  • @MajorTomFisher

    Somehow by "updating" all the aesthetics of the show they managed to make it look like a cheap CW show. The interiors of every ship in Trek from TOS to Voyager have been well-lit corridors and stations just like an actual ship would be because starships aren't run by Computer Scientists and people need to actually see what they're doing. The dark panels with blinding lights make the sets look like something from Batwoman rather than Trek.

    • @onimaxblade8988
      @onimaxblade8988 21 день назад

      The editing and directing is jarring to me too. Though that's probably more of a nitpick. I don't think a trek successor or spin off necessarily needs the more flat, stage-like, blocked out visual direction.

    • @TheCyberloki
      @TheCyberloki 21 день назад

      indeed. and the 32th century was just like they didn't know how to make the future look even more futuristic so they did the Back to the future approach and made everything floating and neon everywhere without explanation. But that was the beauty of trek. There were strange design choices like a big blue glowing thing on the front. however they gave us explanation for why that is and why it has to be at the front and what it does. Same for the interoir. The things we see made sense from a practical aspect. Discovery seems to be all about the rule of cool with flying turbolifts through unneccesarry and unexplained large spaces in the ship.

    You forgot a big one:
    In S4, when they reach the original dead homeworld of the Not!ProtomoleculeHeptapods, it's described as being a former gas giant whose atmosphere was stripped away by an asteroid bombardment. You'd need literal planets to strip away the atmosphere of even the smallest of gas/ice giants. And yet, somehow, the alien ruins still survived on the core of the gas giant unaffected by the mother of all asteroid impacts. Then later, when the Discovery crew move to the new aliens homeworld, they somehow manage to get to the bottom of their gas giant planet, where it is almost identical to the dead world, even though the area around a gas giant core should be ultracompressed matter, and possibly metallic hydrogen. Oh and the atmosphere is perfectly breathable there.

At that speed, you could go from one end of the galaxy to the other in a few hours. If it takes you a hundred years to travel 100,000 light years, the Star field should not be noticeably changing over the course of a few minutes of travel.

    I think writers didn't study math and science at all unlike old star trek series. they just do bla bla bla. this is not science fiction. it is just space opera.

    • @michaelbarnard8529
      @michaelbarnard8529 20 дней назад

      No, space opera doesn’t try to pretend that the solution to all problems is the clever manipulation of scientific principles. Space opera just wraps its magic in tech looking skins and asks you not to think about it too hard. This is cargo cult sci-fi.

  • @TharnUsagi47

    😳😧🤮 Sound through space... sonar (or inventing it, again)... “space is loud”... these idiots must think radio frequency broadcasts actually are sound traveling through air. Or they wanted to top the “Balance of Terror” Romulans shushing each other. Or mock it. That script writer had insecurity writing sci-fi, so they told him to write it as a submarine story, then nobody edited it. What excuse do these morons have? Or it's all actually Seaquest. Jango Fett's “sonic” mine is nothing after this. Almost makes riding gravity waves seem smart in comparison, but this takes place in a time when your usual engines go far beyond that, there would be nothing remarkable about it. And the infinite TARDIS turbolift scene... I have no words. Just proves the ship is mostly empty space, I guess it's just a metaphor for their brain contents.

    • @tnspnk3
      @tnspnk3 22 дня назад +1

      Not I. I don’t subscribe to Any of the streaming services (well I have Amazon prime, but that comes with prime). Definitely not paying to watch nu trek. I had said in Twitter groups, I’m not watching while it’s behind a paywall. Once it’s released on dvds, I thought I might but those. But after all I’ve heard, that seems unlikely. Even from what little I’ve seen, they have no respect for actual science nor cannon in their series. I had high hopes for Strange New Worlds, but no, after a few episodes I saw they still knew nothing about cannon nor science. Too bad, a couple episodes were decent, but the episode where someone takes over the ship was too contrived and illogical to even finish watching.
