Britt, for all us “old folk” in the room, it does our collective hearts so much good to hear you express a sincere appreciation for the acting prowess of both Jean Stapleton and Carroll O’Connor.
They ARE brilliant in their craft and magic together.
#TY
Jean Stapleton(Edith) was a classically trained stage actress. If you heard her speak in her real voice you would think she was almost British, she sounded so proper.
Very true.
She was also an opera singer
Her mother was an opera singer. Jean did musical theater.
Lionel brought the picture over that he had framed for Archie's niece who was staying with them for a few weeks, Edith didn't have an opportunity to bring it upstairs before Archie got home.
The episode that featured Edith’s experiences with menopause is another great one! Season 2, episode 15, “Edith’s Problem.”
Yeah, I commented about it above but I didn’t know the episode name or number, so I’m glad you did! I love when he gets impatient and screams at Edith, “if you’re gonna change, then hurry up and change already!” 😂
Jean Stapleton was such a great actress in this role as Edith Bunker...Carrol O'Connor went on to Archie's Place(bar comedy) and In the Heat of the Night(detective show based on the famous movie)
30 years in an interracial marriage and still going strong. My wife and I absolutely grew up on this show and still watch the reruns and just bust out laughing to this day. Yes, if Archie could see all the mixing going on. LOL
Just thought I'd let you know ALL IN THE FAMILY comes on Sundays 8:00 pm - 10 pm on ME TV Pacific time zone. There are 4 half hour shows
Archie's niece is visiting and starts seeing Lionel and the photo was a gift from not sure if it was from Lionel or the niece as thank you and it was left on the table. Archie and George Jefferson were against them dating.
The niece was visiting and being hosted by the Bunkers for a few weeks or months. Archie felt responsible for her and didn't know what to tell her father.
She won three Emmys for playing Edith.
The "Cling Peaches" episode is also a classic!
Speaking of “the change”, there’s a hilarious clip you should see of him when she DID go through it, and he was getting frustrated and screamed “if you’re gonna change, then hurry up and change!”
We would love to watch a whole episode with yah 😁 just throwing that out there. Great react❤
The picture was there because Lionel brought it over for Linda, Archie's visiting niece. Edith was going to take it upstairs to put in Linda's suitcase for her trip back to Baltimore the next day but got distracted by the phone and set the picture down to answer it. Then Archie came home.
I remember this particular skit like it was yesterday!!!!! So hilarious!!!!!
Don't forget Lionel is also the son of Louise "Weezy" Jefferson as well. I posted this simply because I wanted to mention "Weezy." 😉
It’s so joyful to see you enjoying this brilliant show!!!😂
I get as much enjoyment watching you having fun with these episodes as I do remembering them. Great reaction😊😊😊
Glad you like them! 😁
Carroll O’Connor played Chief Gillespie on In the Heat of the Night and he was just as good!
Lionel was Archie's neighbor but he was not Archie's nemesis. Archie thought that he knew how black people thought and acted, so Archie would get into arguments with Meathead about black people Archie would go to Lionel knowing that Lionel would be on his side. Lionel would inevitably clown Archie with Archie not knowing whether Lionel was being serious or not.
She was talking about George Jefferson when she said nemesis
@@MrKeychange Thanks for the corrections.
Jean Stapleton and Marion Ross (from Happy Days) played the kindly but homicidal Brewster sisters in a stage production of Arsenic and Old Lace.
so many good shows from the 1970s and Marry Tyler Moore show has to be on that list!
Gotta love that hysterical Archie Shuffle."AND THIS IS WHAT'S GOING ON!!"
You missed what Jefferson came over and said later to Lionel. No more crème in the Coffee. Classic
He turned himself into Ralph Kramden. haha
To add some context to people's comments about Jean Stapleton, she was also a fierce feminist and hung out with Alice Cooper in Studio 54 during the 70s.
When you dive into the background of the actors as people, it makes the show that much more impressive.
The menopause comment was based on an earlier episode that was very funny that was about Edith going thru menopause and Archie trying to deal with it. Archie is King of his castle but a menopausal Edith is a Queen to be reckoned with.
you have to watch that episode with the edith change thing.....classic
Their chemistry was amazing, they played off of each other extremely well. There is a clip when Carroll O'Connor (Archie) and Jean Stapleton (Edith) reunited on Donny and Marie Osmond's TV show in the late 1990's. Marie asked Jean to do Edith's voice, and she refused, she only does it for lots of money! Haha. Sounds obnoxious, but she was very classy about it :)
thats the episode u have to react too, with archie and Edith going through menopause. its one of the funniest episodes on TV
Jean Stapleton won three Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes for playing Edith and Carroll O'Connor won four Emmys for playing Archie.
