Cool info there Glenn, thanks for sharing. Hmmm, this sounds very intriguing mate... I will definitely check this fella out. I'm a huge 959 fan, had my first one back in the eighties that I pounded into the ground (and loved every minute of it!) 😂 Since getting back into the hobby I have built/own another two 959s and a celica GRB (Have you seen them on Green Hawks?) One of the 959s and the Celica have been fully restored to as new condition, totally mint..... nearly bankrupted myself in the process! (these two stay firmly on the shelf) New in pack parts are now so hard to find, and ridiculously expensive! With the left over parts I built a third car as a runner, complete with aluminium arms and suspension components. These cars are truly unique, and a real pleasure to drive..... such a quirky design. But, they are not without their issues! I can safely say they are the weakest Tamiya ever produced! The ABS is so brittle, the design of the front and rear wishbones is fundamentally flawed.... the plastic shatters at every point a screw enters it (when mounting the shocks and ball joints onto the arms) The hubbs are incredibly weak and always brake away at their mounting points. The area where the Mid chassis/battery compartment mounts to the rear gearbox always cracks as you tighten the nut and bolt to attach the two sections. The front end is very weak and is prone to braking away from the Mid chassis on even a light impact. The metal aerial splits the top of the rear diff housing should you flip the car. The front inner bumper always tears, and often the resistor mounted on it gets damaged upon front end impact. The body shell is as thin as tracing paper, and splits around the arches just from mounting the shell! Obviously the demand for Tamiya to re re this model is strong (and I would love to see it)..... but a lot of people don't realise that this car really will not handle anything other than a fairly light run on smooth tarmac, unless of course Tamiya improve the quality of the plastics substantially. Even then, it's still not what you could class as a rally car (well only in looks, not function) That's where this project you mention comes in..... all the looks and charisma of the gorgeous 959,just with a more modern, and more capable, stronger chassis! It certainly has potential, and would look great painted up in the blue and white Rothmans livery with reproduction MCI decals. Great to see the legend of this eighties icon still strong in peoples hearts after all these years! 👍 👍 👍
Yeah, I had a friend who was lucky enough to have the Toyota back in the day and you could bet on it that half way through playing he would be sat watching our Monster Beetles, Fox, Hornet etc still blasting around. It was a brilliant little chassis to look at. Really rapid compared to anything else we bought out but certainly has its flaws. As I have said to Addam I wouldnt go for an original unless it was a cheap boot sale find lol. There has been something about this one Rob is doing that caught my eye straight away.
@@rivierarc He he, we all have those awesome memories from the golden era of RC well and truly etched into our memories! It's going to be great seeing the newer spin on this classic on a different chassis tearing about once more..... I will be watching! 👍 👍 👍
I’ve been following along as Project 959 has been released and think it is amazing. The attention to detail and the pictures with the 1:1 are wonderful. If he hasn’t sold out of the 100 by March 1st - I’ll place my order as well. Trying to stick to my monthly hobby budget no matter what. Knowing you’ve got one makes it little easier to wait since I know I’ll see it one day - even if only through your channel. Excited for you. Have a great week.
I did say no more kits until May, then found the loophole with buying an RTR, .... and this one quite possibly won't be out and finished until after then. I am really looking forward to it. I know a lot of people can't justify the price, which is fair enough but there are others that will understand the work etc etc that has gone into all the extra parts and the design etc. It will be something special.
I have been following along with it and it is a cool project. I just have any connection or desire to have a 959 kit. I know it is an iconic car and kit but I am not a fan of it. I know I may have to turn in my Tamiya collectors club membership card for saying it LOL! I am glad it is doing well and you are right, he is pouring a lot of heart and soul into it and I wish him all the best. If he makes a blazing blazer remix then he will have my full attention!! LOL!
Haha, hmmm, the Blazer... a lovely bit of kit. As for the original 959 it isnt something I would buy just to have one on the shelf but there is definitely something about this. Yeah, i could possibly pick up an original in fairish condition for that price but I really do like this Project. Unsure if it will be built, be a shelf queen or be a light runner.
So do I!! Haha... going away in 3 weeks for a relax in the country. My wife had a large corner sofa in our cottage and I can take something RC. Went there this time last year and I did most of the Renault Alpine. Seriously tempted to take the Stratos.. 🤔🤔😀
Ive been following Rob and his 959 project, i would really love one but just cant put the money into it 😭 so i’ll look forward to your video 👍 in also looking forward to seeing the stratos, i need one myself as im looking at having some group B rally cars, all runners and all will get run 👌
I had other plans for certain funds later this year. This popped up and I just didnt think twice about it. As for the Stratos, hoping that may be done in March when I am away on holiday
Awesome project. I like the red colour of the body. The Lancia'll gonna be great, too Glenn
Hoping the Lancia will be started in the fairly near future 😀
Cool info there Glenn, thanks for sharing.

Looks to be a great project with a lot of passion leading it. Good luck Rob.
So much passion. Some parts are getting even more detail. I really cant wait for this
