I'm only 24, but this is essentially how I got my home theatre started 5 years ago from bartering and buying used gear from the projector to the acoustic panels being made. Very relatable story and awesome content!
Me too. I remembered back then when I was accidentally connected my stereo speakers in quadraphonic surround circuit. Days after that I got my first 5 channel surround sound from just 2 channel Sansui tuner/amplifier. Back then I was 12.
My first home theater was a Sherwood Home Theater in a box. It's all about getting your foot in the door then learning how to optimize what you have in your room before making the next evolutionary step.

It was 1988. I bought a Sanyo 26 inch stereo tv. Got a svhs vcr. Bought 4 Realistic speakers that were made my Acoustic Research. Paired to a Dolby Pro Logic Optimus receiver. Raiders of the Lost Ark never sounded so good😁 Many iterations later im getting the Sony 715ES installed tomorrow. Oh.. In my 1st theater in my garage i still have the same Panasonic hanging but haven't watched in 2 years since building a room on the back of my house. Glad to see your dreams coming true and ever evolving.
I don't know why it took so long for this to show up in my feed, but I'm glad it did! You have such a such an entertaining way of bringing us along with you on your journey. I was genuinely surprised at how modest your beginnings were. The amount of thought, effort, and patience that went into getting from there to here is an inspiration.
This year i was finally able to upgrade my AVR to a more updated version and also buy a new powered subwoofer, which improved the sound quality by quite a bit. Honestly i remember when this channel was small and had no more than 5k subs, and remember seeing all this great gear being reviewed, and it finally opened my eyes to the Home Theater world, which enabled me to have a new goal to look forward to. It has been a journey, and i'm glad to be a part of it. You should be proud of what you have achieved, along with all the people that follow you!

I stated in 1994 with a 19" Magnavox TV and a JVC VHS player hooked up to a JVC Dolby Pro-Logic receiver paired with two 10" MTX box speakers... I watched many movies on that setup for about 6-8 months or so, and then added a small Kipsch center channel and some MTX bookshelf speakers for my surrounds to have my first official "surround sound" setup! And once I heard sound effects coming from behind me while watching Jurassic Park and Twister, my whole world changed! Lol
This is a great story Youthman. Thanks for sharing it with us. My first "home theater" in my living room had a 36" RCA CRT TV, Cerwin Vega FLR that I purchased in the 80's for music, Realistic center and surround, Sony 10" sub, and Yamaha receiver. Yup, patchwork, but I couldn't afford all new stuff. My favorite movie to demo was The Mask of Zorro. The intro was cool and the explosion near the end rocked the room. Many years have passed as I have swapped out different pieces for what I have today in my dedicated theater room.
Honestly when I started watching reviews of home theaters I also thought "must be nice to be rich!" But I realized if you save up, have patience, and more importantly, have the wife approval factor, you can slowly build a great set up. (you gotta have the WAF 🤣) My wife and i now have an amazing 5.2.4 dedicated home theater set up and guess what? NO...you don't have to be rich! Love this video! Thank you for sharing.
I just tore my HT out, kept the SVS SB3000 subs, went with a pair of KLH Model 5's a Cambridge CXN V2 Streamer and the XTZ Edge A2-400 amp. That is it, two pieces of gear and 4 speakers/subs. I hate to say this, but it blows away my SVS Ultra 5.2 system with two Emotiva XPA amps. All gone, replaced with a Pangea Vulcan Audio rack reduced to three shelves holding the streamer and amp. Very clean looking and is unobtrusive in the room. Very happy.
Wow it's amazing where you were to now it's good that people see where you were that way they realize what it takes to have a dedicated room you are right patient is the key I believe one day I'll have a dedicated room but it will take time
Great video of your home cinema journey. I think the most of us who watch your Chanel can identify with your journey of upgrading your home cinema. My home cinema started with a stereo setup and small tv, and only got bigger and with more speakers. Now I’m planning a dedicated home cinema room.
I seen this video and now after a few days the verdict is in, this is one of the most brilliant RUclips videos I've ever seen, and it has nothing to do with theater, audio or video it is the fact that you were able to take a large room and make it look like a grand hall and give the feeling that I'm actually in a real movie theater, a room 10 times bigger than it actually is, BRAVO.

Im 40 and i started out back in 2001 with 2 15”, speakers, center and surround also technics speakers, technic ac receiver with a decoder lol. All Klipsch and Yamaha now. Still not done bc it never ends!!! 🤣 next is the man cave cooming soon! 💪🏽
His first setup is basically todays equivalent of my setup, this guy has such a great attitude and he's so right, he says exactly what ive been telling myself, "just be patient" . Well i can happily say i got my first 2 pair of klipsch speakers today (4 speakers btw), I am so happy and i don't envy this man at all i envy the hustle and just like him im moving on to the next. surround sound reciever that dosen't burn out in a year because it cost my soul here i come!!!
Loved this more than any other video. I, much like you have some kick ass things.. but it's not because i am rich. I certainly do Ok.. but it's been how I prioritize my spending and doing things incrementally. I have not chased the newest options and found some incredible deals used or on sale. It's been a long process and many steps along the way. The great thing, nobody cares. I go over to a friend's house who is just starting and everyone roles up thier sleeves to share their knowledge and have fun doing some work together. It's nice just to have something to connect on these days...