What a match!!
I love Archie, wish more men were like him today and George Jefferson too
Archie and Mike become roommates
You should check out "In The Heat Of The Night" another show he did after this. It was a pretty good show, although not a comedy. It was on for like 7 years, and he played a completely different type of character.
"Theh sittin tagethuh on tha CAAAAAAAAAAAOUCH!!!!"
Hahahaha, oh gawd, you HAVE to see the episode when Edith starts going through "the change"... it's so damn funny! Poor Archie can't keep up with the mood swings.
The doctor actually prescribed medication for HIM to cope with it.
@@thomasmayk
Hahaha, typical Archie. Edith is going through it but HE needs relief.
That time he was stressing over running the bar was hilarious - his buddy gave him some uppers and Archie was lit like a rocket.
I can't recall which happened first, but sometime after Archie's "trip", Edith flipped her lid on him (don't know if it was "the change" or not) and threw it in his face when he was all pilled up at 2 AM and started painting the porch.
It's great when sitcom episodes can call back to small events cos it lends to the credibility and consistency., instead of rewriting history on the fly like a lot of shows do.
You should see the episode in which she does go through "That change thing".
You need to look up videos that have Jean Stapleton on a talk show. If you see how prim and proper she was, you'll respect her acting skills even more.
I actually met Jean Stapleton (Edith) at the luggage pick-up at LAX years ago and she was very nice and nothing like Edith! LOL. Thanks
In reality, archie was just the opposite in real life.
This is an episode where Archie's niece is visiting and she goes out with Lionel. The one that calls Archie "Daddy" is Gloria who is Archie's daughter and she's married to Mike aka "Meathead".
Jean Stapleton plays the polar opposite of Edith in the movie Like Mother Like Son. She plays tough business woman in this. It's also a true crime story
3:01 You NEED to watch the menopause episode, Britt....you're going to bust a rib laughing. ;)
You should check out *#SNL** (All in the Family)* skit
In 1981 -I dated an African/American woman. My parents were like "OK?". But her dad went Archie Bunker mode!
The niece is Archy’s brothers daughter, and she is visiting Archy. That’s why the picture is there.
The longer clip has Linda and Lionel’s response to Archie.
the neice made a short visit to queens - Lionel took her to a few places
Do the clip of Edith going through the change. You see a completely different woman. If you want to see her in a totally different character, watch the movie Micheal with John Travolta. It's really funny
Jean Stapleton was terrific....
@Britt Reacts Hi Britt!❤ LONG LASTING HUGS 🫂 AND LOTS KISSES❤️ Your voice is beautiful. You are beautiful inside and out but I want to know why you have those 2 knots of hair in the back if there were a little bit longer they could be pigtails I guess. And yes, Archie referred to menopause as that thing. God bless you and your family always
There's a clip where edith talks about her worth as a housewife. Its gold. The shorter clip doesn't do it justice. The longer one is much better.
Jean (eat it) Stapleton disappeared from the business after All in the Family. I was delighted to see her star alongside John Travolta in the movie Michael. I enjoyed that flick a tonne!
What the hell do you mean by "eat it"? And I hated "Michael." Sheesh what a stupid movie. I hate whenever Revolta pretends he can dance.
Archie’s niece has come to visit and is staying with Archie..Lionel and his niece are close friends and are out dancing …They both Lionel and Archie’s niece have a copy of the picture for them to remember there time together…Well when the picture got brought over emEdith accidentally leaves it on the night stand instead of putting it up so Archie can’t see it..See during those times people believed you don’t mix up the races…If you read one of my other comments about how people say there aren’t any changes today well there is just look at us now…P.S Lionel and Archie are really close friends even thought Lionel is black..Even thought they are close he don’t want Lionel messing with his niece because he believes you don’t mix the races…Wish you could see this whole episode because it would open your eyes on how much we have changed..😊
Great reaction, Britt!
Thank you!
Jean Stapleton actually got annoyed with fans who called her "Edith" or asked her to do her on-show voice in public.
Archie has a niece. His niece is going out with Lionel. Neither Efith ir Archie knows about this. Lionel comes over brings a picture to her. Edith getsthe picture and was going to put it in her suitcase. Her niece said no, that she is not ashamed of the picture and Edith envisions Archie's reaction what it would be like if he would see his jisce sitting together with a black guy. But before she gets a chance to pit the picture away, Archie comes home from eork. Then you saw ehat jappened. At the same time Henry sees a exactly copy of the picture and before you knos it, Henry comes over and is also madder than hell.. And so on and so in.
