I've watched many reactions to this song and seen great reactions but I've never come across anyone commenting on how remarkable it was that a young man in his twenties could be writing songs with such empathy about the trials of teenage girls growing up in this world. Remarkable.
So true! It's like he has the ability to view things from other perspectives that most can't... or choose to ignore! Yet another thing that makes him special!
This is one of those songs that deserves more attention. It used to be mainly girls who went through this at a high level, but these days it’s everyone. I appreciate you understanding the need to shelter kids from the internet for as long as we can. 💜
I see this song as a way to start a conversation with your daughters/sons. Sometimes kids can't hear it from their parents but from a stranger it gets through. This is a beautiful, thoughtful song and although Ren has spent time in the dark, and might think he is there again, he shines.
New UK subscriber here. I love the way Ren gets people thinking & talking with his music. His lyrics are next level - covering subjects most mainstream artists won't touch.
The reason I subbed to you was exactly what you just mentioned. You are real, you have the experience life taught us and you don't beat around the bush. Thank you for being you.
Yep, I was 6' tall in 8th grade. I was a towering, tall target during my grade school years. "How's the weather up there?" "You should play basketball." “Hey, bean pole." These all seem innocent enough, but they just got old, and you realize people just don't know any better. The only time my height feels right is when that sweet little person at the grocery store asks if I can help them get stuff off of the top shelf. “ Hell yeah, I can do that for you.” Once I got older, I "came to grips with my tallness" and used it to make people laugh. Then one day, a friend of mine told me, "You know they are laughing at you, not with you." And I said to that, " I know, but at least they are laughing." If I'm making your day with a little laughter at my expense, it's all worth it. Wow, this was way longer than what was in my head.
I don't mean any disrespect but, every guy under 6 foot wishes they were... I'm not saying you weren't bullied but, they probably bullied you because they were jealous, not because they thought less of you - there's a difference. I'm 5' 10" but I wish I was taller. Damn near every male I knew growing up wished they were taller. No guy wishes they were 5' 6" or shorter - unless they already are. It kind of seems like a lame complaint... "I got bullied for being bigger than everyone, who all went on to wishing they too were bigger."
😆 My rambling is always longer than I mean it to be. But I loved that you shared that! It was the opposite for me of course, "Are you technically a midget?"... " How do you even walk on those tiny feet?" (I was a gymnast and sprinter thank you very much 😄) "I bet you don't even USE the top shelf!" Har Har Har. But I just laugh, because hey, I AM short. What are you gonna do about it? And thank you on behalf of all us shorties, for getting that stuff we can't reach! 🙌
I was around 6' tall in 7-8th grade as well. I got bullied quite a bit, but I never knew if it was because of how tall I was. Actually, me and a girl in my class were about the same height. I was also very skinny, which didn't help, I guess. Now I'm the opposite of skinny, though. One of my bullies was a girl in my class, she was one of the "cool" kids. She made fun of my eyes, I was the opposite of cross eyed, can't think of the word right now. It took a toll on my self esteem, and made me a bit shy around women, and I didn't, and still don't like to make eye contact. Inside Out 2 is an animated movie about anxiety, not feeling good enough, and feeling like you have to measure up. It's relatable, at least for me. I can recommend it, and the first one as well. As for Ren, we might look at him, and see a person with good looks, and with a lot of talent, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's how he sees himself, sadly. Well, I hope he does now, because he's a good looking, talented guy, who, most importantly, seem to be nice, with a lot of empathy. When you get bullied, there's a big risk that it will get to you, and that it will leave scars on your soul, that take time to heal, if they ever do. Even now, as an adult, my scars are still there, if a bit faded, even though I now know that the bullies were the real losers.
