Snorkeling the GREAT BARRIER REEF | Green Island vs. Fitzroy Island

The end of Week 17 of our World Trip brought us to Cairns, Australia - where we were able to snorkel the GREAT BARRIER REEF! Although our GoPro might not have performed as well as we wanted it to, the experience itself was incredible, and it was hands down the best snorkeling we've ever done! First time seeing a video of yours. Guys this is great!! A really good overview and comparison of both islands, and fun! I have a GoPro Max, and it's not designed for underwater footage. The 360 design of the lenses is just not suited to underwater (but your faces did turn out well!!?!). I've seen really stellar underwater snorkeling footage from the recent Go Pro heroes (11 and 12). Olympus underwater pocket cameras are also very good, not sure if hero 12 just might be better overall (stabilization cannot be beat).. pros and cons for both though. Olympus is very reliable. Appreciate your efforts to go back and get the footage it's super helpful if someone can only choose the one island. Anyway well done and happy travels!

I’d grab the Olympus TG6 or 7. Bought a go pro and it died after one use. Olympus is still going strong.

What I recommend between the two islands? We will be travelling with 3 year and 7 year old kids … first time at Cairns .

Hey! Our personal opinion would be Green Island because it wasn’t as rocky, there’s a long ways you can walk out where it’s shallow, and there’s a pool with snacks if they get tired☺️

@@RaarupAdventuresHello! So you took all this footage in one of Australia’s summer months? I was in Queensland in August and I had planned on going to Fitzroy island, but the seas were too rough that day, so I canceled😢👎🤷‍♂️ I still had several good days snorkeling & diving the outer GBR. I also went to Fiji later that month and then Hawaii in Sept. Have lots of videos and pics from those excursions, but i’m pretty disappointed with many of them too!!!🤷‍♂️
