Every tracer I have seen begins to glow as soon as it leaves the barrel. (not at 50 yards or 100 yards etc.) Like here imgur.com/a/HWTP278
cant argue with that logic
Milspec tracers light at 100 yards so as not to give away the shooters position, do your research next time
Would like to see you guys do a penetration test with the .375 H&H Magnum. I know it's not a popular caliber in America but it is in Africa and very few (if any) penetration vids done on it.
The copper ingot looked like 2 - ³/⁸" to me
I would definitely say those were incendiary rounds, tracers start burning from inside the barrel because of the powder igniting the "pyrotechnics" in the tracer round and not on impact like in the video
If those are M25 tracers, they won't ignite until 100 yds down range - the idea was for the tracer to indicate closeness to the target and not indicate where the shooter is.
M25 would be .30-06
well, the principle of not giving away the shooter goes for all tracers, I guess?
White tip fire starter
Well i was thinking the same thing, they were shooting them too close to the target, the ignition time was never reached
Thank you!
Age can affect a tracer but some tracers do have a time/range of activation
they need a little time to heat up
Yeah, should tried shooting at a target from at least 100 yards away.
Most NATO 7.62 tracer ammo is designed to 'light up' at >100m. This is to stop the tracers from showing your exact position.
and possibly shoot at dusk whilst still seeing the treeline.
Tracers are DESIGNED so they don't illuminate right from the muzzle. It's bad enough tracers work both ways but having it go right to the point of aim for the enemy is a terrible idea.
I'm just glad that all of you were able to escape Californistan. These brave men tasted freedom, even if it was only for a day. Good to see the whole crew, together.
Tracer rounds don't usually ignite until the 70 yard range
Agreed... shot many of these out of M240B machine guns.
Jason Jacques yes , to protect the bore and not give away Your specific position
between 50 and 75 is the norm and all they had to do was read the spec sheet found through google .maybe before they shoot next time they will do some research and look as if they have a clue as to what they are doing

You're shooting too close for the tracers. They need a little distance before they light up.
Edit: Have you done 12 ga. bird bombs? They're like an M80 stuffed into the shell with a fuse that makes it explode around 35 yards away. Fun items. I might have a few if you haven't demo'd them yet.
Why not just use birdshot? Less expensive, probably less prone to defects, can be used at ranges other than 35 yards... It sounds like a cool idea, but I've seen too many useless or defective novelty 12 gauge cartridges not to be sceptical.
Sounds like something I'd be a little scared to shoot. Also sounds like even if it worked right it'd send shot back at you at some point.
Brian Scott they are agriculture based rounds. They are used to scare birds out of a farmer’s orchard. They don’t contain shot, they are not intended to kill birds.
I've always heard it called scare shot. One hell of an explosive inside them.
@@bennettrogers7921 There are also "bird bombs" that look like the old M-80's that utilize a starter pistol looking device. These use a .22 blank to propel and ignite the "bird bomb" about 50 to 75 feet. These are much more powerful than the 12ga bird bombs. At least they were 20 years ago.

Sanctuary safe... I love it.
If cities can refuse to enforce immigration laws, can other cities refuse to enforce gun control laws??? Great video as usual Jeff and gang.
Gyppor Yep! It’s happened in places like rural Colorado. The local authorities look the other way.
The entire state of Kansas is a sanctuary state for guns. They said 5 or so years ago no new gun laws would be enforced and any fed who tried would be hit with every charge possible
Of course, knowing the state of CA they'd crack down on any city that tried to defy their criminally stupid (and illegal) gun laws. They've been threatening people with fines (at least) if they cooperated with ICE and/or reported illegal immigrants. So given that, hey'd probably have no problem with threatening to defund any city that tried to ignore CA gun laws.
That's awesome!
Gyppor In Redding, California the local law enforcement claimed that the newest gun laws were unenforceable and will not be pursued. I heard police (in person) claiming that they wouldn’t even enforce the old laws pertaining to mag size and bullet buttons due to the endless pursuit of a true gun ban

Love the FAL, used in the Reserves, long ago,
the kick gives incentive to save ammo, hence you tend to shoot straighter
I always laugh when I see the "youtube analysts" criticizing the accuracy of you guys. It is a dead giveaway on someone who has extremely limited experience shooting a real gun. It has been quite a few years but I got qualified for both marksman and sharpshooter badges on various weapons when I was in the military. I am all too aware how difficult some of the shots you guys are shooting. Nothing but absolute respect for "OG" and Danny on controlling some of the absolutely crazy rounds you guys shoot.
Thank you sir. There will always be Fortnight special operators who know how to shoot better than those of us who run these guns daily to protect our lives.
Oh they are indeed "special".
The shots are fine, im just wondering why they know so little. Tracer rounds take a little ways before lighting up.. and a little "red paint or maybe copper jacket" no shit its jacket.
@@OGsDangerShow That guy's channel is nothing but him playing video games. When someone says shit like "it's been a few years... sharpshooter... military..." they're full of shit. You two can keep on 69-ing each other about Internet criticism and play it off like shooting at 20 yards with a rifle is difficult. The reality is that shooting at 20 yards is that you're shooting for the camera and not the practicality of the round. Anyone familiar with tracers knows ignition and burnout and anyone unfamiliar could search it on the Internet. This channel has always been amateur hour. Entertaining but, what isn't when you're shooting weird shit in slow motion?

