- This is a basic modeling tutorial of Maya for the beginners, creating a simple hammer. I assumed that the viewer already knows the interface of Maya. Only the modeling part has been described step by step. Texture and material will be discussed in the next video.

Thanks for simple and basic tutorial to the point. I am using 3ds max. Before this tutorial I model my hammer using reference image and take a non-efficient way by model top in 3 different primitive and then attaching and bridging. But your method is very concise and very quick and fast. Thanks again. Kindly upload more videos.

When trying to scale won't get that global and local axis toggle switch
4:30 was a bit rushed for my understanding... How did you separate the two tips from the hammer with the Extrude function? Extruding only separate the "layers" of the face, and not the whole polygon for me :/

I'm not getting that little blue toggle button that allows you to switch between global and local access. How do I activate that? Also that you you're tutorial is very helpful.
Hi Bill, when you are giving 'Extrude' command automatically that blue button will appear just beside the Extrude manipulator circle. After giving the command don't click outside. If still you can't see that there can be a graphics problem. In that case you can change the preference of Maya from My Document path and then try it again.

How can I cut diagonally like in min 7:54 ? I'm using the multi-cut tool and the edge loop tool and done see any option for diagonal cuts
Yes, Multi cut tool will work for this. For that you need to drag the tool from out of the geometry.

How do you quickly change from global to local axes? Is it a keyboard shortcut?
After giving extrude command a small sky color circle will appear in the viewport just beside the tool. You can select and deselect to toggle the axis.
You can also hit "Control + Shift + Right click" and select the axis

4:34 how make separate polygons?
By switching to the Local Axis of extrusion. How to do it, I just have explained after that.
@@RajMajiart its creating new faces for me so those 2 local object dont separate. how can i switch off creating new faces and just edit (scale) those already existing faces?
@@ShajesFidgetTutorial Whenever you are extruding, new faces will be created. If you want to scale the existing faces then take scale tool and scale it down. For scaling don't extrude it.
@@Trimitkala I'm having the same problem. When I select the faces and scale them it just makes new faces. It does the same thing when I extrude them too.

my global and local selection tool(that power like option) is not appering while i'm scaling..
After giving Extrude command don't select any other tool. Keep working with Extrude manipulator... Scale with this tool only.

How can I get into polygon mode? There is no option for that
Right click then select Object Mode.

You can use MultiCutTool. You need to drag the tool on the surface.

Right click on the model - select vertex component - press 'W' in the keyboard to select the move tool - and now you can modify the shape.