Asa mother of two daughters this one always hits hard... I always think about my older daughter, she is only 11 years old, who started puberty very early. Everyone in her class still looked like children and she was turning into a little woman. She often heard bad comments about her how she look. It was a very difficult time for us, now it's better but I still have to remind her that she is beautiful and good enough. Always appreciate you ❤
It's harder for girls in that regard for sure! I went to school with a few girls who "blossomed" early and they were called sluts. Because they had breasts?! Once again, bullied for things they had NO control over. 😔
This commentary, both from Ren's incredibly insightful number and your reaction rings so true to me. Not as someone who has suffered in the way that some do, but from the perspective of someone who has worked intensively with young people with eating disorders. And you are so right when you say that they see themselves as 'fat' or 'ugly' or whatever the most destructive adjective is that the seductive voice on their shoulder is telling them that they are. And that voice feeds on insecurity and is emboldened by the falsehoods that our youngsters are bombarded with pretty much every waking hour. And they genuinely can't see themselves as the beautiful , smart, fantastic people with SO much potential, that they are. They can't see themselves through the eyes of the people that love and care for them -, and so many fall.... like Dominoes And it is heartbreaking! Thank you for this xx
You ladies have always been told, social media has just put it on steroids, have always hated the old ways of telling you & the new ways are more insidious, luv your reactions
Old UK Guy here. Ren cuts to the heart. Keep Reacting! You may have heard of The Six Secrets of Happiness. Here are my six. You do not have to have or do all of these to be happy, but they could help.: 1. Take exercise. What the exercise is, is up to you. Swimming? Walking? Gardening? Whatever suits. The important thing is that you raise your heart-rate, move your limbs, and get a bit sweaty or out of breath. If you are able to take your exercise out of doors so much the better, as you get sunshine and fresh air too. In spiritual terms, your life, and your health are gifts from God, and should be both enjoyed and properly maintained, through food and drink, exercise and rest. If you do not get enough sleep, you certainly will not be happy. 2. Accomplish reasonable challenges. This means doing things that are challenging, but that you have a realistic expectation of achieving. Again what you do is up to you, it can be a physical challenge like doing a charity walk, or a mental one like solving a crossword, or something that takes you out of your comfort zone. 3. *Be satisfied with what you have.* If you want something that you do not have, you will be unhappy. Getting it will make you happy for a short while, but there is always something newer and better to yearn after. In biblical terms “lead us not into temptation” 4. Be in a mutual loving relationship. See 3. Above. The important thing here is mutual. It is not enough to have a crush on someone. 5. Practice generosity. Happiness is not about having, but it can be about sharing what you do have. 6. Have an active belief system. The important word here is active. It is not enough to “believe” in something, whether God, Chess or Motorcycling. The requirement here is to contribute, time and effort to advance what you believe in. You can see it if you like, as the call to join the Workers. I said six, but here is a seventh which will help with all the others. 7. Whatever you do, do it whole heartedly.
So great you reacted to this one, IMO one of his underrated/too little known songs - like Precious (with the Big Push - yes, I know you reacted to it 🙂🙂). Such wise words. And so relatable when you talked about your own ´struggles´ getting older - but acceptance is the way indeed. All the best for you and your family from Belgium
I like the way you think about getting older and dying everybody has to go through it I tell people when they get to complaining too much I said don't worry about anything don't be so down life's not permanent we are all going to die be happy while you can
This is one of the first songs I heard from Ren. It was heartbreaking to hear he had to go back for more treatment. Great reaction and commentary 😊 Love and prayers for Ren ❤
You are still beautiful. The superficial (outer layer) is only part of a person's beauty. Inner beauty is much more powerful. Being a kind human being that tries to do good makes inner beauty shine and you are shiney! much love ♥!
Loved this video! This is one of what I call Ren's "hidden gems", songs that for whatever reason, get overlooked by a lot of reactors. So glad you found it! (If you haven't already, check out "Hold On", it's another hidden gem!)
