The way Danny laughs when he sees that he is holding his ticket out of Africa and realizing that he won't make it out alive in the end... Leonardo DiCaprio completely redeemed himself from his role as Romeo.

Archer was never the good guy and he never pretended to be. He completely intend to keep the diamond for himself, it was only when he saw the plane that he accepted death and figured “well at least someone can benefit” he always knew who he really was and finally accepted himself.
Archer wasn't a good guy, but he became one in the end. he found his humanity again. Afterall, Archer and Solomon had been thru a lot together, and that does build a strong bond between two men.
When Leo promoted this movie he said they had to keep filming that scene over and over because Djimon kept walking up that hill with little effort while carrying Leo and was told he needed to make it look harder.
I love how he's so blunt about his evil intention and his personal agenda. He never portrayed himself as a hero or pretended to be a good person. He's a cynical that doesn't shy away from showing his caustic evil humor and intentions.
Leo D is without doubt the finest & most versatile actor of my generation, while his sheer talent, depth & force of nature enables him to edge & even equal the legendary greatness of Al Pacino & DeNiro the kid is that amazing! And this scene further certifies that, Leo's superb & mature mastery of his craft, even at a young age. He should have at least 5 Oscars by now. I will always admire him, as a stupendous actor & a fine person. Keep em coming my man!

I had a rather unpleasant infection several months ago, the side effects of which put enormous strain on my heart. One evening, I tried to climb the three flights of stairs to my apartment. My mistake: this is literally what happened to me. DiCaprio is painfully accurate, to the point that my only thought as my friend carried me to the hospital was--this scene.

I am now a 71 year old man and this movie has always had such an emotional impact on me..... the acting, dialogue, and music harmonizing together.
The amputation scenes scarred me for ever.

Definitely one of the best scenes within the movie. The African continent is truly magnificent and beautiful.
And Danny never managed to leave. There is such tragic beauty here in this scene.
