Pineapple and banana on pizza is a watershed in Sweden, you either love it or you hate it - no in between. And banana/pineapple and curry powder actually go very well with each other.
I love that we call a africana, you have tomatosouce and chees on, like me, i want to have mashedmeet as a toppning, currypowder, peanut, and banana, that is a real africana pizza. And it is very nice. If I want an Hawaii pizza then you put on tomatosouce and chees, mashedmeet and ananas, i love that one to.
Really? I havent met anyone that really hates it. I dont think at least... My girlfriend thinks im wierd for having Bearneisesauce on it tho, she likes it with kebabsauce.
hahaha listen. this is a one meal pizza for one person and its not curry saus, its yellow curry powder sprinkeld over the pizza 🤣😂🤣 and its fricking good. keep the videos coming, they are really good. chefs kisses 🤌 to your videos Dwayne. have a nice one. greatings from sthlm sweden
The pizza's with banana are way better with curry sauce, then again its not strange if you havent seen it. Its only served in regions such as Stockholm, Norrköping, Jönköping.
Usually Pizza's that have lettuce/cucumber/tomatoes it's put on fresh after the pizza is baked. As for the pineapple and banana on pizza, it usually comes with curry powder and not curry sauce (at least around where I live in Sweden) and it goes really well together. * Should also note that the pizza salad they usually come with is cabbage, sometimes carrot, black pepper/salt and vinegar. There's usually no oil involved lol. ** Also to mention the standard pizza size, depending on how hungry you are it's either one meal or two meals. My sister usually buys 2 of those, one for herself and 1 for her 2 kids to share pretty much. *** To answer your question about washing machines etc. It is very common for Swedes to share a laundry room when you live in a flat/condo complex. Some do have space for one in the flat/condo but would be a cost for the tenant to buy one of their own and have it installed while the landlord usually has a laundry room everyone share by booking a time slot etc.
Pizzerias in Sweden usually have between 25-50 different pizzas on the menu. Personally my favorite is about as the one she has, but with chicken and peanuts 😄 Its very common with laundry rooms. Every apartment complex have them (almost all).
@@Xanthopteryx I thought 25-50 was a very small number, yes. In my li'l hometown(2000+ inhabitants) we have 2-3(one is only open between may and september as the owner goes to Thailand for the rest of the year) and all of them have at least 80 different pizzas on their menues. The oldest one of them are up to 139 now.
The pizza with banana is often called "Africana", because banana in food is a staple in East Africa (they use Plantain in West Africa which is a different thing altogether). It's usually curry powder rather than curry sauce where mentioned. I personally really like that sweet/savoury/slightly spicy blend). Any lettuce is always put on the pizza afterwards. The restaurants are not allowed to slice pizza because the cutter is almost impossible to clean to the required standards between each use. Older flats don't have washing machines. There's instead a communal washroom with, usually, two heavy, near-industrial washing machines somewhere in or near the building. You have to book your 3-5 hour slot in advance. Modern flats do have a washer and a dryer in the flat, usually in the bathroom (never in the kitchen like in the UK).
"Hawaii Special" is what they're usually called here, with ham, pineapple, banana and currypowder and it's definitely one of my favourites. I love the salty with the sweet. A bit like putting salted peanuts on Ice Cream or dipping Fries in Milkshake.
Where I live you got the names Saana, African, exotic and tropical for the ham, banana, pineapple and curry powder pizza, all names at different pizza places 😅
You should look into the ”Calskrove” pizza from Northen Sweden. It consists of a calzone pizza that is stuffed with hamburgers (along with bread, toppings, and dressings) and French fries 😅😂
I have actually tried this. Can confirm it is just as crazy as it sounds. And basically 2-2½ meals in its own right, so eating one is a bit of a food challenge.
The sallad on pizza is usually put on after, other unusual things on pizza is artichoke, asparragus, meatballs, green mold cheese, ground meat sauce, mussles.
banana on pizza is actually pretty good ngl.. i love kebabpizza with fries and lettuce and vegetables add some garlic sauce to that and its literally foodgasm.. the lettuce is put on after the pizza is done so its cold. we have 3 sizes of pizza.. kid size, normal and family size.. the family one is usually the size of 2 or 3 pizzas ( at least where i live ). The one she is eating is for 1 person and is standard size when u order from any pizza place in sweden ( unless u ask for a kid sized pizza or family sized ) at least when me and my friends go out for pizza we never share everyone always order 1 pizza per person..
Pizzas with pineapple and banana comes from a traditional Swedish meal called flygande Jacob and usually it's curry, banana, pineapple, nuts and chicken
People substitute the chili for curry because it's more accessible. A lot of recipes call for curry as well. I didn't know chili was traditional for a long time because I learned it to include curry.
