Great vid, like all your others, your an inspiration & love your channel. I have a quick question, does the dimmer switch still dim the led’s? I still have regular bulbs in but considering led replacements because of 1 being out and having to get back there anyways! Thanks

That headlight switch is actually really neat the way it comes out. If you give the knob a slight pull there is a tiny hole underneath for a small screwdriver to release the knob. Once the knob is off, you take the knob and put it on upside down and turn it, and it’ll pull that spring loaded locking pawl in, and the whole switch comes out from the front. Basically the knob is a secret key/removal tool.

That light switch appears to be removed the se as my 99 f150, the process is: Step 1. Turn headlights on Step 2. pull knob towards you (fog position on such equipped trucks) Step 3. use micro screwdriver to pop knob off fascia Step 4. I'm going to have to do this as I have a bulb out between speedo and tach, also one 1⃣ a/C control, I'm assuming just pull the a/c control out with maybe 4 screws while I have the dash opened up
I did a partial bulb swap into a different make cluster. These were for the clock and adjacent readout. I noticed I can't dim the led bulbs nearly as much as the standard ones. I am Leary to do a full led swap because of this reason.
Do you have a clip on how to change the light bulbs in the instrument panel on a 2008 Lincoln Navigator? The light is too dim at the maximum setting. During the day time, if I get some sunlight on my eyes, I cannot see the readings.
Well, I finally got around to doing the LED replacements yesterday. Did the five 194 bulbs and the one 37 bulb, all in Blue. While I had the gauge panel loose I put the three power plugs back in, temp installed the headlight switch and turned it on to see if any of the bulbs needed their polarity reversed. About half were good and I easily switched the others. I could peek inside the panel and watch the bulbs light up. Here's the thing, while the middle of the gauge panel is now a nice bright blue it seems like the panel to the left and right is dark? I did the change in bright daylight so it's hard to tell. I'm going to check it again tonight and do a look-see. Any suggestions on why the left & right are dark and the middle is well illuminated?
I am not positive. I had the same issue when I tried to go the colored route. Maybe its how the light is routed inside the cluster. Not sure though. That's why I ended up just going back to white.
I have a 2000 Ford F-150. I am replacing the instrument cluster lights with blue T-5 LED bulbs. The T-5 LED bulbs are polarity. When I install a LED bulb in the high beam indicator, I only get the LED to light up when I pull back on the left side turn-signal stalk or lever. When I push the stalk forward toward the dash so that the high beams are on all of the time and also for the high beam indicator light bulb to stay on all the time, I get no LED light at all. When I reverse the LED bulb polarity, I get no high beam indicator light at all in either direction. Does your T-5 LED bulb for your high beam indicator light up in both directions, forward for full time high beam or reverse (towards you) just to flash oncoming cars to warn them of a cop up ahead or whatever? I'm thinking I may have to use an LED bulb that is non-polarity, works in both directions like the factory original bulbs. But I do not see for sell on Amazon or EBay to where you can buy only one LED T-5 bulb that is non-polarity. Let me know on your truck if your high beam indicator light works in both directions (forward and aft or reverse). Thank You!!
Probably not what you want to hear but to be honest I only changed out my illumination bulbs. Not any of the indicator bulbs. My recommendation would be to leave the indicator bulbs as halogens. Doesn't make much of a difference since they aren't on full time anyway. Ive now heard from a lot of people that have run into weird quirky issues from switching the indicator bulbs over to LEDs.
Living On Wheels white led’s from oreilys. Cool you replied, just dropped the tank in my f450 tonight bc of stuttering/“missing”. The black pickup was broken off so I’m going to clean it out and delete the in tank filter and run a line for the return further out. Fingers crossed it’s not injectors until I’m ready to upgrade.
@@travissmith4461 hmmm interesting. Tank pickup might've been the issue if you were down at about a quarter tank. I know the feeling. Ended up needing to do my injectors before I had planned too
Hey. I know it's been a couple of years since you have done this. But by chance could you let me know where the parking indicator is bolted up to. Mine broke so I'm trying to find out where it hooked up.
installed the blue LED bulbs and about 3 weeks later they are now flashing on and off. Have you experienced this and if not are there LED bulbs that will not flash. Maybe I just purchased some cheepo LEDs. Thanks love the vids!
