This drum kit sounds killer. Very clean tones, punchy bass drum. Everything a drummer needs to make music. Also, sounds amazing with the mics. Excellent review man. Regards.

This kit sounds amazing. I owned a seven-piece Sonor 3005 fushion which I purchased from new in 2006 in Sunburst Fade. The toms were 8", 10", 12", and 14" and 16" floor toms. The cymbals I had were; Sabian AAXplosion 16", 18" and 22" Stage Ride, plus a 14" Sabian Stage Crash. i played many gigs and the maple really made a difference, as the kit I had before that was a basswood Pearl Export 6-piece which I bought in 1996 also from new. It had Pearl 502 cymbals, which sounded rich and resonant.
I'm seriously checking out an AQ2 right now as my new kit as I had to sell the Sonor 3005 when I moved to Scotland two years ago.

Played a sonor aq2 bop drums ,they had it as the house kit, excellent, the standout for me was the snare drum.
oh Beatifull sound and groove!
Had a Sonor from 1969 till 1974. loved it Great Jazz set. quartet toi big band always ready for a great sound.. living in a Condo so aucoustic set is not a good Idea with neighbors. So switched to Roland but if I owned another House Sonor set will be first on my list.Of course nothing better to have the variety of Ziljians to make it. Nice video great sound.
Get the mesh drum heads and even cymbals. Good sound and tone. Not even a disturbing volume to a person in the next room with the door open. Check them out, get that acoustic again, man!!!!!✌️

Look what I ordererd today. After very long reading review, compared a lot of kits and brands. After lots of try outs in drum shop I ordered this beauty today. Can't wait to receive and unbox it. Oops, think I can not post pics here. But it is a Satin Gold Metallic Sonor SQ1 .... Yeaahhh!!!!

I've got my AQ2 set tuned low and 14 inch snare tuned high. The 12 inch side snare tuned low with lose snares. When you tune the 8 inch tom high there is to mutch attack and sounds like you hit him twice as hard. I like the rim shots of the 14 inch snare high tuned. I only have a little gel on my top. I don't know how it sounds when you mic it. That's the next step. Still impressed of the natural sound.

Because they are the best drums on the planet and there is a reason that they cost 6K more than the aq2
But still with some mixing the aq2 is suuuuuupper dope

Great review! Looking at getting the AQ2 Bop kit with an added 15x16 floor tom for our worship center. I do have a question... what mics are you using or do you recommend?

I seriously hope the SQ2 sound better. My AQ2 kit was terrible out of the box, the bearing edges were so bad I had to have them re-cut. The only way I could get the heads to seat was to crank the hell out of them. The re-cut solved the issue. There were also a few small issues with the hardware but nothing I can’t live with. Be aware, you’re getting a Chinese (or wherever) made kit & quality control is a roll of the dice. As always, you get what you pay for.
Great Drums can you do a video with the. Gretsch Catalina Maple and tbe same sample music. Thanks alot for your videos.

Hey yaahn, I have that drumset but the stock snare sounds completely different equal how I tune that snare. So maby you can explain what you did in Logic or other DAW to obtain that snare sound.

@@rkaylor5769 imo the sonor prolite or the SQ1 are the way to go. You get the sq2 sound at a much better price. But they’re still expensive but the SQ2s pricing are getting nutty these days.

Hello, Yaahn! Compared to your old armory studioease kit, how does this compare? Do you find more warmth since it doesn't have birch plies in it like the armory kit?
Hey there! There's some similarities like the smart tom mounting system, pure tone and having a wide tuning range.. There's also some HUGE differences like the wood as you mentioned. The german craftsmanship is like no other.. As you can see, I'm rocking stock heads in this video and the drums STILL sound amazing. Thanks for watching!
Hi just ordered the studio kit. 20 10 12 and 14. I dont gig and play in small space but added an 8 rack and 13 floor tom. I have to trigger and mesh head this kit with my 2 box module for a few months til I move into a house or rent studio space but What acoustic heads would you put on it tops and bottoms. You may be sponsored by Aquarian but I am open to Remo or Evans as well.

Racks toms are not 10 x 8 and 12 x 9 they are actually 10 x 7 and 12 x 8. No knock Yaahn. Love your vids and I own an Aq2 studio . Bought the 8 inch tom and a 13 floor to add to it

Would be nice if they weren't so heavily noise gated.
You loose the custom choice of the SQ2 going to the AQ2 but for a fraction of the price from my ear you dont loose any of the sound.