This is encouraging. Starting out with a bonus room in a new house we are building. Starting out with LCR, and rear channels in the ceiling because it was the most cost effective but plan to change them to Atmos speakers once I can get ear level speakers for LCR. Love the channel and can't build up piece by piece.

Your finished product with the JBL La Scalas and those subs, the way it looks with that blue lighting coming down and the rise-up screen, is what got me wanting to build a dedicated home theater in my basement similar to yours. Then I realized it'd be better to move and find somewhere with higher than 8.5" ceilings either on the first floor or basement, but soon after, the lockdowns hit and prices skyrocketed for new homes. At this point, I'm making due with a projector home theater in my bedroom and an 83" LG OLED TV in family room, but this kind of setup is my dream!
Thank you Youthman, for creating this video. I’ve been feeling exactly the way you describe lately. Seeing these 50k, 100k, 800k home theaters has gotten me thinking I’ll never finish. Fortunately I do have a room I can use for a dedicated theater. I’m working tapering and bedding right now and have a long way to go.

On point yet again, Yt! Good HT is a journey. I was going to add, not a destination. But over the past 3-5 years, there is recognition that some of us are in the End Game. Once you get 12-16ft wide screens and 5000 lumens+ from laser 4k projectors like the Sony 5000es or Eclipse, and a well constructed room build, you're pretty much done. Electronics gear like processors amps and projectors are a moving target and can always be swapped out. I used to be on a 2-3 year projector upgrade cycle from 1999 through 2012, then slowed to 5-10 years Speakers, amps can easily go 15-20 years or more. Processors might need more often, though it appears now is a good time to buy into a recent model to get maybe 10 years or more out of it.
I realize is an old post, but I hope you'll see this reply anyway. The fact that you call it End Game just means you are personally entering late-phase A/V enthusiasm ;) There are so many amazing technologies to look forward to right now. Consider the (newly-built ATM) Sphere and what they are doing there, then tell me we're "pretty much done"! The highly-immersive home theater experience that will be available for people like us to purchase even just 10-20 years from now would be absolutely mind boggling to us now. Stay interested!
Your channel and this video is very inspirational. My love for home theater started in my late teens when my parents saw my brother's and I's love for movies. They bought us a Koss all in one 5.1 surround sound system. In hindsight it was a terrible system but back then when I first heard it I was in awe and from that point on I've become a big fan of home theater. Right now I have a Klipsch system it's not the greatest but it's like you say to just enjoy what you have instead of worrying about the next big thing. I know one day I'll have the system of my dreams but right now I'm gonna enjoy what I have because at the end of the day that's what it's all about.

Probably my favorite of your videos.😃👍🏾 Your opening line about it taking time is a point that is often overlooked. My own journey started back in 2006, when we moved into the house. Just like you, I found the room and given the barn shaped ceiling, i used tape and old door moldings to spec out how big of a screen i could put up. The framing stayed up and sitting in front of it was my 36 inch Mitsubishi 4:3 flat screen, Yamaha RX-V995, PS3, and JBL SCS125 sub and satellite kit. From that point on there have been some gradual changes based on need and some based on wants. At every point, I try to make sure that I give it time to sink in. Going from not knowing how to make proper use of the settings on my then Yamaha RX-V995, to now using the minidsp 2x4HD and REW to time align subs even before running the AVR calibrations from my Pioneer Elite SC-99 ,etc. Most people that don't know the journey think that these systems come together over night (they don't). Thanks for sharing your journey.
Great journey you have been on. It is a great setup and it is really inspiring to see the proces you have been through. I am living in an appartment and I feel I have reach the limit of how big a system I can build without neighbour war :D Got a SVS subwoofer on 2 inch cork plates to prevent the bass desturbing my neighbours, and my front Monitor Audio is on cork too driven by a Marantz reciever producing lovely warm sound. The neighbours have stated that they do not experience being desturbed by sound/bass noise as usual after cork installment. I did use cork at the bagend of my listening room too, the mid and upper sound range and acoustics have defantly changed for the better, as far as I can hear. I do not have any equipment to measure if cork do make an acoustic diference.
This is why every man needs his own home. I've been focusing on making my place off and all my kids are just about grown and I've always been a audiophile, have had loud home theater innthe last and have always had loud car audio. 2.5 years from now ill start focusing on my home theater mine will be 12x18 and I'm not sure if I should vault my ceiling or leave it flat at 8ft. I really can't wait till I get started on it. With as cheap and powerful as car audio is now a days I might end up useing car audio components like subs and amps. Pretty sure I'll be going with 2 18's, maybe 2 24's in a infinite baffle. Or if I can use more room I might do a crazy box build and do a 6th order or something fancy but that'll be a whole project ill have to look into and weigh the pros and cons. If I do I infinite baffle should I port it into my crawl space or port it straight out side? Just worried the sound might carry out side real bad but I only have 2 people within 1 mile of me, but with that few people in an area any disturbance will be obvious and I don't want to deal with cry baby neighbors. Thats the reason I bought land in BFE
He's right, it doesn't all happen over night for most people. The most important thing is that you just get started and work your way up. You'll learn a lot along the way and you'll still probably have a better setup than 99% of people if you use that knowledge.
Love this video! For most of us, getting the home theater we truly want will take a journey of saving, learning, patience, upgrading, and time. But it's all worth in the end. Keep ur journey going...never stop!
First time I saw a video this long on RUclips without skipping any parts , love your videos 👌 Ive been building my hometheater for 3 years now. I live on an island so its always a struggle to find any equipment and other stuff for the building. Building a dedicated home theaters is uncommon here, so it's been a bit of a lonely journey for me lol