Lionel played by Michael Evans was hilarious and always got the best of Archie. He was replaced after a few years on the show the Jeffersons so Evans could work on the show Good TImes as a creator/writer but returned in later years. Good Times was also a good show and the youngest actor's role was also named Michael Evans.
Great character in The Heat of the Night series
If there any any clips of Edith going through menopause. You have GOT to react to that! 😂 it was hysterial
I'll check it out!
Great call on Edith. She does not get enough credit for her performance in this Show.
I strongly disagree that she never got "enough credit." She was highly praised by critics, laden with awards, beloved by her audience, and is still well remembered as being among the most talented actors ever on television.
You should watch the one where Edith goes through the "change"
You have to watch the menopause clips. It's a hilarious episode about a serious subject.
This show spoke about so many taboos that were just never mentioned before. It opened the door to being comfortable to start discussing these topics.
Menopause
Mixed couples
LGBTs
Sex after 60
The list goes on… anyone else?
All in the family forever changed the way people look at TV all throughout the 60s people were watching the Vietnam war on the news and then primetime TV was filled with goofy shows bewitched Genie Gilligan’s Iowa the Beverly hillbillies F Troop all silly nonsensical comedies the fall of 1971 Archie showed up, and TV would never be the same again, and many other shows followed suit discussing current topics of the top of the day they have never been mentioned on TV before all in the family is in my opinion, the greatest show History of television, and Archie Bunker is the greatest character in the history of television
@@michaelvandusen1297 Well, I loved F Troop. Hysterically funny.
@@michaelvandusen1297I could tolerate and watch the shows you just mentioned, but the one show I hated from the '60s was Green Acres.
Jr the one thing that is not ❤❤
You need to review where Archie defends his black maid at Ferguson market. It has shocking ending and N word
His brother is mentioned as living in Baltimore and the niece was visiting. Obviously, continuity wasn't really an issue in the later years of the show because in one future episode, he said he was an only child, while in two others, his brother visits and is now an alcoholic.
Trying to maintain continuity is always tough; another episode, Archie mentions there were three sons, and Fred, who was the one in Baltimore, had a falling out with Archie, many years before, so it's doubtful his daughter would have visited Archie. As for the alcoholic, maybe you're thinking of Edith's cousin, Floyd, who ends up leaving Stephanie with the Bunkers?
There was a whole episode on Edith's menopause to which Archie is referring. Watch Jean Stapleton in interviews of the time. She is nothing like Edith and she always refuses in interviews to do Edith's voice outside the show.
You should check out the entire episode of Edith going through the change. Archie almost has a short circuit.
Also, which I've mentioned to you.
"All In The Family" Archie Bunker On Religion Comments.
Also, "All In The Family" Archie Bunker Racist Comments.
Both are Hilarious so be ready for a good laugh.
Peace ❤
“Groin-a-cologist”
Interestingly, when Jean Stapleton (Edith) left the show, that was when the show went down hill. They tried to keep it going, but it no longer worked.
You should really watch the whole episode, because there are some other great scenes in it.
"Lionel Steps Out" (season 3, episode 5)
For a music reaction along the same lines as this clip, listen to “I Believe” by Blessid Union of Souls.
You should watch the All In the Family episodes with Beverly La Salle
Edith’s attempted rape was a more serious episode that is worth a watch.
If you thought his "rage scoot" was funny, wait til you see his reaction when he finds out Meathead broke Archie's chair and it's gone to be repaired... but, the upholstery shop loses the chair.
I dated a beautiful African American girl in high school in the late 1980s. He father was not happy a white boy was dating his daughter. He told me my intentions better be good and gave me a look I knew he meant it. He said to get his daughter home by 10PM and I always got her home on time. We switched schools and lost contact. Even then things were different we got weird looks from strangers. Glad we live in times most people are no longer weird about something that is none of their business. It still exists though sad to say.
@@MrMulligan81 Humans evolved to be tribal. Trusting people that look different, dress different, speak different was a good thing before civilization. Kind of like how humans see faces in taco shells and clouds. This ability made people run. If there was no lion chasing you in the tall grass you had a workout. If you did not see the face of a lion you were lunch and you did not reproduce/ have children and were a genetic dead end.
In todays world we can use reason to get past the old hardwired parts of our brains.
