    Can't wait for this course. I'm just being able to pick up the guitar, sparingly, after a bout with double frozen shoulder and rotator cuff surgery. My luck, a few weeks after I became a member, BAM, I'm out of commission. But the sun is rising and I am very excited for this. I love the melody and and finding it. Such music to my ears. Thanks Michael, what a great thing you have here! Such an awesome teacher and members!

    62 year old....playing since 9....just now learning to hybrid...but..find that a thumb pick is easier and gives me an extra finger to pick with. Having a blast as my playing improves...

    Beautiful! It helps clarify for me how to think of the 4-voice triads common to the piano on the guitar. I understood the left hand, but didn’t know what to do with the right hand. I will take the class (in due time, though). Thank you!

    Can't wait for the course! I've been hybrid picking for a while now and will never not do it! Even with songs I already play I incorporate the technique.

    I've avoided hybrid picking and any finger picking forever, but today I watched your 5 year old video on the GuitarGate intro lick, and I spent about an hour learning to play it pretty good, and now I can't wait for the Hybrid Picking course to come out, because I find the GuitarGate Intro Lick sounds better hybrid picked, but for me it's much easier to use a pick than my fingers right now, the finger-picking is unnatural and tough for me at the moment! Do I need to grow my right-hand fingernails? I don't know if I can stand to grow them longer because I'm so used to having short nails, but I dunno.

    I will definitely watch this course when you get it up, but as someone who started as a fingerpicker, I am failing to see what advantage this has over finger picking. I actually have one more digit available to me as a fingerpicker, thumb and three fingers on my picking hand as opposed to holidng the pick with the thumb and index this way, leaving me only two fingers to pick with.

      You get the option to play fingerstyle as well as with a pick when you hybrid pick

      It's in the name of the technique. It acts as a balance between fingerpicking and standard picking techniques to allow you to smoothly transition between em. For example, string skipping alternate picked lead lines become much more efficient. Plus the dynamic of a pick is very different than adding in your thumb and index

    Totally agree - Hybrid Picking style is the Swiss Army knife of guitar picking technique. It allows for all forms of play. For me, back in 2001 after playing a few years, I picked up a little known album at the time “The Big Come Up” by some obscure band “The Black Keys” and got so frustrated that I couldn’t play “Busted” the first song on the album properly. Dan Auerbach uses a hybrid form that’s kind of a cross between Travis and classical where he almost exclusively uses (or used at the time) his thumb for base notes and only his forefinger / pointer finger for harmony. Personally the thumb never felt right nor the pointer finger, but man when I dedicated myself to by god playing that song I found that for me, using a medium pick with some flexibility for chords and leads, alongside my middle finger was ticket! Took my playing to a whole new level - and like Mike says - never looked back! Lessons are great of course, I think if you have a player you really love and you really know the song, get some good tabs and sit down and try to work it out and see what feels comfortable - there are many hybrid variations and no “wrong” way if you ask me! Great video though!

    I have tried to hybrid pick, and i can not do it. Im not coordinated enough. I have been flatpicking for so many years, and im getting old and my fingers dont work well at times.
    Sometimes i try to hybrid pick but i just can not hit the notes i want and just sounds bad. Then i go back to flatpicking, and everything is good..
    🤷‍♂️👋

    • @JohnnyArtPavlou
      @JohnnyArtPavlou Год назад +3

      I have to say I’m really bad at it. But one thing that advanced me a teeny weenie technique is using a thumb-pick… but not the regular hard time… Which are probably fine but the kind from Black Mountain that have a little spring on them cause they really fit on your thumb very comfortably. So instead of having to hold the pic with your index finger, it just sticks on your thumb and it frees up your finger so you can pick with your thumb and then do some stuff with your other fingers.
      I think that might help. Or it might move you into an entirely different style of picking. But maybe give it a try

    • @Vern859
      @Vern859 Год назад +2

      @JohnnyArt Pavlou
      That sounds like a good idea. I saw those advertised. Just might try one. I can do straight-up finger picking without a pick at all.
      Now, when i use a pick, i don't use the point i use the flat edge and the round edge. The only time i use the point is on a hot solo, i want to ring out louder...👍

    • @JohnnyArtPavlou
      @JohnnyArtPavlou Год назад

      @@Vern859 Cool. If you can do fingerpicking… Then this is just like a teeny step in the direction of hybrid picking. I actually think that this could stand in for a hybrid picking but I also think it’s good to learn new techniques. I’m still a dork at hybrid picking but I think this brought me a little bit closer.
      The pics are pretty good I think you get a three pack for like 11 bucks. Maybe it’s cheaper.Take a look

    • @JohnnyArtPavlou
      @JohnnyArtPavlou Год назад +1

      OK… I just looked them up and on Amazon they’re like 19.95 for three pics. So that’s disgusting.
      Maybe the next time you’re in your local Guitar store just pick up a regular old plastic thumb pic. The reason I’m not crazy about them is that they always really pinch your thumb and become kind of uncomfortable.
      I would say look around and try to find a cheaper price. $20 for three picks is ridiculous

    I dismissed hybrid picking as a country thing, but it’s only been in the past 2-3 years I realized (after 19 years playing guitars) that guys like Eric Johnson and Mateus Asato use hybrid picking all the time. Super excited for this course, happy to be a lifetime member at GuitarGate

    Ian Thornley is a master of hybrid picking, you should have him on to discuss his technique! A great example is look what I found and especially the guitar fill at 1:48 and the solo that starts at 3:17 from this video ruclips.net/video/_HK36nXbPe8/видео.html&ab_channel=BigWreck. Ian also throws in the hybrid picking into his shreding in the solo.
    PS, you should do a reaction video to it, it's been a while since you did a Big Wreck song and we all know that Ian has the best guitar tone in the world.

    This my be controversial, a pick and three fingers! Not sure! I’m with Jeff Beck on this one, why not four fingers and a thumb? Flesh and finger nails can open a whole new world of tone. I have a pick made of re-cycled plastic the downside, my playing is garbage!!
