- This video will be the first of a special Tactical TAC0 series, where we will take a look at various night vision devices and discuss their uses. On this episode, I will review the Nightfox Prowl, a budget oriented digital night vision device that offers surprising capability for the price. While it is by no means the best of the field, it just might be the perfect item for your budget or as a gift, and may even provide just enough performance to be useful for “airsoft”.

I would also suggest putting the built in ir on the top on the unite to avoid light slash on the sights. I noticed on a paired setup using the built in light on the contralateral side was functional

hows motion blur with the latest firmware?
Ok. The BIG questions is this: NightFox Prowl or NVG 30?? Which is best???
We're still testing but the clifnotes version is that NVG30 SHOULD be a no brainer because it really is a complete upgrade in layout and capability
It even actually sees in night color better than the aurora, as it much more accurately recreates shadowing
Except the eyepiece lens is so cripplingly bad that you can't even utilize the improved resolution vs the 10
It fisheyes worse than any device (camera or otherwise) that I've ever purchased for $500, and because it still uses the NVG-10 mounting, you still have to buy a 3D printed aftermarket adapter to put it on G24
If your goal is a first person night camera absolutely buy it, it is unparalleled in video footage
If your goal is night vision you can use in real time I'd give serious thought to how patient you are with significant viewer flaws
Is it normal that at IR0 my naked eye sight is better than the nightfox Prowl?

We've uploaded full size video of the testing we did. The A229 PRO uses STARVIS 2 low light HDR which means it's an accurate near 1:1 recreation of the street footage. I couldn't see better than that camera because of the combination of mixed street lighting (which causes your eye to constrict) and very dark area shielded from the light by shrubbery.
Maybe you have unusually good eyes but normal people can't keep their eyes dilated under a streetlight.
Is your prowl new? I just purchased 2 prowls from batch number 0124 from nightfox, 1 of my new units would NOT pick up IR light. I contacted night fox and they informed me that there is a firmware issue with batch 0124 and they're going to replace my unit at no cost to me. Contact nightfox and see if they can help.
