me too, it slays me, I cant get through it without ballin, and I am not afraid to admit it. It's powerful stuff how can one man with an Acoustic guitar make music that feels like it could crush Demons. Its a Masterpiece, and I think it has something that everyone could relate to, whether people believe in spiritual side of things or not, I think he beautifully sums up the human condition. Also of course mental health, but not in the usual sterile cold, well meaning but miss understanding way. Its from a direct experience, some people can relate to that very every day but none less challenging reality. But even a relatively mental healthy person has doubts and gnawng internal dialogs, so even they can relate.
This is all a long way of me saying it's genius

I haven't stopped clicking since and I went and dived deeper into his catalogue and continue to be awed, amazed and impressed. I needed this in my life. And add to everything that this is being performed & shot LIVE! Loved your reaction! I suggest you keep going with him. The Tale of Jenny & Screech (FULL VERSION) is another masterpiece of storytelling that will blow your mind. He can sign so beautifully too - Chalk Outlines, How To Be Me, Crutch. And he can rap, like rap rap - Hunger, What You Want. Then he has songs about real world issues - Money Game & Money Game 2. It just goes on & on. Hopefully you will enjoy discovering his music as much as I have.

Hello and welcome to the RENiverse, Half and Jai.
Let me introduce you to... Ren Gill, he is a 34 year old Welsh native (Wales from the United Kingdom, specifically from the Island of Anglesey off the northwestern coast of Wales) and currently resides in Brighton, England (a southern English Channel beach town with an insanely active busking [live street performing] scene). He has been performing since he was 12 years old.
He is entirely self-trained. He speaks native Welsh, English, French, and I do believe a bit of Italian, IIRC? He is exceptional at the guitar, piano, and vocalisation. He is a totally independent artist who has no record label to represent him or, more importantly, control him. He is a rapper, a multi-instrumentalist, a producer, a singer-songwriter, a composer, and truly the definition of genre-less. He can do any genre, produce any sound or beat, and he can do it all for nothing. No song is like another, no beat is the same, no way to judge anything based on what each song is. Again, it must be repeated: he is SELF-trained and has never had formal training for his music or productions.
Everything Ren does is intentional. Every aspect of every piece is thoroughly scrutinized, studied, considered, composed, and dismantled before anything comes out and that perfection comes through during recording or filming. He is a Master of live one takes and his team is one of the best in the world, despite how small, even tiny or non-existent, his budgets are.
Almost all the money he makes either goes to his ongoing Lyme Disease treatments (of which his medications cost literally thousands of quids/dollars) or to the projects he has in mind.
I will state that Ren is not religious. He is spiritually agnostic, though does come from a Catholic background. He considers religion important to at least acknowledge and utilise as part of his imagery because of its representation within humanity.
At the age of 19, he contracted Lyme Disease from a tick bite he received while on a trip with his friends. He was misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led to severe psychosis, for several years until he was properly diagnosed by a Swiss physician. Due to not receiving the appropriate treatment for Lyme Disease within the very short time frame after contraction, the disease has ravaged his body and mind, causing permanent brain damage, severe issues with digestion, sleep, nerves, and various other health problems. It caused him horrendous, chronic, violent pain to the point of being bedridden for years. Music is the reason he has survived.
He had originally signed to Sony Records prior to contracting the disease, then when his condition became severe, he lapsed in his ability to complete his contract and Sony dropped him like a ton of bricks. He has been independent ever since.
I'd like to provide some cultural context for this artist from another extremely talented artist:
This is what the Irish folk rock artist Sinead O’Connor posted on social media after watching Hi Ren: “Holy motherfuckin SHIT! Someone just showed me this at the weekend. This Archangel from like, twelfth heaven or somewhere, has only gone and made the entire history of songwriting and performing look like a three year old's birthday party at Burger King.
Every song and or artist in history even Willie Dixon, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, NWA, Ice Cube, and even Bob Dylan, is officially relegated to class B. As are every actor in history or legend: living or dead, male or female. We all are now defunct." Posted on May 17th, 2023, 2 months before self-deletion in July 2023.
I recommend watching Sick Boi, Troubles, and the 'Chapters' from his RenMakesStuff (BTS channel for Ren) for a much deeper comprehension of his journey.
Hi Ren was recorded live in the basement of an apartment building in Brighton, England. It was literally a crew of five people, cost 50 quid (~$62) to make, and the audio is entirely one take. The video is spliced across four one takes. It is recorded live with a lavalier lapel microphone, a portable guitar amp and recording device, three cameras, and Ren's laptop. He rehearsed this piece literally thousands of times before he even recorded the music video to provide certainty that he would get the guitar notes perfectly and his delivery as perfect as possible.
This piece is a very personal one for Ren and was the first time in his musicianship to properly acknowledge his ailment, his journey, and his issues musically. He has hinted at it in all of his previous works prior to it, but this was the first time it was out in the open, purposefully.
The 'Pig' from the beginning is an essential symbol in the RENiverse and appears in many, if not most, of his other music videos and media. It represents the corrupted and abused systems of the world that take and take and take and never give back to the people they are supposed to support: medicine, music, finances, trade, commerce, government, etc…
There are actually four characters in this piece: the yodeller at the beginning and end (representing a call to aspirations), self (the calm and soft one on the 'right'), doubt (the 'evil' one on the 'left'), and hope (the one in the 'centre' near the end of the piece).
The written poetry at the end of the piece is a very simplified summary of his real journey and represents his most primary belief system.
Hi Ren is a continuation of Sick Boi, which is recorded live (though not a one take) in the same basement a few weeks prior to Hi Ren. It was also produced for practically no money and it represents his feelings on commoditization, greed, the healthcare industry, and the music industry in a generalised yet very specific manner.
Hi Ren has received multiple nominations or wins for awards, has over 40 million views, and he has several million followers worldwide. He has other videos and songs with multiple awards, especially Money Game Part 3 of the Money Game trilogy, which has won several dozen awards.
There is life before Ren and then there is life after Ren. Welcome to your life after Ren.
Have fun! Welcome to the RENegades and the RENiverse. Much peace and love to you. ^^

