This might have been the craziest match I’ve ever watched. I’m a huge fan of Diego so I felt so disappointed and shocked when he lost having a point to go up 5-0 in the 3rd, but props to Tsitsipas. That diving volley at the end was something otherworldly.
If there was djokovic he would have taken this game in straight sets. Tsitsipas was 5-2 and he served for 6-3 but he did a lot mistakes. So he deserved to do the same to his opponent in the decider.
Those last 4 or 5 games after he got one of the breaks back were probably the most focused tennis Tsitsipas has ever played. He was just so deep in the zone, that no matter what Schwartzman did on the court, he had all the answers with total clarity, not paying attention to anything else around him. Not looking at his team, no celebrating at all, apart from a little racquet shake after the mad diving volley. Even after the matchpoint he looked like if he just woke up from a dream. Imagine what a great set of tennis it might have been if he got into this state of mind in the third set of his quarterfinal match against Alcaraz in Barcelona. He has a lot of haters, but he is really exciting to watch in matches like this. It was similar with Nadal last year in Barcelona, which was probably the highest quality best-of-three match of 2021 clay season.
Very accurate analysis of his state of mind. The problem is his father that distracts him so much with the coaching that he does from the stands. If Tsitsipas can get rid of him, and rely solely on himself he will get rapidly to No1 position. He tore apart Medvedev in last year's SF in RG, he returned from 0-2 sets down with Nadal in AO SF last year while playing with similar concentration. The only time he lost was with Nole in RG's final, but Nole is ... Nole.
@@georgetremopoulos9803 I also think his father is a big part of his problem and he should get another coach. Not sure about number one, but he can surely be one of the most successful players of the next decade if he can sort out this issue. He will probably be very successful even with his dad's coaching but too often it seems like he's more of a distraction than help, especially in the big matches, that don't go in Stef's way. I think he is already mature enough to move on from the father coaching situation, although I understand it's hard to tell your own family that you want to work with someone else. If you look at Alcaraz and Ferrero, they look like a dream team, the chemistry is great and there is no trace of any toxic tension between them. Tsitsipas could surely profit from a similar coach relationship that would be more on the friendly professional side.
Lol I've known Stefano's before he made it on tour back in the orange bowl days as a junior where he lost two consecutive finals. I told his mom "Julia" that he will have a very good career and will be a top fifty player. Well he obviously beat my expectations unfortunately fame and money change people but it's ok I wish him the very best. And I can tell you right now the father was and still is a big part of his success. The old man will never leave the team Stefano's is now working with Thomas Enqvist.
