    Digital is not for the poor. I own 2 Gen 3 analogs including high spec L3 filmless WP and Thermal and yet I use NVG30. I see them as tools and use them for different applications. NVG30 really shines in the urban area where you have to deal with street light, house light, etc.

      That’s a great perspective! Thank you so much for that!

    • @Raz_Tactical
      @Raz_Tactical 2 месяца назад +1

      I used both digital and analogue and can partially agree. It is definitely the cheaper option and it normally wouldn't be my first recommendation but it has its advantages.
      I think where digital shines is either handheld or rifle mounted with IR. Its great for pest control and hunting. IR is actually beneficial in that use case as animal fur and eyes tend to reflect quite nicely and highlight the animal for you. Digital also is great for the transitional period where its too dark to see into shadows but too bright for NVGs.
      I do think however digital as a wearable device is idiotic. It doesn't work well and is not comfortable for prolonged periods of time. Also if you got a bit more money I'd recommend a used gen 2/3 monocular or thermal.

      @@Raz_Tactical Thank you for your input and experience. Would you suppose that it may depend on the specific digital device for as to weather or not it’s wearable?

    • @Raz_Tactical
      @Raz_Tactical 2 месяца назад +1

      @@TrainToLIVEinTheTruth I've not come across any digital id want to wear. I've tried sionyx, pvs69, night fox swift/prawl and other Amazon units (they really have great return policy) and none of them are something I'd choose to wear.
      Essentially in any environment where you'd wear night vision to navigate you wouldn't want to use IR and digital struggles badly without IR illumination. And if it's bright enough to navigate without IR then I would prefer to use my MK1 eyeballs rather than digital.

      @@Raz_Tactical … Of course! If you’ve got analogs, you’re good to go. I’m talking about those who can’t afford that kind of device and can’t put themselves in the market for that. Have you checked out the NVG 30’s? I understand they’re not analog and never will be as good, but they REALLY are more than a cut above all others, I think. I’d love to get your input and insight on how the NVG 30’s do with someone like yourself who’s experienced both sides of the coin.

    Awesome comparison! The Prowl is defintely decent for what it is and the FOV is pretty comaprable to the NVG30, however the NVG30 defintely outperforms in low light performance, latency and overall clarity! Keep up the awesome work and thank you so much for sharing this info.

  • @oni_goroshi

    I've owned or used a lot of different night vision units over the years. Everything from a Cold War Soviet PN1 hand held unit to a L3 pvs14. I got a Sionyx Aurora Pro a couple years ago because it was the new cool thing on the market. Color night vision sounds pretty cool, right? Except it's not even close to true color. In all honesty, I wasn't very impressed. I liked the small size, especially compared to my Bushnell Equinox Z digital night vision, but other than that I didn't see the hype. Recently I saw videos of the Prowl and thought it looked like a decent unit. Then I saw videos of the nvg30. Holy hell, the nvg30 is impressive! I ended up buying an nvg30 and I'm selling my Sionyx. Just going off the videos I saw, the nvg30 makes the Sionyx pro look like junk. There's no onboard illuminator on the Sionyx. If you want an onboard illuminator you have to jerry rig one up using an ir flashlight. It's like the design was an afterthought. The picture is super grainy in low light. There's no real good way to head mount it unless you want to pay a couple hundred for some 3d printed parts and a mount, and who the hell wants to walk around holding nv up to your eye the whole time? The picture quality is better in the nvg30, by far! It picks up more in low light without an illuminator than the Sionyx. The color modes look really nice, especially the white phosphor mode. The onboard illuminators work really well. And it's made to be head mounted. Compared to pvs14s I've used, I'd say its damn close! I'm sure there are going to be analog fanboys who are salty that $450 digital night vision can perform just as well as a $3500 unit, but hey, it's the truth. People who denegrate digital nv act like a person who bought a BMW, then got upset that the guy in a Honda next to him got to the same destination at the same time. I guarantee if you had someone who knows nothing about nv and gave them a nvg30 and a pvs14 and asked them which one they thought was better, they would have a hard time deciding.

    Did you do the firmware update on the prowl? I had the same latency issues before I did the firmware update that allows you to click it into 60hz refresh rate. Once I did that, it's not near as bad. It's actually usable. Still not as fluid as Analog, but it also didn't cost thousands of dollars....

      I honestly can’t speak to that as I don’t have experience wearing two as binoculars. May probably have similar results as having duel tubes on analog night vision. In both cases, the FoV is typically at about 40-50 degrees.

      @@JacobRunner… Well, we already know these things are manufactured over seas and sell directly from their "cheap" websites and apps. Some people don't trust those for several reasons. Sometimes it's because of information selling, sharing or data mining. It may also take a VERY long time for items to be delivered. I've personally recently been burned in that way. So l personally would rather pay just a little bit more for the service of a local (American based) seller. And I prefer to also help out and support a local business. I’ve heard a lot of other stories from people here in the US that have been burned by a product not showing up… ever. Or the product arrives but later when there’s a default with it, there’s nowhere to send it back to and no one to help. That’s why.
