Not only will dissimilar metals plus salt water create a battery, but if you add a few coconuts, you can make a radio. I saw the Professor make one once.
Yes to sponsorships if you can keep your integrity and keep on delivering quality vids as you have for all this time. Only you two know if you can do that.
If you both agree something makes boat life or home 🏡 life easier. Jolly 🐾 and I are all for the idea 💡 of sponsors. There's a lot of new enjoyable products that help everyone. Love William and Jolly 🐾
Monel wire is a nickel/copper alloy with small amounts of other elements. I've said no to cleaning products for decades. This might be part of the reason I'm single :)
Hey guys, another enjoyable video. Being former military, I notice things. First, when you are going to hike in a hot climate, please hydrate prior to your beginning, it will drastically improve your performance and stave off fatigue. Next, Nick get the pack higher on your shoulders, the higher you carry it, the easier the load will be. Good luck, and enjoy a frosty beverage for your hard work. Cheers!
I watch you because I enjoy your interaction and opinions. That will not change if you can make a buck off of sponsorship's. Typically I'm all for people making a buck where they can.
Should you say yes… absolutely! You are providing valuable information and entertainment while others are paid working behind their desks. Just accept products you would use or agree with yourself. 👍🏻
Yes to the sponsorships. I watch plenty of channels with paid sponsorships. If I don’t want to watch the ad, I skip through it. It’s not difficult. I certainly wouldn’t unsubscribe or not watch because of it. You guys put out excellent content and deserve to make money where you can, without judgment from others. Your loyal watchers will stick with you no matter what! Just keep it real!
The trick to removing the excess end of a tie-wrap is to twist it off with a set of pliers where it comes through the eye, it will give you a smooth , and not sharp end.
I like your videos, very balanced. They are not just hard core sailing or endless repairs, You do land hikes and other city visits that gives your videos a more mature view of what people want out of life when sailing without shying away from the realities and time consuming maintenance schedules of your boat to keep you safe. The point Nick made several time about safety wire shackles was detailed and important information that is often over looked.
I agree with Val. I’ve been watching for a couple years and almost feel like ‘our boat’ is coming. That’s the way I know I love the show. Stay honest and true to yourselves and your friends will stick with you if you choose to look at sponsorships. I would look at this as another level of success. Just don’t sell yourselves short.
Yes, but remember it is your integrity on the line. So only indorse products or services you actually have history with. If you do this you will get the funds to continue your great videos and your viewers will respect your choices.
From someone who worked in aviation somebody needs to look at lockwire standards. If you use zip ties use sidecuts with the inside V pointing facing you. Push the zip tie down with the sidecuts as you pull on the part to be cut off. when you cut the pressure should allow the tab to be pulled into the block.
If it's a Lagoon 450 you'll know when your stays are properly tensioned when your amas twist and your bulkheads crack. Constant loud creaking noises that are completely different on both sides of the boat are a good sign of proper stay tension - and pending disaster. On the serious side, I'd be a bit concerned about a catamaran that you can't properly tension the stays. Maybe the bulkheads can't take it. And plastic coated electrical wire can replace cable ties without causing galvanic problems. Solid core, not stranded wire wraps well.
Monel is a group of nickel alloys, primarily composed of nickel (from 52 to 67%) and copper, with small amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon
I’m a non-patreon, non-member viewer. I do most of the time, watch the RUclips-adverts in full in order to let channels I like have at least a few pennies. I find that, of course, I do like a video without adverts a lot more! Depending on how you do things, it can be ok. The Wynn’s adverts for example are usually not too painful tu watch. But still sometimes something to click over … So: Thanks for not having sponsorships and I do support that (morally). But since I am not a Patreon, I wouldn’t be mad, if you did.
Say yes. Pick your sponsors and maintain creative control. Choices may be tough to make. A sponsored 510 Signature for the same price as a 1370, not a tough choice but not likely either. Good luck getting good products and good deals.
Sponsorship: we appreciate that you’re not promoting sponsored products during the episodes. However, as a Patreon of your channel, we would completely understand and continue to watch and support your videos if you need to bring on sponsors. I’m sure they would be of the highest quality. Thanks for the great videos and story.
Among my friends there are a few people who put the effort in to find out which brand/version/type of something is best. This saves heaps of time. If you have done this, as you have with the Cat build, then being paid for an informed testimony seems perfectly legit to me. Flagging an endorsement is the honourable thing to do.
I hate using SS shackles and even worse the galv variety. You loose the first, and can undo the other. Whenever possible I use soft shackles, moving with the times if you know what I mean! Wire is a must.
Speaking as one of your Patreon's I say jump at the chance for sponsorship! 90 seconds is no big deal, you guys put out great content and ought to get paid for it. Thanks as always for sharing.
Sharing the beauty of the world, the joy of laughter (it even "cleans the unseen!") is a wonderful legacy and much appreciated gift you both create each week. Thanks for all the extra effort, time, thought, and hospitality that you put into your amazing videos! 🥇🏆
Thank you guys for yet another lovely video. I say go for it with the sponsorship. I have every confidence in your ability to embrace it in your own unique way without diminishing the quality of video or the insight into the thoroughly engaging dynamic between you two. In fact I look forward to your no doubt quirky/humourus/ guileless approach.
Watch you guys every week. Love your content, and your humor. Been a subscriber for years. Where you are now is gorgeous. Looking forward to "OUR" new boat. Thanks so much for sharing your lives with all of us.
Spent a week across the water from Hamilton Island in Canne Australia. FANTASTIC country. Couldn't have had a better time. Thanks for the view from the other side ;)
You can hold the paper with one hand and pour the water with the other.. or even push the paper to the side of the cup with a finger until the pour is done.. or.. put the bag in after ? ... (way too much thought into this)
Should you take sponsor $? Absolutely, I trust you 100%, you deserve sponsorship, you both are wonderful, creative, interesting, intelligent sailors and I appreciate you and your content. Thank you so much for sharing. Best wishes, and safe journey.
Re lower shroud tension, the ultimate requirement is that the mast must stay 'in column' when fully loaded. On our S38 the leward lowers are quite slack when beating hard to windward, but that's fine as the mast remains in column. When doing routine checks, I would add checking the nuts on the stern gland if you have a stuffing box type stern gland - having noticed an increased rate of dripping through our stern gland I was appalled to find that both pairs of nuts were loose (after being re-packed by Northshore this spring...). Your current format is great, without sponsorship - the best of any of the sailing channels I have seen - so keep up the informative entertainment. If you have to go to sponsorship - 90 seconds per week of the same product week would be a distinct turn-off; a different product each week would be preferable.