I haven’t had an flashing problems with the ones I’ve used. The main set has been in over a year and that last bulb I showed in the video has done great since. I tried colored ones and wasn’t happy with how they worked with the green film. If you’re interested the LEDs I used are linked below.
Great video. I am down to one lite not burned out . So I need to replace all of them. How many of each will I need. Also I did not catch what the bulb number was for the center lite that you replaced. Thanks for the great video. I am now a follower
Thank you! I believe it was 5 #194 bulbs and 1 #37 bulb. I link the packs I got below. They have been working well for me so far. I would recommend not switching any of your indicator bulbs to LED. Those seem to give a slight glow picking up on radiant electricity from the illumination lights. 194: amzn.to/357WHN3 37: amzn.to/37hEbnF
One more question. What have you done with your head lites. There are so,many prices and choices on amazon. Makes it hard to choose. Thanks for the help
@@LivingOnWheels Do you mind explaining this further? Are you suggesting only replacing the 5 #194 (black) and the 1 Center (white) #37 with LED and replacing any others with normal incandescent bulbs? Thank you.
Justin Evans yup, that’s exactly what I meant. I heard from a couple guys now that replaced indicator bulbs with LEDs and they said that all of em give off a soft glow when the illumination lights are on. I cant say why for certain but my guess would be that they’re picking up on faint traces of electricity from the other lights.
Hey I see you still have the cup thrower style of cup holder. Have you updated to the new style yet? I'm driving a early 99 7.3 and I was stoked to get the more secure version. I have learned a lot from your experience thanks.
the 194 led's that you got were they white and just cam out green because of the tint?? the bulb that popped up on amazon (the 194) the only option is WHITE....
That is correct. I tried colors but because of the green tint they didn't turn out looking nice. Unless you strip the tint I'd recommend sticking with white LEDs
Well, it turns out that the easiest thing to do is to pull the dash and radio as a single unit. Then, once cables are disconnected, you can disengage the spring clips from the backside of the dash.
I never had an issue but I did here of some people who swapped the smaller bulbs having issues with them picking up on faint electric power and having a dim glow.
I drive a lot of back roads with the dash as low as possible and black tape over the high beam indicator. Volvo/Saab(?) years ago had a blackout switch that killed everything or would illuminate just the speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge. I'd love to have that. The replies below say these LEDs are dimmable. Good. Do you think the minimum light setting is about the same as the old bulbs? Thanks for the video. Good info. The dash is the same as in my Excursion. I may be goin' in!
I mean it's been quite a while since i've seen the stock halogen bulbs, but these things get pretty darn dim. I honestly never dim them past half way. Easy job, I say go for it! Just swap the illumination bulbs though, not the indicators
I just replaced them with the bulbs you suggested and the and when I turn the key the wait to start light doesn’t come on along with a number of other lights that usually come on when the key is turned but as soon as I turn the key off they’ll flash and shut off is it possible I put the LEDS in too far? Not sure I did put them in the same way they came out
I don’t to think there is any way to put them in too far. I only replaced my illumination bulbs but you’re not the first person to have weird issues replacing the indicator bulbs
I changed from bulbs to led's and my service engine light won't turn off. I did have injectors replaced after the bulb change out. Service said I need to put bulbs back in at least for the service engine soon indicator because the led doesn't have enough resistance and trips the light to come on. All the codes were cleared and they say the light will stil lcome on with a led in dash. Any ideas or have you experienced this?
I never swapped my indicator bulbs so I don’t have direct experience but there have been a large amount of people that have reported similar issues. The LEDs seem to require so little electricity that some of the indicators can pick up on radiant energy from the illumination bulbs. Unfortunately my best recommendation is to swap those back to halogen.
There is a better way to take out your headlight switch what you do is Turn headlamp switch knob to the headlamp ON position and pull the knob out. Insert a thin tool into the slot at the base of the knob to release it and pull the headlamp switch knob off. Position the knob and with the bottom end toward the headlamp ON position and push on shaft. Turn the knob counterclockwise until the back of the knob is in the OFF position. Turn the headlamp switch knob clockwise fully, remove the headlamp switch from the instrument panel and disconnect the electrical connectors. I think I explained it correctly. But by removing the knob and reversing it and then putting it back on the shaft and turning it, it pulls in the spring clips that hold it in place and lets you just pull it out. Its like a 15 second task. Follow removal procedure in reverse order when installing the original switch.