You were too close for the tracers to work
Every tracer I've seen is burning when it leaves the barrel
imgur.com/a/HWTP278
TAOFLEDERMAUS depends on the ammo some can take up to 100yrds to ignite but cool video as always
It depends on the purpose of the tracer. If it is an "over head training" tracer then it is likely to be seen immediately after exiting the muzzle. If it is a tactical round, then the subigniter and igniter chain will burn without significant signature delaying initiation of the illuminating grain until it is downrange. If it is a "dim" tracer then it can't be seen at all without light amplification. If it is an IR tracer, then it can't be seen without an IR imager.
It depends on when the rounds were manufactured, who made them, and how they are marked.
The "OG" is a good man! I wouldn't mind building some ghost guns, I mean undocumented rifles lol
You gots to do what you gots to do!
sinformant Not really that difficult and perfectly legal to do. You just need to buy a so-called 80% lower then get a drill press and get to milling out the insides of the receiver. After that it's a simple matter of getting it blued or cerakoted and adding the guts.
Phil Hsueh LOL I know the process. And I am a machinist by trade.
What's an undocumented gun?
Michael McCall home firearms. Examples would be an 80% ar15 lower, glock, 1911. Completely legal to make yourself, depending on your state laws. Federally they are legal, you just can not sell them or give them away to anyone, personal use only.
Years ago I had an H&K 91, chambered in .308. I went out to the Everglades and found a 14 inch thick wooden beam. I set it up with a steel pail and the round went through the beam, through both sides of the steel pail and I still didn't find the bullet. For sure it'll go through trees.
You all were shooting a lot closer than what I'd care to. You're brave
Got an awesome idea: Line up various paint cans in front of a large canvas (or multiples smaller canvas) and blast away. Then sell the resulting art.
I know I'd buy to support the channel!
It might end up in the Getty Museum.
Can't be worse than the crap in the Tate Modern, anyway.
Bubble someone did this not.long ago....I can't remember who. Shit.

No need for tracers, the jokes lit the way.
This AP & tracer rounds experience test was fun and interesting, but these rounds were meant to be used at greater distance, which would have made this test session even more fascinating had distance increased towards end.
308 core lokt on deer works great to.. Last year he only ran 15 feet.
Every deer I've ever shot dropped dead on the spot. I've shot one deer.
I'm not sure if there are different kinds of tracers, but the ones I've used (conscript in the Swedish army) were just ordinary rounds with a small gob of phosphor stuck to the bottom of the bullet. It takes a little while before the phosphor starts reacting with the oxygen in the air, so it only ignites after travelling a few (10 or so) meters. Good thing too, cleaning the machine gun would've been even more of a b-tch with burnt phosphor all over it. :D
So yeah, it's basically like a tiny tiny incendiary round.
The tracer compound is ignited by the powder charge. It has it's own oxidizer and doesn't need exposure to the air.
Would make a lot more sense, but this was back in the 90s - and as part of the conscript army we were always training with the cheapest stuff available (i.e. old, leftover ammo). Heck, my brother that's only 6 years my elder was issued a Kpist -45 ("Swedish K").
I did some machine gun shooting with tracers back in -96 in the FDF and they pretty much lit up at the muzzle but the compound was in the tip of the bullet.. Also they did give a bit of a flash when impacting on steel as the compound was splattered all over.. My enlightened guess here is that the tracers boys had here sort of ignited on the kinetic energy of the impact.. The coolest thing however was the 12,7x109 AA-machinegun spitting 800rpm belt full of tracers and incendiery.. Shit got on fire and dirt and splinters were flying all over.. Especially vivid was to see tracers ricocheting and flying half a mile arcs and incendiery igniting 100 meters up in the air after skimming from shit.. :D
BILL SCHNEIDER I have some Russian green tracers in 54r. I forget what compound it uses. I also read that the Japanese machine gun tracers were light blue.
@@StPaul76, it is highly unlikely (as in impossible) to have a tracer round constructed with the tracer element in the tip.
How would you see it during flight and how would it be ignited and burned??
I think what you meant to infer is that your rounds were of an "incendiary" construction and, Yes, the incendiary material (powdered zirconium crystals usually) was in the forward-most part of the interior of the outer jacket.
Upon impact with any "hard" target, the internal, dense, steel or tungsten penetrator (IF also an AP round) would obviously continue forward until it crushed the zirconium crystals, causing intense (!!) heat and, thus, the "flash" which can be quite pronounced.
Depending on the kind of ordinance (but usually .50 caliber and above due to construction complexity and lack of interior real estate) rounds can include:
Armor Piercing,
Incendiary,
Tracer or a combination of some/all of these.
When assembled and the projo tip painted, the nomenclature for the round would be labeled as:
API-T
(Armor Piercing Incendiary-Tracer)
to denote what it actually was.
Tracers by their very nature are used to show where rounds are falling to ensure good target coverage.
Armor Piercing are designed to defeat (AKA Penetrate) hard or hardened targets up to a given distance, thickness and material construction.
Incendiary are designed to set fire to surrounding materials as well as to cause fuels/oils to burn when exposed to the HOT debris of the burning crystals.
There you go.
We are all more smartened up for the day.

