Native Texan here, so I guess I am just acclimated to the heat. An AC set to 69 degrees sounds unreasonably cold to me unless it is winter time. And these cruisers complained it wouldn't go any lower? 🥶Sheesh! In the summer, our home AC stays at 77 degrees. Anything lower and our electric bill is as much as our mortgage. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but you get the point. 🛳
We just got a new AC unit and 77 is cold, old unit set at 69 never cooled enough. I agree with your write up.

We live in the coastal region of South Carolina. Our A/C is set for 75 or 76, even when it's 98 outside.

The tour boat passengers and crew had someone looking over them. Had to be scary!

As a musician, some of those bands on the Monster's Cruise are at least 30 years old and from Canada. OK Lynch Mob is maybe 20-25, but George Lynch is originally from the band Dokken, an 80s metal 'hair' band

Santorini is close to being overwhelmed by tourism. We were there at the beginning of June and only the Marella ships Discovery and Explorer were there but Fira was shoulder to shoulder. Our guide to Akrotiri said they can currently have up to five cruise ships in at the same time, including some of the monster ships. I would not have wanted to be there on a day like that. As it was, at an off-peak time, the queue for the cable car took about 20 minutes. Shelter was minimal and the temperature was in the mid-thirties Celsius (mid-nineties Fahrenheit). Lovely as it and Mykonos are, there is a real need to limit tourism. They’ll start with cruises but will undoubtedly come for other tourists later. The locals are *very* fed up because their kids have no chance of getting a house. Anything that comes on the market is snapped up to be offered as accommodation.

Airlines actually pay for gates. You should know that being a travel agent. Airlines even have to pay for their counter space…their space for lounges.

We live in St. John’s and are not used to the heat. We boarded the Carnival Pride in Dover last August and our room was extremely hot compared to our kids room. We immediately mentioned the difference between rooms to our steward. He sent a work order up the line and within 20 minutes someone was at our room with a temperature gauge and said it was too hot. Shortly after maintenance came by and fixed the issue. We were very impressed. It sure set the tone for a great cruise.
I've had that same AC issue on some ships and when my issues wasn't resolved after telling my steward and guest services, I just took off the grate that covers the main vent- That helped a lot!!!

69 degrees is pretty dang chilly.
I have mine set at 72 but being 400lbs I doubt if a freezer would work.
Won't be surprised if Alaska does that. When we were there last year lot of residents
grumbling about too many tourists. They don't mind cruise ships but wanted it limited to only 1 or 2 at a time.
Bidding is fine, as the country is maximizing their potential value. Just like cruise lines charging a crazy premium for their new ships like the ICON!
In addition to the bidding, they should (well beforehand) make sure the amount of visitors doesn't exceed the capability of the area. Limit the numbers, not just charge them! I get the whole concept of trying to make the experience nice, and if you are shoulder to shoulder with too many others, it will be a horrible experience.
Absolutely and cruise ships completely skipping these places is also a possibility. Be careful what you ask for, at some point the cruise ships may find somewhere else to go.

Cruise lines should just say NO! When Residents lose their income to greedy Politicians………they will welcome cruise ships again.

Mikonos and Santorini are not huge places, they can handle only a certain number of people and might be now victims of their own success. With travel being relatively cheaper than in the past, overtourism is a thing. And overtourism is an instance of the tragedy of the commons.
But yeah, let's blame greedy politicians.

Dude., the pumps are "bilge" NOT bilage. Single sylable. The bilge is the open space below the lowest floor of the boat.
I have been on some excursion where I was not totally comfortable with three safety of the vehicle or vessel.
Regular cruise ships can sail to Komodo Island. We've done it twice on HAL and loved it. The Pink Beach is pretty nice for snorkeling.
Coldest ships- Celebrity Edge Class, especially the Ascent! Freezing 🥶
We were in Santorini in 2019. It was a very beautiful 24 night Mediterranean cruise!

Regarding on bidding / port fees. I'd like to see a rate dependent on the capacity of the ship. The smaller ships get a lower rate compared to the larger ships with 6,000 passengers. After all, they are trying to reduce the tourist impact.

