amazing. The one other thing I think is worth considering, is, from a much more cynical point of view, the test did establish something. The least hyper pinkie was chosen. Twilight couldn't tell the difference. So she decided to go with the criteria that would be most useful to her in a pinkie... the least annoying one.

I think the biggest reason I love Antony's videos so much is because of how much he's smiling in his videos, like, is that his sass shining through? Is he hiding a tragic past behind that pearly beam? I feel like he's just really enjoying what he's doing, but either way it makes me smile so much watching his videos too:3

I like how the amount of posters behind you gradually increases throughout the video.
I immediately thought of Calvin and Hobbes, specifically, when calvin turns the transmorgrifyer into a duplicator. It plays out almost identically to the episode.

You know, the way the magic of the pool is depicted, I've always wondered if Pinkie was even still in the same dimension. For all we know, the pool just takes individuals to an alternate mirror universe comprised of doppelgangers who were also from other universes.

Ever since I saw that animation by TiaraWhy, the "real ending of too many pinkie pies" (or something like that) I've had this unsettling feeling ever since that it might not the the real pinkie.
You know how the first pinkie clone kept getting their names wrong, "applejohn/applesauce, fluttershutter. How brutal would it have been if fluttershy was like "oh it's so good to have you back" and they hug and the pinkie was like "oh thanks fluttershutter I mean fluttershy" they looks around with shifty eyes see if anyone noticed.

You are the only reviewer a know (MLP or not) who I actually want to see summaries the plot of what you are reviewing, because it is so fucking entertaining!
Don't think I've seen that Simpsons, not sure I want to.
Also how about that timing in referencing a Harold Ramis film!
What about Nostalgia Critic? His plot summaries are endlessly funny.

Worth the wait! I had so much fun seeing you at the Mixed Media Panel at Ponycon
Yeah, this is one of those episodes that opens up a world of fridge horror (look it up on TVTropes.org) when you start to think about it. Yes, I think the point of the episode intended by the writers was that only the real Pinkie Pie would have a strong enough connection to her friends that she would actively commit herself to something she hates in order to stay with her friends. But good grief! The fact that lives seem to be on the line in the end makes it very disturbing indeed. I think the writers dropped the ball on this one.
You absolutely have to do more of these, that was AMAZING!

Doesn't Twilight have a certain 'Fail Safe' that she tried to use in the Season 2 premier? And wouldn't it be more effective (perhaps) now that she is currently 'spreading her wings' and opening her horizons?
Also, what about that last part, that supposed cliffhanger, where it turns out that Twilight and Pinkie Pie were indeed just clones of Pinkie Pie, whilst the original is trying to break the glass wall that happens to be the way into their reality.

So much after thought in this episode. Anthony's questions regarding the clones are very valid in a critical point-of-view. I'm speculating that the mindset the writers when doing the scripts is: whatever the story is, if it works, just go for it. I don't think writers in a TV series such as this were given zero time to establish the lore. Not all writers has the abilities Tolkien has in terms of world building--nor the time to make one.
Would you consider the clone pond something similar to the Well of Souls from Darksiders 2. Pink ghastly spirits did went back to the well.
Maybe the mirror pool is just a portal to alternate realities of the same universe? All one similar one where Pinkie climbs into the mirror pool and is is met with herself. So there are countless other universes with failed timelines because the elements don't work.
I love how more and more posters gradually begin to cover the wall in the background :)

This review just made you step that one step beyond and you are now even more amazing than before. It was so great!

I have watch this vid and all yours, Antony Connon's other vids 50 times so I know every word and I'm still not sick of it
The dark undertones in this episode makes it one of my favorites, you can come up with so many conclusions as to what truly happened. I love the idea of the mirror pool because by this point the show had been lacking in the mystical department. Pinkie Prime was adorable throughout and I like how the conflict was internal, being Pinkie's need to have fun with everyone, rather than external. Twilight has no knowledge of what makes the Pinkies tick but she does know that the real Pinkie would do anything for her friends which is why the paint drying worked. The other Pinkies only wanted to have fun so when faced with a boring situation they would eventually crack, unlike the real one. While there are many variables that could change this it is clear that the real one was salvaged due to it not instantly going nuts like the others did. And let's be honest, Twilight being able to precisely find and exterminate the fake Pinkie's was pretty badass.
Well. This was a surprise. After watching a few reviewers, I determined the whole "episode analysis" thing just wasn't for me.
So much for that. You've just earned a subscriber, and I'm looking very forward to the next one!

