- I can't believe it's been 40 years since the release of the Dino De Laurentiis produced King Kong, starring Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange. It is a very unique take on the giant ape, and also one of my first movie memories. Here's my special 40th Anniversary review. Enjoy!

I absolutely adore King Kong 1976: it is the scariest, darkest, most thrilling, dramatic and heartbreaking of all versions. I saw it at age 6 in early 1977 at the movie theater and it made a huge impact on me. In later years I got to see the 1933 original and, while enchantingly old, it did not make me feel what KK 1976 made me feel. In 2005 I saw Peter Jackson's version and was really disappointed in that film because I felt nothing from it. So yeah, 1976 is and will always be my favorite.
I agree 100%!!! Same experience!
Jose Gabriel Gutierrez same here my guy
I totally agree 76 best Kong film
X ke esta versión de 1976 jamás ha estado disponible en iTunes
Great review. This is one of my favorite Kong movies. It was the first one I saw when I was a kid (maybe 5 years old) on DVD. I loved it then. I don't remember thinking too much of the gore or how creepy Kong was when I first saw it. Now that stuff is more apparent to me. Monster movies during the 1970s were graphic! I'll always remember being impressed with the fight with the giant snake. Seeing it's jaws ripped open as a kid was fun. I think this is the most underrated Kong movie. It is dated. The special effects and unfortunately the World Trade Center climax do date it, but I still love it. I like the cast and the score. It was a good update of the story.
Eric Moss Man this movie is the definition of nostalgia for me.
this is a great review, and this is my personal favorite version of Kong
Thank you!
I feel exactly the same as regards this movie, and still enjoy it to this day. Nice work.
Yeah I still revisit it from time to time...warts and all.
I don't see any warts...my first movie seen at a theater and life changing!!
Drumdrums..... Great review, i wish i could experience this one of the 70s best at the big screen today
A good friend of mine he’s in his 70s His name is Vance Blalock he helped build the Kong and did the city scape in Man Hunter the original Red Dragon.
Makes sense since both movies were produced by Dino DeLaurentiis.
love this king kong, rick baker was great, kong in the 33 version was taking off fay wrays clothes also dont forget. i was 4 years old when i have seen this in the theater, i do remember.
Saw it myself at some theater in Garfield heights sometime around my young age of 13 or 14.it was on a double bill with orca the killer whale.
To awnser your question it was 1967s doctor dolittle saw it twice that would have been me at the age of two as I was born in February 1965
This film is a classic
Hell yes it is.
I loved it.
One of my favorite childhood movies.
Though I wasn't born anywhere close to 1976 I heard of a time when this movie first came out and sort of flopped as the critics complained it had a dumb plot and stuff.but it's one of those movies that end up being a true masterpiece 10 years after it realeases.
I was born in '73, so right before this one really.
It far from flopped...it was a box office smash and the second highest grossing opener at the time behind only Jaws.
And 3 Oscar Academy awards nominations. It won for visual effects and Jessica Lange won best actress Golden Globe award!!! It had a good box office too
This was the scariest version of Kong. The fact that you can see Rick Baker's actual eyes is creepy; the teeth & how expressive the brow was.
Completely agree!
At 3 years old I fondly and surprisingly vividly remember going with my folks to the movie theater in 1976 to see it!! My first live action non animated film I ever went to and I was hooked on Kong and movie monsters from that day forward!!! In my opinion it's by far my favorite of the king Kong films.
I just preordered the Shout Factory release that's coming in May. Can't wait!
Logan's Run and King Kong in the same year. Life was good.
I saw King Kong 76 when I was 12 years old and I still love the film today. I agree, John Barry's sound track was amazing
Yep. It still holds up quite well thanks to the great cast/performances. And Barry's beautiful and haunting score.
Yeah I saw this when I was 11, I love it. I also liked king Kong lives. They are both guilty pleasures for me.
I always forget about KKL until someone reminds me. It's a fun watch for sure.
Totally agree!!!
King kong lives is very unrated
Hey The Dino De Laurentiis King Kong (1976 version) is going to be out on Blu Ray from shout factory/scream factory this spring!
To me Kong 76 is still the best Kong out of all + maybe the best John Barry (many 007 movies or Dances with Wolves) score so RIP great John Barry
Agreed. There's something so haunting about this one. Very well done and love Barry's score so much. Thanks for watching!