My media room was not enjoyed by my family the way I anticipated. I enjoy mine but my family does not. I actually went on you tube becaue I felt that sense of being lonely journey. My father was in the movie theater business for 47 years so being in a movie theater and my relationship to movies is deep. I mean for 35 years I could just walk into any theater in the national chain for free. By the time I owned my own home and had a room built my kids had gotten older and my wife does not share this love. So my booming bass and my film room is the joke in my house. The truth is I wish they loved it the way I do. I am the kid from Cinema Pardissio.
The reality is most people do not share the same hobbies and passion even within families. Whether you play golf, fish, collect stamps, NFT’s or Home Theater. Add to head to find people outside my local community as well as online that share my same passion

It's nice that you showed the journey and that just like many things in life is not an overnight success story, you've got to work to get to where you want to be. Been a home theater enthusiast for 20 years and I love this video. Very few people go out and spend $100k to outfit their theater at one time. The rest of us do it over years.
I'm not starting small lol. Now that I have a good paying job I'm going high end. Of course not all at once, I have a 3.0 channel setup and bought a 3 way channel bowers and wilkins 700s center channel with 2 Arendals 1961 L/R channel speakers (small room). I'm already blown away and there is a good amount of bass. I do however plan to add surrounds and a sub woofer for a 5.1 channel setup. This will be my target next year. For now, I'm very happy with the results.
This seriously makes me tear up. I remember starting with a Samsung soundbar with 2 wireless speakers, and a wireless sub. Early this year I did the mistake to buy an HTIB, and people told me to build instead. Took the time and effort, small changes from the AVR, to a pair of 600m, then upgraded my centre to 504c, then added a PB 3000, then 2 svs prime elevation, added 2 rb 10, then recently got a pair of the 8000f, and put my 600m as my surround. Took 5 years just to figure out, and i always enjoy the journey. One day i will hit my end goal of having a 9.4.6 dedicated home theatre with Kaleidescape, and a really good projector. One day!
Some real good ideas and information. I currently have x4 Klipsch RP-600Ms, x1 Klipsch RP 404-C, x1 SVS PB-2000 along with a Denon X3700H AVR. This was my first plunge into real home theatre/hifi and I am NOT disappointed. The two things you've got me debating now are getting custom cabinets made, and also using a projector. I'll have to do some comparisons against higher end OLED TVs as long as screen size is adequate. More research is needed... Appreciate the video
Love you with all my heart Youthman! My theater is a 27" Sony Trinitron TV, it's 480i and has 60hrt, and is a CRT TV. That is our immersive display. We are using a Sony STR 2010 receiver from 1990. And 2 Sony bookshelve speakers rated at 20 watts. Am interested in adding a subwoofer in the next 10 to 15 years.
Great video. My home theater room is evolving nicely. Just had Valencia seating delivered and the Arendal 1723 monitors arrive next week. Gradually upgrading as time goes by!

Awesome video , i started even before surround even started i had my speaker B's behind me as rears just for the effect ..lol , with a 19" tv ..lol then to my new home i got a 52" then a 60" then a 106" projector screen and i loved every transition.

