Too bad they moved production from Indonesia to China. Who wants to pay top dollar for anything made in China? It was ridiculous tama moved Starclassic to China, but at least they kept star in Japan.
But even though yamaha only makes traditional Japanese instruments in Japan for decades, at least they were making drums in Indonesia and the hardware from the motorcycle factory in Indonesia. Now they're probably made in the same factory as Mapex in China.

Thanks for getting in touch. China has a long tradition of developing and producing musical instruments. Opening our own facility there was a multi-million investment into the future and we are extremely proud of it. You can make your own picture of the quality and craftsmanship at a drum dealer near you.
We continue to build the PHX series in Japan, if you are looking for custom Japanese built drums. Let us know if you have any further questions.

That's funny, when I contacted yamaha in the 90s they said they only made traditional Japanese instruments in Japan, so if they're making any drums in Japan, that's great news.
Yeah, China has a long tradition of making all kinds of things, but I wouldn't want their drums, cymbals, guitars, motorcycles, cars, baby food, milk, grain, electronics, life saving devices, or just about anything they make if at all possible.

It doesn’t really matter where it’s made, a well made instrument is a well made instrument. Tama shifted production to China but also shifted about half their workers down there with it, so it’s literally the same people. Yamaha scared everyone at first, but they’re still putting out high quality instruments the same as they always have. Stop being a hipster elitist.

Sure it matters. If everything is made in China, then those jobs are lost, and then you're dependent on another country, especially one that uses inferior materials and scams quality control when the foreign company reps come for inspection.
Plus, why find the military expansion in the south China sea?
They already have missiles on the reclaimed islands, aimed at Manila and other cities in the Philippines, poised for invasion when the time is right, because there's so many resources in the Philippines and they can't defend themselves against a proven bully that ignores the international court.
My Chinese garbage pearl, lugs started popping off, never seen anything like that in my life, had to replace ten lugs, top and bottom lugs, but with non China parts. Just like the motorcycles and atvs from China, they fall apart and then no parts available for months. I'm in Asia and experience it daily.
Even though a lot of US made products are bad, I'd prefer Japanese, Taiwan, Germany and US made drums. Never again Chinese drums. Unfortunately, all hardware is Chinese, I liked it better when it was Taiwanese, but they closed up most of the drums factories and moved production to China. It think Crush bought a closed Taiwan factory and hired their workers back, something like that.

More reasons not to buy anything from China, and there are plenty more reasons than these.
Og course there's a very small amount of products the manufacturer closely monitors production, but if they aren't there constantly watching, they will revert back to the bad, cheap, kickback corrupt way.
