Saints Row!!! I love this series!!! The first game was actually fairly serious, very GTA ish, but with far more character customization options, and a fairly serious story about gangs, though with a definite sense of humor and fun. Every subsequent game started getting more and more silly and over the top, adding celebrity cameos, aliens, superpowers, you name it. You even travel to Hell to fight Satan and his armies in Gat out of Hell, the expansion to SR4. Enjoy this journey, I know I will! Cheers!!!

@@AliBazz I mean, the games DO get crazier as they go, whether that's good or bad is up to the individual person to decide. I wasn't stating a preference, in fact, I prefer the first 2 myself. While the later games can be fun to play, they stop feeling like Saints Row, the tone established in 1 and 2. The thing is, the point I was making, is that they were recommended the series based on how silly and goofy the games are, but that doesn't really start til the Third. Cheers!😁
I loved Gat Outta Hell. Say what you will about SR4's direction, GOH was fucking awesome.

Ah, Saints Row. Picked it up back in 2010, and sort of the reason why I listen to rock and metal now, thanks to the stations Gen X, and The Krunch, although K-Rhyme had some great gangsta raps as well. The first game, being an Xbox exclusive, is the more serious one, with a lot less humor and more about the actual gangs. It was the main competitor to GTA at the time, but with a lot more you can do for your character. You can customize your own character, but only as a male at the time. The reason you know Julius's voice is because he's the Arbiter, or Spawn from MK 11, Keith David. Benjamin King, voiced the by the late great Michael Clarke Duncan, is probably the only the only gang leader that's a Wilson Fisk (considering he played as the Kingpin 3 years prior in Daredevil 2003). You also have T. C. Carson, the voice of Kratos (2005-2013) as Anthony "Big Tony" Green. The second game however has some humor here and there and has the actual protagonist talk. Saints Row 2 is regarded as one the best sandbox games. More customization for your character, male or female, plus you can choose 6 different voice options (3 male, 3 female). I hope you enjoy the Saints Row journey, you're in for a ride. I have a feeling that you two and Johnny Gat will get along.

This was great series... When it was about gangsters. As technology improved they wanted to differentiate themselves from GTA so they started to lose sanity in the game... until none was left. First and second games were great stories and third and fourth had good game play.
We heard it can get silly in third and fourth games 🤗
When you guys see the trailers for the other games its going to be such a different vibe, cant wait to see your reactions to it!

SR1, a top 5 for me. SR3 , 4, 5, and the reboot are pretty much train wrecks though. Big disappointment for original fans. Outside of 1 and 2 which were serious, everything after is just a clown act.
To add to what you said, when the reboot was shown both old fans (Saint's Row and SR2) and new fans (SR3 and SR4) hated it. For old fans it wasn't the "return to roots" they were trying to swindle people to believe and for the new fans they were asking "Where are
The Boss and Gat? Where are Pierce and Shaundi? Who the hell are these corny ass losers?"
It gets worse when the devs social media doubles down and starts acting snarky and shitty to the people voicing their concerns, made worse still with interviews showing even further it wasn't made in mind with either fans; cartoony weapons, laughable motives (they get into crime to pay off student loans, what criminal cares about that?), cringy quippy dialogue, explaining how they were designing the characters to be """relatable""" which is is double-speak for "I can't relate to anyone who isn't a facimily of me", obvious toned down and 'safe' humor, etc. The gang isn't even purple, it's teal. It's not a Saint's Row game. It's Watchdogs 2 with a gang skin slapped on it, what with the main characters being clear knock offs, with poorer gameplay as seen in previews.
Wew and don't get me started on Red Faction. What a feeble developer.

Julius, who takes the protagonist into his crew, is voiced by Keith David who also was the VA for Anderson in Mass Effect, as well as other games. :) This guy at 18:14 has Phil LaMarr behind him, which is on shared first place of my fav male va's alongside Liam. You guys could prob playthrough SR2 and GTAV's stories; they are so good. ^_^ And yeah, SR is pretty much GTA's rival; read quite some years ago that Volition teased in the media saying that their SR was much more fun and cooler than Rockstar's GTA, due to having more content and so. Personally like both series. c",)
We want to play gta v for sure and probably 4 as well. Not sure we will play a Saints Row game but maybe after checking out cutscenes for 2 we will want to play 3 🤗
Saints Row 1 and 2 are Goat, that reboot game shouldnt be named as Saints Row.
Saints Row 1 was great. But Saints Row 2... was a masterpiece. Without question the highest point in the series, in every way. Since then, the games have been a bit of mindless fun in short bursts, but the story was never something worth talking about again.
Seems like this is regarded as the crown jewel of the series 🤩