I'm noticing one major difference between our Home Theater journeys Youthman... just how much you've upgraded your equipment over the years compared to me! Since I got my JVC receiver in 1994 I've only upgraded my AVR four times since then... And I've only had 3 sets of "ear level" speakers total in 27 years with 4 different subs! : )
Part of my journey was at one point I wanted to have heard in my own home as many Klipsch Speakers as possible Which is why I have owned over 50 pair LOL
Lol, I started out with a HTIAB from crutchfield about 25 years ago. It was a Onkyo 6.1 that .1 was week af. Now I have Klipsch reference premier series speakers Denon Atmos receiver, Yamaha integrated SVS subs Audio Technica TT. Sony Bravia 65” Sony 4k blueray…. Then I watch this channel and realize I need a projector!!!
Never knew you had double sliding glass doors to the right of the room. You've done pretty well to conceal them with that black heavy duty acoustic dampening and light block out curtains. Great job in positioning that right surround speaker considering the lack of mounting options available, due to the glass doors behind. Also being able to mount the projector behind the rear wall was also a handy option to have. Get rid of that fan noise and extreme exhaust heat. From an empty room to what you have now, you have evolved the room to cinema specs extremely well .....
My HT has been a 4 year build process that still isn't done or anything fancy, just tasteful. Lot of my equipment was a "rip the band-aid off once" purchase but in the end was the right choice. Hindsight, I could have saved in some areas by going used but my area didn't have much to offer so I went with new. Big ticket items were the Sony VPL-VW285ES projector, Denon AVR-X6500H and Klipsch Ref III speaker system. If I had it to do over I would go with the forward cabinet setup like yours. For people wanting to do a HT on a budget just go for it, you will be surprised what you can build on a budget if you dumpster the internet for used equipment.
What great video, you right is a long journey when we don’t have the funds right way, mine toke a long time too, I remember I started with a Sony tv the first flat screen and a all in one box Panasonic home theater. Is not only saving to buy new things but also knowledge and make more educated decisions.
Your sliding door solution inspired me when I upgraded to 7 channels, my surround right speaker is floating over a window, but I had to come from below instead of above, so I grabbed a flat steel bar and used wood to shim if flush to the window frame, screwed them into stud, the bar extends above my couch and I mounted the speaker to it, had I not seen your videos I probably would have dismissed 7 channels as a possibility.
Great video. When you climb a mountain you have to look back and see how far you have come. Video reminds me of when my parents bought a 65in Mitsubishi tv. Had to build a cabinet around it because it weighed 315 lbs. and was not moving.
Thank you for sharing. Everyone needs a hobby. As much as i enjoy Cinema, my goal is to hear classical music at it's finest. This is difficult as the recording/ mastering plays a huge role. Watching this has given me some good ideas. Great result.

Nice job Michael!!! I used to work at Highland Superstores, Silo, and Fretter WAY back when! And then Best Buy when they first came to the Chicago area. It absolutely amazing how technology has changed over the past 30+ years. I had 2 60GB PS3 that had YLOD! The first was covered under warranty, but no the second. I’d still like to get it repaired at some point so it could be used as an SACD player. Too bad my Panasonic 820 won’t play those. It works magic for DVD and BluRay!
You can find great deals on used audio equipment. Most of my stuff when I started out was used, but it was all super high quality stuff. Get to know people around you that you can trade or barter with. My previous boss was really into HT stuff, most of my original stuff came from buying his used stuff when he upgraded.
The biggest upgrades to me were: *The high-end wooden stage upfront (replacing the crappy wooden frame) *Painting the wall color grey *Replacing Klipsch with JTR front stage *Replacing seats
My first "home theater" if you could call it that was a Bose Cinemate series II system with sub and two satellite speakers from Craigslist too for $200 which didn't sound to bad and loud for what it was, with a 47" LG LCD 1080p TV. Now I have an LG 65" 4K OLED TV which I had for a few years but recently added a Klipsch system which sounds much better, louder and more bass. Its not top notch but I enjoy the sound with two R-625fa, center R-52C, two surround R-41M (total $799) sub R-12SW ($189) with a Yamaha TSR-700 (RX-V6A) for ($400) which i had for just a month so far. And so far love it

Hello there Michael: Its kinda wierd that your current JTR center channel has the same setup as your first Klipsch center channel if you were to stand it on its side. I mean witht the 2 drivers flanking the square horn and you kinda went back to your stacked 15s in a sense with your Captivator 4000s even though they are single dual-18" driver subs. Oh and i had an idea for a smaller version of the Noesis 212 called the Noesis 204. I bet he could get a smaller compression driver made for those smaller speakers with 2 4" bass drivers and could have a really good pair of speakers for on your desk or maybe in a theater room as surrounds where Jeffs larger speakers might be a bit too much and that is including his single speakers. Oh and they could be priced much more affordably as well and the compression driver if he coudl get one of the same quality made but smaller could be a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the one he uses in his big speakers. I bet he would love to mull that over and possibly adding a lineup of all-weather (outdoor) speakers and subs to his inventory so if you wanted, have a full JTR outdoor set of speakers on your patio as well. I think those additions would do well for your newer buddy Jeff Permanian. See if you could run those ideas of mine by him as I REFUSE to join Twitter or Facebook cause of how censorious they have become. Jen Psaki has came out and stated that the WH is censoring what they deem "misinformation" on COVID FOR Facebook which IS IN FACT collusion in wich they found NO EVIDENCE to support that Trump was colluding with Russia to steal the 2016 election in which that whole mess went on for 3 DAMN YEARS and i got sick of it after a while so that is why I think you should start a Discord server as well. Make it as an alternative for those who don't want to join Facebook cause of low or zero trust like me. I bet you anything it would be just as popular as the Facebook group. That and you really should look into the alternative social media plaforms as well as SubscribeStar or maybe start dumping all of your videos onto Odysee which is a RUclips alternative that PAYS BETTER than RUclips and could be an alternative for your viewers who are looking for something else to watch your videos on cause they are sick of RUclips not getting notifications of when you put a new video out there cause of how broken the algorithm is and would be another great income stream for you in which your viewers could support you on. Just thought I also get you look into these alternative social media and video platforms as well and I reallydo hope you shoot my ideas by Jeff cause i think he might like them and I would love to hear back from him If he does respond back to you.
Really great video, thank you for sharing. I often look at home theaters and wonder how that person got to where they are and how their home theater came about. Well, this video answers that question. Your video helps inspire others, including myself, to envision what a room could be given some planning and forethought. My home theater right now is a part of the living room. But given time, through research and planning I hope to have something I could be proud to share with family and friends. Wow what a journey. I love it! I do want to ask about the amps and other gear etc would like to see a video on that. Last if I was going to make a change it would be the carpet and the popcorn machine.