She is mistaken that it is curry sauce on the banana pizza. It is actually curry spices on top of the pizza. My favorite is still any pizza with bacon and egg. 😊 That pizza sallad is also a swedish "invention". Every building complex more or less have a dedicated laundry room which is free to use for the residents. I have a washing machine in my apartment but I have 4 kids so that one is not enough. So once a week I book a time for the laundry room.
The pizza salad is technically what you would call a quick pickle because it's a mix of white vinegar and sugar. The washing machine thing is super common if you live in a rented apartment, sometimes the laundry room (tvättstuga, which directly translates to laundry cottage/house) is located in a separate house from the actual building (which is more common to see in older buildings or in smaller villages rather than in larger cities with newly built apartment complexes), but usually they're situated in the cellar or ground floor of the building. In some older rented apartments I've also seen fittings for a laundry machine available even though they also have a dedicated laundry room, so I guess it varies quite a lot.
I always say: "If there's a way to ruin a Pizza - a Swede have tried it!" I can just check the local menues and find almost how many strange Pizzas as you like... like "Quattro Christmas Pizza" or "EastWestIndie Pizza".
Yeah. And growing up in Sweden, I have not seen a pizzeria with fewer than 100 combinations on the menu. Impressive how they memorize them.. but also understandable how there is often some ingredient missing/added that you did not want.
I live in Sweden and my new favourite pizza is with chicken, peanuts, pineapple and bearnaise sauce. I used to be a hater of pizza with strange toppings like fruits etc, but some are actually pretty good!
Laundry in flats/apartments are usually shared machines to save space in the flat. Usually you have two machines, one dryer and a dryer room where you can hang your laundry to dry.
When I was studying in university my favorite pizza place used to make their own curry sauce (slightly sweet mango style curry), which they included with a basic margarita pizza that also had curry flavored chicken on it, it was delicious to say the least. Besides banana on pizza, there's also a famous Swedish dish called Flygande Jakob/Jacob (Flying Jacob) that has bananas, fried bacon, cream, salted peanuts and chicken in it which I definitely think you should try when you decide to visit.
Yes! Flygande Jacob is very tasty! And I like pasta with shrimps, bananas and curry too. And bananapanncake (not for sweets, for dinner food. Make rolls of them with cheese and meatssaus.
About the laundry. Back in the old days apartment buildings were almost always built with communal areas such as laundry rooms with multiple machines shared among the residents of the building. You book a free slot in the schedule, usually like 4 hrs at a time, when you want to use the facility. Often it is located in the bottom of the building (the basement) or in a separate building nearby. It is great for residents living in smaller apartments or with small bathrooms etc. Ofcourse when washing machines became more affordable for the general public, more people living in flats installed their own (if they had the space). However now in the, let's call it the "post modern era", new buildings are rarely built with these communal laundry rooms. Instead, a washing machine is often included, or at least prepared for in the bathrooms of new developed properties. In fact, interior communal areas in general in newer buildings are really rare. Wich has led to a shortage of bombshelters in Swedish towns and cities. Residential developments bulit in WWII, and later during the cold war, were planned with shelters that could house whole blocks of ppl in case of bombings or nuclear warfare. I'm guessing it is more cost-effective to simply not build laundry rooms nor shelters. To answer your question - no, ofcourse not all swedes use communal laundry rooms. But it was quite a common thing back in the 20th century. I think it was a part of the social democratic project called "social engineering", or more correct/direct translated from swedish "social engineering art", were lives of ordinary people were sought to become more rational and effective. Edit: I myself still use a communal laundry room fyi :)
Hi Dwayne, I'd say that everyone living in any type of house has a washing machine whiole most people living in flats (rented apartments) does not. When you live in rented houses (made for renting) they normally have a comercial grade (or 2 or 3) washing machines you book and use. Saves space in the flat. Of course you'll find people that buy their own machines maybe due to special requirenments on their washing or just to avoid the hassle of booking and having to keep track of when to wash. Things look different when you rent a flat owned by a small company or single person. They do not have the funds to keep separate washing spaces with achines going so there you'd find washing machines in every flat (normally only a few flats together) Pizza in sweden is a science. I checked one of our local pizzerias and they have about 70 different pizzas (based on topping). Most of them comes in three variations. The basic, middle and expensive choice. The basic has the basic toppings. Then more toppings gets added on the next level and even more toppings on the most expensive one. I've never seen any pizza (I have bought or eaten) where something cold is added on top. So if you find a cucumber, as well as tomato, bell pepper, onion and so on pizza, the veggies are part of the topping and goes into the oven. They really cater to all tastes!
