- Welcome back to another exciting episode of Chords & Coffee, the weekly show where we dive deep into all things music with your host, Nate White!
In this episode of Chords & Coffee we will take a quick look at the way Nate approaches Hybrid Picking. Hybrid Picking is the term used when both a flat pick and fingers engage the guitar strings. If you have ever been curious about this technique and have searched for a fun intro lesson, the search is over. Pour yourself a hot cup of coffee, tune your guitar, and let's get started on right hand Hybrid Picking technique!
The content of Chords & Coffee is driven by the comment section, so if you have a question about anything, let us know in the comments! No question is "too stupid." We are all learning, and we are all in this boat together.

Beautiful playing Nate. Been wanting to learn more hybrid. Great video.
Thanks brother, I appreciate you! 🙏
Can’t wait
Thanks for your inspiration and for being a part of chords and coffee!!
It’s the way I start every Saturday and love it. Thank you!!
First time that I have watched your channel. Nice lesson and advice. I am predominantly a finger player, but will grab a pick and get into this. It sounds great!
Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it!
Thanks for another great episode. How about a "Connecting Chords & Coffee" episode? Things like walking, using an inversion of a chord to step into the next... and that thing gospel players do where they play the I & the ii chord up and down the neck.
Great idea, I love it! Thanks for the suggestion, let me see what I can do.👍
This is a good idea
Oh I missed it, but I’m here now 😆! As a thumb picker, I’ve been somewhat of a hybrid picker all my life. Using as a flat pick probably 50% of the time. Captain who 🤪 From a young boy 👦
Hey Mike, glad to have you- better late than never! I wish I could make friends with a thumb pick, but never could get comfortable with them. I’m a flat picking finger flicker😄👍
@@naterevolution , and I could never make friends with a flat pick as much as I’ve tried! And believe me I’ve tried.
Great exercises. I can do some of this but going back to train the fingers will help a lot. Now Travis picking is another story. I’d love to see your take on where to start getting that coordination together! (If you’ve already done one on that I’ll try to look it up). Thanks again!
Thank you! I appreciate you watching and commenting. 🙏 Your suggestion is great, let me see what I can do!
completely agree about the pick size. on electric i recently went from a .88 to 2.1 and its been one of the biggest changes to my tone ive had in a long time.
I've been using the Dunlop Purple Tortex 1.14s for a while now - love em. I play them until they are really rounded off!
I will say this- for rhythmic strumming a thin pick is pretty tough to beat. But if I had a desert island pick it’s gonna be thick pick in 1 mm range give or take. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate you!
@@darthstrings1 hey Dave! Totally agree, in fact, I will purposely use the round shoulder edge of the pick for kind of a “softer” attack. I appreciate you watching and commenting. God bless!
How do you like that Taylor acoustic amp? Thanks for creating this video!!
I really like them for acoustic gigs or playing small to medium sized rooms. They sound particularly great with Taylor expression systems.👍