Me too. I remembered back then when I was accidentally connected my stereo speakers in quadraphonic surround circuit. Days after that I got my first 5 channel surround sound from just 2 channel Sansui tuner/amplifier. Back then I was 12.
My first home theater was a Sherwood Home Theater in a box. It's all about getting your foot in the door then learning how to optimize what you have in your room before making the next evolutionary step.
Been saving up $100 per month for some time that way when I get into a house instead of a hotel I’ll be able to start building my home theatre

It was 1988. I bought a Sanyo 26 inch stereo tv. Got a svhs vcr. Bought 4 Realistic speakers that were made my Acoustic Research. Paired to a Dolby Pro Logic Optimus receiver. Raiders of the Lost Ark never sounded so good😁
Many iterations later im getting the Sony 715ES installed tomorrow. Oh.. In my 1st theater in my garage i still have the same Panasonic hanging but haven't watched in 2 years since building a room on the back of my house. Glad to see your dreams coming true and ever evolving.

This year i was finally able to upgrade my AVR to a more updated version and also buy a new powered subwoofer, which improved the sound quality by quite a bit. Honestly i remember when this channel was small and had no more than 5k subs, and remember seeing all this great gear being reviewed, and it finally opened my eyes to the Home Theater world, which enabled me to have a new goal to look forward to. It has been a journey, and i'm glad to be a part of it. You should be proud of what you have achieved, along with all the people that follow you!

I stated in 1994 with a 19" Magnavox TV and a JVC VHS player hooked up to a JVC Dolby Pro-Logic receiver paired with two 10" MTX box speakers... I watched many movies on that setup for about 6-8 months or so, and then added a small Kipsch center channel and some MTX bookshelf speakers for my surrounds to have my first official "surround sound" setup! And once I heard sound effects coming from behind me while watching Jurassic Park and Twister, my whole world changed! Lol
This is a great story Youthman. Thanks for sharing it with us. My first "home theater" in my living room had a 36" RCA CRT TV, Cerwin Vega FLR that I purchased in the 80's for music, Realistic center and surround, Sony 10" sub, and Yamaha receiver. Yup, patchwork, but I couldn't afford all new stuff. My favorite movie to demo was The Mask of Zorro. The intro was cool and the explosion near the end rocked the room. Many years have passed as I have swapped out different pieces for what I have today in my dedicated theater room.
Honestly when I started watching reviews of home theaters I also thought "must be nice to be rich!" But I realized if you save up, have patience, and more importantly, have the wife approval factor, you can slowly build a great set up. (you gotta have the WAF 🤣) My wife and i now have an amazing 5.2.4 dedicated home theater set up and guess what? NO...you don't have to be rich! Love this video! Thank you for sharing.

I just tore my HT out, kept the SVS SB3000 subs, went with a pair of KLH Model 5's a Cambridge CXN V2 Streamer and the XTZ Edge A2-400 amp. That is it, two pieces of gear and 4 speakers/subs. I hate to say this, but it blows away my SVS Ultra 5.2 system with two Emotiva XPA amps. All gone, replaced with a Pangea Vulcan Audio rack reduced to three shelves holding the streamer and amp. Very clean looking and is unobtrusive in the room. Very happy.

Great video of your home cinema journey. I think the most of us who watch your Chanel can identify with your journey of upgrading your home cinema. My home cinema started with a stereo setup and small tv, and only got bigger and with more speakers. Now I’m planning a dedicated home cinema room.
I seen this video and now after a few days the verdict is in, this is one of the most brilliant RUclips videos I've ever seen, and it has nothing to do with theater, audio or video it is the fact that you were able to take a large room and make it look like a grand hall and give the feeling that I'm actually in a real movie theater, a room 10 times bigger than it actually is, BRAVO.

Im 40 and i started out back in 2001 with 2 15”, speakers, center and surround also technics speakers, technic ac receiver with a decoder lol. All Klipsch and Yamaha now. Still not done bc it never ends!!! 🤣 next is the man cave cooming soon! 💪🏽
His first setup is basically todays equivalent of my setup, this guy has such a great attitude and he's so right, he says exactly what ive been telling myself, "just be patient" . Well i can happily say i got my first 2 pair of klipsch speakers today (4 speakers btw), I am so happy and i don't envy this man at all i envy the hustle and just like him im moving on to the next. surround sound reciever that dosen't burn out in a year because it cost my soul here i come!!!