Drumdums you are welcome thank you for your great review of this true epic movie, i still get (48 born. 1969 one week before Apollo 11 landing on moon) scacerd with Kong in this movie the first scene Kong at night standing and looking at Jessica than roaring at her or hunting her and Jeff to the great wall Kong 76 roar to me is still the most violent and loudest and the Nr 1 monster roar in the movie history my opinion, Nr 2 JURASSIC PARK T-REX roar, as a teenager i did still thinking this Kong is a full size roboter (Dino De... wish), to me is PJ Kong 2005 the second best but the different between both Kongs are 76 is a monster ape like kong as it should be Kong 2005 (thanks PJ buhhh) is only a XL silverback gorilla that sucks, and we are ignoring the stupid part 2 in wich even Kong looked and acted different, to me ist King Kong 76 John G. best movie the second the Towering Inferno 1974 two years before this, by the way, Peter TRANSFORMERS Cullan created Kong roar with his own voice in KING KONG 1976, Dino D. promis... at end of my movie (killing bloody Kong scene) you will cry as audience, it was very sad, i love the change in here with WTC instead of Empire State Building, i was sommer 1995 at the north or south Tower can't remember and now this movie after both Towers sadly gone makes King Kong 1976 even a bigger film classic, the other example of Twin Towers in movies my favorite John Carpenter movie Escape from New York snake landing at WTC
It's nice that you chose to review this nostalgia-inducing film on its 40th anniversary. It's fortunate that RUclips didn't exist back in 2001, because it would NOT have been fun to review this film on its 25th anniversary.
Excellent review!!! I saw Kong for the first time in the movie theater by myself. You hit the emotions right on the head. . excitement, terrifying, laughing and sad. Thanks so much for the review!!!
I'm so glad that I got to review this. It's a childhood favorite. I love it so much. You got to see this in the theater?! So jealous!
My first film I saw at the movie theater with n 1976!!! Changed my life!!!
Terminator 2 judgment day and Robocop was my childhood
Hell yeah. I saw Terminator 2 in the theater opening night!
I watched it on TV with my mom I was 4 or 5 years old. I was scared but still very interested in watching this. The part I remember most still is hearing his heart beat slower and slower til it stops. I ran into the bathroom and bawled my eyes out. I thought it was real. Most of the movie dialogue went over my head so all I related to Kong.
It still bothers me to see the ending of that movie and I'm 51 now. But now I understand the plot much more. And ya the effects don't really stand the rest of time but I can look past all that be ause this was my first real movie that drew out that kind of emotion. For a very young boy to sympathize with that animal is where I believe I got my love for animals from. It effected me that much. Glad I found you here. This really takes me back and all the memories mom and I made while watching this movie. Popcorn fights etc. Thank you .
Yes that heartbeat scene always sat with me. Heart wrenching.
This is actually my favorite version 👍🏻
Me too man!
Same here !
Yep me too, my favorite!!!
I'm 19 and just discovered this flick! It has many faults, but none of them bother me. It's so charming! And the score is just breathtaking!!! Glad you brought it up!
Yeah it's one of my favorite scores ever. So moving. I used to go on the Kong ride at Universal that was based off this movie back in the day. The ride caught on fire and they closed it down. I miss it.
John Barry must have been an unexpected choice to score this film I reckon? I've now listened to some of this other stuff and it's equally enthralling. That ride seems cool, wish I could have experienced it myself.
Hey, I'm wondering why this movie get SO much hate. It does have certain qualities that a lot of folks seem to look past. Too bad theres so little to study out there about the production, like you basically said in the video.
Adrian Vaughn you should listen to his song across the sea of time
@@ryanavery8174 Thanks for the tip Ryan 👍 Haven't heard of that movie or it's soundtrack, but ALWAYS in the mood for some John Barry!
Adrian Vaughn your welcome he's my favorite movie composer of all time have you heard his music from out of Africa
Hey Lee! Wow, I was so excited to see you reviewed the 76 King Kong.
I actually saw it in the theater when it came out, I was five years old.
It made a major impact on my life. I had the King Kong Lunch box , which I loved! During lunch at school I would just stare at all the pictures on it over and over.
My favorite scene in the movie is Kong escaping his cage in New York with Dwan looking so beautiful and glamorous infront of him. LOVE IT!