I remember as a young teen, calling my mom to my room because I had felt that God was calling me to become a counselor. My mom said, if that’s true, u will not have an easy path. The devil will throw everything your way - she was right.
I spent my teen years judging people for their sins. As an adult, I suffered the consequences for those judgements. I had to walk in the shoes of everyone I ever judged. Idk why, but the speaking part at the end reminds me of this. Him having the boldness to want to defeat evil - he had to walk through a lot of storms to get where he is today.

Great reaction, as usual. "Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar over the past month; it went viral and has garnered more than 3.5 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than 10 years. Ren's songs are generally recorded live. His latest release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." I am 57 y/o, and I only recently learned about Ren and have gone down this rabbit hole ever since. Many of his songs resonate with me because he addresses struggles that I myself face every day.
A little background on Ren that I gathered from the internet. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue. His illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours a day. Ren was initially diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It would take seven years before he was finally correctly diagnosed with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting brain damage. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. He is currently in Canada for more treatments.
He plays multiple instruments, has amazing vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. Check out the trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet." It is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion; WATCH THEM IN THE STATED ORDER, as this is the flow of the storyline or just watch “The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full),” which includes “Violet’s Tale at the end. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling.
Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. I would watch the official live music videos. "Chalk Outlines" is one of my favorite songs right now. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation.
His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up) are awesome and well worth checking out, both the busking (street performances) and their live recordings. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Oh My Woman," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," and so many others are equally impressive and really give you a sample of his vocal ability.
Ren just released his latest single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next 3-6 months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren."

I have been following Ren for at least a handful of years. If not seven or eight years this guy has been in music since his early teens and creating amazing music you can find him when younger goin famous with a band I believe, called “trick fox”, where he has awesome kinda pop rock songs but, still so good to listen to and such awesome music, an other band the big push, and many other setups with him, such as him and Sam Thompson.
What I found to love more than just great music is the heart and soul out into his music, his troubles put into music, because people think you can’t lose your mind if you’ve lost it in the beginning of life, and then circumstances happen, things change, and you find out you’re as human everybody else, and you can lose your mind, you can be in more pain than your brain to handle at the time, and I’ve been listening to his music those many years ago, and this guy has had his own issues and I really related to him and his music.
He’s amazing, a lyrical, genius. I can’t wait to see you guys this reaction.

Ren, a busker from Brighton UK, is multi talented and to see the many sides of his music I would suggest the following
    Jenny, Screech and Violets trilogy
Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla (live version)
    Genesis (acoustic version)
    Power
    Sick Boi
Blind Eyed with Sam Tompkins (either the live, busking version or the one with the angry car park attendant)
    French Song with Romain Axisa
How to be me (either with Chinchilla but if you want some of the back story to the song try the Instagram version
    Money Game pt1&2
Anything with The Big Push a band he played in.

Don’t sleep on the fact he did this live… no studio music dubbed over the video.
He also wrote/performed this (and is still battling with) what was once diagnosed as Lyme disease and has recently been rediagnosed with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. (Basically, his immune system is attacking his body)
He was thinking he had months to live and pre-recorded a bunch of music to be released over a period of time after he died.

I FOUND HIM IN A MOVIE CALLED THE UNREST which is a documentary about an illness called ME that is extremely underfunded tragically challenging and painful and I thought he was also a sufferer of it. know that he wrote the song for the documentary called UNREST .
I think you two would enjoy chalk outline and how to be me the duet is just so beautiful I also believe you'd like the wraps and money game 1 and 2 and humble is I think a great song and it shows you how he is able to slip and slide in and out of all kinds of genres it his talent as mind-blowing and extremely inspiring how he has fought through so much to continue to do what he loves and and follow his dream.
I encourage anyone that was deeply touched and intrigued by who ran is to watch the documentary. It it really is amazingly touching to see his strength and the others in the documentary and how they combat this illness everyday their strength is phenomenal 🙏