Interesting.... I’ve never heard of that method. I’ll have to give it a try. My switch does not pull out at all because I don’t have fog lights. Do you think this is specific for fog light equipped trucks?
A few pointers to add, After changing my illumination and idiot lights Some of the holes in the back of the cluster come from the factory empty, If you are uncertain which ones are blank they will have no scratches on the silver tracing under the bulb holder. Secondly most led bulbs are made by the chicoms so If you reverse polarity and it still does not work you likely have a bad bulb always get more than you need. Thirdly not all of the indicator lights come on in the accessory position some only light up when cranking, Anything else can be checked by opening the door, turning on the flashers, etc. EDIT My indicator lights are now glowing faintly all the time this can only be seen when it is dark, also the turn signals and high beam indicator are to bright for night driving I really like the brightness of led but they are not dimmable I will be going back to halogen.
? On the 37's do they have a housing like the 194 they came with the black socket the 37 didnt so you can pull out the 37 and insert a new bulb in the bulb socket
I did this a loooong time ago but I do believe the 37s can just be replaced in the socket. That being said I’ve had quite a few on here say when they replaced their indicator bulbs they got a little bit of trace electrical pickup from the illumination bulbs. I’m guessing because LEDs are so sensitive. So my recommendation is to only swap the illumination bulbs to led.
Got the light switch, if you turn your lights on under the edge of the switch is a hole small screwdriver insert the know pops off then turn it 180 in that retracts the little ears that hold it in then unplug plugs. It's also easier to remove the shifter indicator fron under steering wheel so you don't break tabs.
I just realized that I threw away those wire spring thingies that come with an aftermarket radio. Now I have no way of removing the radio prior to removing the dash panel? What is a workaround or substitute tool that I can use to remove the radio? Bend some paper clips?
Have you tried putting in PURPLE leds? Since Purple is a combination of Red and Blue. All you need is Green (hence the green film) to get white. Have you tried that?
Thanks for all your videos. I have been watching them all to learn about my new to me 1999 F350 diesel. I am in the process of the bulb swap to led's and I can for the life of me tell which bulb goes in which direction. I actually thought i was pretty smart by making a felt pen mark on one side of the small bulb holders, so that when installed, they'd go back the way the came out. Turns out, that even some of those had to be turned 180 (like you said, here somewhere). Still, though, I can't tell if my 'sensor' lights are correctly positioned. for example, my low fuel light. I won't know if it's right until I run low on fuel and if it's wrong, yank it all apart. Is there an easier way to know if they are correctly installed?
The bulb holders themselves are non directional. It’s the LEDs the need to be a certain way. So you can either switch the holder or the bulb in the holder. I didn’t actually switch out any of the indicator bulbs. Can’t remember which lights turn on when you cycle the key. I know most of them do.
Nice work looks really good I see you did this video a while back just wondering which lights they really are they bright white I just don't want to order the wrong one since there are so many different 194 number 37 any help would be appreciated thank you

@@LivingOnWheels Absolutely. I've done a 2009 and this is quite different. Thanks again.
Glad to hear it man!
Real helpful video. Thank you.
Glad to hear it!
Your videos are awesome and very informative! Just subscribed because I’m looking at doing some of these upgrades on mine. Thanks for the excellent videos!
Thank you! Good to have you following along!
Thanks buddy really helped me out. Wanted this for so long. Thanks again
Great stuff, helped me out!
Glad to hear it!
Seems pretty straight forward. Might do the woman’s truck this weekend since 70% of her dash lights are out
Not a bad job at all and makes a big difference 👍🏻
Excellent video
Thank you
Nice work sir!
I have the 2001 F250 4x4, how many of each bulb do I need for my dash?
Thanks for the great videos!
You are awesome dude! Go boys go!
A question. Can I find a stiffer spring at local auto parts stores to increase my fuel pressure?
Hello good sir I highly appreciate the work you have provided do you have pictures of the red and blues ?
Walker Stutts no unfortunately I do not but I will day that they did not work well. Very uneven and dim
Do you have a clip on how to change the light bulbs in the instrument panel on a 2008 Lincoln Navigator? The light is too dim at the maximum setting. During the day time, if I get some sunlight on my eyes, I cannot see the readings.
Have you done the climate control cluster led light replacement? If so what bulbs does it take? Thanks! Awesome stuff!