Their is actually a lot of depth in the first two games' story which are regarded as the more "serious" games (no not really serious, but just moreso than 3 and 4). Julius Little started the Saint's to eliminate the other gangs, his life as a young man shaped by violent crime that cost the life of his little brother after he himself and Benjamin King started The Vice Kings, he grew to despise the gangs and everything they stood for, but knowing that Stillwater's police and corrupt officials would never do anything about it he took matters into his own hands and started the Saints. At the end of Saint's Row 1 after seeing how violent and chaotic the Protagonist (us) are he betrays the Player and blows up the boat alongside the mayor and Troy who was actually an undercover cop, to clean up loose ends.
It's only in Saint's Row where the Player now with a new voice to truly depict how deeply psychotic we are and with a newfound chip on our shoulder after waking from a multi-year long coma. The Player once again embarks on a violent spree eliminating the new gangs of Stillwater while searching for who betrayed us. That's when we find the whole truth about Julius and take vengeance on him after he acknowledges that with the Player's lust for power and appetite for destruction, killing us was the only thing he could do to stop what he himself created after saving the Player from that attack years ago
That's the meta-level narrative of Saint's Row, a gang created to put an end to violent crime that becomes even more violent, more corrupt and more dangerous than all those gangs combined. The Player is the villain and Julius is very much the hero of the story, but he loses in the end and under the Player's rule, the Saints become superstar celebrities in Saint's Row 3, losing their street edge, but trading it for glitz, glamour and the influence of having friends in high places. It all reaches it's apex in Saint's Row 4, but that madness I'll leave you to see for yourself

Shame you guys aren't gonna react to saints row 1 cutscenes. The first 2 games are like movies. Especially number 2.
We might circle back to those cutscenes but heard 2 is where it’s at so that should get us hooked into the series 🙂

We have not yet. Only recently got into the franchise on the channel 🙂
Saint's Row was a landslide game that came out at the PERFECT time, GTA 4 leaned away from the satire and free-form gameplay they are known for to tell a more personal grounded story and Saint's Row said fuck that and went BALLS OUT. Free form missions where you tackle any of the three gangs in any order all at the same time, side activities that are nonsensical but fun like stealing septic tucks and spraying down public property with literal human feces to fill out your "Respect meter". Crazy levels of character and vehicle customization, a story that was bonkers and funny and irreverently offensive and genuine that also took moments for tragic moments and to build up memorable characters that made you really feel like you were in a gang, they even had planes which were notably absent from GTA 4 (likely out of respect for 9/11, but most likely cuz Rockstar just didn't get around to it, though they remove the Twin Towers from GTA 3 last minute when it came out in 2001)
Both games have their strengths. but Saint's Row filled a need that Rockstar neglected in GTA 4 and it let THQ and Volition muscle into the gamespace that Rockstar pioneered, Scarface: The World Is Yours, Just Cause, Mafia, Driv3r, True Crime were all regarded as "GTA clones" I think Saint's Row was the first game widely respected as a GTA rival.
Sadly both series have kinda fell from grace, GTA with their greedy publisher milking GTA Online for 10 goddamn years porting it to every console under the sun while deprioritizing story content + the recent exodus of key staff after the conclusion of Red Dead Redemption 2 content (just play this game it is fantastic) makes me truly believe Rockstar is just wrung dry at this point. While Saint's Row dipped so far into insanity that now the entire franchise has to be rebooted from point A (Saint's Row 4's plot literally is about the fallout of the Earth being destroyed by aliens with the protagonist entering a Matrix like digi-space to become a superhero). Couple that with Volition's recent spiritual successor Agents of Mayham flopping SPECTACULARLY and the upcoming reboot taking the game in a direction I can only describe as "not it chief" and it's just hard watching your heroes fall.
When you keep pushing the limits and go crazier and crazier, at some point you will go too far into the nonsensical. But then again if they don’t push the limits then they become stale. Tough line to toe. But loved the review for this series and it’s gotten us excited to check out more 😀

The first 2 games of Saints Row were superior
Rather than compare it to GTA, i generally think of the escalation in Saint's Row is more like how the Fast and the Furious franchise keeps getting crazier and more over the top with each movie despite starting off with a very grounded street-racing story.

One of the most fun games of all time , not the most logical or storybased game but definitely fun as hell
speaking of hell I'm pretty you play as one of the characters that goes to hell to rescue our main character. Then their's the one with the aliens that invade earth. I stopped playing after the third game because that's when I lost interest in the story. I heard they're making a new game and to be honest the trailer doesn't look that interesting to me.

God I love this series. Played it from beginning to end. Starts off pretty serious, like GTA, but with a few more jokes thrown here and there. Yet every installment then on just ramped up the ridiculousness until it reached Guardians of the Galaxy levels of cheese. Loved every second of it.

saints row 2 is great more realistic on the gang element like you are a ruthless gangster with just some a few loyaltys in the 3rd game they are basicaly media stars with money and power despite there ruthless criminal empire.

First billed as a GTA competitor with a more over the top and less grounded approach than GTA, the games were always in the shadow of GTA but did manage to carve their own niche. The series would take a sharp turn in the future and while the turn proved to be VERY successful, a lot of players also felt alienated and left behind. You'll see why when you check it out.