And, the end is one of the most heart wrenching scenes for me. Hearing his heartbeat slowly fading out. Its a tragic love story. And it also tells a story of sometimes what you wish for isn't always what you want . Dwan got her dream of being famous, but it was at the cost of Kong life.
I still to this day will Google images of Lange in the silver sequined dress from King Kong, lol. I think she is so beautiful.
I remember seeing those lunch boxes. I’ve always been obsessed with this movie. Even went on the ride at Universal back in the day.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews i wish I had went to the old King King ride. I've been to the newer one. :( Its all screens of kong fighting. A big let down.
the f/x maybe outdated...but, the cast (mainly, Jessica Lange), the score, the storyline...all those and others just elevate this movie and make it lasts even til today. My second fave Kong movie, after the 2005 version.
I remember seeing Kong come out those massive wooden doors and falling into the vat of fog. He seemed so massive to me. And that score by John Barry is so haunting.
One of my favorite movies of all time, my mom bought me the vhs for me, she also got me King Kong Lives, the sequel, both movies are dear to my heart still love those movies to this day :-)
1/16/23
Yep. So many great childhood memories of this one.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews 😉✌yes
Great review as always!!! And the very first movie I remember watching...constantly..was A League of their Own...with Geena Davis, Madonna, Rosie O'Donnell...I LOVED that movie so much and prolly watched it every single day as a child for wat my mom said was a whole year lol....it was very well made and even today I love it and it brings back great memories...it's just one movie I will more than likely make my kids watch wen I have some!!! 😎👌❤️
"There's no crying in baseball!!!" Haha love ALOTO. Brings back some great memories.
Drumdums I know it was so funny sad and crazy all rolled up in one great movie!! 👌
Jaws was the first movie I ever watch second star wars I will never forget those great movies as a kid who loved horror and action
Jaws was one of my earliest too. Still a classic!
I just found this review now. :) (I like your channel and subscribed)
I don't remember the very first movie I went to see in a theatre. However, I do know this version of Kong was early on. I think I was 8 years old when my mother took me. I was just getting into giant monster flicks, and had just seen "King Kong Escapes" on TV, so I really wanted to see this when it advertised on TV. I still have a collectors mug. LOL
I remember I really enjoyed it, but my mother hated it.
Thanks for watching man! Yeah this one brings back so many memories. Love it immensely for the score, Jessica Lang, and Kong!
Barry's score is gorgeous! One of my favourite film scores in general. I had the CD for many years, then just recently found the full deluxe version and downloaded it.
Philip Chandler Indeed. One of the most emotional and haunting scores I've heard.
Philip Chandler , my dad found it boring, but I found it surpassed the original. I hate all the unnecessary hate and bashings this film is getting.
Love this movie! Jessica Lange is a goddess in it. John Barry always delivers with his soundtracks. The Poseidon Adventure is my first movie memory.
Man John Barry's score gets me every time.
Always loved the 1976 version since it was the first Kong film I had ever seen
Same. This was right in my childhood (I was 3 when this came out). I've always been fascinated by it.
I had the posters from that movie. I saw it at the theater on Boxing Day 1976.
My deep nostalgia flic is PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE. That movie is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year. YIKES! I was a kid when I first saw it.
I've been meaning to check out Phantom of the Paradise. Huge DePalma fan.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews I think you'll like it. Not long after seeing it, I discovered that the villain of the flick is someone, whose songs I've heard sung by Three Dog Night, the Carpenters etc . Brilliant bit of ironic casting by Brian!
i love this version! used to play it over and over again on bootleg VCDs in early 00s, just before Kong 2005.
i personally think people are being too harsh to this movie. its 1970s, but most people today judge the movie with 2010s perspective, its a bit unfair... the ape suit is a massive leap from Showa Godzilla v Kong and i could not believe how that movie received a more welcoming embrace today than Kong 1976.
PS Jessica Lange is 😍 in this movie, the hottest one out of 3 major Kong movies
All of this!!
The 40-ft. mechanical Kong isn't onscreen for even a minute. Maybe 12 seconds altogether. It doesn't look that bad fully caged, but after that its stiffness makes for some of the most painful shots to watch. At the same time, the escape scene contains the most convincing FX shot in the whole film: a high angle looking down on Kong (i.e., Rick Baker) as he wades across the fleeing crowd, leaving crushed, writhing bodies in his wake. Despite bad effects, this remains my favorite Kong film. As a kid I got to see it at a sold-out performance the day after Christmas 1976. There are some GOOD effects (the wall-smashing scene still holds up) and had the rest been up to snuff, I truly believe the film would've been more embraced over the years (and certainly more deserving of its effects Oscar).