First of all, we usually call this pizza "Africana" that she eats and it is very good. Then we have one we call "Hawai" where it's just pineapple and ham (my favorite and I usually order extra pineapple) Now it's becoming more common to have your own washing machine and dryer, which is called a laundry stack, in your bathroom. Those who don't have it can use the house's laundry room or room where there is both a drying room and a mangle, and where I live, the appointment is handled there by the computer. I go to my property owner's page and into the washing times page and set myself up there, we have 3 hours per washing time with 2 washing machines and a tumble dryer. Here we have tags to open everything with so you don't enter the laundry room if you don't have that time. As my laundry room is an independent building, you can wash at night when you have the time from 00:00 to 06:00 to wash. Yes, it is 😀
This is bananas!! Our Swedish pizzerias often has 201 options like - but the banana-thing is quite rarely sold, I would think. Thank you for an interesting video Dwayne - now I´m hungry!! Think you would love our pizzas, really. They are amazing! :-P
Communal washing rooms are very common, if you live in an apartment they pretty much always have one. But lot of people have their own washing machines too. We have one in our apartment but we prefer using the communal one. Speaking of pizza, I've lived here for 13 years and always refused to even try the babana pizza, it just always felt like an abomination... But now I'm kind of curious 😅
Banana is fine on pizza, especially together with peanuts and curry (bacon ham and something salt). However, I still have difficulties with Pineapple (Annanas) or honey melon in food. Unless it is a destert.
Had a pizza with curry (powder), banana and pineapple, yesterday. I also added garlic sauce. Another thing to add to pizza-culture in sweden, you can add and remove ingredents to your pizza at your will. Adding ingredients will add to the price though.
Actually there is flats that have their own washing machine. Trevor and mine flat has both washing, dryer and dishing machine in the flat. But we also pay for the water we totally use. In houses people have their own. But in houses with flats it is still common to share in a specifique place. So you have to book your time and hold the time too. Some can also have "drop in", but then it's hard to get a time when it is available for laundry. Plus in most shared you can't wash 24/7 either.
It's not Curry saus, it's curry powder. And on the Kebab pizza we put the vegies on after it's cooked. What do you mean share pizza? No no in sweden you typically get your own pizza unless you order the family size one. There is also child size pizza with is smaller. But the pizza in the video is typically for 1 person
Today, my go to ranking for pizza in Sweden without any order: -Pinapple, chicken, curry, chili, banana, peanuts. -Tuna, jalapeno, pinapple, curry -"4 seasons" cheese, shrimp, clams, mushrooms, ham, olives (in different sections) Back in the days when I were training alot I could call my local pizzeria and say my name and they could say "the ordinary?"... that were a kebab pizza with (of cause) pinapple, ham and half of it with spicy sauce and the other with béarnaise. Extra: Many appartments in Sweden have a limited space if you have a rental. That's the reason why you either have a laundry in the basement or a house outside the appartment building with washing facilities. If you have a larger rental or buy a appartment they more often come with the plumbing and space to add your own washer (in rentals you can have the option to add one and take a extra charge on your rent due to the added "living quality" -this can be made with many household stuff such as newer fridge, oven, dishwasher etc).. but you can most often add this by your own if you just keep the old one and move it back once you move out.
Frutti - Pineapple, banana with yellow curry is the best. You'd love that one. Laundry, a lot of people lives in rental apartments and those for the most part use shared laundry facilities. Apartments with washer usually have much higher rent. I myself live in a small condo so I use a shared laundry facility.
My favorite pizza is called Hawaii. It's tomato sauce, cheese, ham, curry powder, and pineapple. I have curry sauce on the side, like a dipping sauce. Pizza salad is made of cabbage, sometimes carrot, and vinegary. If you live in a block of flats, you always have a shared Tvättstuga, washing area. You book a time for your laundry. Only in the newly built (and expensive) flats do you get a washer/dryer in the flat. If you are lucky there is room for a washer in your flat and you can buy one yourself, but especially older flats don't have space for it. Since it's common with a Tvättstuga you really don't see any laundrymats in Sweden.
When I make pizza at home, it is almost always with curry powder, but rest of the topping differs. One favorite I had while studying in the south of Sweden had a topping of banan, chicken, curry powder, peanuts and pineapple. Many block of flats in Sweden have a shared laundry room.
I mean, banana is a quite normal ingredient in food around the world. Sure it's more like the plantain, but it's more or less the same. I like it, it's nice. :)
"Hawaii twist" is a really odd and freaky pizza at my local spot. -Pineapple, banana, peanuts, scotch bonnet peppers, mozzarella and shrimp. It's delicious!♡♡♡
I've never seen a pizza with curry sauce on it. However many pizzas have curry, the spice mix, and often those also comes with banana slices or just chicken.
