- 1968 Dodge Dart winter upgrades! Fuel system upgrades, larger fuel system sending unit, a new AN fuel line , -8an line, new Holley carburetor feed line from summit racing and an Wilson Manifold spacer! The carburetor spacer is a tappet design by Wilson. 1.5 high should be great on my small block mopar stroker motor!
I’ve run a mech Holley pump on my 555 chevy for 3 years ,simple regulator set at 6.5 lbs 1/2 inch feed line to -8 , 740 HP consistent 9:70 at 137 mph. Single dominator carb. Removed my loud leaking going out once a year Holley blue pump years ago.
I'm looking forward to seeing your Dart stretch its legs. Beautiful Car.
I always run a return-style regulator, usually the Moroso fuel-log, which is bulletprrof and versatile (and affordable). It has huge inlet and return ports, a pressure gauge tap and 4 outlet ports for multiple carbs if needed. I use #10 from the tank/filter/pump to the carb and a #8 return to the tank. Haven't had creep problems and it makes the pump whisper quiet.
Why the mechanical pump instead of electrical ??? Built in regulator ??? Good timing great call for the 1/2 inch line for extra fuel for the 1/4 mile but I just hope that mechanical pump works for the 1/4 !!! That happened to me. As soon as I got to 3rd and got over 5000 rpm it spit and sputtered and fell flat on its face !!!! At that time I was only running mid 12s when I 1st started !!! Went from 99 mph to 107 plus with a simple Holley blue pump !!! 110 to 120 gph !!! In the 9s it was 340 gph and a lot more expensive !!!! That big block of yours will munch some serious fuel at the top of a 1/4 !!!!! In my small opinion I believe you'll need to flow at least 240 gph !!! Just from my old head experience ha ha !!!! I want to see EVERYTHING go right for you at the big track !!!!! I'm expecting 10.80s 123 mph ??? I'm excited about it so I can't imagine what your feeling as time winds down !!!!! May I suggest a rear wheel dyno test ??? I'm really pullin for you brother !!!!!!!!!
I commend you on your skills Joey! You are really dialing in that car. Looking forward to a Dyno run and the 1/4 mile!
This vid made my day! Thanks!
Ahh...yup, you sure ARE an Engine Detail guy, and just overall Super Detail Guy. Oh man your ride is SuWeet !
Nicer! and the 1.5 spacer is better one. i want to run #8 or #10 from a cell tank to Electric pump filtered to the carb ,of course downsizing at the split.i wonder why all of the stock class cars run such a huge syatem my guess is due to very hard launches
Love your channel. I am also in the Vancouver area and have watched the videos at Pete’s dyno test . Does he bill out time on his dyno for my 440 six pack motor and would like to talk to him about cams and heads if possible. Thanks again for the great videos.
Glad to see you're still thrashing through the winter months. Can't wait to see your 1/4 mile results. Good luck!
Just Hellcat it and be done! Would be cool to see the power improvements with headers, exhaust, smaller puller etc (hellcat) :)
You really need a fuel pressure gauge at the carburetor because I think you're going to have pressure drop with a big line and a suction type pump. Don't want you to lean out your engine and ruin it
Nice Job, it was hard to tell but is the fuel line resting on top of the shock mount? Just have an eye you do not end up with it rubbing in the shock.
Love the work you do , love this car and I think your channel is awesome !!!!
Do you anticipate a Carb jet change with these upgrades?
Man I'm jealous...my camaro has been sitting the past 5 months. I've got a million things I want to do to it this winter but can't get the time to get it done
Joe this probably isn't an issue with the Dart but when you have a fuel cell the vent is close to the same size as the outlet line. If the vent is too small it can cause starvation.
Sharp car. Makes me want to put some time into the Camaro and play with it some.
Shock tuning for 60' times can be really effective and oftentimes contrary to initial thought. Depending on where the shock is mounted, in front or behind the axle, rebound and or compression settings have a dramatic effect on allowing anti squat to slam that tire into the pavement.
Video taping the launch with different shock settings is well worth it in my experience.
A/Gas Ford Falcon I played 7.60 index, absolutely required the right combo.
No wheelies and the perfect amount of wheel speed were the result.
Have fun brother!
Some of the dirt in the fuel system comes from the gas station
Fuel pressure gauge be good also, and electric fuel pump
Looking good and I see "The Boss" stopped by to check up on you !
Hi Joe, I noticed you didn't put any rags in the open plenum while you were putting the news studs in. If it was me, I would have dropped one or the nut in, and it would have been a disaster. Anyway, take care and can't wait for race day. Keep doing what you do. I used to live in Colwood, so I know the area. 😊
I like to live dangerously. Lol. Rag would be good safety.
Glad to see the car again. I hope you get another track up there soon.
For 1/4 mile make sure you have the right rear gear in it.
Joe, love the upgrade. Can't tell if the sending unit will make it to the bottom of the tank. Just don't want it to suck air.
Ya for sure. Had the same shape as a stock one and I usually run with a half tank full so should be no prob
good job, engine looks great!
Good work bro..looks great!
FLASHING BABY!!!
Cool.....
So how far away is the next dragstrip ? and is it on the island ? ...If off the island how can you afford the ferry ? and if traveling all the way to ? Mission ? are you going to tow the car there ? change the trans or get an overdrive unit ? ...lots of things to think about
No strip on island. Have to go mission. Will trailer car because if I break something would be screwed. Ferry ver expensive, why I haven’t been yet. Conver change is all and should be good to go
On my 69 340 GTS, I plugged off the factory sending unit. I had 1" pickups brazed to the bottom of the tank which fed into a FRAM fuel filter. I ran a #16 steel braided line from the filter to the Barry Grant electric pump. I ran #12 to the pressure regulator, then #8 to the carb(s). No starvation issues with that setup. Can't wait to see you put it through its paces in the 1/4 mile.
What size holly carburetor is that jjoe
850
Geezz that 1/2" sending unit is massive... i'm doing a 62 belvedere right now and was reading how 5/16 line won't handle even 350hp... glad to see that was wrong since i just got new 5/16 stuff :) (i'm not racing.. just a beater to have fun on the street.. hoping to build a 390 eventually though)
Another great video Joe! I like all the close up shots of the installation, it shows all the clean details! You do nice work.
Cheers, Kevin
Very nice to not have to drain the fuel tank completely with this fuel float mechanism design. The 1/2" fuel line is a great upgrade, I had a big block engine that would actually suck dry the fuel line 😳 after installing a wild cam...great idea 💡 to heat shield the fuel line running near those awesome looking ceramic coated headers. Hopefully you don't have any hood clearance issues with the additional 1/2" of the Wilson spacer. Looking excellent that engine 👌!
I think those mechanical pumps are rated for 600hp when they have to pull all the way from the tank to the pump itself !
So now you are going to a bigger line it may help a little
Or you could put a 1/2 gallon reservoir tank in the bay that is fed by a small elec pump at the rear 🤷♂️
Less rear spring rebound...More squat...Better weight transfer... better times.
Name of the paint colour?
Dodge inferno red
@@SimpsonsSpeedShop thx a lot man, love it!
Beautiful Baby! Oh, a great upgrade to the dart as well.
Beautiful car, super clean installation, excellent work!!!
Best of luck to you in the upcoming race season!!!
Very close to the Dana cover.
Ya had to massage it lol. It has clearance tho no rubbing I show that in another vid
Sweet ride. Thanks for the quick !