I'm in my 60s but when I was a kid I was very skinny and weak n got picked on so I started lifting, body building, and gradually I started getting bigger n stronger but no matter how much bigger I got n people remarked on it every time I looked in the mirror I still saw this skinny guy,and I got obsessed with getting bigger,I started taking steroids n it totally took me over. Fortunately beaucause of a wonderful girl that I met I slowly started rowing back on it n lost the obsession. I still train but to a sensible level. When you're young it's very easy to fall into habits that can do you harm, chasing an always out of reach dream. The social pressures on youngsters nowadays is crazy. I fear for them. Great empathetic and sensible reaction as always. Hope your dad's doing OK. Would love to see you react to Dear God by Ren . Peace n love from the UK.
Yes, very good point. When the prefrontal cortex isn't even developed, children are so impressionable... and can fall into that cycle. I was always short, but I was an athlete, sprinter and gymnast. So people usually just called me "speedy Gonzalez" (remember him?) so I used my lack of height to my advantage, and doing flips for people was my "party trick". There are a lot of kids (I went to school with a couple who were super tall and skinny) who might not have a "talent" and so people focus on their image/body type etc... instead of getting to know them. One of my best friends was soooo skinny and about a foot taller than I was. But her dad was exactly the same. She was a wonderful human and we had a blast together. Two totally opposite body types, who couldn't have cared less what the other one looked like. We just knew we loved each other and liked the same things. And thanks for the suggestion...I haven't heard Dear God yet!
and it's not just kids and media causing the issues. It's also ignorance of adults. My family is tall and thin but it's extremely pronounced in childhood. My mom especially was always told by adults she was too thin was massively careful never to use those words to me but I heard it from SO many adults - you need some meat on those bones, you're so thin you need to eat (believe me I ate a ton and was very active). It gave me body image issues until I finally got them under control in my late 30s. My daughter has the same build and she's still in primary school but I've already talked to her about it. In a couple years this song is going on her spotify playlist - she's already a Ren fan :)
Great react! Really appreciate your insight! This is such an important message and I think this is one of those songs that need to be shouted from the rooftops. When I grew up I was bullied and picked on and I like you diddnt grow up with the internet. It feels like kids today don’t stand a chance, they don’t need bullies to feel bad about themselves the internet is an endless sea of insecurity and hate.
And the kids bully their peers from social media. I'm going to bully you on (IG, You Tube, tik tok, twitter) and then get everyone to comment and share. Then it's wait until you see each other in the halls and everyone that saw the posts start mouthing off...little fck brats. Usually these parents never spanked and were just their kids buddy and not a parent. The other end was the bully kid got bullied/beat by parents or older siblings. 😢
So you say hello to everyone except me at the beginning "Hello beautiful people" 😂... Yeah, I do know exactly what Ren sings about, growing up with almost no nose bone. I lay wrong as a fetus so my nose didn't grow correctly. Add to that, I'm also autistic with an IQ above 150... Guess if I got bullied. I had suicide thoughts at the age of 7. By a miracle I was really good at sports so I found a group of people that didn't care how I looked, as long as I was the best in the team they didn't care. I use to say that the only people more evil than kids are the adults that let bullies be bullies. My childhood was so difficult that at the age of 21 I removed my childhood from my memory. I only have a few "pictures" left, but no real memory with emotions.Btw, I get disgusted by people that look unnatural due to plastic surgery and I like people that look as old as they are. I think the human body is beautiful and as a man I prefer women without makeup.
All people are beautiful in their own way 😊 I'm so sorry you went through that. You have a very unique perspective, being that you have such a high IQ. I'm the same as you...I used to think "do what makes you feel good about yourself"... but now, when I see people who get plastic surgery on order to "feel better" about themselves...I can't take them seriously. You will never find happiness that way... and will always want more. All I see in them is vapid, selfish and unhappy people.
@MrsRealistic I did a surgery at 19 years old that fixed my jaw as I have had a headache since birth and was offered the chance to get plastic surgery for my nose. I declined as my nose was me. I prefer people with an "ugly" outside than an ugly inside.