It's my favorite too because of how dark is sad it is. Beautiful really. Even Jeff Bridges' speech at the beginning about Kong is mesmerizing. Thanks for watching man.
In the buildup to the release of the 2005 remake, I was really hoping for a deluxe edition of the '76 film on DVD/Blu-ray, featuring deleted scenes, audio commentary, making-of footage/photos, TV and radio spots, present-day interviews with cast and crew, an isolated audio track for Barry's score, a slideshow of the endless merchandising, perhaps even the extended NBC version of the film as a bonus option (I say option because the theatrical version, I'm sure you'll agree, is much better paced).
Alan Beauvais This has been my holy Grail of high want Blu-rays forever pretty much. Would love a documentary on this film.
It really has become a forgotten film, which is ironic given the amount of hype surrounding its release. Dino was determined to match/surpass the "Jaws" phenomenon, which even as of late-'76 was still going strong. For a few months at least, "Kong" reigned as a pretty dominant force at the box office and across pop culture (including references on TV's "What's Happening!!" and "Good Times"). A sizable re-release for Easter '77 kept the craze going a little while longer. Alas, "Kong" fell (no pun intended) within that narrow window between historic game-changers "Jaws" and "Star Wars," the latter which rewrote the rules not only on special effects and audience expectations but on audience tolerance, as well.
One thing I'll give this movie props for: it's the only one of the three King Kong films that actually explains how Kong was brought off his island to America. The other two just cut from Skull Island to New York and hope that we don't wonder too long about how Kong's capturers managed to lift the giant ape onto the ship, or how and where they kept him contained on the vessel during the journey. This movie shows him imprisoned in the ship's massive cargo hold that was originally intended to carry oil. We still don't know how they got his inert body onto the ship in the first place, but maybe there's just no way any King Kong movie could explain that. This movie definitely gets points for that effort.
Good point Colin!
To me, the saddest King Kong movie will easily be the 2005 version. There is a fair amount of flaws with that film, but the one aspect that they absolutely nailed was the relationship between Kong and Naomi Watts. They start out very rockily, but then their emotional connection is forged without any dialogue, and, weird as this sounds, it almost feels believable. There's nothing corny about it, and they're not using the story to shoehorn in some heavy-handed message. It's told with such powerful sincerity, and Naomi Watts gives a performance for which no praise is too high. As a result of all this, Kong's literal downfall feels genuinely tragic.
That one was brutally sad at the end for sure.
Read the paperback "The Creation of King Kong". Awesome informative read. And yes the soundtrack is beautiful
Awesome thank you !
The Lion King maybe my first theater experience, I can't remember.
One movie I really like from my childhood that critics tend to pan is the original Petes Dragon. I haven't seen it in ages though.
This King Kong movie felt big and real in a sense that the others don't but still feels very dated. It's a strange beast. It's good to see Jeff Bridges, I just like the guy. Is there any role that Bridges plays that's not likable?
It really is a strange beast. But it's very unique...and I love that about it.
Drumdums Watching this film on its own without the others it helps the film quote a bit more. While this has its share of problems the themes this movie conveys along with a Kong that's not animated or claymated really works in the films favor.
I'll watch the last 30 minutes in another time. The cinematography in this movie is just breathtaking. There aren't as many iffy shots as I remembered but there still exist.
The ship in the film was the R/V Melville, I worked on her over 14 years as 3rd, 2nd, and Chief Mate on science voyages around the world.
Man that is so awesome!
This took me back to my childhood with Fright Night, then WPIX. I use to watch horror films with no problem now I can't do it anymore. Bella Lagosi White Zombie was a first and always a favorite for Friday nights and then it was on to films like the Howling , Vamps, Freddy, Jason etc.. as a tween. I can't watch that for beans after 8pm nowadays. The new ones make me so squeamish, unlike the fear that builds in you from the 70's and 80's.
