Very nice job on the review Mike. This is a film that I need to give another shot one day down the road. It's been a long time since I've seen it.
King Kong Lives was the first King Kong movie I have ever seen. I was I believe 7.
Hang on to that DVD . It's going for a bomb these days. I too grew up with this film. If you grew up in the mid 80's to early 90's, it was inescapable. It was on monstervision and every creature feature show on TV. Guaranteed to have been on either a late Friday night or a Saturday afternoon Matinee back in the da. I like it better than the 76 remake. Not as bad as everyone says that it is
I plan on hanging onto this DVD period. As you can see in this review I have fun with this daffy b-movie.
Pressfield has also told a story about how this got made. He and Shusett were meeting with Dino about something else, and he kept complaining about how he wanted to do something else with Kong, but the character was dead. Shusett joking said "Easy, heart transplant." And Dino said "Great, write it!" XD
Mike I didn't mind the 76 remake and I have seen parts of this one, I've watched the ending which sort've has the same ending as Spartacus, they're very similar in tone. How good is the quality of that DVD version you have? I have a Blu Ray with a 4K upscaler so most DVDs look good on my t.v. including the shitty ones!
The quality I thought was pretty good for the DVD. My blu ray player upscales most DVDs to 1080 and this looked pretty great.

I saw this on video when i was 9 and thought it was quite bad and poorly written and an unnecessary sequel to an alright remake
We agree to disagree. I see why you think it's bad and poorly written. But I get a decent amount of enjoyment and fun out of this one.

I know this particular King Kong is cheesy and all but I've actually been looking for this movie because nobody ever talks about it anymore and you never see it for sale either and to be honest I almost forgot about it for a while but I absolutely still love this movie and have been wanting to watch it again . Yeah yeah I know not very good special effects like the awesome new ones have but King Kong Lives is more special and sentimental to me because I grew up watching it more than once mind you , therefore it is more of a special childhood movie to me but if you didn't grow up watching it and it has no sentimental value to you then , yeah , sure I get it but as for me I will always love this film and besides I didn't know anything about special effects when I first watched it as a kid in the 1980s so I didn't know any difference and to me it looked real as hell to me lol 😆👍👍👍

and true they should did this one at least 2 years later with at least the same production value costs and returning of Jessica + Jeff including a happy end in wich at the end they b.. Kong in healthy condition back to the island and let him live free again, my idea my opinion. King Kong Lives (and dies again hahaha) is a insult to the 76 masterpiece version
King Kong Lives is the worst King Kong movie ever made. It has horrible special effects, horrible scripting, and horrible everything. I highly recommend that you do not watch this movie. I recommend that you go watch the original King Kong or the 2005 remake with Jack Black.
the 2005 film is byfar, the worst Kong film ever made, bloated and totally miscast. KING KONG LIVES is a masterpiece by comparison.
Evrrytime kong roars in the movie he sounds like a broken whashing machine.