Also, about Saints Row: i only played third and fourth game, with it's expansion. Second game has a bad PC port, and first game was not even released on PC, so i never played it.
5:44 You noticed it. Yeah, it's Keith David, the guy who voiced Spawn in MK11 and old cartoon.
First one is Xbox exclusive, maybe with the Xbox cloud gaming it could come to PC soon.
@@JasonRogue Maybe, who knows. But then again, they need to fix the port SR2 on PC. Cause that one is broken AF. I heard that someone worked on a patch to fix that game, but it was what, like a few years maybe? and there is still no patch.
They already have quite a few videos on MK.
@@deathcold_longplaysua4846 yeah, I forget who, but they found the source code for SR2 years ago. Idol Ninja, one of the developers actually has many mods to make SR2 stable for PC, just look and install those if you want a better experience for SR2. Unfortunately he passed away in 2016, but damn did he love this game.

I haven’t played the games, only seen gameplays and they look so much fun. It does have GTA vibes from it and story seems interesting. Also feature you can customize your own character for story is a nice touch. I can’t wait for the newest one out there that twist up franchise to something new mix old fashioned. 😌

Saints Row. A series that started off at the serious point GTA was going into, but as it went forward. It honestly became better than GTA by taking the absolute piss out of itself and even having some of the best character customization.

I love Saints Row. I was late as hell getting into it, I started playing when 4 came out, but blazed through all of them in only a few months. It's up there with Assassin's Creed and Dragon Quest as one of the greatest franchises in my opinion. Mixed feelings on the reboot but we'll see how it turns out.

Saints Row 3 and 4 were definitely crazy and silly. The first one I could never get my hands on but was supposedly serious. The second one still seemed kind of serious but not as much. 3 and 4 was amazing though. I'm worried the reboot coming out will take out the fun and be like GTA again.
I’ve only played saints row 3 and 4. I love 3 it’s crazier than 2. And 4 is even crazier than 3. They play like GTA if GTA was A horny teenager, that did drugs passed out, then had a fever dream, in a good way. There’s also a spin off game called saints raw gat out of hell. I think it takes place after 4. They are all on PS4. There is cheat codes, but play without them on your first play through.

Saints Row 1 I never played, SR2 I did play through, SR3 and SR4 and Gat Out Of Hell I also played. So the original SR1 and SR2 was more GTA inspired with a more serious narrative, it wasn't until SR3 and SR4 that it got more comedic oriented, but that's what made it stand out was the comedy and outlandishness and being over the top. In SR2 you can freely dual wield and single wield pistols and SMGs at will, in SR3 and SR4 dual wielding became a permanent ability when you unlocked it. SR2 had a pesky little auto reload where the player character would reload without using the input...pesky if you're the ammo conservative type. You also mentioned how Julius Little's voice sounded familiar, that's because its Keith David, voice of the Arbiter from Halo 2 and 3, Goliath from Gargoyles The Animated Series, and the HBO Spawn The Animated Series. SR3 is hilarious and if you remember Spike TV when they aired MXC World's Most Painful Elimination Challenge, the voice overs of Kenny Blankenship and Vic Romano are present in the game for the commentary during Professor Genki's Super Ethical Reality Climax, and of course the Genki Bowl DLC, seriously they literally play an NFL theme, the song in question is Heavy Action by Johnny Pearson and damn if it isn't friggin' hilarious while having the commentary of Vic Wilson (Vic Romano) and Chris Darga (Kenny Blankenship). Another favored voice actor in the SR series is Yuri Lowenthal who voiced Shogo Akuji, the guy in the trailer you saw Johnny Gat punching through the grave stone. Yuri Lowenthal also voices Matt Miller in SR3 and SR4, and does some skits in the SR3 in game radio, SR3 also gets some love from Adult Swim as the game also features the theme song of Venture Bros, Tyler The Creator of Loiter Squad, one of the songs has sound clips of Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law, and Save Me From Myself from Squidbillies. And if you don't know who Yuri Lowenthal is, his most well known role in voice acting is Sasuke Uchiha of Naruto, Haru Glory of Rave Master, Ben 10 of Ben 10 Omniverse, and Haseo of Dot Hack G.U., yeah he's been around and is great. And if you love Family Guy, Tricia Takanawa is back as Jane Valderamma for the SR3 radio.

Saints Row 1 had its niche, but really it was discount GTA so I skipped 2 entirely. Years later the trailers for 3 came out and it was 100% goofy. They went all in on this is a comedy game. I got it and loved it. Got 4 and Gat out of Hell and those were... ehhhh. But 2 years ago Saints Row 2 was free on Xbox so I got it and omg the amount of content in it is huuuuuuge. Like I don't remember anyone talking about 2, but I think it's the best one! It's not as funny or polished as 3 onward, but those are completely different games. You can't even compare them honestly. 2 is still a GTA clone and I still wouldn't say it's as good as a GTA, but it could compete.
Also the white guy with the Sons of Samedi is Neil Patrick Harris. Maero the Brotherhood leader is Michael Dorn, and Julius in 1 and 2 is Keith David who's the Arbiter in Halo. Games have a solid cast.

The first game was trying to be a copy of grand theft auto. They obviously didn't beat Grand Theft Auto. So 2 and especially 3 decided, let's make Grand Theft Auto, mixed with The Naked Gun. Comedy GTA.