Yes. She is wrong. It's not currysauce, it's the spice mix. I think she confuse it with that you can buy different sauces (even curry) as an extra condiment on the side
Two of the more stranger pizzas that you won't find everywhere. 1) Vulkanpizza (you should be able to google it for pictures). Easy translate, volcano pizza. It's a Swedish smörgåsbord of 4-6 different pizzas on the same pizza. And a kebab in the middle. Why choose! 2) There is a dish in Sweden called "planka" or plank. It's a wooden board with meat that has mashed potatoes around it. And yes, that do exist as a pizza. My personal opinion, mashed potatoes on pizza don't really work. Also, when I studied in Umeå they had this tradition of rolling your pizza for easy on the go eating. Don't tell the Italians about us 😅
The rolled up pizza is probably the best (and only) way to eat pizza on the go when it is minus 20 degrees Celsius in the winter. Mind you that this "pizza roll" is only/mainly served from foodtrucks. And yes, I have tried them in the winter. The only gripe is the slightly less topping to be able to roll it...
Where I live, we do have that very basic kebab pizza where apart from the tomato sauce and cheese, there's only meat, onions and a couple of pickled greed peppers, but we also have the more elaborate ones; my local pizzeria had eight different varieties, including the basic one. And yes, one of those varieties has fries. Whether or not a kebab pizza comes with sauce already on it varies too; in Gothenburg it's usually already added (or at least it was when I lived there about fifteen years ago), but in my equally West Swedish home town, they only do so it if you eat at the pizzeria, and when you order it to go or have it delivered, you will instead get it in a plastic container. Exactly what sauces are available varies too, in West Sweden, they are generally white or at least were white before you added the spices, while in other parts of the country they may very well be bright red. I prefer the "hot" one you get in Gothenburg and along much of the coast to what we get further inland in the region though, that's one of the things I really miss about living there... I think they might have this Gothenburg/west coast sauce down in Scania too, by the way, but I've never had kebab there so I don't actually know. Lettuce and similar veggies that don't cook well are added after the pizza comes out of the oven. Fresh mushrooms and sliced tomatoes can be added either before or after, so if you're like my brother and sensitive to raw tomatoes but not cooked ones, you should ask or simply tell them to leave any tomatoes other than those in the regular sauce off. My local pizzeria's version of her "Exotic" is called "Africana" and has ham, banana , pinepple and curry powder. So a mix between that and the next one really, and also with curry powder rather than curry sauce. In any case, pretty much every single pizzeria has something similar, and some have even more. I think the one closest to my aunt has six or seven banana-curry pizzas (still powder, not sauce), some with no meat, some with ham, some with chicken, and yes peanuts enter into the equation too. My American friend who tried one with banana, curry powder, chicken and peanuts really liked it, by the way. Different to what they were used to, but good in a guilty pleasure sort of way. Honestly, a lot of Swedish pizzas seem to be "We already stock this, so let's put it with some of the stuff we stock for other pizzas and see if it sticks or not." Which means that there are loads of different local varieties, and apart from Margherita you can never go by name only, you _have_ to read the description on the menu. Even a classic like Marinara is iffy since some might serve the Naples version (tomato sauce, garlic, olive oil and oregano or basil) and others the Swedish version (tomato sauce, cheese, mussels/clams and shrimp). Actually, some pizzerias in might use tuna rather than mussels/clams for their Swedish-style Marinara... Oh, and as a native Swede, the only place I've seen pizzas come in slices is Pizza Hut, and in this country they're more of a... I shouldn't say high-end restaurant, but they only exist in a few places and are defintiely aimed at a different segment of the market than elsewhere. They're not your usual neighborhood pizzeria, instead they're that cool American pizza restaurant in e.g. Stockholm or Gothenburg that you never thougth to visit. That pizza feeds two adult and quite hungry Swedes normally, or you know, one such Swede who then doesn't have to think about dinner the next day. Which I guess is why she too gave up after about half. By the way, my favorite pizza has beef, taco salsa, jalapeños and garlic on it.
Laundryrooms depend on where you live, if it´s an modern flat you rent or you own it, or if you have a house. I live in a flat that´s a bit older but I have a laundryroom on my floor for the weekly laundry and then we have a big laundryroom in the basement that is for monthly washing or the sheets and covers for beds.
Dwanyne! when you come to sweden i sooo need to treat you to some swedish fastfoods (britts usally love them ) i promisse you if you come to anny place near me ill treat you to especially 3 things no:1 Flygande jacob pizza (pizza with curry powder/spice, banana, salted peanuts, chiken) no:2 Sotare (knäckerbröds sanwitch with a pan-fried fillé of herring with finely chopped red-onion creme fraiche/sour cream and chopped parsly) and finally my pesonal fav no:3 a Tunnbrödsrulle
The Tropicana (banana, currypwder, cheese and pineapple) is my go-to pizza at most "basic" pizzerias. I usually do "varma mackor" (basically toast pizza) this way too😄
At our local restaurant in our city of Lund, the pizza is called Africana or possibly Tutti frutti at some individual restaurant. It contains: Dough, tomato sauce, mozzarella, banana, pineapple, peanuts and a little curry spice on top. The peanuts replace the meat, but you can order it with meat as an extra side dish. Super delicious.
