To me this is Peter's masterpiece song... from the inspiration to the execution, the man is a true artist. Later tours he made the song even better if you can believe it.
Such a brilliant artist from fronting genesis to his solo career this guy is the GOAT! Every time I hear this I am transported to the plains and saddened at the lot of the native Americans.
While Genesis was busy turning from gods into a pop band, Peter kept expanding on the art. Talk about misheard lyrics though...I used to think he was saying "Santa Central" instead of "San Hacinto" (which is how to pronounce it. No 'u' after the 'J'. Thanks for this deep dive. I have never seen this brilliant performance of the genius visionary. Gracias.
This is the way to hear this song. It is a powerful song with a powerful message. Pete could really sell a song. I always loved his theatrics. I saw this performed essentially the same way a few years earlier in LA. Those were special times. Now can you pronounce it correctly? Say Ha not Ja.
I think youre analysis of the song is also how Ive always viewed it. I think this is a story of a young apache man going through a coming of age ritual, and is confronted with the view of the denaturalization of his land and customs as he climbs a mountain. As he reaches the top, he accepts that he must try to stay connected to the earth to hold true to his nature. I feel this is a very poignant message of consciousness and connection to the earth in our modern day lifestyle. Ironic that im commenting about this on youtube though. :P

He had such a clear vision for his art being delivered on the stage. A master performer.

Saw him do this on this tour when I was 16. Caught the bus to London. My first ever rock concert ❤🎉

So him front row 82/83. At times it was a shamanistic experience.
Another great reaction, thank you :)
Peter Gabriel is a great performer 😁

Peter Gabriel goes for the dramatic.
I like Peter Gabriel, but I'm not a superfan. This song, however, is one of my favorite songs by any artist
