Hey, guys! The mine's primary role right now is more touristy and health-related. As many here commented already, breathing in the salty air does wonders for your lungs (and it's an actual recognized therapy) - that's why they turned it into into a some sort of SF amusement park: no one would be spending 2-3 hours in here, breathing in the air as a therapy, if it would be plain and boring. As a fun fact though, the salt from there could cover the salt requirement for the entire Planet for 60 years. And you won't see anything like it anywhere else in the world. :)
Saline Air is very healthfull. But in order to actually have a real impact on langs You need to breath the Air ar least 2-3h . That's why all of that facilitties exist. The time passes easier...
These salt mines are used with a therapeutic purpose. You're supposed to spend in there a few hours everyday for a certain period of time and that will improve your asthma symptoms. That's the reason it's made like an amusement park, so people wont get bored in there for so many hours.
Salt mines like Turda or Praid are also healing places, not only public /tourist attractions. People are going in to heal from different lung diseases like asthma, COPD, so on. As someone else said in a comment, all those facilities are made for people and especially kids to feel like spending a quality and fun time instead of feeling getting a treatment for their medical conditions. Edit. But have you seen the lake guys? You didn't visit all the mines. 🤔
Salty air has good benefits for the respiratory system. People who need treatment have to spend a few hours per day inhaling the salty air, so all the amusement areas are designed to keep them busy during this time. The whole point is to have fun and enjoy the eerie atmosphere. And maybe have lots of IG shots, if you're a social media addict. Those lights transform the place. There are also concerts happening occasionally in the amphitheater. Fun fact: the temperature is constant during the year so it feels cold in the summer, but if you go there in winter you will feel warm versus the air outside. The historical part is along the corridor you went in at the beginning of the visit and if you can arrange for a guide, they will give you more details. For example, the rotating device that would pull the salt blocks was turned by using horses. These horses were old, retired from the austro-hungarian army. Once they got inside the mine they would never get out, they would be used until they died. In time, because they spent the last years of their lives in the dark, they would go blind. Also, the first wooden staircase before you get to the large balcony on top was called "The rich people staircase". In the past, only the nobility had the privilege to go in the mine for the salty air treatment and they would use this stair case. The only common people to go in the mine were the workers. The mine could also be used as a bomb shelter if needed. There are more salt mines in Romania that are being renovated in a similar way, with entertainment spaces. Turda is the most popular one, the second is Praid but there are many more.

I would visit this salt mine if only to experience the feeling of being deep underground and that Ferris wheel being there,I’d say that is pretty darn unique.Steve is right though,it would have been nice to learn more of the history of the salt mine. @@joycetan4684 That's nice to know. Have u seen UTube videos at ice caves or crystal cave in Europe, just like superman beginning on earth. Wearing masks, it's used to be for doctors n nurses, n of course, bandits. Now, everyone is either a doctor, nurse or a bandit, hehehe. 😀

🇹🇩Hey guys!!! I have a few place recommendations for you. 1. The Water Mills at Rudăria - the only village in Romania made out of water mills, the people there are very friendly and you have an amazing view. You can also buy from the local sellers freshly minced flour or langoș cu branza 2. Bigăr Cascade Falls- an amazing waterfall near the water mill village which is known as one of the most amazing ones in Romania. What i really like about it is the fact that it has a small cave near it which you can visit and i would totally recommend it to you because you have some amazing views 3. Near the location you’re currently in, you must visit - Iazul Valea Sesii. 4. You can also try to visit the Mud volcanoes in Buzau - i loved seeing them 5. In the Apuseni mountains there are a couple of caves I absolutely adore: Huda lui Papara (which is also near you), Pestera Muierii (pestera=cave) and also The Bears cave (spectacular place)