New Subscriber, catching up on some new releases on Amazon (Morgan) and was left scratching my head and needed additional feedback from a Moviehead. Can't believe I have never come across your reviews before they are AWESOME! Thanks for the work you put in to them, I will definitely be watching more. I also watched your intro video and will stalk you on running. I use to run ten years ago and and miss it but don't know how to motivate myself to get back on the road to a successful pattern. Keep Rockin' er Drummin. Enjoy your Day!
Thank you so much! Yeah my feet have really taken a beating over the years so I don't get to run as much as I'd like to, but I still try to squeeze some in. Thanks for stopping by!
You're welcome, Anytime!
I love-love-love 1976 King Kong! This movie has a huge nostalgic value to me! Great film with interesting characters. Jessica Lange was the hottest woman in 1976! Goddess! ***** By the way, I don't think Fred Wilson was an entirely bad person! Of course, he wanted to make money. But he didn't want to hurt anyone. At least not consciously. I almost feel sorry for him! ***** The absolute worst people were actually New York city officials and military personnel! Men with flamethrowers and helicopter pilots. And their superiors...
Yeah Fred W underestimated the danger. He didn't believe.
I saw this in the theaters in the late 70s at a US military base in Heidelberg Germany. Had a big impact me on at the time, And still laugh at the fate of Charles Grodin. Yeah the effects are dated but it’s still a very good movie. Watched it again about six years ago.
It’s funny - some practical effects from the past have aged poorly, but they still look really good compared to most CG efforts of the 90s and especially the early 2000s. Aside from the Wizard of Oz the first film I remember seeing in the theater was “The Creeping Flesh” starring Peter Cushing, a hammer film. Was only five or six and it really freaked me out. Watched it recently and I was laughing.
Other films with huge impacts were Star Wars and The Spy Who Lived Me, Which is still my favorite Bond movie. And the original six Star Wars films are still my favorite movies of all time. My first R-rated film was Halloween 2, And then The Thing and Friday the 13th 3D. Became an instant horror fan. To this day my older brother still teases me for being so scared I had to leave the theater while watching the Thing, which is funny because it’s one of my favorite movies of all time now. I watched it with a younger friend who had never seen it on New Year’s Eve and he was shocked at how gross it got but loved it And was very impressed with what they accomplished via practical effects in the early 80s.
My mom had to buy me a ticket to see Friday the 13th 3D (I was 12-13) while she went and saw a new movie in the same multiplex starring, as she put it, “that handsome Mel Gibson”. The movie was the Road warrior and she had no idea what she was getting into - I will never forget the look on her face when she came out of the theater while I was waiting for her - She does not like violent films and definitely did not get what she was expecting -lol. When I saw it years later on HBO it immediately became one of my favorite movies.
That's a nice trip down memory lane man. I served in the Air Force for 24 years myself. Great memories of going to the theater back in the day. I remember seeing Psycho III at the drive-in movie theater back in 86. My sister and her boyfriend snuck me in the trunk haha. Good times.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews lol that’s great! Yeah this triggered a lot of memories.
I guess the one thing this movie has over the other two is that the villain gets his comeuppance. Then again, I would argue that Carl Denham is a more complicated antagonist in King Kong '33 and especially '05, so maybe it was more fitting that he live to recognize the consequences of his greed. Charles Grodin is a total scenery-chewing bad guy, so you knew he had to get his.
The road to el dorado was the first movie I ever saw and it really is one of the greatest movies ever made. It would make for a kickass review
I've never seen that one. I'll definitely add it to the list. Thanks!
I grew up with this movie too, it's my favorite version of King Kong out of the 3. I have a limited edition drinking glass from 1976 I store pens and pencils in.
Damn that's too awesome. I had a lunch box back in the early 80s from the movie.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews I had a making of the movie book as a kid that talked about the robot Kong and why it was used so little.
I had no idea you did a review on King Kong. That's so cool! It's one of my favourites. I think effects are still quite good (for it's time) when you consider the era, and the amount of hard work that went into making them as real as they could. Where a lot of movies now, it's just too cgi that it's obvious. I'd take Rick Baker in a suit over that any day. Interesting fact about Rick Baker, he also did Eddie Murphy's costume for The Nutty Professor.
Yep. This is one the most important films of my life. Big part of my childhood.
Just subbed nice content man,
Hell yeah thank you!