On paid sponsorships.... I signed up for premium RUclips to avoid their ads so, clearly I'm not a fan of advertisements but I'm not running away from great content because of them and yours is some of the greatest. (Heaven for me was you visiting the Wynns.) Anyway, my vote is that you do what you feel; most comfortable doing. You won't hear me casting any aspersions, either way.
I’d say yes to sponsorships. Find companies that you already support and then it makes it a more authentic message. You have a wealth of knowledge that not many people have. Because of that, we look to you for advice.
Had some of the best times on Hamilton. Thank you for rejecting the sponsorship offers, although I am sure the ads would have been hysterical. "Its not just a floor wax, its also a dessert topping!"
Yes I enjoyed your video and seeing the views from your walk. I just enjoy the variation of your Videos from walking a distant city, or wild life area, or climbing a hi peak and yes even you both getting lost for a moment or two.
I'd go with a BIG NO on taking money -- My website had banner ads for years and yes it bought me 6 Hawaiian vacations over the years BUT they owned me - Now I proudly operate several popular websites that have no amazon links, sponsorships, click bait, junk content -- Now, if occasionally you were featuring 100% marine content or testing out GPS systems, comms, that is another matter. OR (Like "Babish"...) have unique one-off sponsors for an episode. Don't try yourself down - don't give up your freedom! Love your channel!
First of all, I can get long winded on this question. So the short answer, why would you not say yes to sponsorship? i need to remind everyone that your production quality is on par with anything on network tv. Especially, show me a network travel show as well done or as engaging as your show. Your content is a good as the Stubbens (Nahoa), and you are much better producers. If you can stay in control of your content and keep "Bringing over there, back home to me" n, and I don't see a downside to sponsorship. It's working for the wins and their show has not changed much. I can see that hey have hung on to their patreon base, and for those of us that cannot afford to pitch in like that stopping to hear who is paying our way into your world is nothing. I already suffer through as much of the youtube's 15 minute ads on your show as i can stand, to try to do my part to keep you on air. ,I am always amazed that you can keep going on what RUclips doles out. for you guys its better than average, but still not your potential.
They're obviously taking sponsorship money... They only pose this question so you lot will say "yes do it" and they can point to that later on when people complain
Yip just take the money enjoy yourselves maybe increase quality and output frequency. Your not selling out unless you're taking money from human trafficking or the sponsor is breaking your moral codes in some way.
go for it , you have bills to pay and make sure you do take only things you can live with but beyond that its a thing saying hey heres this thing doenst push you negatively keep smiling
Another great video. Sponsorship? Definitely. However I would add a few caveats. I think others have said similar but my two pence worth.... The Sponsors you take on should be willing to accept negative as well as positive feedback, they could work to improve their product and therefore deliver not only the best product but one that is valued. The product should be appropriate also, this will then add value to all parties. It will potentially open up less experienced sailors and viewers to new ways of doing things and using tried and tested products that are recommended by individuals they trust (the two of you). I particularly liked on a previous episode what you said about Seawind incorporating the many recommendations you had for Ruby Rose 2. This shows real professionalism on their side taking into account the end users perspective and building that into the product. If sponsors take a similar approach then everyone is happy. Looking forward to the next episode.
Using a cable tie cutter tool will eliminate sharp edges; however, can't stop the UV degradation though. I'm thinking using a hydrometer (battery acid tester) to measure the specific gravity of bilge water might be a better way to go compared to the tasting method. There is some nasty stuff in the bilge water.
Hay what you call brenell wire in the aircraft industry we call lock wire stainless-steel wire you can get a pair of plies that will twist and cut it very handy to have on your boat
If you feel the need for extra money go for it! However, cleaning products are perhaps not as exciting as a good beer! Time stamps so we can jump past the cleaning going directly for the beer is my proposal!
Terysa, first off, thanks for creating content that is actually enjoyable to watch. If you didn't create stuff that was enjoyable, I wouldn't, and in a couple of cases, didn't watch your videos. But, for the most part, I do enjoy them, they are well put together, fun, and I love the interaction between you two. Even with hearing aids, as I get older, I find it harder and harder to understand people, and there are times when I can't understand a word Nick says (no offense, Nick, it's me, not you). As to sponsorships. I've seen some pretty good sponsorship bits in videos. Dylan O'Donnell, another Aussie, does some great stuff for his sponsors, and he does astrophotography. I think Jason and Nicky do all right with their sponsors, also. My two cents is, if you like the sponsor, believe in their product, and are true to yourself about what you say about them, then you an fel good at the end of the day about having a paid sponsorship. If you can't, in your own heart, feel good about it, then don't do it.
Why not? A lot of people turn to RUclips and the like to get away from the constant barrage of commercials on cable TV, at least in the US. But, creating video entertainment isn't free. Having a sponsor that helps you provide content is fine if it's a once per episode thing that's not too long. Your viewers are a relatively sophisticated lot and understand how the real world works. I say go for it!
With the “amazing condition”, do I recall you saying that there is no working wind instrument or no working depth sounder? Surely that’s no more correct than wha5 you saw with those shrouds; I agree with your view on that btw.
Qeustion: As to the Rigging Tension, I get the Use your hands and give a pull you get the feel for what is tight and what is loose, is there an actual Book that gives the actual numbers for what Rigging tension should be? Also I saw a video use a tool that would show the actual Tension of Rigging, have you heard of this and is it every sailboat should have?
Not only will dissimilar metals plus salt water create a battery, but if you add a few coconuts, you can make a radio.
I saw the Professor make one once.
Yes to sponsorships if you can keep your integrity and keep on delivering quality vids as you have for all this time. Only you two know if you can do that.
Thanks mate! That's kind of why we say no to a lot of them (ie, cleaning products!). We don't feel that it's inkeeping with our authentic content.
If it is about sailing why not.
If you both agree something makes boat life or home 🏡 life easier. Jolly 🐾 and I are all for the idea 💡 of sponsors. There's a lot of new enjoyable products that help everyone. Love William and Jolly 🐾
I totally agree about the cable/zip ties. Only good for short term or temporary use.
I'll use a zip tie for a "permanent install" with computer hardware setup & not much else.