Glad there okay. I love the Carnival Conquest. Monsters of rock 2525, Slaughter is the band, I would go see. Trying to figure out to do this cruise. Bidding is going to send prices through the roof
I didn't realize that the port of Tampa was growing so much! We lived there a couple years so I'm now more inclined to sail from Tampa if there's an itinerary from Tampa that's appealing to us.
Hi! I live on Santorini island and a few days ago we had over 20.000 cruisers in one day going off cruise ships and on the island. As you get it is a very high number. Everything everywhere was super crowded and the queues were super long. But Don I have to disagree. Bidding doesn’t automatically mean that the cruisers will have to pay the bid price. If we wanted to do that we could just do it like Venice and charge directly the cruisers a surcharge for a day pass. Maybe the cruise lines who already make huge profit nowadays can absorb the extra “bidding” price. If they don’t do that while the cruising industry is booming then they go after the nickel and dime philosophy on this one too. Fact is we cannot accommodate and host properly so many passengers coming off the cruise ships in a single day. There has to be a limitation
20,000 is a lot of people, what was the revenue those 20,000 left behind ?
Don’t know. Of course it is a lot of money for the businesses on the island which is a very good thing but you have to acknowledge the fact that it is very difficult for us living there to continue our lives and run errands with so many tourists every day plus it is very difficult for the cruisers to enjoy the island and its beauty and don’t forget the high temperatures, the narrow passages and the rocky landscape that demands a good physical condition

We did complain, (Celebration M/A 2023) our cabin was 73 I think, and they said it was within tolerance and they have to lower it block by block. IOW it would lower for x number of cabins. They have these beautiful comforters on the bed, but we could not use them. There is nothing better than a great bed, great comforter clean sheets and a cold room! On this trip I decided no summer cruises on Carnival ships.

Tampa’s only problem is that the huge ships can’t pass under the Skyway Bridge, so we’ll have smaller, older ships.

I was on the carnival legend in june 2022. we had a suite. The cabin was always hot and humid. Everything absorbed the moisture. boxed candy (our kids had) became one huge lump. I had a box of pepto bismol and the cardboard curled from the moisture. I did talk to our steward when we first got in the cabin. He told me it would cool off after we left port. It never did. I didn't even know I could complain. I do now and it ticks me off. Also nothing dried. nothing. not the hand towels, not the bath towels, so yeah, we had to have new ones every day. And we like to be eco friendly, but i'm not drying off with a damp towel.
Booked Icon for the same date you were looking at paying $2,800 for balcony cabin not over $5,000, booked it in Dec 2022.

Traffic sucks in Tampa, you can sit there all day just to get into the middle of town. Period. That said I would love to go on one of those cruise ships and sale under the skyway bridge.

Santorini was amazing, I could see people bidding to get in there. I’m not 100% sure Mykonos is also worth a bid, I think we could’ve easily bypassed that island and had just as good trip.
Ok; so I know ships stopping at advertised ports is subject to safety issues, but now there’s a chance that your cruise won’t stop at a particular port because they lost a bid? I can definitely see a lot of confused & angry passengers; if this becomes a reality. Would definitely make me do my homework as to the docking rules & the odds of being able to visit the ports on my itinerary. ❤😢😮🚢

Good Story on the tour boat passengers glad they were safe. I have sail out of Tampa once and enjoy it like to see them expand. But wonder with the bridge is it possible. I Believe I would try the Margaritaville Islander looks like they did a good job with that ship. Guess I'm with you DON, never heard of any of those bands LOL.
I wish galveston would build more docks for more cruise ships.
If they keep getting more ships they may have to in the future. MSC will start sail out of Galveston Nov 2025.

BTW you can visit the Kamodo Island on a large ship. I was on the Crystal Symphony and we anchored and took tenders into the Island dock.

as an AC tech, 69 is a very low temp inside while in the tropics. Most of my customers avg 72-74

You have to call or go to guest services when things aren't working. I always complain at the time it's happening. Only way to get it right.

The monsters of rock cruise sounds good but it might be a little crazy
I notice early morning the ship air con does weaken off and the air temp goes higher. I think the ship is trying to save power and fuel.
Glad it was a successful rescue and not a recovery operation.
