    re: lane position: I made the mistake of telling my wife that the white line on the right is sometimes called the "mayo" and the yellow lines called the "mustard", and the object is to keep your ride between the "mustard and the mayo". She likes to let me know on the intercom "a little too much mayo on that last turn" or "too much mustard, slow down". Cracks me up every time!

    When I took a Navy-sponsored motorcycle safety course in the early 80's, the instructor said something that stuck with me. Whether on 2, 3 or 4 wheels, ride w/in your abilities. The more you ride, the better your abilities become... Baby steps

    Another great video Coach. You helped me a ton before and just after I bought my Spyder. Your channel should be required viewing for new Spyder owners.
    Thanks for all you do.

    Thank you for confirming what I discovered mostly by my self. There is very little information on when to shift. I found that my Spyder likes it in the same range that you have found. Although going from 5th to 6th still bothered me. You have now solved that. I know that Eco mode gives an indication of when to shift, but Shawn Smoak gave strong warnings about using Eco mode. I hope every one in your family is doing well.

    • @CoachBob3

      I honestly never use eco mode. I wish they would create "more sporty/performance" modes for the Spiders like they do in the European Sport Tourer motorcycles. Thanks for the comment.

      My wife is a T7 para (complete)..she can ride the Spyder with the addition of a hand brake. A company called ISCI makes them.
      Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate ya being here.

    I like the ability to be able to downshift in twisties. A few years ago, I missed that when my control module had to be replaced and I lost the manual ability to downshift. I was glad to get it back!

    For those in NC . You can take a bikesafe course. Local police departments conduct the training. Very good course to take.

    I think with experience and miles, you just sort of "know" when to shift...like you say, "it just feels right".

    I tried to reply to your comment earlier but it didn't post. Anyway, I am starting to get used to the handling of my reverse trike. Its a 99 Kawasaki Vulcan Drifter 1500. Norm Kokes at Endeavor Trikes in MN did it and I got it back in mid-December. I have only been out 4 times due to weather being so nasty, but I'm starting to get the hang of things bit by bit. Your videos and some others have really helped. The remaining part that I need to get a handle on is the body lean.

    Good tips, Coach Bob! My manual actually shows examples of turns and mentions them in the book itself. These are good things to know! Thank you for sharing your tips! 💜💜🤗🤗

    Great advice Coach Bob. I just purchased a 2023 Spyder RT Limited yesterday, March 30, at a great Can am dealer in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada, about 90 minutes from my place. I will be riding my Harley Davidson Ultra Classic there later this week for the trade in. Picking up the Spyder April 18. My wife and I are getting a little older, and I feel it is time to ride something with more stability and safety in mind.

    Coach Bob, I watched Hettish World when Bob rode the Tail of the Dragon. He mentioned that he pushed the Spyder to the traction control point. I am going to a RT for the comfort where the F3 would be a better choice for performance from what I have heard. I suppose I am challenging you video the ride so I can get your perspective. You are the only Spyder rider I know that has track time.

    Something you should really mention is the amount of "body" lean you need for curves. You talk about pushing and pulling with your hands and lane position BUT what I needed to see was the reverse shots on the curves of your body position.

    Do you ever downshift for engine braking when riding a little more "aggressively"?

    • @CoachBob3
      @CoachBob3  5 месяцев назад

      Very rarely and only if necessary. Something like a rapid pass or emergency stop.

  • @Kyle181INF

    Can you engine brake with the Spyder?

    • @CoachBob3
      @CoachBob3  5 месяцев назад

      Yes... the engine slows you down very nicely.

    Is leaning into the curves a thing on Spyders? We got our 2 weeks ago and we are having fun with it. We are semi leaning but I am worried about the possibility of the front tire coming off the ground. Is that is thing on Can Am or more on traditional trikes?

    So why wear an adventure helmet on the street? And what’s on the visor? It appears you like the 2022?

    • @CoachBob3
      @CoachBob3  7 месяцев назад

      My Arai XD4 has become my favorite for shorter jaunts. It may even one day become my primary lid. Light weight, excellent visibility and the visor is great. I have a small recharge map/camp light attached to the visor.
      I am really enjoying the Spyder.

      I took it off during a rainy season and never put it back on. It's great, but I don't really push my Spyder that hard. It is a major fun toy though.
