I feel you on the state of our home. This time of year, outdoor tasks take priority. But the cold will come, and the season of resetting inside will be here.
I absolutely love your videos. A video just like this one is my favorite kind. It wasn't until you said eating salads and being hungry 10 minutes later, that it struck me as to why I find little value in them. Greens can be used in soups and stews, like you said, and provide so much more heartiness and nutrition for you. I've been watching your videos now for 5 years? maybe more (I started watching before you moved into the house you lived in before this one) and this is maybe my second comment. I really value the content you provide and it doesn't matter short or long video--whatever it is you want to talk about. You are one of my favorite content creators and I'm so glad that you are able to find time to still make videos. Thanks for keeping things real.
Seeing low waste meals is so inspiring. Your videos always bring so much abundance... . And , thank you for being so real. The internet needs more of that .
One year I had so much kale!! At first I made my favorite salad, and smoothes, but after a while I was sick of it. So I froze them. Barely ever used it. I need to plant more different varieties of veggies. And leafy greens. I love cucumbers!! I got one (1) this year😭
I have been learning about mushroom foraging for the past few years. This summer I found 2 puffballs in edible condition. They weren't nearly as big as the one you found, but for this household of 1, they were each perfect (and delicious)! Great video!
I like kale. The curly kale, one can take some leaves, sit with a small bowl with salad dressing as a dip! Squeeze the end of the leaf together, dip, and snack!
Oh yes that is pick me kale for sure. Yum. Awww that baby slug :) Good grief that was a heck of a gigantic cucumber. Oh my gosh those puffballs!!! So jealous. Now I want a guineau egg! I have chickens and duck eggs. And can get goose eggs occasionaly but it is hard and I love them all. Even teeny quail eggs. They make great pickled pop in your mouth treats. And yes unwashed do last up to three months and longer even in the fridge. I quite often when over run with eggs just put them in our second fridge in the basement like that to be able to use them. It is actually amazing that they can. Loved this and want a fresh from the garden scramble now too! hugs
Lol salad is almost never worth the effort for me either! I do love a good Caesar salad in the warmer months though! With home-made croutons 😁 Though, I still enjoy growing greens for some reason. A really yummy way to eat kale is to boil it, and once it's good and soft, you mash it into potatoes. You can fry a sausage or veggie sausage in butter or margarine, once the protein is cooked, and the butter is browned, you add a bit of water to the pan to thin it out. Then you have your green potatoes with your sausage on top, and the butter sauce on top of it all. Suuuper hearty and warming, one of my favorite fall meals. It's a Dutch recipe my family has enjoyed for generations ☺️ I hope someone here tries it!❤
That puffball is enormous. I don't think we have them here in Aus. A blog you might like is Fresh eggs daily with Lisa Steele . She is the craziest poultry lady ever . In the best way. That breakfast looks beautiful ❤❤
I love your stir fry meal with the kale and eggs . What a great idea and😊 I'm going to fix this meal also👍♥️ Can't wait to see more of your wonderful meal creations! I love meals like this out of the garden!!
I loved this video, I loved how you went through the produce and cooked it. The recipe it’s lovely but I think a bit too heavy for me to have for breakfast 😂... Are there foods that you buy? If so which ones? I’m so happy I found this channel... do you eat some seeds and nuts still? I love how everything looks absolutely perfectly imperfect and this shows us how much stuff at the supermarket looks fake.
I’ll be making a pantry tour video soon! I’d say we are around 80% or so eating what we grow/harvest here. Around 20% or so store bought. And thank you so much!
@@FairlyRooted thank you you’re so sweet! You’re so lucky to have such an abundance! It’s incredible! Lot of work of course but it pays off. I have a small garden and I have experimented to grow kale and other green in the woods... nobody goes there except foxes 🦊 😂😂
Edit : Sorry Amber , this below comment was meant for another RUclipsr on my Watch Later list. The autoplay went to your video as I was publishing the below comment! I’ll keep it for context in case you already saw it. (It was for a RUclipsr sharing about a new boyfriend and ppl got too opinionated) I know another RUclipsr who stopped talking about her personal relationships after people got too nosy and opinionated. I think that might be the only way to keep those invasive comments at a minimum.
@@FairlyRooted I have a zuchini and tomato plants in the garden , there very full but don’t ripe good, I think because of the bad and late summer we had Here . Can i ripe them inside off the plant?
Your garden looks so good! Why would kale be eaten as a salad 🤔 german food is specialized in using all kind of cabbage, it just grows well here. kale is usually cooked
@@FairlyRooted we eat white cabbage raw as a salad, but you kind of stamp it before and let it incubate. Its easier to digest that way and very yummie, seasoned with oil, vinegar and kummel 😋
I wrote down some of what I grew thankfully: Kaleidoscope kale, homesteaders Grex kale, purple island kale and the one I didn’t wrote down is a rare one, named after a man, most likely a European variety.
The laundry had me giggling 😅 my teenagers will just show up every few weeks with a mountain of laundry.
Yummy! And the new tattoo is beautiful 😊
Got that done last year, thank you! 🤗❤️

Oh gosh, thank you so much! 🤗🌿✌️
I really missed your cooking vids!❤❤❤
Lol the kale caterpillars hide so well along the stems, and they have the exact same color than the kale🙈
❤❤❤❤
I generally put Kale in soups and smoothies.
The big cucumber reminds me of a snozzcumber from The BFG. One of my favourite films growing up 🫶🏼
We love to add hardier kale into stews and curries for some extra iron. It's not my favourite but my partner loves it.
I like putting kale in soup. Or smoothies.
Your egg and veggie scramble looked so good. Makes me hungry. I love watching you in the garden and kitchen.
Thanks so much! 🤗🌿

I love seeing you cook . It doesn’t have to be a "recipe" to give us ideas . The scramble looked very yummy 😋 ✌️
Thank you 😋

I love salads, it’s my favorite way to eat veggies, because they’re juicy and sweet ... and crunchy ..l. 😂😂😂
Looks very delicious! Never eaten a puffball mushroom ,how does it taste?!🍽❤
Takes on the taste of anything you cook it with, so very mild! Very spongy.
I'm jelous !😅

Definitely can, I’ve brought green tomatoes inside before. You can also eat green tomatoes, they are pretty good!
@@FairlyRooted Allright, Will try that. I have so much of them, hate to waste them. Thanks
In the netherlands never put them in the fridge because of what you say. That protective layer stays on

Do you floating test with your eggs then you know bad , still eateble or really fresh
We eat them too quickly, always still good! If they sat for too long we definitely would, it’s a good test!
No never wash eggs and store them outside the fridge. You do right. Do you wash them before cooking?
Right before cooking I wash them.
Might be Russian Red Kale

Have you grown banana peppers ?
I have before!
@@FairlyRooted I love them
They look a little like pimento peppers.
Not a kale fan I tried so many times
