I've noticed how simple and quick the stage setup is for him. It's really just his guitar plugged straight into his amp through a scaringly short cable and the rest goes to the stadium's speakers. This is what makes this unique feeling of what LiveAid was. I wish they made quick concerts like this more.
I think that was Stings guitar setup during the 85-86 Blue Turtles tour when he played guitar instead of bass
@@darrenhenderson3 And the Secret Policeman's Ball 1981
That is how all concerts are set up. The amp stacks at the back are fake, decorations. It all goes through a tiny amp that had been miked up
His voice is gold
La amazing
Like fields of gold..
I Love
@Pranish Khadka this guy? Lmfao he arguabally the best songwriter to ever live and he way ahead than axl rose , only that axl's range is better
Is a great song, but his voice is incredibly weak and one tone
The sax player is incredible. Warm sound, smooth melodies, great breath resistance. Paired with superb Sting’s voice and a cozy guitar as background… just wow.
Branford baby
Who was it?
@@mspjmason Branford Marsalis
Platinum
hes nowehere near sting
He's nailing C5s like if they were nothing. Very consistent tone on the high notes, golden voice.
Amazing
The sax just adds that killer 80s touch....instant smokey club vibes!
Waiting for the rest of The Police... >.>
Genius meets genius.
Amen bro!!
Nobody mentions then 25-year old Bradford Marsalis? What a lovely, haunting sax he plays. Hats off.
So good
@fiucik1 Sting introduces Branford at 1:47. Saw his brother Wynton live at Ronnie Scott's - another class act.
Are you deaf? Sting gave him a shout.
Branford was already a jazz star; Sting stole him, and Kenny Kirkland, from his younger brother Wynton's band. Money talks.
It’s the most beautiful sound. Thank you for acknowledging BM 👍
The only Roxanne I listen to
Same
Me too
boomer
@@Hammeremoji this is real music, Zoomer
@@samiamcas yeah i listen to all sorts of music from all times you closed minded boomer, why do you think im here?
The saxophone is sick 💟🌌☮️
Sting is vocal capacity is just above and beyond
That was literally one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen
The secret policemans concert sting!
tingles all the way up my spine; his voice is utterly remarkable, and the sax lick gives me life. Oh my, this is the pinnacle of musicality, and sting playing a guitar with six strings is a good look.
Indeed
Effortlessly done ❤
Branford Marsalis on sax.
he looks so comfortable infront of 100k people and live broadcast around the world to a record audience at the time, he even wore pajamas!
Haha he would rather have his shirt off I guarantee you😊
If The Police had of performed at Live Aid, it would have for sure gone down in history and they would have blown the roof off the place. Both Andy and Stuart were available and willing but Sting was only into his solo career at this point. Still, a great performance.
Ill have to look out for him - Sting dosnt have the edge he had with The Police - thats the result of having yes people instead of people who fight you for every inch - thats why the police were so good @Tom Cat
There’s no roof on Wembley Stadium.
Right?? We wouldn't be talking about Queen now. They would've been despondent if the Police were still around. Sting the ego has now gone on to be the undisputed king of forgettable soft rock. Who would've known?
Bob Geldolf thought about asking Copeland and Summers about a Police reunion but at the time they hadn’t played since March 84’ and the general public hadn’t known they had broken up so Gedolf let Sting have his solo moment
it would have been as legendary as U2 and Queen's performances... or almost
Underrated performance
Live Aid was such a monumental event. I was a senior in High School in 1986 and remember watching as much as I could live on tv in July of 85, and recording it on vcr for later. I wouldn't trade coming of age in the 80's for any other decade if I had the choice. What a time to be alive!
Someone should have called the police
Juxton Blend lmao
The Police will come if Sting singing NWA's Fuck The Police
I THINK I SAW REGGIE HAMMOND IN THA CROWD.
Lol 😍👏 👏👏 👏😍🤩 🤩👍 👍
Juxton Blend LMAOO
Sting goes to the beach and walks up to a rocky bit. Then stands where the rocks and the sand meet and shouts "ROOOOOCK SAAAAND!"