So funny. 😅
Hey Britt, in the last comment I made, I may have been a little hard on you. I do apologize. I have to keep remembering what generation you are. I am Gen-X and I remember this show (more in reruns) because I was very young when it first aired. I know these are supposed to be first reaction clips. But it would help to get a little background on a show or song before you see the clip. I know you are a mom and don't have an ample amount of time to watch television. Just Google some information or look up its Wikipedia page. You commented on Carroll O' Connor and Jean Stapleton's acting abilities. They were both awesome actors. When you see them in interviews, they are NOTHING like the characters they play. That is how you knew they were great. Carroll O' Connor in real life was a liberal Democrat. You would never have guessed it by the character he played. I am going to attach a link when Carroll and Jean were on the Donny and Marie show back in 2000. It was their last appearance together. Carroll passed away in June of 2001at the age of 76. Jean passed away in May of 2013 at the of 90. If Carroll were alive today, he would be 99 years old (His 100 birthday is in August). Jean would have just turned 101 years old January 19, 2024. Blows your mind doesn't it? ruclips.net/video/59DoVHKeFf0/видео.html
Brit you are adorable!....
Brit look up the Sound Track for Urban Cowboy the movie great music on that sound track
If you want to see Maureen Stapleton at a much different role, check out the short film "The Electric Grandmother." Its basic on a famous book.
Hilarious 😂
😂😂
"Groinocologist" = Bunkerism for "gynecologist"
Archie Bunker, and ALL the spin-offs, had us rolling for the whole decade. I honestly believe that through comedy, they all cooled the race relations in the U.S. . In South Louisiana in the 70s, a mixed couple would go through hell. By the 80s and 90s, nobody gave a HOOT. Wish we had relatable and informative programs today for kids and families. It's all whine, complain, hate, rinse, and repeat. My mother would have whipped the daylights out of us kids if we had used racial slurs against a person. Slurs were meant for books and education, she would say, so we'd stop being morons, everyone.
Well Britt told ya yesterday you should watch the series episode by episode to follow it. Your reight certain actors get associated with characters. Like Werner Kempler who played Colonel Klink on Hogan Heros. He said in an interview people always come to him on the street and great him as Colonel Kink. He said he loves it or Jonathan Harris as Doctor Zachorey Smith from the tv Series Lost in Space.. Ive seen Archie play in other series so he isnt at all like this. Edith I dont think ive seen her in anything else. The nickname "Dingbat" which Archie gave her always comes to my mind.
So Britt when are you doing some of the radio broadcasters Paul Harvey?? Hes done weekly ones for years. Begin with "IF I AM THE DEVIL, then "FREEDOM TO CHAINES, then LETTER FROM GOD"".there's no video it was radio but they lots clips here on youtube of them......... I'm waiting to see you become truley SPEECHLESS and I assue you that you will. Every RUclipsr who has reacted to his stuff become emotional, cries, is shocked..as u will be.
There´s some people on the picture 🤣🤣Oh really? tell me bout it
the neice was just for this episode
Back then dating outside of your race was looked down upon.
When Edith went through menopause she took him to school.
Jean Stapleton would not act as Edith Bunker other then the filming.
I watched this show as a kid. It was outrageously funny because of the awkwardness to say the least. Carroll O’Connor was so the opposite of Archie in life. He also played a grea t
Archie was definitely unraveled For a picture of 2 people on the couch inner racial dating. Lol. Same thing happened with the jeffersons Lionel Married Half white half black Not that that mattered George Jefferson Called her a zebra. Would you know or may not know In the 70s In particular people made fun of everybody including themselves And there were no half measures. I knew everything about the time. And TV was different as well.
I predict that in about 16 centuries from this post, we will be all one ethnicity. (That is my hope anyway.)
React to Archie at Stretch Cunninghams funeral
People don’t realize this was not that long ago. People get their shorts in a bunch over same sex marriage, and it was not long ago when people would freak out over the idea of races dating.
Jean Stapleton was the exact opposite of Edith. You shoul look for some clips of her, ,maybe in an interview. I KNOW you will be shocked.
It's not over sensitive to recognize the reality of toxic masculinity. Nobody said it's all toxic. But everything about this man is toxic. Being woke means knowing and caring for the struggles of others. What could be more Christian?
Part of an interview with Jean Stapleton about the show and their take on bigotry ruclips.net/video/ah2k3kyeqA4/видео.htmlsi=OdG3SCrQwzAgNDa9
Watching Archie bunker place Edith death scene
@@MrMulligan81. I hate when people drop mindless spoilers, but I don’t know if avoiding spoilers is realistic when someone is just watching an assortment of clips across 9 years of a show.
Now, had she been watching the series from start to end … that would be a realistic expectation. Even if she was doing start to end with a partial sampling of episodes. But zig-zagging across a handful of clips… That’s completely different.
Hi beautiful 👋