I, much like you have some kick ass things.. but it's not because i am rich. I certainly do Ok.. but it's been how I prioritize my spending and doing things incrementally. I have not chased the newest options and found some incredible deals used or on sale. It's been a long process and many steps along the way.
The great thing, nobody cares. I go over to a friend's house who is just starting and everyone roles up thier sleeves to share their knowledge and have fun doing some work together. It's nice just to have something to connect on these days...

This is encouraging. Starting out with a bonus room in a new house we are building. Starting out with LCR, and rear channels in the ceiling because it was the most cost effective but plan to change them to Atmos speakers once I can get ear level speakers for LCR. Love the channel and can't build up piece by piece.

Your finished product with the JBL La Scalas and those subs, the way it looks with that blue lighting coming down and the rise-up screen, is what got me wanting to build a dedicated home theater in my basement similar to yours. Then I realized it'd be better to move and find somewhere with higher than 8.5" ceilings either on the first floor or basement, but soon after, the lockdowns hit and prices skyrocketed for new homes. At this point, I'm making due with a projector home theater in my bedroom and an 83" LG OLED TV in family room, but this kind of setup is my dream!

Good HT is a journey.
I was going to add, not a destination.
But over the past 3-5 years, there is recognition that some of us are in the End Game. Once you get 12-16ft wide screens and 5000 lumens+ from laser 4k projectors like the Sony 5000es or Eclipse, and a well constructed room build, you're pretty much done.
Electronics gear like processors amps and projectors are a moving target and can always be swapped out.
I used to be on a 2-3 year projector upgrade cycle from 1999 through 2012, then slowed to 5-10 years
Speakers, amps can easily go 15-20 years or more.
Processors might need more often, though it appears now is a good time to buy into a recent model to get maybe 10 years or more out of it.
I realize is an old post, but I hope you'll see this reply anyway. The fact that you call it End Game just means you are personally entering late-phase A/V enthusiasm ;) There are so many amazing technologies to look forward to right now. Consider the (newly-built ATM) Sphere and what they are doing there, then tell me we're "pretty much done"! The highly-immersive home theater experience that will be available for people like us to purchase even just 10-20 years from now would be absolutely mind boggling to us now. Stay interested!

Your channel and this video is very inspirational. My love for home theater started in my late teens when my parents saw my brother's and I's love for movies. They bought us a Koss all in one 5.1 surround sound system. In hindsight it was a terrible system but back then when I first heard it I was in awe and from that point on I've become a big fan of home theater. Right now I have a Klipsch system it's not the greatest but it's like you say to just enjoy what you have instead of worrying about the next big thing. I know one day I'll have the system of my dreams but right now I'm gonna enjoy what I have because at the end of the day that's what it's all about.

Probably my favorite of your videos.😃👍🏾 Your opening line about it taking time is a point that is often overlooked. My own journey started back in 2006, when we moved into the house. Just like you, I found the room and given the barn shaped ceiling, i used tape and old door moldings to spec out how big of a screen i could put up. The framing stayed up and sitting in front of it was my 36 inch Mitsubishi 4:3 flat screen, Yamaha RX-V995, PS3, and JBL SCS125 sub and satellite kit. From that point on there have been some gradual changes based on need and some based on wants. At every point, I try to make sure that I give it time to sink in. Going from not knowing how to make proper use of the settings on my then Yamaha RX-V995, to now using the minidsp 2x4HD and REW to time align subs even before running the AVR calibrations from my Pioneer Elite SC-99 ,etc. Most people that don't know the journey think that these systems come together over night (they don't). Thanks for sharing your journey.

Got a SVS subwoofer on 2 inch cork plates to prevent the bass desturbing my neighbours, and my front Monitor Audio is on cork too driven by a Marantz reciever producing lovely warm sound. The neighbours have stated that they do not experience being desturbed by sound/bass noise as usual after cork installment. I did use cork at the bagend of my listening room too, the mid and upper sound range and acoustics have defantly changed for the better, as far as I can hear. I do not have any equipment to measure if cork do make an acoustic diference.

This is why every man needs his own home. I've been focusing on making my place off and all my kids are just about grown and I've always been a audiophile, have had loud home theater innthe last and have always had loud car audio. 2.5 years from now ill start focusing on my home theater mine will be 12x18 and I'm not sure if I should vault my ceiling or leave it flat at 8ft. I really can't wait till I get started on it. With as cheap and powerful as car audio is now a days I might end up useing car audio components like subs and amps. Pretty sure I'll be going with 2 18's, maybe 2 24's in a infinite baffle. Or if I can use more room I might do a crazy box build and do a 6th order or something fancy but that'll be a whole project ill have to look into and weigh the pros and cons. If I do I infinite baffle should I port it into my crawl space or port it straight out side? Just worried the sound might carry out side real bad but I only have 2 people within 1 mile of me, but with that few people in an area any disturbance will be obvious and I don't want to deal with cry baby neighbors. Thats the reason I bought land in BFE
He's right, it doesn't all happen over night for most people. The most important thing is that you just get started and work your way up. You'll learn a lot along the way and you'll still probably have a better setup than 99% of people if you use that knowledge.
Love this video! For most of us, getting the home theater we truly want will take a journey of saving, learning, patience, upgrading, and time. But it's all worth in the end. Keep ur journey going...never stop!