I hate warm banana so that on a pizza is a big no for me lol. BUT curry on pizza is amazing. My favorite is one with ham, pineapple, chicken and curry 🥰 Btw, that's very much a pizza for 1. Maybe 2. 3 or 4 is reaching. You'd only get like 2 slices each or something haha
Two of my favorite pizzas is 1: ham, cheese, banana, curry powder and garlic sauce. 2: Kebab-meat, salad, tomato, cucumber, red union, feta cheese and garlic sauce "a hot pizza" (the salad, cucumber, tomato, feta cheese and sauce is put on after it comes out of the oven. Both really good pizzas and can be found in Stenungsund, Sweden 😁
There are usually 3 sizes of pizza in Sweden, Kids (or small), Standard and Family (or Large/XL) you also have the optional type of "inbakad" which makes the pizza in to the style of a Calzone (Folded pizza essentially), the standard size is usually enough for 2 people or one hungry or larger person and a lot of people like to order a 50-50 pizza if they plan to share it, me and my wife tend to do that as she loves banana and curry and me not so much. The Kids size is about half or 3/4 of a standard pizza in size and the Family is normally 2 1/2 standard pizzas (size vary from restaurant to restaurant), most vegetables are served cold on the pizza unless specified. Though not as common but some do have the option you can mix and match toppings to your choice and end up making some wild creations as long as they have the ingredients for it and if a lot of people order the same (or you yourself order it often enough) it can end up as a standard menu item.
hi great video as always if u ever go to sweden u need to visit Gotland its the biggest island we have a world heritage around the city its wunderful. >D / sry my english isn´t great XD
Im not sure if you are ready for Flygande jacob (flying jacob). It's a chicken dish with bacon, rice, and chilli sauce. Oh, and the most important part is, of course, banana and peanuts.
Banana is a no go on my Pizza. Reminds me of a Swedish Stand-up. He said that his girlfrend like to be punched in the face. And then, quote -> "She didn't use those words. She said that she liked banana on pizza". 😜
The curry banana and curry pineapple combos were very popular in 80s cooking here in sweden. Which probably explains why it became a pizza topping. Also most people who live in apartment buildings use the communal laundry
And to finish of my commenting, my absolute go-to everytime I go back home is this; tomato, cheese, filet of beef, gorgonzola, mushrooms, pineapple, garlic and sauce bearnaise. Can't beat it really.
I always pick a pizza called "Mexico" here where I live in the north of sweden, the pizza has ham, bacon and minced meat and i always ask them to put béarnaise sauce or garlic sauce on and it is delicious. And we do have some special pizzas here, for example; one is called "Lappland Special"(Lappland is a province in the north) it comes with souvas, ham, salami and garlic sauce. (Souvas = cold-smoked inner thigh reindeer meat) and the other one is called "Norrsken Special"("Northern Light special") it comes with reindeer shavings, chanterelle, garlic, ruccola(arugula?) and garlic sauce. :)
Tomato sauce, cheese, pineapple, banana, curry powder, peanuts and either fillet of beef or chicken is a common pizza here in Sweden, we call it an Africana. The savory elements actually balance out the sweet pretty well, sort of like gingersnap/gingerbread cookies with blue cheese, another Swedish invention. For the pizza it can get dry if they aren't generous with the cheese though, so it can be a bit of a miss for that reason. Another variant is tomato sauce, cheese, ham, banana, curry powder, peanuts and bearnaise sauce. It's VERY heavy though, you can almost feel your veins restricting. 😛 Oh and about the laundry situation, it's for rental flats and smaller/older apartments. You have to provide your own washing machine which might not fit and there is always a communal laundry/drying room in any block of flats where you rent. There's a whole culture around it and some people really revert back to viking status if someone steals their laundry time or whatever. 😂
Curry isn't British curry, but curry powder. On bananas. Where I used to live they served a kebab pizza in a semi Calzone version with proper chips/fries on top. "french chef kiss" sooo good. Nowadays there are some places that will serve you half and half. Half of the pizza is savoury with prosciutto or the like, and the other half is dessert pizza with goat cheese and marmalade. Stonking!
The Kebabpizza looks like a Döner rolled out... It's very common in a Dönerbude, also Pizza Sucuk (with turkish style garlic sausage) Pizza Hawaii and Pizza Tuna also are a common thing in Germany....There is a sweet version of Flammekuchen (the Elsass "Pizza") with apple slices and cinnamon, delicious...