That's sure a good point! I've met some REALLY ugly "beautiful people". And if it's you in your avatar picture, I see nothing wrong with your nose. By the way, I've always hated mine. 🤪
@@MrsRealistic Yes that is me, and no it's nothing wrong now. Just looks like I have been boxing. As a child I had the 4 teeth behind the corner teeths removed and had bracers for 6 ½ years that pushed all front teeth back and my yaw surgery that moved my jay about an inch/2.5cm forward. That was mainly done because I had headache and other pains since birth. My first pain free day was after the jaw surgery at 19 years old. Do I even need to say that my threshold for pain is exceptionally high after 19 years in constant pain... There is nothing bad that don't bring anything good as my grandma said. At the age of 21 I was close to not managing my childhood memories any more, so I completely removed all memories from my head, with almost nothing left after. But yeah, I have a lot in common with Ren, like the way to find light in the darkness. Still alive at age 52. Way longer than I thought I would manage. Like Ren I share my pain with others, I write books (in Swedish so far) and do lectures about autism, so that other (autistic) people can have an easier life. That way the pain bring good along and brings a meaning to it. Same way it is for Ren. It's the only way we can fight the darkness.
Beauty truly does come from within. Hopefully people learn this as they mature. And with all due respect and chivalry, you're doing just fine. You're by far my favorite reactor. I never even knew reaction videos were a thing until Ren popped up on wall a year or so ago. I still owe you. I may have to get through winter first but I promise I won't forget. Take care.
You're very kind, thank you 🫣 We are always our worst critics aren't we? Unfortunately there will always be bullies and people who suck... but Ren is making waves that will resonate forever.
@MrsRealistic I could type for days but I'll just say I agree. I truly do. Your commentary on things always resonates with me. I give you my word that I'll catch up with ya. Until then, I really enjoy your channel. Take care.
❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹 ... You are going to get lots of comments here that say you are beautiful Mrs. Realistic. Let's face it , not everyone is going to think we are beautiful. I am a 58 year old man , and I don't look anything like my pictures from high school. Ren has an amazing skill to say things with multiple rhymes that most of us can't say at all. I do not know much about your life , but I am quite certain that your husband thinks that you are beautiful. This is another great song from Ren. He forces us to ask ourselves some questions, sometimes some tough questions. He is a flag waver for unity and self belief. I admire him so much for that. He is most definitely one of the best new artists making music today. Okay .... now I am going to tell you what I think about you. When I first followed one of your reactions, which I think was a Pentatonix song, within the first few seconds my inner voice said ," well , she is quite beautiful." I really like your straight hair , and then I also noticed you wear a tattoo. I like that also. But , those are not the reasons that I have returned so many times to your channel. I have returned because you are honest. You are honest in your reactions and you are honest about your life and your children. I like your take on music. I like that you weep , when you feel like weeping. I am worried about the youth in our culture also. Maybe ... Just maybe more songs like "Dominos" become popular and start to help them. 🎼🍁🍁🍇🍁🍁🎼
My son has the most gorgeous red hair, and he gets bullied HARD for it. It BREAKS MY HEART. The only thing I can do is build him up and remind him how special he is for having that as true "gingers" are a minority... but it destroys my heart that kids are so mean.
I hug my kids... my youngest (who turns 10 TODAY!) always knows how to make me smile. He'll say, "I love you mama, I think you're beautiful and the best mama in the world," That's what really matters, that my kids are happy.
Great reaction . Have you heard of Sofia Isella. Ren recommended her saying he wants to be her when he grows up. I think you'll really like her. Try Everybody Supports Women. 😊
Thank God there was no internet!
There would have been way too much black mail on me as well 😆
This is one of those songs that deserves more attention. It used to be mainly girls who went through this at a high level, but these days it’s everyone.
I appreciate you understanding the need to shelter kids from the internet for as long as we can. 💜
Yes, I think if it can turn adults into zombies, imagine how messed up a child can be from it! Let them be kids for a long as they can!