My real problem with the snake scene isn't the special effects. It's the fact that that's evidently the only non-Kong creature that inhabits this version of Skull Island. The other two Kong movies, as well as Kong: Skull Island, all people the island with a whole menagerie of awesome and deadly prehistoric creatures to fight Kong and threaten the human explorers. This movie is problematic for me because it isn't exciting. It's got some touches that are fun in a very silly way, but it doesn't really feel like an adventure movie. It doesn't really deliver on one's expectations for a King Kong movie.
Haha if there were any others, we surely didn't see them.
Cheap Remake of King Kong with no Dinosaurs.
Garbage.
Awesome review!!!
I love this movie. I grew up with it and it's one of my favorite movies. The best of the King Kong films in my opinion. It was fun revisiting it the another night.
This film and Supergirl were two of my first films I remember watching as a kid.
Oh I remember Supergirl pretty early on as well. That one was...interesting haha.
Drumdums The Supergirl show is better.
Watched this in the theater, loved it. I'm a big "old school " Godzilla guy tho. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
That's awesome man! This film is such a big part of my childhood.

Hey Lee , fun review !
Always been a fan of the King kong movies and Planet of the apes movies since i was a kid . Saw all the King kong movies and Planet of the apes movies many times on tv back in the day .
I really can't remember the first movie i watched as a kid , must have been a Disney animated movie i guess Greets !
Did you see King Kong Lives? Talk about atrocious haha. So funny.
Drumdums The review for "King Kong Lives" when it was first released was as follows: "King Kong Lives... and the audience dies!". Best review ever!!
I like King Kong Lives...same director and everything!
@@squatch570 I know of a review that doesn't really describe the movie at all; instead, it describes the behavior of the studio, which tells you all you need to know: ruclips.net/video/XwoxFObSlvg/видео.html
Peter Cullen did the vocal effects for King in this movie.
Great review , better than mine lol. I feel that this is the quintessential version of the traditional Kong story. The first movie I remember watching is (It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World).
King King 1976 was released in theaters in Decemer 1976. Highly unlikely that you watched it on TV in your living room during that time. LOL
I watched it a few years later on tv. Never said I watched it in 76. I was born in 73 btw. But you seem nice.
Too many movies to name, but the 1st 3 movies I've ever seen in a theater were Snow White, Jaws, and then Star wars ( A New Hope ).
That's a great start!
also have you seen King Kong Lives? the squeal to the 1976 movie and it stars linda hamilton?
the squeal ?
@@AlejandroGuzman-mh7me sequel sorry
It's not the worst the Peter Jackson is.
I was an extra in the World Trade Center Plaza scenes.
Damn that's too cool man!
The first movie I can remember watching was The Land Before Time
Oh man I remember showing that one to my kids when they were little.
If I remember correctly it, was a class field trip.
The best part about this movie was Kong himself. His roar was the best ever that I remember. Other than that I didn't care for the movie. To much of an emotional movie for me. The original will always be my favorite simply because of the lack of an emotional attachment for Kong. this movie did have a very good film score though.
Completely agree. I love this movie so much.
I have a weakness for this movie. I used to watch it over and over again when I was younger. I still love watching it now. But you're right though, I usually skip the "horny molesting" part, too. I don't know what they were thinking when they shot that, lol.
Haha yeah that was weird, but I've always loved this one. The score is so haunting too. Thanks for watching!
Drumdums As I was watching your video, and saw your collection in the background, I realized I don't own a King Kong Funko Pop yet. ORDERED! :-)
Damn I need to get one of those too!
Well the 1933 Kong strips Fay Wray as well.
KING KONG 76 I was 12 yrs old and still to this day I’m 60 now it’s still my favorite KONG film next to the 1933 version, Peter Jackson’s KK it’s ok but I feel he fumbled the ball in some parts of the film. The 76 KK film isn’t perfect either w one main flaws “not enough KONG ISLAND action scenes it could have been a little more in that area. 76 KK film has a great cast well shot and an Awesome soundtrack, and the ending is very Heartbreaking 😢 to watch even to this day.
I approve.
Thank you.
I recently picked up a 4K copy of Pitch Black and was shocked at how poor and dated the CGI effects were. Give me a guy in a rubber suit or an animatronic puppet any day of the week compared to that.
Yeah that period of CGI has aged horribly.
I get tired of hearing that this is "the worst of the King Kong movies". No, Peter Jackson's CGI mess was the worst. Stupid dino fights and the bronto herd stampede were laughable. Jack Black was terrible. The giant insects eating people scene was disgusting and horrific. And Kong looked ridiculous, like a hairy Popeye. A CGI one at that.
