Pickleball Pros Zane Navratil and Jack Munro took on a pair of 5.0-rated amateurs in a match that pitted vintage against modernity. Navratil and Munro, renowned for their agility and finesse, wielded wooden paddles reminiscent of pickleball’s early days, while their opponents brandished the latest in modern paddle technology.
Jack Munro's pickleball journey began unexpectedly at the age of 10, sparked by a shoulder injury while playing baseball. This injury led Munro to discover pickleball, and he quickly became obsessed with the sport. Jack ventured into local tournaments and rapidly ascended the ranks, ultimately becoming the youngest 5.0 (pro at the time) player in the world.
Jack has passionately embraced pickleball, establishing himself as one of the nation's top pickleball prospects.
In 2023, Munro won the English Open Gold Medal in Men's Doubles with Rob Nunnery and followed it up with a Gold Medal at the 2024 APP New York event in Doubles with Mario Barrientos. Jack is also a member of the prestigious APP Next Gen National Team, a group of 12 elite players selected to participate in APP events across the United States and compete in international tournaments like the English Open.
Beyond his competitive achievements, Jack is the founder of the Longhorn Pickleball Club at the University of Texas at Austin. This club provides a platform for both amateur enthusiasts to enjoy the social aspects that enhance pickleball experiences for competitive players to travel and participate in national-level competitions.
Zane Navratil has etched his name in the annals of the sport's history with a resplendent display of skill and tenacity.
Affectionately dubbed "Gucci" by players and commentators alike, Navratil's moniker serves as a testament to his unparalleled mastery of the game. With over 80 medals adorning his illustrious career, Zane's journey from amateur enthusiast to professional remains nothing short of inspirational.
Navratil's odyssey into the world of pickleball commenced amidst a backdrop of varied athletic pursuits, including a burgeoning love affair with tennis. Introduced to the sport at the tender age of 10, Zane's affinity for tennis blossomed, culminating in a trifecta of Wisconsin state championships for The Prairie School from 2012 to 2014.
Navratil embarked on a relentless pursuit of pickleball excellence. Transitioning from amateur enthusiast to full-time professional in 2020, Navratil's ascent through the ranks has been meteoric, cementing his status as one of the preeminent figures in the global pickleball pantheon.
Beyond his formidable prowess on the court, Zane's impact transcends mere competition. A fervent advocate for the sport's growth and accessibility, Navratil traverses the country, imparting his wisdom and expertise through immersive pickleball clinics.
In a realm where every stroke is imbued with the promise of triumph, Zane's legacy endures as a beacon of inspiration for aspirants and aficionados alike looking to enhance pickleball enjoyment beyond their normal capacity.

Zane. Are you related to the Navaho tribe?
Subscribed👍🏻
I have a couple old wooden paddles from Amazon, "Amazin Aces". They actually have pretty good spin but weigh 10 1/2 oz. 😊
Everytime the pros win a point they have to eat an increasingly spicy pepper
It would be alot of drooling and snot though. Might be kinda gross
spicy eyedrops after 8 point lead
@@maxg5196why did you explain it like that😭😭
Pros play with an eye patch over their dominant eye while in a pirate suit.
This proves how insignificant the paddle is compared to the actual skill level of the player. And it should be taken to heart by all the folks who endlessly chase the "latest and greatest" paddle thinking it will magically transform their game. It won't!
Unless it’s the Zane Navratil proXR 😜
Actually you’re pretty spot on though. Raw skill matters more than the paddle material/construction.
There’s always at least one whining about people enjoying new gear
playing at someone at their equivalent skill level they would get crushed using wooden paddles though.
They only won by 6 points and the other guys missed so many easy shots
@@sethc2241 that makes my point..the paddle doesn't change the skill level, which only change with lots of hard work/time/drills
Nobody:
Literally not a single soul:
Jack Munro: Personally I'm a big throat guy
Those aren't just wood; they're Gen 3 wood. Listen to that glorious sound
Sweet spot paddle challenge now!
I would love a signed JM and ZN paddle. This was awesome. I think you should do one where the pros play w 20oz paddles weighted at the head end.
Ooooh, pros play with ping pong paddles. Or some other kind of object with a handle that would make contact more difficult
This my friend is my favorite one thus far. This has been a discussion with player's and their view is paddles have a big impact on winning with regards to that Jolla illegal paddle. Anyways my view is its the player that wins points, not the paddle. Yes there is a difference in feel and power in a paddle but if you hit it out or the net, it doesn't matter if you have a $10 wood paddle or a $250 paddle if you don't have touch and or shot mechanics. It didn't take too long to adjust as watching you two make good resets and dinks with the wood paddle. So ya, loved this video because you guys definitely proved me right.
My video request even tho it probably isn't fair is for the pro's play with their opposite playing hand. It will be fun to watch your commentary on the match. You're always making funny remarks and sarcastic comments which make great content. You're awesome dude, keep making these videos,
Tommy lee
Forget about the Joola Gen 3's. Make all pros play with wooden paddles!
So funny when Jack kept abusing his wooden paddle and would end up saying sorry to it or would get scolded by Zane. When Jack pretended to eat with it, I wondered if it would make a good rice paddle.
Video did not disappoint. Hilarious content as usual. This is my favorite comedy show these days. Keep up the good work.
Sumo suits with wooden paddles vs 2-3.0's!!
Best Pickleball channel on RUclips rn.
"I don't know what an RZ is" 😂 me neither man
Bruh Zane is too good
Play with the librarian ball!
jack's antics are my favorite
was this before or after jack got humbled by the black bears?
Have you already done a Pros v 5.0s where the pros have a larger kitchen?
