especially love your RUclips table of contents with time index. It was so helpful to easily go back and review a specific topic. You are so quick too which is very much appreciated for our busy lives. Thank you Tony. I’m learning lots from your tutorials.

Best overview of how to use that I have found. Tony makes it easy to understand and seems to hit all the key features. A lot of other writers just give a review or a sales pitch. This is the best video I’ve seen from Tony.

Headed to the Good News river in Alaska for the third time for a two week float trip. I've carried a D3 and D850 and always felt I didn't get as much out of the 850 as it was capable of giving. Your tutorial fixed that. I see a lot of things I was missing and now feel way better about handling it in some difficult and rugged environments. Thanks so much.

Tony, thank you for your time on this. As is always the case, some basic rehash for the experienced Nikon user, but I learned a LOT today watching this entire video. I know it takes a ton of effort to pull these together, I just want you to know that the content was super helpful. Now, off to shoot! Thanks again.

I previously had a Nikon D7200 and decided to take the plunge with the D850 I learnt such a lot watching this video and am most grateful. You don't talk down to people, you speak clearly and concisely. This is without being patronising or having the superior attitude that some professionals have and are reluctant to share any hints or tips. Why, we all have to learn! Thanks so much Tony, I really enjoyed your video. Now to look at which book to buy...

Wow, this was a huge amount of useable and pertinant info. Can't thank you enough. Love my D850, and this really helped to clarify some of the menu options. It's a little intimidating getting into that menu and this reduced my fear. Spot on and at a great pace.
As most D850 owners have noticed - the camera is heavy. Regarding tripods: my experience was the nice travel ones are not sturdy enough for the D850 w/ the additional weight of a zoom and substantial glass lens. Just a mention of caution.
Thank you again for you time putting this video together - and yes, I'm buying every book you got!

It is Feb, 2022. I just purchased a used D850 today. My first Nikon DSLR. I shoot with medium format Hasselblad, but wanted a Nikon DSLR to invest in some specialty lenses not available in Hasselblad. My thanks to you for a wonderful tutorial on the D850. It is certainly a lot more complex than the Hasselblad menu, and I would have been lucky to even be able to turn on the camera, let alone set it up. I will be referring back to your tutorial for quite a while, I'm sure. Your instructions are clear, and easy to understand.
    Thank you.

Be aware, he also makes generalized and incorrect statements eg. "don't bother with pc sync cord connection. You don't need it, It falls out."
Some lighting equipment, even somethings like led light panels REQUIRE PC cord connection.
AND some pc cords have screw-in fittings
another eg. "Program Mode is the default"
There is no default setting as such.

Tony, thanks SO much. Listened to every minute. I have had the D850 for a few weeks and have found it to be amazing. One thing that was confounding me (that you may not have noticed yet), was that in live view, my flash wouldn't trigger. I gave up after turning everything on and off and on again--checking batteries etc (you know the drill) .. So, I searched the internet and discovered that neither "on camera" or "remote" flash will work in live view if "silent mode" is turned on (I had turned it on while testing and had forgotten about it). I turned "silent mode" off and the flash worked perfectly. So, if anyone wants to use a flash in live view, make sure "silent mode" is turned off. I guess Nikon figured that if you are in silent mode, you are silent for a reason and wouldn't be using a flash.
Tony, you are the first to do a *real* tutorial. My deepest gratitude! Now, if only Lightroom would update to include this camera's NEF files! DNG conversion is so annoying.

Excellent tutorial, from a top class channel!
I got my D850D a couple of weeks ago. Great camera, breath taking images with the right lenses.
I do mostly 8K timelapses and I am extremely happy with it.
Only big, big downside compare to the mirrorless: unable to view anything in live view while shooting. This is one reason that would almost make me go for the Sony (of course, this apply because timelapses is what I do most, the majority of people with different workflows would not care). And if I shoot in silent mode, no way to see anything of what is happening during the whole process, sort of hit and pray

Thanks for a great tour Tony - great practical insights :) Even better reason why the Mup mode is redundant (and why we don't need remotes for most things any more): - exposure delay mode. Set this to 3 seconds and it automates the whole process: raises the mirror, waits 3 seconds, takes the shot (this is true on the D810/D800 as well). All those "manual focus" buttons are also almost redundant if you disable AF on the shutter (ie use the back button for AF). If you want manual focus, don't press the AF button :) (almost all NIkon lenses for years have had manual focus rings that work even in AF mode). The only time I have to switch the body to manual focus is when using an old mechanically driven AF lens in manual focus. My cameras are set to continuous AF almost all the time. ( you do lose the beep and the AF assist light but that's about it).

Awesome information, I just bought a new D-850 to replace my worn out D3s. Great info...a little fast for me to follow at times since I am age 82 on some settings. I will go back, and stop in those areas. Thanks very very much. Tom

Great video - thank you! You mentioned putting your name in on copyright, and I wanted to share a great tip someone shared with me. Take a picture of your business card and then “lock” that picture. That way if the camera gets lost, your contact info is there.

You can add multiple cameras in Snap Bridge. You just switch on the initial screen. I have both the D850 and D7500 on mine.