It's my favorite.
Den bästa filmen av King kong.
Yes Rick baker played the big gorilla boy himself king kong
Yep. There's a convention panel where he discusses it. Really cool.
I saw King Kong 1976..but on the posters..King was fighting jet planes..not so much in the movie..sad..But i got this one in my collection.:)..All sins forgiven..:)
It's one of my all time favorite movie posters.
Every movie poster is exaggerated for the promotional hype. The Crocodile Dundee poster portrays him as taller than NYC buildings and peeling them apart with his hands. Did you think there was going to be a 700 foot tall Paul Hogan in that film??

Hey man good review. I have a different opinion of this film. I loved this film as a kid, but now that I saw it again i can see why this is hated by so many. It has many problems, but it is still entertaining. I have a channel where i review movies and i have a review of this one. I don't know if you would be interested to check it out and see what you think? Again good review. See ya :)
Yeah I'll definitely check out your channel man. Thanks for watching!

This Version of King Kong Sucked.
Ok.
You don't pay a lot of attention to dialogue do you? How did you derive that she may have had a porn background. During the dialogue in that scene, she specifically states she refused to watch the film that "Harry" was showing on the yacht, so she went up on deck. Then she asks if Jack heard of someone's life being saved by "Deep Throat". She was trying to be a legitimate actress. I noticed that a lot of younger people nowadays gloss over the details and have very short attention spans.
Hey I thought she had a background in porn. My bad. They're just movies. I still love it. Thanks fro watching.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews Yeah, no problem man. I didn't mean it to come off as mean spirited or malicious. If you heard me say in person to you exactly what I wrote, you'd most likely laugh. I'm not trying to take it seriously either but I guess I'm a stickler for details due to my engineering background. Fun video that I still enjoyed... thanks for posting it!
@@squatch570 No problem man. And thanks for the reply.
it is very dated and does not up as a classic like the original. i saw this movie for the first time in my late teens and never really got into it.
the first movie i remember watching was one million years bc with my dad and bro on christmas day. again very dated film but because i saw it when i was a kid i have fond memories of it and is very nostalgic
I never saw One Million Years BC. Might have to check that one out. I love revisiting these old films though.
I love this version, but the 2005 movie is better.
I've always thought the 2005 version was kind of bland. Still like it though.
Drumdums it's fine
It's all a matter of personal opinion. Everyone has their favorite version. Mine is, by far, the '76 one, despite the spotty effects.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews Actually, my biggest problem with the 2005 version is the exact opposite: It's so over-the-top. The original King Kong was the movie that made Peter Jackson want to become a filmmaker, so once he was given $207 million to spend on his own version of it, the primary guideline he laid out for himself was: dial everything up to 11. He used every technical advancement of the 21st century to make the most thunderously gargantuan remake imaginable. It takes nearly an hour to get to the island, and once they do, every action sequence has to be as excessive as possible. Sometimes this works in the film's favor. For instance, Kong's three-tiered battle with three T-rexes is the gold standard for Kong-versus-monster battles. (I haven't seen every Kong movie there is, but I'd be very impressed if any other film were to feature a duel to top that one). Also, I can appreciate how Jackson tried something new for Skull Island's tone and aesthetic, giving it a spooky and often grotesque horror-show vibe that's quite effective. However, the overall effect is pretty exhausting. The film's real saving grace is the way it handles the relationship between Kong and Naomi Watts. They somehow make Kong a fleshed-out character without anthropomorphizing him, and Naomi Watts is fantastic. Her performance is so impressive partly because (unlike Jessica Lange in the 1976 version) she's given so little dialogue, so she really has to convey a range of thoughts and emotions through facial expressions alone. In the end, this relationship is so crucial because it makes the ending all the more powerful.
This movie sucked.
I love this movie.
It Sucked Hard.
The Character played by Charles Grodin is a Bigger Monster than King Kong.
@AlejandroGuzman-mh7me
It didn't suck, nevermind suck hard, and it's a better all round film than 2005.
No It Isn't.
It's Garbage.
So Cheap It Didn't Even Have Any Dinosaurs In It.
No Dinosaurs.
It Was Cheap.
This film gets a bad wrap
Definitely.