I have not. Not sure which type there take.
I would like to have the list of the led bulbs. Sorry I don’t find them . Thanks
Love the video!! Once replaced with LEDs does the dimmer still work?
I forgot to check that single bulb that I put in but the other 5 black illumination bulbs all work flawlessly with the dimmer.
Thanks very helpful!
Hopefully you have better luck than I did my lights started flickering about a month after installing
Hopefully. All the LEDs in the block illumination slots have been going great for over a year now. We will see about the new one.
I did this to my f150 loved it been meaning to do it to the 7.3
Makes such a big difference!
On my f150 they turned blue *sigh
@@travissmith4461 with blue lights or white?
This might be a dumb question... Does your instrument cluster still dim with the dimmer switch using the LED bulbs? No flashing or flickering?
Joshua R. All works as normal 👍🏻
So what was the total number of bulbs needed of each?
Ok. Got it figured out. Only replace the “illumination” bulbs. Those are the 5 black 194s and the one white 37 bulb. So replace 6 bulbs in total.
Yessir. I don’t remember how many for sure but that sounds right.
installed the blue LED bulbs and about 3 weeks later they are now flashing on and off.
Thank you. I will just order the ones you have and be done with it.
Awesome! Hopefully they work just as well for you as they did for me
Sweet job! I've been putting of doing this for to long. Couple bulbs out and it really bugs a guy!
I know the feeling haha. It’s definitely not a bad job to do
Nice ride BTW man I need to do that to mine for sure Looks like a newer model
Makes a big difference. Definitely feels newer
194: amzn.to/357WHN3
37: amzn.to/37hEbnF
One more question. What have you done with your head lites. There are so,many prices and choices on amazon. Makes it hard to choose. Thanks for the help
I just bought a regular 06-07 Harley Davidson style set and retrofitted them with projector headlight assemblies. So I custom built mine.
Great video, thank you.
Big help!!! Thank you so much for ur help.
Hey I see you still have the cup thrower style of cup holder. Have you updated to the new style yet? I'm driving a early 99 7.3 and I was stoked to get the more secure version. I have learned a lot from your experience thanks.
I have an 08-10 center console that I use for cup holders.
Good info, thanks. Could’ve trimmed the fat to a 10 minute video but it’s cool.
With the 7.3k views 👍 cheers great video
Do you have a compete list of bulbs you used? I'd like to do this with mine. 2001 bulbs are starting to go LOL. Great video though. 👍
the 194 led's that you got were they white and just cam out green because of the tint?? the bulb that popped up on amazon (the 194) the only option is WHITE....
Good to know! That factory radio can definitely be a pain!
@livingonwheels how many bulbs does it take for the cluster/gauges?
When you upgraded your cluster lights did you have a issue with a few of your 37 bulbs coming on when you turn the truck on
I never had an issue but I did here of some people who swapped the smaller bulbs having issues with them picking up on faint electric power and having a dim glow.
Love this man! Thank you!
How do you make the” mpg / temp gauge where your sunglasses above our head go more bright I can’t see mine on my 7.3 2002.?
Unfortunately I am not sure one that one.
well done on vid, this is a game changer..
I appreciate it. Figured somebody should finally get a good video on it.
Do they dim smoothly?
Yup. They worked perfectly
@@LivingOnWheels Thank you! Great video, too!
Great video.......How many #37 does it take?
Also having a time getting my dimmer and light switch disconnected don't want to break lol will do tomorrow Joe really thanks for all your help
Knob.
Has anyone tried green leds to increase the color saturation? Did it turn the needles an odd color?
I just realized that I threw away those wire spring thingies that come with an aftermarket radio. Now I have no way of removing the radio prior to removing the dash panel? What is a workaround or substitute tool that I can use to remove the radio? Bend some paper clips?
Sometimes you can get clothes hangers to work but its not easy. You should be able to pick up some at a walmart or car toys.
Have you tried putting in PURPLE leds? Since Purple is a combination of Red and Blue. All you need is Green (hence the green film) to get white. Have you tried that?
ever5ince_98 i have not tried purple. I dong imagine it’d work but maybe
Nice work looks really good I see you did this video a while back just wondering which lights they really are they bright white I just don't want to order the wrong one since there are so many different 194 number 37 any help would be appreciated thank you
I have the exact ones I used linked in the video description if you want to order them. They have worked flawlessly for me
