The story of Esau is by far the most perplexing thing in scripture for me. The reason for this is the fact that Jacob flees for fear of Esau and then encounters a man or angel(as in actual meaning of the word which is simply messenger) depending on translation. These 2 men wrestle all night until the one finally shows his superiority and then surrenders the blessing, which means he was the rightful heir to the blessing. Then Jacob sees the face of God in this man. There in absolutely 0 doubt in my mind that this wrestling match was between the 2 brothers. Also, later on when Jacob goes to make peace with Esau he told Esau that he saw the face of God in Esau. Esau has gotten such a bad wrap but i think there is more to the story than we see or something has been lost in our translation of it. While Esau was clearly a flawed human i think there is a picture of Christ in the story. I think Esau, was "hated", or despised, by God in the same way Christ was despised...for the sake of blessing a liar.

Do you have scriptures to support. Esau was the antithesis of Christ as he was profane according to scripture.
Hebrew 12 :16. Clearly Christ is hated because he is light and men hate light. Be very careful with what you are saying. Scripture in no way implies that Jacob was wrestling with his brother. Every scripture says the opposite and when he greeted his brother. He was basically saying he was so happy that he compared it to seeing God’s face.

@@CoffeeCrazy you know where the story of Esau is as well as i do. I was not wreckless with my words. I was sharing why i find the story perplexing....i didnt say anything that one should find careless. I am aware of the Hebrews passage as its what keeps me from sharing what i shared as more than something i simply ponder. So, Jacob is fleeing for fear of Esau just so happens to encounter a random man, or even strangeran angel, instead of Esau, and this random individual wrestles jacob before releasing the blessing, and Jacob sees the face of God in this man, but when he tells Esau that He sees the face of God in him later it is an expression of happiness over seeing him and then jacob turns around and lies to Esau and dips out on him. Like i said, im perplexed by the story and sharing about it. This is not careless. I wasnt referring to Jesus being hated by men, but that God was pleased to crush Him for our sake.

@@jasonm755 I understand. Thanks for your clarification. I think there is clearly a difference between Esau being hated by God and Jesus being bruised. Scripture never says that God despised Jesus only the men despised him. That it pleased God to bruise him is a completely difference meaning. Concerning Jacob, he was not running away from Esau rather to him. ch 32. he merely split his family lest something pops off. lol While in that place he has an encounter with God. Read Hosea 12 for more insight. This was not just a man because we know that supernaturally the "man or angel" could have destroyed him. How do we know this? Because we see that the man touched his hip/thigh and caused it to come out of the socket. This was not done by brute force but because the sinew was shrunken. No natural man can do that by touching. I think that Jacob was still skeptical or fearful of his brother hence why he went north but that shows that Jacob still had lots of work to do. lol Thanks for the dialogue.

Great Bible study brother. Really got me asking good questions. My personal opinion on the blessings about the nations: God’s blessing to Abraham says that he will be a blessing to the nations, and Isaac’s blessing to Jacob says that the nations will serve him and bow down to him. I see these as 2 prophetic blessings which go together. Jesus ultimately is the blessing to the nations, and Jesus ultimately will have the nations serve Him and bow down to Him.

Hi, I just found your channel and i am grateful that i need, i just finished looking this part of the bible and i cannot help but wonder, after all the betrayal and pain that had happened with Esau loosing his birthright, What happened to Esau on a personal level, how did he become so transformed that he became Jacob's protector later on? No one ever talkas about this, everyone talk about how Esau lacked self control and how he had an erratic personality, but no one ever really talks about what happened to Esau on a personal level even after those 20 years, becuase he was clearly still leaving with his parents even after that whole ordeal.
How was he able to bear looking at his Mother, Rebekah, finding out she was the mastermind behind the whole scheme?
Was it time or God that healed Esau?
What Choice did Esau make that made him twice as rich as Jacob in the name?
    What did Esau do?
I really think about this and see the whole story from a different perspective, because, i noticed a trend in the bible, of how God always chose the underserving persons to have a covenant with and he also provides the chosen with "Protectors",
    We see this with
    Abraham having Abimelech and Melchizedek
    Isaac had Abimelech
    Judah had Joseph
    David had Jonathan etc
When i read this story, I could tell that although they were both Human in everyway possible, Esua had to be rejected to be a Protector, the Protectors often need to go through some "breaking" to become protectors
    I don't know, i may be wrong
but the Esua we saw in the beginning, was definitely not the Esau we saw in the end and I really want to do what he did as a person to become this transformed individual, that saw jacob 20 years after and ran to hug him, was less Erratic, and more accommodating, to the point that the only reason they had to separate was because the land couldn't occupy them. How did Erratic Esau become harmonious Esua within a 20 year space

Hello, I love that you are so excited about this account. I give you my take. Lol. One thing we must first realize that the entire Bible is about God sending Jesus into the world to reconcile man back to himself and also a revelation or peek about who God is in the limited way that we know him. So , I alway try to study with that in mind and also take a few practical lessons away... Because the Bible tells us that ALL scripture is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness .........2 tim 3:16. Back to the Acccount in Genesis. Let’s see if I can summarize... Basically the gist is God will accomplish his purpose for his plans. God is sovereign and always in control even though we try to subvert his promises and plans. Let’s first look at Esau marrying women that God had already told them Not to marry. God had already judged the nations around and thus Abraham was following God’s instructions . Yet Esau failed to obey God by marrying from nations that God had already pronounced judgement against. Let’s also go back and look at Issac. He favored his son Esau. Parents cause a lot of trouble when they favor a child. Lol Here we have the father knowing what God’s Will was to be and knowing that Esau sold his birthright ,was going to bless(give him his birthright) even when God clearly was giving it to the younger son. Was His mother and Jacob wrong for deceiving ,,, hmmm I would say yes technically, lol because they were lying but even when Issac realized the deception, he knew at that moment that he could not subvert God’s will hence he gave Esau a lesser blessings. Yes , he does bless Esau, just not a birthright blessing. (Hebrews 11:20. ) This was done by the faith of Issac, not by deception, as he could have blessed Esau as the firstborn and restored his birthright. Now We can see throughout scripture that the rights of the firstborn was taking away and given to the younger, just like Jacob who was deemed the firstborn . This ties into Christ being the firstborn over creation. I don’t know how he would have done it had he not sold his birthright and I try not to ask questions like that anymore because God accomplished his purpose and promise to Abraham. Remember it is good to search out scripture but let God guide you. Don’t be so determined to try and find the deeper meaning as the Holy Spirit will illuminate it for you. Pray and ask for wisdom. I. In my 50s and every year I learn more and more. To the Glory of God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ.

Concerning the birthright, from what I understand, first, it was always Jacob's right from the belly. Secondly, assuming God had not already ordained Jacob as the head, the blessing was still not Esau's anymore after he sold it. If I buy something from you it's not yours anymore, even if it's not in my power to carry it at the moment. And we all know God knows the end from the beginning. Hence, the reason God made that pronouncement long before they were born. God knew that Esau never cared much for spiritual things, he was more fleshly. And Esau bitter cry was about what he lost, he was never repentant of anything he did. God knew all this from the beginning.

i Believe the prophecy from YHVH to Rebecca was because Jacob was YHVHs choice for the lineage of THE MESSIAH. And that YHVH sees the end from the beginning. Rebecca also believed YHVHs prophecy & did not see it happening without moving things to make it happen. And to me, it seems like Rebecca was helping fulfill YHVHs will & Isaac was wanting/ trying to bless the goat, YHVH was having none of that. i also believe it is important to note that according to Jasher, Esau was faint because he had just returned from hunting down Nimrod & fleeing his army.