Next video, Zane and another pro play with an eye patch on one eye vs 5.0s. Pirate pros vs 5.0s (serious idea)
What scoring format it this?
Pretty sure these were the paddles we used in gym class back in 2004 😂
can you drop a new paddle setup video?
Proxr needs to release a wooden paddle now 😆
Awesome using one of those would help me soften my game!
Thought it would be way more one-sided, tbh. Nice vid.
@4:05 can’t see his DUPR
Better footage than PPA tour
dang that thing is wiiiide, I bought wooden paddles too when I started but they are no where near that wide lol
I have an idea for a wrinkle in the pro vs 5.0s series. You can do a wooden paddle vs a wooden paddle with a rubber sheet glued on.
Better line replays than the PPA streams.
Pros have to do 10-20 pushups every rally they lose. And they have to start the game with 10
I don't think Jack lost a single hands battle that started relatively neutral. Crazy good hands
Play non dominant hands against 5.0!!!
Video idea: Partner with beginner vs seasoned players
Pros with just their hands vs 3.0’s
"Personally I'm a big throat guy"
Its not the paddle its the player!
what does RZ mean lol
great intro
Can you do a match where 5.0s play against Pros, but the pros don't get to wear shoes?
Too dangerous, possible slips, or rolled ankles
5.0s vs Pros where Pros can seriously injure themselves
As a I'm a barefoot runner I can assure that you are actually much less likely to roll/twist your ankles after getting used to move around barefooted. There are reasons that ballet dancers, gymnasts, ... don't wear thick sole shoes or shoes at all while performing. The hardest thing to do barefoot is stopping and sliding. I could never develop enough sole thickness for sliding, but I have seen barefoot runners who can crush small pieces of broken glasses with their feet and pretty sure they would have no problem doing it. I would say I'm about 80% in tennis and 90% in PB barefooted compare to having shoes.
@chubun6631 Yeah sure, but this is a challenge. Pros who aren't barefoot people that are always using court shoes are challenged to not wear shoes, they don't have developed calluses to "crush glass, let alone stop on a dime, they can't slide, they can't do many of the fundamentals that are required in pro/high level pickleball that's a fact. You also bring up running which is forward and back, no side to side movement as often, ballet dancers which are required to feel the ground and if they are wearing their shoes have a very thick and flat toe box, gymnast which doesn't require it, because you need more toe stability on the bars. These are not comparable comparisons and it requires an extremely niche and rare group of Pros, which I'm afraid do not exist in Pro Pickleball
@@BlGSac Totally agree. You will need to retrain the way you move. But once you do, you will be much more stable comparing to when you wear shoes. I'm pretty sure gymnasts will very likely to break their ankles if they wear shoes in a floor exercise.
Let the 5.0s use a super illegally gritty paddle
4 pros with a mini pickleball
pros play w wooden ladle
Pros can only hit backhands.
Bro needs to stop grunting
Not a fan of them hitting balls at the 5.0s butts. It’s demeaning and seems arrogant of the pros.
Play with a Franklin sweet spot trainer paddle
This will be too funny😂
I've done this with paddles with a much smaller hitting surface (like the size of an average palm) and we were actually able to beat a team only like .25 DUPR lower than us fairly handily. I think the pros would smoke them.
I think they've done that
@@tommyjenkins4107 No they have not
It's actually pretty easy lol
Pros vs 5.0s where Pros weigh their paddles up to a crazy amount
please this
must be at least 10oz
Pros play with one eye covered. It will be harder than you think
Watching the resets, dinking and hand battles w wooden paddles ....are you kidding ???Amazing !!!
I got Wood watching this video!
Had zero doubts how this would go (easy win)... but still a fun experiment for sure.
1:13 that valley girl voice though😂
I put 1000 dollars me and my partner can beat Zane and jack!
2 Ernies, 1 ATP and a fake hit in the same point? Wut.
Why is he grunting
Have you done female pro’s vs male 5.0’s?
It's never going to be the paddles.
Pros v 5.0 no talking/ grunting
This is really hard hitting content. Love it.
One time I was half-heartedly dinking to warm up with an overweight 70 year old (who is actually pretty decent at pickleball considering), and we were challenged by a couple super fit 24 year old tennis players who had only played pickleball a handful of times. They both had the same kind of wooden paddles that Zane/Jack had in this video, while we both had Electrum Model E's (this was 2022). We golden pickled them the first game, and they fumed "it's just because you guys have those fancy paddles and we're playing with this cheap shit!" So obviously I offered to switch paddles in a rematch. We won 11-0 again. I offered to mix up the teams. but they just silently walked to their cars. I've never seen them again.
15:45 Dude was so unmoored by his game-ending lowlight that his self-reflection afterwards sounded like he was speaking pig latin underwater with peanut butter in his mouth.
Put him on ewwww-icide watch until he reemerges from his nihilist brooding phase.
Do a video where every shot is a tweener like this couple just posted on youtube. It is funny.
Pros vs joes but the pros have to use the tiny trainer paddles from franklin or another company
Love how Zane makes the expressive grunts even when playing with a wooden paddle.
Zane’s moaning when he hits his puff forehand like he’s Nadal at the French. 🙄
You gotta go up to the net for the butts up, just so Jack can hit the ball over. lol
But how did the wooden paddles compare to the Bird paddles?
5.0"s play with Andre D resin applied to paddles. 😂
Would love to see a pros vs 5.0s training paddle video
Every two point the pros win they need to do a shot of vodka
pine tar vs sand paper grit paddles
Pros play with one eye.
Another idea: Pros vs 5.0's. Pros play opposite handed.
They did that already. Ben and Colin played left handed
Yo, that switcheroo, reaching offhand Jack hits at 5:32 is absolutely insane.