Our local pizza place just updated their menu and have added a bunch new pizzas. I tried the "Tropical" pizza with banana, pineapple, mango and curry. It was very tasty. I added garlic kebab sauce to it as well. Some other new fun ones that I want to try are "Tre Kronor" with asparagus, bacon, pork filet, tomato and béarnaise sauce, "Veronese" with buffalo mozzarella, garlic marinated mushrooms, beef filet, jalapeno, olive oil and ruccola and the "Chevré" with goat cheese, buffalo mozzarella, pine nuts, walnuts, mushrooms, honey and ruccola. I just made myself hungry typing this.. Dieting is hard XD
I usually got that pizza, but with peanuts on it too. Love it! And that's a size for one person, but of course you can share. We got much bigger one too, called family pizza. And some are selling even a smaller version. Not all pizzeria places slice. But the place we go to, do. And I have to order my pizza unsliced lol... love eat the edges first if they are little "crusty".
There are cold toppings such as salad, pfefereroni, cucumber. One of my favourite pizza's have tomato sauce, cheese, pesto, salami, cherry tomatoes and as a cool topping ruccola. Delicious!
Sweet and salt goes together! Pineapple and banana for the sweetness, ham for salty, curry for spicy, pizza sauce gives some sour, cheese for umami... Works together like a charm! Add some Jalapeños to get it more spicy.
if u live in a block of flats, washers dont usually come included. Especially if u are just renting. But ofc some people have washer/dryers installed. Im a single guy living in a one room apartment, so i use the communal washing-room where u have to book in advance
to answer your question about when you should/would order an "exotic pizza" (called hawai pizza by most) I think you order it when your friends want pizza and you are not really in the mood for pizza or when you are just too tired to make your own food but at the same time you dont want pizza.
Never seen pizzasallad with carrots! Maybe in another part of the country. We have pizzasallad and it look similarly but without carrots and instead paprika or just cabbage.
Banana, pineapple, curry powder, and chicken pizza, optionally with bearnaise sauce. These are very common in Sweden. It's my go-to pizza if I not sure what to pick, and it's my second favorite pizza.
It's usually not curry sauce but curry powder on the pizzas and yes banana pineapple and curry powder are delicious. There's also one with chicken, banana, peanuts and curry that is also very good!
about washing machines, if you own your place, or if its a insats, you usually have washing machine in your home. if you rent then there might be the option to have one for a slightly higher rent. otherwise the option for rents is a a "tvättstuga" or "washing cabin" where you can make appointment to wash. usually its a room with 2-3machines that you get access to for 3-4hours. and nobody can enter other then you. there are older versions where people could take or steal laundry.
23:30 at my moms place you just notice how the house stop shaking, and one could figure out that the laundry is done. I don't have a washing machine at my place.
In sweden it's ONE pizza for ONE person, we order our own and dont share :) Then you got the "Family-pizza" thats bigger and should feed like 3-4 persons. And just one more thing, its not curry sauce, it's just Curry-mixed spices.
Many people have a separate building with washer/driers in them and you book time, so she is likely having to leave the apartment to get it before the next person shows up. I enjoy the Calzone with kebab and sallad and Santa Fe sauce in it, quite tasty.
There is a law in Sweden that says that all apartment buildings must have a laundry room, unless the landlord chooses to install a washing machine and dryer in each apartment. Most apartments have a laundry room and not a washing machine not in the apartment itself. In fact, in most places, it may be better to have a laundry room than to have your own washing machine, some may have four large washing machines more of the type you use in laundries, and maybe one for carpets, so you get to wash everything even if you have loads of laundry. Dryers must also be included, but there is almost always a drying room as well.
every apartment have a shared laundry room as a standard but you could ofcourse have your own machines in the apartment if you wish. best pizza is chees, tomatosauce, pinaple, banana, curry marinated chicken and whole penuts, its called a "flygande jacob" (flying jacob) it derives from a clasic swedis dish wit the same ingrediens but you eat it with rice.
@Dwayne's View One of my favourite swedish pizzas are with Chicken, curry, banana, peanuts, and you order a bit of garlic sauce on the side.. God damn thats good!
Usually the banana/curry pizzas you find in my part of Sweden comes with chicken and peanuts too. Which makes it more of a sweet and savory pizza. It's really nice and definitly worth a try. Also, yes it's very common to not have a laundry machine in an apartment in Sweden. Atleast for smaller apartments. Instead we got a shared laundry room in the basement of the building, shared by all the residents in that building.
My daughters go to pizza is always the kebab pizza, but I usually switch between ham and shrimp; chicken, pineapple and curry powder or the kebab pizza.
I'm not sure about the place she is at, but I never seen 'curry sauce' on a pizza in Sweden, curry powder is quite common thou. I think that is what they got at her local pizzeria to but she assumed 'curry' meant sauce not powder (as far as I can see from looking at it, it looks like powder and cheese, not sauce). Sidenote: I dislike it but my mother love it. My prefered pizza is mushrooms, jalapenos and tzatziki (+tomatoasauce and cheese). P.S. That is a one person pizza.