Officer Gregg that's not what "she" said.

+Officer Gregg
So we can pretend it was liquid, gas or plasma?
l wilton, I can say with some authority on the topic that’s not true. Ammo can be laying next to the gun but can’t be “attached” to the gun per CA Penal Code. I recommend students don’t let it touch the gun just to be safe. I’ve never heard of the six foot thing. F&G and CHP operate in vastly different environments my friend.
In the UK, it's a firearms offence to "cause interruption to any person" with the sound of an air gun (that isn't legally a firearm) being discharged *within 50 feet of the centre line of a highway* or to have a loaded air gun on a road without due cause. This creates the silly situation that I can legally shoot from the private woodland by the stream towards the road but not from the road towards the private woodland across the stream ... and yes, we do have "four lanes and a hard shoulder in each direction" highways here and they are more than 100 feet wide.
I was taught to shoot by a retired Marine Corp officer and his buddy, retired Marine Corp Gunny. The bullshit artists would come and brag how far they could shoot and Pat would just say "great, let's go shoot and see". Nobody ever did, he was at that time professional security for some big time clients.
I managed 5 moa at 500 yards with my bedded Winchester 70 varmiter in .308 with handloaded 190 grain Sierra Matchkings and 8x Leopold with target knobs. Only because of Pat the Marine, 18 years ago. Great teacher.
Just like a co-worker who talked about what a great shot he was. I brought in my 1911 with laser trainer in it and after work in the dark parking lot, started taking shots at a telephone pole about 50 feet away. I tried to hand it to him, but he said he refuses to "dry fire" a weapon. F'ing priceless.
Ooh rah !
Did you mean 5 inches at 500 yards? 5 MOA at 500 is 25 inches from point of aim. That's pretty terrible, and wouldn't allow you to even qualify to the Marine Corps iron sight standards.

Tracer rounds can have an incendiary effect like what we saw here.
I set a range on fire with them once. They gave me 20 tracers, 40 ball and 2 magazines and told me we'd be shooting at 100m, 200m and then 300m, so I put all the tracer at the bottom of mag 2. The last shoot was 10 rounds grouping. It was a tight group, and the smoke cloud behind the target got a little bigger after each shot ...
Fortunately, the brush and straw were sparse enough to burn out fast.
That is a nice gun.
Your tracers were probly delayed trace to protect the barrel from burn. They wont activate untill they are 75 to 100 yards out. Also keeps enemy's from closing in on your position.

I cant shoot as well as you lot..........probably lol Rim fires and pnuematic airguns is all i get to shoot in the UK, i am sure those tracers light up at about 150-200 yds, Great vid as usual
Wow that bites wind, but air rifles are though, just no boom
Safety is obviously extremely important BUT videos with tracers in the daytime?? Tracers are used to help troops to see where their rounds are going, they are not designed to have any extra power. When firing a machine gun on full auto it's difficult to track the rounds, the tracers allow the gunner to see where the rounds are going and make adjustments as necessary.
You guys make bathroom time very enjoyable........
Always a lot of fun watching your channel!
thanks Paul!
Speed kills armor. And the faster and harder the projectile, the harder it is to stop.
I promised myself long ago that I would be " non California compliant " , so far, so good ! 😊
Would be great to have a few hundred of those AP rounds, a LARGE assortment of materials to test and a full day to do it........... you know....... for science ! 😊 👍
Thanks for sharing and take care. 👍 👍
If your pistol grip extends below your butt, you're not CaliCompli ... so be sure to sleep on your back if you ever visit.
For myself, I'd like to take a 16" AR15, an Enfield Competition Rifle (25.4" barrel bullpup AR180) a lot of magazines and ammunition and some building materials and tools out into the desert somewhere miles from anybody, set up a pair of 24' tall, 8' wide 0.5" plywood walls with an aiming mark on each near the top and shoot 10 rounds ball and 10 rounds tracer at one with each rifle from 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 500m, 600m, 700m and 800m to see how the group sizes compare, whether the two types become two separate groups and how much more spread there is after the bullets go sub-sonic, then pull back to 900m, 1000m, 1100m and so on and keep hitting them from as far back as I could to see just how far back I have to be before they won't go through.
If you do some research, you can buy "pulled down AP AND Tracer projo's to load for yourself.
Google is your friend. 😉
You guys shoots real good n stuff.
Thanks for not editing out the lower shot against the hammer. It's not cool You tube wants to demonetize your hard work.