Ive been building my hometheater for 3 years now. I live on an island so its always a struggle to find any equipment and other stuff for the building.
Building a dedicated home theaters is uncommon here, so it's been a bit of a lonely journey for me lol

My media room was not enjoyed by my family the way I anticipated. I enjoy mine but my family does not. I actually went on you tube becaue I felt that sense of being lonely journey. My father was in the movie theater business for 47 years so being in a movie theater and my relationship to movies is deep. I mean for 35 years I could just walk into any theater in the national chain for free. By the time I owned my own home and had a room built my kids had gotten older and my wife does not share this love. So my booming bass and my film room is the joke in my house. The truth is I wish they loved it the way I do. I am the kid from Cinema Pardissio.
The reality is most people do not share the same hobbies and passion even within families. Whether you play golf, fish, collect stamps, NFT’s or Home Theater. Add to head to find people outside my local community as well as online that share my same passion

Been a home theater enthusiast for 20 years and I love this video. Very few people go out and spend $100k to outfit their theater at one time. The rest of us do it over years.
I'm not starting small lol. Now that I have a good paying job I'm going high end. Of course not all at once, I have a 3.0 channel setup and bought a 3 way channel bowers and wilkins 700s center channel with 2 Arendals 1961 L/R channel speakers (small room). I'm already blown away and there is a good amount of bass. I do however plan to add surrounds and a sub woofer for a 5.1 channel setup. This will be my target next year. For now, I'm very happy with the results.
This seriously makes me tear up. I remember starting with a Samsung soundbar with 2 wireless speakers, and a wireless sub. Early this year I did the mistake to buy an HTIB, and people told me to build instead. Took the time and effort, small changes from the AVR, to a pair of 600m, then upgraded my centre to 504c, then added a PB 3000, then 2 svs prime elevation, added 2 rb 10, then recently got a pair of the 8000f, and put my 600m as my surround. Took 5 years just to figure out, and i always enjoy the journey. One day i will hit my end goal of having a 9.4.6 dedicated home theatre with Kaleidescape, and a really good projector. One day!

Some real good ideas and information. I currently have x4 Klipsch RP-600Ms, x1 Klipsch RP 404-C, x1 SVS PB-2000 along with a Denon X3700H AVR. This was my first plunge into real home theatre/hifi and I am NOT disappointed. The two things you've got me debating now are getting custom cabinets made, and also using a projector. I'll have to do some comparisons against higher end OLED TVs as long as screen size is adequate. More research is needed...

Love you with all my heart Youthman! My theater is a 27" Sony Trinitron TV, it's 480i and has 60hrt, and is a CRT TV. That is our immersive display. We are using a Sony STR 2010 receiver from 1990. And 2 Sony bookshelve speakers rated at 20 watts. Am interested in adding a subwoofer in the next 10 to 15 years.
Great video. My home theater room is evolving nicely. Just had Valencia seating delivered and the Arendal 1723 monitors arrive next week. Gradually upgrading as time goes by!

Awesome video , i started even before surround even started i had my speaker B's behind me as rears just for the effect ..lol , with a 19" tv ..lol then to my new home i got a 52" then a 60" then a 106" projector screen and i loved every transition.

I'm noticing one major difference between our Home Theater journeys Youthman... just how much you've upgraded your equipment over the years compared to me! Since I got my JVC receiver in 1994 I've only upgraded my AVR four times since then... And I've only had 3 sets of "ear level" speakers total in 27 years with 4 different subs! : )
Part of my journey was at one point I wanted to have heard in my own home as many Klipsch Speakers as possible Which is why I have owned over 50 pair LOL
Lol, I started out with a HTIAB from crutchfield about 25 years ago. It was a Onkyo 6.1 that .1 was week af. Now I have Klipsch reference premier series speakers Denon Atmos receiver, Yamaha integrated SVS subs Audio Technica TT. Sony Bravia 65” Sony 4k blueray…. Then I watch this channel and realize I need a projector!!!
Never knew you had double sliding glass doors to the right of the room.
You've done pretty well to conceal them with that black heavy duty acoustic dampening and light block out curtains. Great job in positioning that right surround speaker considering the lack of mounting options available, due to the glass doors behind.
Also being able to mount the projector behind the rear wall was also a handy option to have.
Get rid of that fan noise and extreme exhaust heat. From an empty room to what you have now, you have evolved the room to cinema specs extremely well .....

My HT has been a 4 year build process that still isn't done or anything fancy, just tasteful. Lot of my equipment was a "rip the band-aid off once" purchase but in the end was the right choice. Hindsight, I could have saved in some areas by going used but my area didn't have much to offer so I went with new. Big ticket items were the Sony VPL-VW285ES projector, Denon AVR-X6500H and Klipsch Ref III speaker system. If I had it to do over I would go with the forward cabinet setup like yours.
For people wanting to do a HT on a budget just go for it, you will be surprised what you can build on a budget if you dumpster the internet for used equipment.