My favourite pizzas are the classic Hawaiian pizza (ham, cheese and pineapple) and ''Tefat'' which is a double baked pizza with shrimp, ham, cheese and mushrooms
Where I come from we do have a pizza they call "Tropicale", on this bugger there are tomato, cheese, bacon(slices, not diced), onions, pineapple, banana, curry and kebabsauce. Oh, I almost forgot the "piece de resistance!" as well, SHRIMPS. Worth a try, you'll love it or hate it. IF I have I do add quite a lot of cayennepepper to the mix. Because why not? ;)
My favorite pizza topping is tenderloin, egg and bearnaise sauce😋 and usually a pizza's of that size is for one person, we have a larger pizza refered to as family pizza for sharing and for small children most places offer a smaller size. Most apartement buildings in Sweden have a laundy room but a lot of people also have a washing mashine in their home, sometimes it's included and sometimes you have to buy one yourself if you want one, these days most new building or renovated buildings have a washing mashine included. I have a laundry room in the building and a washing mashine in my apartement.
I have a few good ones. Pork fillet, white asparagus and a dash of bernaise sauce on top. Banana and curry is also good, with or without pineapple, peanuts, chicken or ham.
I’m from Sweden and I always order the Hawaii Pizza, and it’s with tomato sauce, cheese shredded ham and pineapple bites. But I always put bacon on the pizza because I love the flavor combination of the sweet pineapple and the salty bacon mixed together. It is so delicious 🤤
I would like to add that for the last 25 years or so, most washing machines in Sweden display how much time your laundry cycle is going to take, so it is easy to just make a timer alarm on your phone based on that.
The basic version of Kebab pizza is fairly common in Sweden as well. And yes, you can get fries on your Kebab pizza. Look up "Vulkan pizza" (Volcano pizza) for an interesting pizza. I have not tried it yet. I have not tried that specific curry pizza, but I would if I saw it at my local pizzeria.
Kebabpizza or Gyrospizza with bearnaisesauce are the best choices. We usually order four different pizzas and slice them into four peaces then we all have four different pizzas each time
Pineapple and banana on pizza is a watershed in Sweden, you either love it or you hate it - no in between. And banana/pineapple and curry powder actually go very well with each other.
it really is a 50/50. I don't like banana or the curry we mostly have in sweden. and I'm allergic to pineapple 😅
Pineapple has no business being on pizza. you know im right. it eats you back
@@sebb999995 Sometimes I like pineapple on pizza - if I like what I have on the pizza, it's right for me.
Yeah, my favorite pizza all categories. But why the hell does everyone think it's curry sauce? You can see the sprinkled powder with your own eyes.
There is no curry sauce on the pizzas. Its the curry powder, not the sauce. One of my nieces has the banana+curry pizza as her favourite... :(
The pizza's with banana are way better with curry sauce, then again its not strange if you havent seen it.
Personally my favorite is about as the one she has, but with chicken and peanuts 😄
Its very common with laundry rooms. Every apartment complex have them (almost all).
Some have even up to 100! It's crazy! (i am from Sweden)
Hawaii pizza is originally from Canada.
@@omisuookamii have seen "prinsessa" as well but it has shrimp on.
That or “Greven” which translates to “The Count”
I have never see a hawaii pizza with banana and curry powder here where I live in Sweden. That is a different pizza.
It's really common to have a shared laundry when living in a flat, I have never heard of a person not having access to one
Pizzas with pineapple and banana comes from a traditional Swedish meal called flygande Jacob and usually it's curry, banana, pineapple, nuts and chicken
Flygande jakob is with chili sauce, not curry sauce!
People substitute the chili for curry because it's more accessible. A lot of recipes call for curry as well. I didn't know chili was traditional for a long time because I learned it to include curry.
@@TheMuffinBagare I am Swedish and I eat it with curry
Har aldrig ätit med curry endast med en sås gjord på chilisås och grädde
This is one of my favorite pizza :)
If you visit sweden, and order pizza, remember that the pizza-sallad could be little different between different restaurants
yeah, a pizza salad is a vinegar based slaw
She is mistaken that it is curry sauce on the banana pizza. It is actually curry spices on top of the pizza. My favorite is still any pizza with bacon and egg. 😊
That pizza sallad is also a swedish "invention".
Vinegar and oil, plus salt and pepper, and sometimes a little garlic. (Sugar is very optional.)
I always say: "If there's a way to ruin a Pizza - a Swede have tried it!"
I can just check the local menues and find almost how many strange Pizzas as you like... like "Quattro Christmas Pizza" or "EastWestIndie Pizza".
you have to be ready to ruin some pizza to find the ones that works
You got to remember, Iceland has sheep head pizza, so we are only the second wierdest!!!!