Maybe the clones weren't really conscious, they just had fragments of pinkies soul animating them, and the pieces were returned to her when the fake bodies were destroyed. That's why she got depressed when there were to many. Twilight didn't really murder them, she restored them to their proper place. :D

9:30 How did they not notice that button before, especially as Twilight and Spike have on repeated occasion reorganized the library and on twice of those occasions the 4 of the mane six helped?

Loved the ending to that one. My personal headcanon resolves these issues as follows;
The danger was not in getting the wrong Pinkie Pie, in fact, the reason WHY Pinkie was getting so depressed and existential was because her desire to have fun was actually SPLIT off into the other cloned Pinkies. The spell Twilight used returned the energy matter to the pool and merged the spiritual energy back to pinkie.
Had Twilight gotten the "wrong/real" pinkie, then her essence still would have been reconstituted into whichever Pinkie was left at the end and you still would have had the original personality and identity intact. The inherent danger is not so much that you could get the wrong Pinkie, but that you could accidentally get ALL the pinkies and not have anyone left.
It's about time!!! WHEWW!! REJOICE THE KING IS BACK!
The best part about this video is as we progress through it, more and more objects appear on his wall in the background. The first thing I thought when I started this was "Wow, this guy needs to decorate".
Anthony C, your review was very entertaining and I did enjoy it. Yet I believe we can look to Party of One to take in consideration of a depressed Pinkie Pie believing she's going to lose her friends. I admit, for peace of mind, it would have been nice if they would have ask questions such as past events but I do believe they where left with the correct Pinkie Pie... the original.
All the clones wanted was to have fun and while they may have participated in the 'watching paint drying' challenge to 'live' they in the end were defective copies. I would even say that the real Pinkie would be upset about what was happening, suggest a challange (thoigh perhaps also proof questions), and then bear through the challange to prove to herself and others that she is Pinkie Pie. Why? Because she has the heart for it despite her antics, despite her wackiness, and despite any possible mental issues she loves her friends. Her heart, her soul, cannot be copied fully if at all nor can her memories of why this matters.
Also I feel with so little information we should not consider the clones living but magical constructs of the pool. Why? Well at least for peace of mind, and because it can be argued if they were actually 'killed'.

Actually Multiplicty came out after the Calvin and Hobbes comic with the duplicator which has the same concept and probably inspired Multiplicty which (might have) inspired to many pinkie pie(or the Calvin and Hobbes comic did either one is possible)

I remember checking some posts by the writer when this episode came out. They saw absolutely *zero* ethical or moral problem with this because "they came from energy, and they returned to energy."
Other living things, like people, are just particular arrangements of carbon, like a house made of blocks. When you return the block house to a storage box, the house ceases to exist.
In light of the official word on the matter, it's honestly kind of disturbing to see that kind of mentality making shows. I can digest shows with some fairly monstrous content, though sanctioned genocide of civilians is something I have to pace myself on. Have whatever terrible things happen you want, but it's worrying when the characters or, failing that, the writers don't acknowledge that these are terrible things. Or at least make a note in the show that there's a question or debate to be had about the issue.
Nicely put. Furthermore, even if the duplicates were some soulless energy willed from the void, this episode gives us no evidence that the real Pinkie survived.

If you like the idea of not being sure whether the original or copycat survived, I suggest you look up "Make Up", the 13th episode of Ghost In The Shell: SAC: 2nd gig. (Try saying that 3 times fast.) The setting involves cyberization, with cyborg bodies that look basically like normal bodies, and everyone has electronic brains.
The plot of this episode is that one of the minor members on the team has a stalker, who goes out of her way to get a perfect reproduction of her target's body, complete with an up to date copy of all his memories. They fight at the end, and the other characters aren't really sure if the real one one is the one that won.
The brilliance is that the character they do this with is a really minor member of the team who doesn't otherwise get a whole lot of focus or character development.
you deserve more views for the amount of effort put in nearly every aspect of your videos
So Twilight is the murderer of over 10 Pinkies.., Well that got dark very quickly.