What great video, you right is a long journey when we don’t have the funds right way, mine toke a long time too, I remember I started with a Sony tv the first flat screen and a all in one box Panasonic home theater.
Is not only saving to buy new things but also knowledge and make more educated decisions.
Your sliding door solution inspired me when I upgraded to 7 channels, my surround right speaker is floating over a window, but I had to come from below instead of above, so I grabbed a flat steel bar and used wood to shim if flush to the window frame, screwed them into stud, the bar extends above my couch and I mounted the speaker to it, had I not seen your videos I probably would have dismissed 7 channels as a possibility.

Great video. When you climb a mountain you have to look back and see how far you have come. Video reminds me of when my parents bought a 65in Mitsubishi tv. Had to build a cabinet around it because it weighed 315 lbs. and was not moving.

Nice job Michael!!! I used to work at Highland Superstores, Silo, and Fretter WAY back when! And then Best Buy when they first came to the Chicago area. It absolutely amazing how technology has changed over the past 30+ years.
I had 2 60GB PS3 that had YLOD! The first was covered under warranty, but no the second. I’d still like to get it repaired at some point so it could be used as an SACD player. Too bad my Panasonic 820 won’t play those. It works magic for DVD and BluRay!
You can find great deals on used audio equipment. Most of my stuff when I started out was used, but it was all super high quality stuff. Get to know people around you that you can trade or barter with. My previous boss was really into HT stuff, most of my original stuff came from buying his used stuff when he upgraded.
The biggest upgrades to me were:
*The high-end wooden stage upfront (replacing the crappy wooden frame)
*Painting the wall color grey
*Replacing Klipsch with JTR front stage
*Replacing seats
I would agree with one other addition. The JVC NX7
My first "home theater" if you could call it that was a Bose Cinemate series II system with sub and two satellite speakers from Craigslist too for $200 which didn't sound to bad and loud for what it was, with a 47" LG LCD 1080p TV. Now I have an LG 65" 4K OLED TV which I had for a few years but recently added a Klipsch system which sounds much better, louder and more bass. Its not top notch but I enjoy the sound with two R-625fa, center R-52C, two surround R-41M (total $799) sub R-12SW ($189) with a Yamaha TSR-700 (RX-V6A) for ($400) which i had for just a month so far. And so far love it

Hello there Michael:
Its kinda wierd that your current JTR center channel has the same setup as your first Klipsch center channel if you were to stand it on its side. I mean witht the 2 drivers flanking the square horn and you kinda went back to your stacked 15s in a sense with your Captivator 4000s even though they are single dual-18" driver subs. Oh and i had an idea for a smaller version of the Noesis 212 called the Noesis 204. I bet he could get a smaller compression driver made for those smaller speakers with 2 4" bass drivers and could have a really good pair of speakers for on your desk or maybe in a theater room as surrounds where Jeffs larger speakers might be a bit too much and that is including his single speakers. Oh and they could be priced much more affordably as well and the compression driver if he coudl get one of the same quality made but smaller could be a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the one he uses in his big speakers. I bet he would love to mull that over and possibly adding a lineup of all-weather (outdoor) speakers and subs to his inventory so if you wanted, have a full JTR outdoor set of speakers on your patio as well. I think those additions would do well for your newer buddy Jeff Permanian. See if you could run those ideas of mine by him as I REFUSE to join Twitter or Facebook cause of how censorious they have become. Jen Psaki has came out and stated that the WH is censoring what they deem "misinformation" on COVID FOR Facebook which IS IN FACT collusion in wich they found NO EVIDENCE to support that Trump was colluding with Russia to steal the 2016 election in which that whole mess went on for 3 DAMN YEARS and i got sick of it after a while so that is why I think you should start a Discord server as well. Make it as an alternative for those who don't want to join Facebook cause of low or zero trust like me. I bet you anything it would be just as popular as the Facebook group. That and you really should look into the alternative social media plaforms as well as SubscribeStar or maybe start dumping all of your videos onto Odysee which is a RUclips alternative that PAYS BETTER than RUclips and could be an alternative for your viewers who are looking for something else to watch your videos on cause they are sick of RUclips not getting notifications of when you put a new video out there cause of how broken the algorithm is and would be another great income stream for you in which your viewers could support you on. Just thought I also get you look into these alternative social media and video platforms as well and I reallydo hope you shoot my ideas by Jeff cause i think he might like them and I would love to hear back from him If he does respond back to you.

Really great video, thank you for sharing. I often look at home theaters and wonder how that person got to where they are and how their home theater came about. Well, this video answers that question. Your video helps inspire others, including myself, to envision what a room could be given some planning and forethought. My home theater right now is a part of the living room. But given time, through research and planning I hope to have something I could be proud to share with family and friends. Much like your home theater.

Wow what a journey. I love it! I do want to ask about the amps and other gear etc would like to see a video on that. Last if I was going to make a change it would be the carpet and the popcorn machine.
I started with a 14 inch colour tv, a stereo hifi amp driving four speakers (one in each corner) and mono vhs recorder! When I was able to afford a stereo vcr I thought I'd hit the jackpot!