Good one! Very funny.
Hahahaha, good one dude good one
Rock lobster
Nice one 😂😂😂
Thanks for the joke Dad
Only 1.8m views, if this was written and released today in this arrangement it would have 1.8 billion views +
People forget that there were other bands and musicans than Queen at this concert
I was never a queen fan. Never thought that their appearance was anything special.
And of lot of them truly sucked.
@@Straitsfan Shows what you know. Or rather what you don't know.
@@gizzyguzzi Please, it was a concert. I thought Dire Straits was every bit as good.
@@Straitsfan Please. Watch all the bands that played. Most were mediocre at best. No one owned the crowd like Queen that day. No one.
He gave credit to the Sax dude mad respect 💯😎
the sax dude is as a big a star in the jazz community as sting is in pop
sax dude is Brandford Marsalis. One of the greatest horn blowers ever.
One of the greatest lyricist and musicians of all time in Sting.......and the greatest saxophonist ever Mr. Branford Marsalis( yes i have given due consideration to Coltrane, Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Oliver Nelson etc)
He's not singing music, HE IS MUSIC. Oh and don't forget the band ❤️
one of the greatest vocalists of all time - mindboggling his notes and power and perfection
What a concert that year, the very best of the best, MY GOODNESS! 😍
Imagine how sick it would be if the Police played these songs at Live Aid:
Message in a bottle
Roxanne
Can't stand losing you
Every breath you take
They could've hit the money goal by themselves...
You're forgetting So Lonely
Thar would be beautiful.... but....
True.Just imagine how powerful Roxanne could be if it was played by The Police in Live Aid concert.
@@edwinblanco-arnesto4461 I prefer Can't Stand Loosing You and I don't think they would play more than 4 songs but if they played a 5th than yeah So Lonely
I consider what they did exactly a year later at amnesty international to be their “live aid”
This is great version of Roxanne jazzy soft and smooth with Sting's diomand voice and emotional sax
35 years in a couple of days
Will never forget this day
51 now .........
I won’t forget it either. I am now 60.
What a beautiful rendition, and Branford Marsalis was amazing!
I love seeing all the positive comments on every video. Even an unenjoyable piece like this
The sax just adds that killer 80s touch....instant smokey club vibes!
His voice is gold
I listened to this whilst driving to Alton Holland in 1995. My friend lived there great times
Sting's voice is soooo amazing
Magnificent performance by Sting and Branford Marsalis! Bravo!
A musician who really feels, embraces life and its very humble…
My god the sax.... This is just the most amazing version I have ever seen.
Yes, his voice is amazing. And Bran, is great too.
Seriously, it's utterly ridiculous how insanely good this is...
He started off a bit shaky then got his bearings. His voice started to warm up. He signaled the sound man to lower the sax monitor just a tad and then Stingo ripped it in full voice.. A very difficult task indeed, to sing solo in a higher register like that in front of such a huge crowd without any effect on the voice, say for a bit of reverb. You can see and feel his confidence. A true professional.
No autotune needed..
You can't do over dubs if it's going out live on tv as it did sting SOUNDS on top form here and I'm not a fan of his
So lame without his band though. What a poof.
Autowhat?
@@chocomanger6873 not lame at all
@@jonasmusic8017 The man would be nowhere without Stewart Copeland.
Sting, he's someone i look up to. The music he's making, i don't really listen to it but, the fact that he's doing it i respect that.
Amazing voice & amazing sax 🎷
The sax just adds that killer 80s touch....instant smokey club vibes!
Wow. Just when I thought sting couldn’t get any better. Never seen him play a guitar.
Imagine sting being ur old teacher watching this and saying oh that’s my old teacher on the stage at Frigging Live Aid
37 years ago today and it's 2022. One of the greatest performance of the night and ya. The world is still effed up.