I see this song as a way to start a conversation with your daughters/sons. Sometimes kids can't hear it from their parents but from a stranger it gets through. This is a beautiful, thoughtful song and although Ren has spent time in the dark, and might think he is there again, he shines.
Very true... communicating with your kids is very important!
Ren always has a way of putting out lyrics that can touch so many peoples souls. He has the wisdom of a thousand lifetimes. Hes so special 🥹💜
I agree 100% 👍
New UK subscriber here. I love the way Ren gets people thinking & talking with his music. His lyrics are next level - covering subjects most mainstream artists won't touch.
This song should be part of the curriculum in schools! It's such an important song for young teenage girls!

You're very kind, thank you! 😊
Ren's music and social commentary topics really need to be part of the school curriculum - the world would be a better place if that happened.
What a world it would be if that were the case! 🙌

I'm sure you've seen it far too much in your work. It's heartbreaking.
Ren has so much music it's not that you've missed it you just haven't gotten to it yet.
Yes, you're right. It's tough as a reactor because I want to just go listen to everything... but I have to wait so I can react to it with all of you!
You ladies have always been told, social media has just put it on steroids, have always hated the old ways of telling you & the new ways are more insidious, luv your reactions

I LOVE your list... and I have to agree... those are all important things for happiness. Thank you for sharing that! 😊🙏
You released this right after I watched a reaction to Diazepam, they both hit hard.
That's such a good one! One of my favorites! Who am I kidding...I can't pick a favorite! 😆
Thanks so much! 😁

Amen to that my friend! I don't have to like getting older... but there isn't anything we can do to stop it... so enjoy life!
This is one of the first songs I heard from Ren. It was heartbreaking to hear he had to go back for more treatment. Great reaction and commentary 😊

@MrsRealistic Simone Biles is tiny but is probably the best and most graceful gymnast there's ever been.
Great reaction. Always watch your vids and listen to what you have to say. Peace. P.S. You are lovely.

It gave me body image issues until I finally got them under control in my late 30s. My daughter has the same build and she's still in primary school but I've already talked to her about it. In a couple years this song is going on her spotify playlist - she's already a Ren fan :)
Very good point! Adults need to watch their language especially around impressionable children.
After going through this selection, hearing this song made my 63 year old body weep.
He has a way of doing that to you, hey?
yay more Ren
Thank you for the thoughtful reaction, its a beautiful if sad song.
FWIW, I like everthing about how you look, and sound.
You're very kind, thank you! We're all our own worst critics I suppose!
Spot on! At least with bullies you could tell them off, or get in a fight and "settle things"... but now it's just forced on us!
@ I do not envy today’s youth. So sad that they are so vulnerable and so exposed.
I agree... I'm glad I grew up in the 80's and 90's!
You're right Kelly... this is a different time...a lot of it isn't better.
Take care.
Thank you! 😁
Quality Tune. Quality Reaction. 🙂
Thanks! 😊

I don't look much like I did in high school either 😆 But you're so kind with your comment, thank you. We are all our own worst critics aren't we?
We age or we die. Those are the only 2 options. Resistance is futile.
Amen to that! 🙌
My son has the most gorgeous red hair, and he gets bullied HARD for it. It BREAKS MY HEART. The only thing I can do is build him up and remind him how special he is for having that as true "gingers" are a minority... but it destroys my heart that kids are so mean.
Kids can be awful. All we can do is raise our children to be kind, and celebrate our differences!
You are my favorite! Thank you mate.
You're very kind... thank you 😊
Best wishes to Ren and you. This is George from a small greek island. Can i suggest one more?
Of course!! Ren is one of my all time favorite artists!!

I ķnow how I go about it ii cuddle into my quilt it's a hard life but someone has got to live it
I hug my kids... my youngest (who turns 10 TODAY!) always knows how to make me smile.
Intriguing!! Thank you! 😁