I love your vibe no matter what. I like how the Wynn’s do their sponsorships so if you can mimic those, it would be fine!
Even though I am not trapped in my apartment anymore, I still love that you share your travels with us! Thank You!
Thanks so much mate. Glad you’re free!
Thanks for showing so many closeups of the vegetation on the hike, that adds so much to the experience. Great video as always.

There are CARAMEL TIM TAMS????? You guys have everything great in Australia. Also, ticketyboo may be my favorite word Nick says.

I love you guys. That episode was refreshing. It shows us a glimpse into what a boaters life might look like….
Nick always has a proper fix for everything! 12:39, how do you keep the label from being pulled into the cup, always hate that!
I know!
@@sailingrubyrose you wrap the string around the cup handle before you pour the hot water into the cup.
I always tie it around the cup's handle, like Grandma taught me.

My take: British tea bags - they don't have straps but just dive into the water!
Tea pliers are recommended to retrieve them!
No worries about sponsorship. I’d like more tech time with Nick, or a guitar interlude. And of course anytime spent with the lovely Tyresa is welcome.
I always enjoy your episodes!! The hike was brilliant!

I did enjoy this video and I am impressed with the boat as a charter boat, it looks brand new, so that's really nice!
It’s in really good condition, I think it’s a few years old
Beautiful hike and views. Would be interesting to get a closer look at some of the obviously very expensive homes on the sea cliffs.
Long as Nick will continue his brutal and proper Critiques i am on board.
Beautiful hike. Thank you for another great episode!

Thanks so much Gary, love hearing this feedback 😊
Always enjoy Nick sharing his wisdom and or humor is priceless
I can see that Nick likes hikes just as much as I do!
LOL!! Love the ending!! That was awesome! Cheers!
As long as you like the product. The it’s not a problem.
Are they something you use and would recommend? Then I can see it. Otherwise, if you can get by without doing them, that is great.