1:39 guys the sax player literally played the lick. THE Forbidden Lick. I'm dying lol. Love it.
underrated performance on live aid
Agreed
Not underated at all
@@shane-irish why do people misunderstand the word "underrated" it means it doesn't receive as much attention or praise is it deserves which is 100% the case here.
one of the best songs of all time. Sting is an amazing vocalist
Finally someone said it loud and clear
I listened to this whilst driving to Alton Holland in 1995. My friend lived there great times
This is probably my favorite rendition of this song.
Duet perfection.
Beautiful guitar and saxophone only version❤
This is best live version for me
Sting is one of the most underated singers, only cos he comes from an era of legends ❤
And because he didn't want the glitzy fame
@@selinathesmileyone he's not underrated at all sorry where did you read that?
Between this year's model in 1978 and blood and chocolate no one in the entertainment business packed the punch and great songwriting more than Elvis Costello. He has written hundreds of great songs since then. But nothing compares to these six years.
Phantastic, the way he uses his voice as a musical instrument!
By far my favorite rendition of the song...
The sax👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Would never have imagined a version like this! Beautiful!!
then ı give you present bro. Listen the policemans ball roxanne sting. Thanx later. Dont forget to listening message in a bottle :)
one of the most beautiful and emotional moments of music I experienced.. 🎙🎷🔥
How did I never realize that that is Branford Marsalis on the sax!!!
He played on Dream of the Blue Turtles album. (Englishman in New York, Moon Over Bourbon Street, etc) his effortless voicing is awe inspiring 36 years later...
he has such a high pure voice! it's so natural for him
That was awesome. Thanks for sharing. Gave me goosebumps. Liked!

STING !!! WHAT A PERFORMER !!!
Just about to cry. This was the first hit that The Police had, and he sang it even after the band broke one year before (my English is terrible I know it) it is like a goodbye to that years -sobs-
There are so many Live Aid lives... this might be the only one that is just "a man and his guitar" for the most part. I think this is the most impressive performance.
And of course Branford Marsailis carying the other half is impressive too!
Absolutely adore this version. 🎶👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🎶
This version is better than original 🔥
Brilliant voice!
I think sting is totally stunning in white. He takes my breath away.
Ufff Aid 1985 the best the best history concert this history!!!
Greatest concert ever it's like gathering all the Super Heroes for one show and that's it
He has the voice and the looks. What a hunk
What a voice Sting!
Sting is a gift.
Even though there are other performances like Queen and stuff, this is my all time favorite one of live aid
Sting always had plenty of Sax appeal... 🎷
W.O.W
And he’s still got it 33 years on
There is NO other! He is brilliant and so gifted!!!
Just imagine if the whole band was there, i mean all of the three. 🙌🙌🙌
OMG this was amazing, I saw it on the day!
This is a great version
Pretty good indicator of talent when you can strip it all down to a voice and a guitar and make this kind of an impact
1985 - 2018, still good voice...
come a long way from living above a chinese takeaway in newcastle ,,,,,,, but i have to say i like him ,,,,,,,,,,, great song writer and a true talent ,,,,,,,,,,,,,not Freddie but a great musician !!!!!!!!!!!
Best on the Saxophone...Bradford Marsalis...LEGENDS🤘🏾

What a voice !fantastic👋
Sting unplugged live a sea of people
With the pandemic and everything, some network executive worth whatever should acquire the rights to rebroadcast this event in its entirety this Sunday one day shy of its 35th anniversary. I sit in front of the TV like I was at the concert for the whole day.
Such a great idea !
His voice is legendary
Sting.... Never mind your opinion....Gordon Sumner always attracted the finest musicians to help express his music, from Branford Marsalis to Stevie Wonder. A musical giant.
Roland Jazz Chorus 120 guitar Amp. Classic sound.
Amazing, when talented not much is needed for a good show. 👌
The saxophone player is phenomenal
Purfect vocals 👌
I think this is the best version of roxanne
Watching in 2023 from Oak Cliff, TX ❤
"HELLO~" sounds like my lecturer entering class 🤣
Yes! Live Aid is not only Queen!
My two favourite bits from Live Aid are Queen and Sting hands down