Have you EVER tried this pizza? If no stfu.
I've yet to find surströmming pizza. I'm not saying it doesn't exist. I've just not found it.
Sauce on the side?
@@johantillgren1510 the bearnaise-sauce is on the side yes. i use it to dip the crust
Tuna, ham, banana, pinapple, curry and jalapeno is my current favourite topping and it's really tasty. Sometimes with a bit of garlic sauce too. :)
I accually thought that I were the only one who did that!! :O :D
Oh! I love pizza with mango chutney!!! Chicken, mango chutney, peanuts and curry sauce mmm yummy!!!
The salad and cucumber are put on the pizza after the pizza is cooked/baked 😊
Hi Dwayne,
I'd say that everyone living in any type of house has a washing machine whiole most people living in flats (rented apartments) does not. They do not have the funds to keep separate washing spaces with achines going so there you'd find washing machines in every flat (normally only a few flats together)
Pizza in sweden is a science.
I doubt it is rarely sold since pretty much every Swedish pizzeria got it, unless they are fancy Italian style pizzas.
One of my favorite pizzas here in sweden is with ham, banana and shrimps. So good😄👌🏼
Banana is fine on pizza, especially together with peanuts and curry (bacon ham and something salt).
Banana on a pizza is SOOO GOOD 🤣🙏🏻
Having a washing machine in your home is considered upper class in Sweden, at least in the cities! Love your vibe btw:)
Today, my go to ranking for pizza in Sweden without any order:
-Pinapple, chicken, curry, chili, banana, peanuts.
-Tuna, jalapeno, pinapple, curry
-"4 seasons" cheese, shrimp, clams, mushrooms, ham, olives (in different sections)
Back in the days when I were training alot I could call my local pizzeria and say my name and they could say "the ordinary?"... that were a kebab pizza with (of cause) pinapple, ham and half of it with spicy sauce and the other with béarnaise.
My local Pizzeria has 119 difrent pizzas, and then you got sallads, and other stuff on top =)
Very often in blocks of flats there isn't really space for private washing machines since the flats tend to be small.
We also have pizzasallad, cabbage salad with italian seasoning, with we eat together with the pizza, yummie 😊 but I have nerver got one with carrots 😊
Dwanyne! when you come to sweden i sooo need to treat you to some swedish fastfoods (britts usally love them )
i promisse you if you come to anny place near me ill treat you to especially 3 things no:1 Flygande jacob pizza (pizza with curry powder/spice, banana, salted peanuts, chiken) no:2 Sotare (knäckerbröds sanwitch with a pan-fried fillé of herring with finely chopped red-onion creme fraiche/sour cream and chopped parsly) and finally my pesonal fav no:3 a Tunnbrödsrulle
My favorite is one with ham, pineapple, chicken and curry 🥰
Btw, that's very much a pizza for 1. Maybe 2. 3 or 4 is reaching. You'd only get like 2 slices each or something haha
There is no curry sauce, it's curry powder (spice).
Oh and about the laundry situation, it's for rental flats and smaller/older apartments.
As a Swede, I was expecting a Volcano pizza when it said "really weird pizzas". And yes, that's a thing.
Delicious!
I LOVE banana and curry pizza (with ham). At my pizzeria it’s called a Africana. I also love Hawaiian (pineapple ham and curry)
Apartment buildings in Sweden always has shared laundry rooms
Banana on Pizza = Epic, normaly combined with chicken, peanuts, curry and bacon. Based on a classic dish called the flying Jakob.
That pizza works really fine on a hot summer day with a cold lager or four.... five..... :)
23:30 at my moms place you just notice how the house stop shaking, and one could figure out that the laundry is done. I don't have a washing machine at my place.
We don't have laundry mats, they may exist but I haven't seen one, so laudry facilities at home is pretty essential
Pizzasallad= 500 g white cabbage
1 tsp salt
1/2 dl rapeseed oil
2 tbsp white wine vinegar
black pepper
It's actually currypowder not sauce.
At least at the pizzas I've seen.
And yes, the cucumbers and lettuce usually is put on the pizza after the oven
Banana, Masaman Curry, Peanuts is my to-go-to on my savory pizzas. And a lot of Swedish kebab sauce
every apartment have a shared laundry room as a standard but you could ofcourse have your own machines in the apartment if you wish.
best pizza is chees, tomatosauce, pinaple, banana, curry marinated chicken and whole penuts, its called a "flygande jacob" (flying jacob) it derives from a clasic swedis dish wit the same ingrediens but you eat it with rice.
Real thin slises of bandana is a must. Or els it take over the whole pizza.... God bless and much love from Sweden 🇸🇪
I love a Prescatore with banana and curry on it. So that is a pizza with shrimps, mussels, tuna, banana and curry.
